"Yeah, true." They focused, slowing, and planted one foot to bring Ferros around in a wide arc. Just as the hammer burst into flames, the worm lunged forward again, and knocked Jordan off his feet mid-swing, sending him flying back. He cursed and twisted to get his feet under him. HP: 24/60 Dmg: REALLY Charge: 3/3Damage total: 63

"I don't see him," shouted Connor, just barely missing Jordan's wide swing in between the teeth. He backed up, breathing heavily, a wide gash along one arm. "Where's Myron, did he make it out?"
The lapse in attention was just enough for him to lose enough focus for the creature clamp down on one of his legs and he screamed as it bore right through leg and bone, chipping the entire tooth off before hissing and debating whether or not to pull the tooth out from his mutilated foot.

Things started happening a little bit quick. Melvin said he had a heal, Jordan was going to attack.... And then Jordan fell back, and Connor was getting his foot chewed on. Sherry took one stab at the toothbeast, and then jumped away from it. "I've got bandages and -- " She cut off, trying to hold on to everything at once and dig out her bandages. "Jordan how's your shield?" she was already headed towards Connor. Not that she could do much for chewed foot. HP: 30/60 Damage: 5 Charge: 2/3 Total Damage: 77

"Connor!" That instantly sealed who was getting the heal. If Connor bleed out, then they would be leaving a body behind.
Moving over, he pointed his charge shot at him. "Leave the tooth. You'll bleed out." He warned him as the man reached for the tooth. It was the only thing at the moment keeping him there. "Is it burning then taking it out. We don't need it eating through more." He had seen the acid and didn't want it tearing through him more than a tooth already had.
Pointing Saliva at his leg, he fired the healing charge into his shield and worked to hoist him up, holding him up under his arm. "Just lean on me."
Damn. Now he couldn't defend. He'd have to attack now.

"s**t! Connor!" Melvin had Connor, and Sherry was asking about his shield. "Got one or two hits left in us," Jordan reported after a whisper-quick exchange of thoughts with Ferros. He moved to one side and swung at the beast again, careful to avoid Melvin and Connor. HP: 14/60 Dmg: 3 Charge: 0/3 Damage total: 80

Connor hissed and did his best to use Melvin as support. "I'm not done yet!"
He steadied himself, hobbled twice, the tooth still in in calf as he swung his sword back twice, and released an electric arc enough to at least hit the target. That seemed about as much effort as Connor could muster as he lost balance again and practically toppled on top of Melvin. "Please tell me that thing's not poisonous." OOC Double - Take (12 -6)x2 = 12 damage = 92 damage done

"Melvin, you got him?" She gestured at Connor. "Jordan, here. Take a drink." Sherry tossed a small, obviously runic hip-flask his direction. "It'll replenish your shield at least a bit." Then she took her own swing at the beasty. HP: 20/60 Damage: 10 Charge: 3/3 Total Damage: 92+10 DEAD gone at the very least ;-; xxProlixity If Jordan drinks he gains +10 hp. (it tastes like sweet red wine, despite the liquid glowing runic blue.) Drinking it DOES take up a turn!

Jordan caught the flask, uncapped it awkwardly, and took a drink; the runic glow didn't even phase him. There was no time for doubt, and he trusted that Sherry wouldn't toss him anything hazardous in the middle of a dangerous mission. The taste was a mild surprise, but the cool tingle of Fear infusing itself into their shield was a welcome sensation. Once she'd taken her swing at the worm, he moved closer to give the flask back, with a sincere, "Thanks." HP: 24/50

The last hit seemed to do it, as the sandworm seemed ready to surge forward and devour them all before suddenly shifting directions and leaving.
Silence.
Connor half-groaned, half-signed in relief and then began to try to hobble forward. "We need to keep on going. Where's Myron?"
It was then that Sherry's weapon tablet suddenly flashed red again, oddly, and then there was what sounded like a million centipedes scuttling forward into the shape of something vaguely humanoid. Their body was mostly shadows, just two centralized burning red eyes and insects scurrying all directions. In their skeletal hands, with a crude scimitar pressed against their victim's throats, was Myron.
"This human child isss weak and boring," it spoke, but it sounded like dust and sand given voice, "I will trade it for one of you. Which one of you will take its place as ssacrifice?"

The worm turned and left, apparently deciding that they were too much trouble for a small meal, and Jordan stopped briefly to catch his breath. He was in good shape, but fighting on the move was stressful. Connor's question was answered by a shifting of shadows and the scuttling of insects, and Jordan recoiled instinctively from the movement of many tiny legs, tasting bitterness in his throat. Bugs. The deal it offered was a horror, and Jordan closed his eyes for a long moment and swallowed hard. In purely practical terms, none of them was a good trade. But he'd never subscribed to the thought that trainees were expendable. His eyes flickered to the others, looking at each of them briefly, and then he stepped forward, desummoning Ferros as he moved. The weapon offered up only a subdued protest. "Let him go," they said.

Melvin knew something was up. For an entire horseman lair to beep in one moment and be gone in another. However, a deal was not what he had foreseen. Why hadn't it just killed Myron? Why would one hunter be more valuable than another? And why wouldn't it just overtake all of them then? It had let the worm kill all the others. Why was this a different situation.
Certain deals need a willing host. Saliva pipped in, and he thought of the idea of weapons in and of themselves.
As Jordan stepped forward, he rolled his eyes. Jordan? There was no way in hell he would let a good person like Jordan give himself up. He still had s**t to do in his life. Desummoning Saliva, Melvin also stepped forward.
"Gotta make a choice I think." He said to the creature. There wasn't just one person willing to go, and looked over to Jordan as he stood beside him. "Well aren't you dramatic. Didn't see that from you."

Sherry didn't even need to tell anyone the tablet was going hay-wire again. The sound of insect legs did it for her. Of course it was Horseman. Of course it had Myron. A bargain? That was... interesting. While Sherry contemplated what it might mean, Jordan and then Melvin both stepped forward. Sherry had to smile at the nobility of it. A good team indeed. Sherry looked over at Connor, then back at the other two before her. It was a bad deal. There was no way around that. No one was worth giving up. Not a single one of them. Not even Myron. The tablet in her hands was shoved in Connor's direction. She still held onto her weapon with one hand, but she took a step forward. "Do you promise everyone else gets to go free?" It didn't do any good to sacrifice yourself for nothing okay.

"N-no it's okay," Myron was half crying half whimpering, the blade creating a thin trickle of blood down his neck, "I'm- I'm okay. Just leave me."
"Myron," Connor also edged closer to the group, as fast as his limp would allow him, "You need to be strong. You're a Hunter, don't show fear, be brave."
The trainee was now crying uncontrollably, hiccuping, and there was just a long lapse of standstill. At last, the horseman sighed, tossing Myron onto the floor right in front of Jordan. "Boring, ssoo boring. Humans are too weak. This isn't the fun ssshe promised."
And surprisingly, it backed away. "Bring more of your kind next time, bring reinforcements. This shepherd awaitsss them."
Silence. No horseman, no giant insects. Conner slowly desummoned his weapon, looking grim. "What do you think they meant by bring reinforcements?"

Jordan moved forward to help Myron up, frowning grimly. He didn't know what the horseman had expected, but they had apparently disappointed it. "Kinda sounds like they're gearing up to do something. What do you think it meant by shepherd?" His hands didn't shake. He was grateful. "We need to get out of here. I'm not sure we can hold out against that worm again if it decides to come back."

Despite volunteering, he was beyond relieved that they weren't going to piss off the shadow creature into just taking them all out for not following the 1 sacrifice rule. Glad Myron was back in their care, he moved to help Connor while Jordan took Myron.
"Sounds like they want us to be messengers and to send everything we have. Whatever it means, not our call. We need to get you two back and get your leg looked at before something happens with that tooth."
