What did he just say?

Gretchen felt her breath freeze in her lungs, and dark eyes widened. he didn't know it was her. He didn't know it was her! "Dylon stop!" What was he seeing? What was putting that level of hopeless fear in his eyes, and what was the cause?

(No time! Do not be weak. Ssssstrike!)

"I will not!" She shouted it, frustrated and afraid, and her staff came up to deflect the worst of the blow Dylon had aimed at her. "Dylon, It's me!"

All he could see were lies. Blips of the real Gretchen overshadowed by vines lashing out at him, and that voice pressuring him to see past what he wanted to see. He let that one monster go, and got attacked by another. The only option was to kill them, or he'd become their prey.

"Mark, where are you.." He murmured to himself, striking again and again in a frenzied pace. He had to keep this thing at bay until mark came back. If he came back.. he'd said something about urges like eating brains. Well, he ought to have pointed that advice on the so called Gretchen imposter. She was the one after his life.

"I'm not the infected one.. it was her all along."

There was no time between attacks now. Dylon was trying to over power her, beat past her defense, but she couldn't let him do that. She had to hang on, just a little while longer. Mark was going to come back for them, and then he'd fix Dylon ,and they could go home. And everything would be fine!

Another small scream as the blades crashed and ground against the length of her staff, but with teeth grit she pushed him back.

"Fight it Dylon!" Pivoting, she brough the staff around, pushing the blunt end of it in against his chest, trying to gain enough leverage to hold him back and away from her. Injured or not, he was still bigger than her, and still had that unnatural strength. "It's not real! Whatever you're seeing, what ever you're hearing. It's not real!

There was real desperation in her voice now. The broken edge of tears that threatened to fall. This was like that time she'd woken in the dorms covered in blood.

No.

This was worst.

She was awake for this. She was in control.

"MARK!" Her voice broke as she screamed it.

She pushed him back, and he staggered, losing balance.

You're going to die.

"I don't wanna die.."

She's going to kill you.

"Please, I can't die." He hiccuped, his vision spotting, even through sheer force of will trying to break through the pain and sickness. "Edith saved me, and I promised her I wouldn't do it again.."

He grit his teeth, his fists clenched tightly beneath the guards of his weapons. He seemed to be talking to himself more than to Gretchen. "I made a promise.. I won't let myself die."

He looked up, gearing up for another attack. "You can't trick me! I won't let you!" He thrust his good arm forward, as his left felt numb at this point from over-use and lack of blood, despite the wound no longer losing any more.

"Uh, problem," Mark's voice finally rang through the headset and there were very bright flashes of green in the distance and the sound of something roaring through the headset, "we've got a really bad situation." There were loud cracks what sounded like trees collapsing into the distance, tens at once.

The sky suddenly turned very, very dark.

Dylon also stopped struggling, his body no longer his to control. His eyes were a horrific, sickly green as he stared straight at Gretchen and spoke in a very broken, estranged voice. It shattered her hearing for a second, piercing her mind, making her feel broken, vulnerable, nauseous. "I will not rest until I have my eyes."

And then, without reason, Dylon started to run forward, deeper into the darkness as the tips of a large dark shape emerged from the fog, covered in twisted vines that extended all directions. It grew taller and taller, a massive giant, contours now visible through the white, shaped like a serpent. A massive jaw split open and snapped at any undead close to it, swallowing them, as it grew larger and larger still, hooded neck nearly blotting out the sky, heading a different direction, as if lazily chasing something.

Even then, Dylon could not help but try to follow it.

Bittiface
In a fever haze, Dylon hears Edith's voice telling him to not falter. His weapon too can feel it, both their consciousnesses fading. Him and his weapon can now both try to struggle to break out of his trance. Roll 1d6 - odd = he succeeds and breaks out of the green-eyes control, even = he fails and watches as his body walks uncontrollably towards the mass to join it

Beejoux
Peyton can try to drag Dylon away, however, touching him immediately makes her nearly lose consciousness as a voice tell her very strongly to return the eye. Roll 2d12 to try and pull Dylon away. If you roll even, if Dylon fails on breaking out of control, he can now roll again. If odd, as she touches him, her mind becomes filled with only the sight of a very simple-looking book with green words in an unknown language embedded in the cover.

"Problem?!" It came out entirely too squeaky, and quite frantic. "What could possibly be more impor-" There was a bright flash of sickly green off in the distance, and something huge shaking the trees. No, Knocking the trees over altogether. She Stared at the destruction wide eyed for a moment, her mouth falling open in disbelief, until the pressure pushing back on her staff ceased.

It was startling, and she almost stumbled forward, but she caught herself at the last second with her staff stuck in the ground like like a kickstand. "Dyl...on...?" He'd stopped talking, stopped trying to attack her, and now he was just staring back, eyes wide, unnaturally green, and whoever was looking through them, it wasn't the flirty Moon hunter she was familiar with.

Then he spoke again, but it wasn't him It wasn't anything she'd ever heard before. Nothing innature. Loud, but not. Painful. Like spikes driving their way through her head. Devika hit the ground a second or two before Gretchen's knees, and she let out an awful scream as she clasped her hands over her ears, trying to block it out.

She was going to be sick.

...

No, she was going to black out.

Gretchen had been forgotten. His will to fight what was taking over fell away. All he saw was the massive creature. It drew him in, even as it walked away. Desperate, he took off towards it. As if chasing the only bus home, he jogged or walked and sometimes ran, branches scraping any bare skin and cut tears in his sleeves and coat.

He couldn't think. he could only act. One singular focus kept him going...

Until he stumbled. That fall allowed the real Dylon a break. A chance to take back his body. His face in the soil, Dylon gasped and coughed. Whatever had made him run towards that hideous behemoth had weakened.

Afraid to look at it again, as if it might take control of his brain, he remained down, gripping his fingers into the dirt as he caught his breath.

"Gretch..."

He sat up and looked around, behind him. What had happened to her? Was she alright?

"Gretchen?!"

The voice stopped, and with it the pain and everything else that'd come with it. Gretchen blinked, hands falling away from the sides of her head slowly, and then straightened up. Dylon was no longer in front of her, he was...

"Dylon!" She spotted him charging through the fog, straight towards where the trees had been falling, only now she knew exactly what had been knocking them over. "Oh my God."

(You're going to let him charge ssssstraight for that? Coward.)

She flinched, Devika's barb snapping her out of that frozen panic, and she made a grab for the fallen Staff as she scrambled back up on her feet and took off after him. But he was taller than her, and he had two fully functioning legs. He easily expanded the distance between them. "Dylon stop!" She heard him, calling out for her through the fog in front of her, and she said a silent pray of thanks that his voice sounded like him again as she raced towards him.

When she found him Gretchen rushed forward, sinking down to crouch beside him so she could help him up, but the moment she touched him the world seemed to slip side ways. Everything went dark, the chaotic crashing through the trees ahead of them dimmed, and then-

"Return the eye."

Her hands fell away as she fell to her side beside him. (Get up! What is wrong with you?)

Sharp, painful ringing in their ears. As a polyp from the serpent-vine creature split off, forming a smaller shape slowly winding their direction, all they could hear and see for a moment was green.

"RETURN THE EYE."

A moment later a shape was on them, a serpent perhaps around twenty feet in height, long branch-like hands stretching out from the base of its body, propelling it forward as it scattered fog and crass. It erratically paused for a second, and then opened its mouth, splitting far, far beyond its jawline, and tried to swallow Gretchen whole.

It was huge. Bigger than anything he'd faced yet. How were two trainees supposed to take on something so monstrously gigantic? But his teammate and friend had fallen to the floor. He knelt to her in concern..

"Gretchen, are you okay--?" He diverted his attention for her for one moment, and that's when one of the vine like appendages scraped his across the stomach. With a choked grunt, he staggered backward.

They had to fight. There was nowhere to run in this fog.

Dylon gripped his gauntlets tightly, despite the pain in his arm, and ran forward, slicing into the body of the beast with a cry of exertion.

It had only been a second or two, the world being eaten by darkness, and then it all came roaring back in a wave of blinding green, and with it, a voice. The same one she'd heard when she'd touched him. "The...eye?"

Not that she had any time to dwell on that cryptic message. The giant snake had branded off, and a part of it had attacked Dylon, throwing him away from her. Gretchen had to struggle back to her feet, fingers leaving ruts in the dirt as she grabbed for the staff again.

Wielding it like a club, she stepped forward to crack the snake thing upside the head with the heavy metal end of the thing.

"Are you okay, Dylon?" He'd lost a lot of blood, and that had been before he'd taken off at a sprint through the woods.

"I'm fine, babydoll!" Dylon called back amiably with a light laugh. He moved to attack again, only to get his arm snared by another vine. It lifted him up off his feet with sudden force. Using this as an advantage, even as it pulled him higher, Dylon pulled his arm back towards himself and used his other weapon to hack into the gnarly vine.

His arm free again, he winced as he fell to the ground with a thud, his shield feeling pummelled from this battle already.

The vine snake really didn't seem to be appreciating their combined attacks. It grabbed Dylon, yanking the other trainee right off his feet, and Gretchen winced as he managed to free himself, only to fall with a thud to the ground. But he'd said he as alright, and honestly, he looked a bit better as well. Not great, but at least night white as a sheet anymore.

It allowed her to keep more of her attention on the thing that was attacking them, rather than worrying about him. Although it still managed to whip a vine at her ankles, sweeping her feet out from under her to send her crashing to the ground. Then whipping down in a stinging snap across her stomach and chest.

Grunting in pain, she brought he staff around to defend against a second strike, and then thrust it outwards at the things body the second she had a chance at it.

Dylon rushed forward, braving lashing vines and fear of being eaten by a large snake. Both katars at the ready, He swooped in front of Gretchen and slashed a large gash into the snake's stomach.

"I have a charge ready. I can heal you if you need it." He'd forgotten about his own injuries, worried more for the friend he'd attack not so long ago.

"I'm okay!" She ached a bit from the beating the snake had given her, but of the two of them, Dylon was a little bit more worst for wear. "Mine's a heal too, so go ahead and use yours on yourself." If it didn't work, she could use her own on him.
