A strong gust of wind whipped around the tree, shaking the branches. The frozen leaves sounded like wind chimes as they moved in response to the wind. One seed knocked another and soon all five remaining seeds were released from the branch.

The wind carried the seeds towards Takeko, but one unbalanced little seed dropped down towards Vanya.

Takeko hesitated for a moment, looking from the warmly-hued female on the ground, her pleas for help echoing in her head, then towards the dark male clutching the seed protectively. Clearly they were in league with one another...the way he deferred to her in look and voice...yet the female hadn't directly engaged her in hostility as far as she knew. It had been the male that practically admitted to stealing Xiulan, to attacking her in the Clearing...twice now in fact. This...'Lisian,' had the woman called him? Yes, it was him with which Takeko had issue...but the woman on the ground, she could hear the desperation in her tone, see the fear in her eyes...

Angry and hurt as she may be, Takeko wasn't able to find it in herself to spite an honest plea for help. Not when it was clear there were lives at risk, from what she'd put together so far. She'd noted the shout about needing to get someone out...'her?' Who 'her?' There was at least one individual at risk, and from her own experience, she knew the seed she had caught earlier likely contained a little life...one like Xiulan...

What was this about needing to open the exposed root? And they wanted her help now? Ignoring the irony of how determined they'd been to chase her away earlier, Takeko took a few wary steps closer when a sudden gust of wind set the icy leaves above rippling, a tinkling noise drawing her attention upward. Other seeds? Oh no...

The decision was made in a split second, almost subconsciously for the angel. Little ones in danger; the ones on the ground could wait. Her feathered wings flared open, tossing snow and frost out in a radius around her. The seeds were heading in her direction again, blown by the wind, but she wasn't risking letting them get too close to the ground. Takeko's wings beat downward, thrusting her forwards and upwards to meet two of the seeds in the air. They were icy and stung her bare skin, but she caught them gently, cradling one in each arm. She'd be unable to carry more safely, but hopefully the rude monster would be able to handle the other two, if he wasn't roughly snatching the poor things out of her hands again.

Here they came...Vanya could track the faint auras as they tumbled from the tree's branches and headed for the ground below. The Queen had sent her companion to catch them, but would it be enough? Though she continued to remain wary and nervous by the Blood Pae woman's presence, she was relieved to note that two of the seeds reached the earth safely with her assistance. Turning towards the others, she noted that one had separated from the others...and was coming closer.

"Vanya! Up and to your left!" came Veryan's voice close to her ear. Oh, great. She could see the faint aura, but it wasn't exactly a precise way of 'Seeing' things. The Seer relied on her Mellon's guidance to get her hands in even remotely the right position to catch the dropping seed. When the falling weight hit her palms and she wrapped her arms around it, only then did she relax the tension in her form and slump forward with a sigh of relief.

The angel landed lightly on her toes, careful to keep sure footing as she crossed towards the two kneeling women. With a momentary glare in Lisian's direction, she set the two seeds on the ground carefully nearby, then turned to the exposed root. The angel crouched, her feathered wings attempting to block some of the chilling winds while she studied the exposed root. Open the root, she had said. "What do we do?" she questioned, her hand clutching the warm blade, still in its sheath with the handle partly visible from her fist. Open the root? Cut it open? But...wouldn't that hurt the tree? Weren't they worried about the tree itself though? But if the problem was beneath it, and if they were careful...perhaps they could only cut a bit...minimize the damage in order to get the harmful bit out? Like cleaning an infected wound so that it could heal properly. As she pondered this possibility,
she reached out to lay her hand on the root, to study the surface with her fingers and test its strength.

Takeko's gentle fingers touch the bark of the tree created by thousand year old concentrated magic and a single seed from Laisidhiel. The others witness Takeko activate a new type if magic and they can feel the energy as it pulsed outward from her hand. The power is intense and ripples up her arm, and flows over her entire being. The bright, white light showered over her, encircling her slowly until she was encased completely.

The warm, white light parts, like a curtain, and the green-haired pae enter. The shifting breeze causes leaves to fall from her hair. She reaches out, and gently brushes Takeko's cheek. Takeko can hear "Thank you," but the woman's lips never break her smile. She fades as the light falls around her.

A grand and powerful angel stands before the flutters and Vanya, for Takeko has become Hallowed. An important ally to the land.

She has gained new abilities with this transformation. She can "read" all flora to know how to help, heal or grow. She can lay her hands on any tree, and 'communicate" using the vast intertwined network of the trees of Telrunya. Including Laisidhiel's children. (but not Laisidhiel herself).

She has become one of the chosen to begin the healing process of the island.

Surrounding Takeko, there remains a gentle wamth that has melted the snow and ice, exposing more of the ground below and the exposed root, which is now obvious to be swollen. The seeds are now thawing.

At his Queen's cries, Lisian turned his eyes back up towards the tree's top. Sure enough, his heart clenched as he saw the wind tearing at the rest of them. As it managed to wriggle one free he leaped back into action, heading for Takeko. At the same time she noticed, taking action to grab the ones closest to her. Without thinking, he flared his wings, allowing the burst of wind from her wing's motion to push him away from her and towards the others that were out of reach from her. The little boost she'd unknowingly offered got him there just in time, grabbing the additional seeds out of the air and pressing their frozen shells against himself. It stung, but the warmth of joy at succeeding to save them almost made it bearable.

He clung to them with dear life, landing gently to the ground. He could feel his muscles trembling from the effort in the cold and the fear of what could have happened to them. He walked back to the rest of the group, piling the seeds together as Takeko crouched by the exposed root. He looked them over to ensure each one was still in tacked, but where was the sixth? He felt his heart drum in his chest as he looked up and saw it safely in Vanya's arms. They'd done it. It would be ok-

A bright light blinded Lisian, but even so he managed to get himself between Belwen and Takeko a split second after it started. He pressed his back against her, pushing her back away from the light, keeping his front forward so he'd be ready to tackle any threat that came, but it wasn't a threat. Instead it was... a transformation? How'd she do that and for what purpose?

His eyes didn't leave the angel nor did he move from his protective stance in front of the Queen. Instead, he remained focused on her, but took in some of the scene around her. Had it melted the ice? How? Why? His mind was now racing with questions he couldn't voice. Her response to this moment would tell him enough about what was going on here...

The ripple of magic raced up her arm, strange, yet comforting; powerful, yet reassuring. The warmth wrapped around her form, sheltering her from the cold and melting the frost from her feathers and hair. The light that surrounded her was bright, yet not blindingly so, as she was quickly startled by a figure entering...through the light? She brushed it aside as if it were a curtain, stepping closer to the angel.

Her again.

So...she wasn't a hallucination? As strange as this all was, Takeko was pretty sure she wasn't hallucinating this time. She felt lucid. Besides, did hallucinations repeat themselves? It seemed more and more like this woman's appearance meant something, but...what? As strange as it all seemed, Takeko felt no sense of fear or panic at this turn of events, the woman's presence seeming to radiate calm and peace. The angel didn't move as she reached for her cheek, even perhaps leaning momentarily into the gentle touch. The 'thank you' echoed through her mind, though the woman's lips never moved. In a flash, the notion hit her. The figure began to fade with the light and Takeko reached out.

"Mother?!?"

But the light had faded, the last signs that the woman had been there at all being a couple of leaves riding away on the wind before fading as well. Takeko was back with the others in the Clearing, reaching out to nothing ahead of her. Biting her lip, she sank back, settling on her knees and not yet noticing the changes aside from how she was no longer freezing.

Vanya had certainly noticed.

The Faun Seer was sitting with back rigid and arms wrapped tightly around the seed in her arms. Had...had that Blood Pae just walked over here...and ascended herself?!? But no, that surge of energy... For a moment, Vanya had sworn she'd detected another presence within that pulse of energy. A familiar presence...and yet not. Almost like...no it wasn't her. Could there be another whose presence felt like that though? The feeling of magic and the energy was so similar...

Even now, that energy hung in the air. Vanya had not missed the Blood Pae's word as that energy had started to fade. Mother. It couldn't be. She thought back to the letter she'd received in Laisidhiel. Could it be though that she'd been the one mistaken? That the one calling her out here hadn't been Earthmother at all...but someone else? Though the pulse of power had faded, she noticed that neither had it returned to its previous level. The Blood Pae's aura was brilliant, glowing...on the level of brilliancy that Vanya would associate with one of the Faun Circle.

Though she'd not had the ability to read auras at the time of the Circle's original ascension, Vanya had developed the ability later on and was well familiar with how the auras of those who had awakened as members of the Circle glowed brighter than those of normal Pae'il. When she'd arrived, this Blood Pae'il had seemed 'normal' as far as she could tell. And now...she glowed like an ascended...but how? And what did it mean?

In the silence, Takeko had finally taken note of how different she felt. It was more than just the warmth and relief from the cold; she felt...alive. Brimming with new energy. She began to flex her wings, having been used to the snow and frost clinging to them. Instead, they were not only free from the cold, but felt larger, stronger than before. Only now, she began looking at herself, noting the changes. "By the Guard-" she began breathlessly, leaning to one side and catching herself with one hand. That hand landed upon the tree root again, and she jerked away as if burned. It wasn't her hand she held afterward, but her head. Voices! One louder than the rest, in agony, pain, pleading for help, with others in the background creating a cacophony of noise in her head! Fortunately, it had stopped as soon as she broke contact.

Was that...? If it was, she'd never been able to do that before. Somehow, though, she just knew...the tree was trying to speak to her.

Swallowing hard, she prepped herself before reaching out to touch the root again. "I want to help," she said quietly, wincing against the sudden noise in her head again. "But, you have to tell me how." The others would see her seem to concentrate for a few moments, then turn and look at the small knife in her off-hand. She studied the handle, the scene of snow whirling about a tree, and it seemed to determine her course of action. She withdrew only to remove the sheath from the blade, swap hands, then put her left back against the root to re-establish the connection. In her right, she held the small blade like a scalpel. It seemed almost comical, the tiny blade and the large swollen root beneath her hand. That couldn't possibly work, could it?

Yet, as she laid the blade tentatively against the root, she need only breathe and the blade began to cut. Pushing aside her own surprise for now, she began making cuts, quickly and cleanly as a surgeon at work.

All went still in Belwen's world. No one moved in that one moment when she witnessed the light rain down on the monster, and when Mother appeared. Why was Mother here? Why was she chosen?

As time caught up with the flutter queen and the world became chaos once again, she pushed Lisian aside (she'd be sorry later) and fell in front of Takeko as she cut into the sacred wood of the southern tree of life. Every ounce of her being wanted to shout and push the stranger away, to stop her from hurting the tree further.

But Mother.

"Lisian..." she murmured and reached for him. "We'll need your help." Belwen shook, and looked to grab his hand with a need to cling to something familiar and safe. "Vanya, tell me, is she still alive?"

Lisian couldn’t move, couldn’t even think. Everything was starting to overwhelm him. He had so many unanswered questions along with his emotions feeling like they were being bunched up inside of him. The panic, the uncertainty of the tree’s life it all just hung there… Then the addition of the thief and now this? He couldn’t even process a hint of it.

When Belwen pushed passed him he attempted to reach out to stop her, “Queen…” he murmured. It was the only reflex still working for him. Protect the trees and his Queen. It was the only thing that was making sense in all of this, but at the same time was there even anything to protect her from at this point? He let his hand fall and let her go.

Even so, there she was calling for him. He didn’t hesitate a moment but came to her side before her words could completely leave her lips. He took her hand up in his as she searched for it without a word. He couldn’t protect her from these emotions, from this pain she was feeling, but he could do what he could to help support her through it. From her touch he could tell she was shaking- was she still cold? He flared his wings drawing close to her in an attempt to block any other wings stirring around them. “I’m here. I’m ready to do what I can.”

'Is she still alive?' The words burned into his mind. She? Who was the Queen referring to? His mind was piecing it together as he trudged through the swamp of emotions in his mind. He’d been so wrapped up in the moment of what was going on around him he hadn’t picked up on what his Queen was really saying until this point. He went stiff for a moment as he watched the angel cut at the root. Had this knowledge not set a flame of understanding burning in his mind he might have had a different reaction to her actions. Even so it hurt him deeply. Every stroke of the blade against it sent painful shocks up his spine. Was this really the only way?

He silently prayed.

Every breath paused as Takeko gingerly cut through the layers.

As she cut deeper, the more the tree pulsed like it had a heartbeat of it's own. Takeko's silver knife slid through the wood like butter and the living wood peeled back as easy as paper. The wood shifted in color, changing from silvery-purple to dark pink. When Takeko hit the red layer with just the touch of her 'scalpel' a cold energy burst, knocking everyone back as it washed away the chill. The jolt of energy could be felt as far as Forn Sheedhiel.

The cold wind and snow stopped. The ice started to melt.

At the epicenter of the blast, was a small crater. Harn had just lost a root. But one thing remained, untouched.

In the center of the crater, previously stuck in Harn Sheedhiel's root, a young flutter lay curled in on herself with her wings wrapped around her. She almost looked like a chrysalis with how tightly squeezed she had been in that root. When the daylight hit her face, she moved a delicate hand to shield the light.

Belwen's voice cut through Vanya's thoughts, shaking her free if only for a moment. Is she still alive? The Tree? Wait, no... That wasn't what the Queen meant. Frowning, Vanya focused her Vision, reaching out... "...she's--" The blast of cold energy forced them all back and Vanya felt an additional ripple of unseen power push outward, past them all and moving beyond the immediate area. She had fallen to one side, instinctively curling around the frozen...no, not-so-frozen-anymore seed in her arms. What had...?

The freezing burst of energy had sent the angel reeling as well. Perhaps Takeko fared a bit better than the lightweight flutters, having attempted to shield herself from some of the force with her new larger wings. Still she had been sent sprawling over the chilled, melting ground. The silver knife had been thrown from her hand for only a few seconds before she recovered and scrambled to reclaim it. Her breath hitched, her chest tightening...then calming as her hand closed over the handle of the blade once more. She had been startled at first to see how easily her blade had sliced through the root's layers. Clearly, it was a powerful artifact indeed that she'd been entrusted with and now more than ever, she was determined to keep the precious tool safe in her care.

But, what exactly had she just done?

After a cursory glance at the others to see them similarly thrown back, but otherwise unharmed, Takeko's attention returned to the new crater in the landscape ahead of them. Regaining her balance, she cautiously crept towards the edge of the crater to peer down inside. She'd had an inkling...if what the Tree had said was true...and if she'd actually been 'hearing' the Tree inside her head afterall and not just her imagination running wild...or more hallucinations again...but no, this all still felt extremely real. And the proof lay there in the bottom of the hole. She'd done the right thing...

...right?

Balanced on her knees, one hand on the rim of the crater, Takeko reached the other out towards the stirring teen in the bottom of the hole as an offering of help. "Are you alright, dear? Can you move?"

Lisian hadn’t been expecting the blast, but even so his body reacted on instinct. He dug his hooves into the ground, leaning into the blast and using his body to support Belwen to keep her from being thrown back as well. His wings folded up as tightly as they could against his body to keep them from whipping him back as well. It came quickly and left just as soon, leaving Lisian blinking in question. What had-

Any words he had been forming, ones to assure his Queen everything was ok, were lodged in his throat. Even though everything was melting around them he felt a furious shiver run up his arms and down his back. W-what was going on? His hand stilling holding Belwen’s was clamped tightly around hers as if it could keep back the rush of emotions hitting him.

Lavender eyes blinked furiously against the light that was streaming into her cage. Ever since her emergence from the chrysalis that’s how it had felt to her- an ever shrinking cage that threatened to crush her. How had this happened to her? Why her? But those thoughts had been drowned out by the sound. It was new, she was certain of it. Spending so much time in one place you got to really get to know it and this sound, it hadn’t been there before.

It sounded like something... rubbing? Was something rubbing the roots above her? There was definitely something going on and it took everything within her to keep from getting hopeful. She didn't know how long she'd been here, but one thing was for sure she couldn't expect every new sound to be her savior. Sure enough though, despite the confusion and the sudden release, here she was blinking up at… at what? The face looked calm and sure of itself. Her eyes searched this face seeking any ounce of trouble from it. Why was she so scared? Why was she trembling?

It was… it was just all too new.

A shaking hand reached out and took the other’s. She opened her mouth and her voice cracked from tears and unuse, “I’m-I’m ok.” The voice was barely over a whisper. For a moment she hesitated, unsure how to even move in this new body of hers. Wasn't like there had ever been enough room in here. First her wings peeled back even further to give her room, then one hoof in front of the other in order to give herself a way to push up. It didn’t work at first. When she was about to huff in frustration and give up, hands slid under her arms and she was being lifted up. The dark one was practically picking her up and out of her cage.

As her head emerged, she blinked madly, shunning away from the bright sun. Soon hooves touched the ground, but unable to keep herself standing she was lowered to the ground. The dark one released her and stepped away from her. What was this emotion she saw in his eyes? She took time to compose herself, turning her face back to the group. Her cheeks were red, matching the bloodshot red of her eyes. She’d been crying, hard. Even her trembling figure was a telltale sign of that. As her eyes adjusted she took in the faces around her, pausing at Belwen.

Fresh tears sprung up in her eyes as their eyes met. When her eyes met her's, her heart gave a painful squeeze. All she wanted was for this one to hold her, tell her it was ok. Why was she draw to her? Without much thought and with little strength she crawled towards the other and fell into her arms, sobbing hard once again. Her wails were painful to hear, but at the same time the amount of relief that was in them was overwhelming. She was free! She was free…

Belwen couldn't even blink if she wanted to. In her panicked state, her mind rushed through a million memories and even more possibilities or outcomes. Was the once untrustworthy stranger about to save the life of Harn Sheedhiel?

Her heart nearly exploded (figuratively) when Harn's root was cut open with a blast. The energy wave that blew everything -including the ice- back felt like relief. At that moment, the pain stopped. Harn was scared but not panicking. Belwen was no longer sharing the intense feelings from Harn or Forn. However her own feelings remained, but not so heightened. She exhaled slowly and when Lisian lifted the young lady from her tiny spot, her prison, the flutter queen lunged forward to cling to the girl. "I'm so glad you're here. I'm so glad you are alive." She whispered.

"Vanya, thank you! Without you, we would have never know what to do."

Tear-soaked eyes opened and focused on Takeko. It was humbling, but the queen thanked the stranger who was once untrustworthy, considered a monster in her mind. With the little flutter still in her arms, comforting and caressing, Belwen also offered a sincere apology to Takeko. "Please, forgive us. We will make everything right again." And she offered an outstretched hand.

Belwen kissed the top of the girl's head and gently lay her cheek against the teen's hair. "Has Harn given you a name yet?"

It did escape her mind that everything started melt, including those 6 frozen seeds.

The arms that enclosed around her felt like home. Suddenly her scary world was enveloped in warmth and gentleness, as the older flutter's sweet voice washed over the young flutter's ears. All her fear and worry rolled off her back and she felt light once again. Her tears continued to run, but it was a freeing feeling. Now she wasn't crying out for help, she was actually glad.

She soaked in the other's scent, her warmth, completely forgetting the world around her for a moment. She forgot about how her tiny body slowly filled the space she had lived in, emerging from her chrysalis finding it inadequate for her. Even now with room to move her wings even hadn't stretched themselves out. The affects of her tiny living space were there, but for this moment it was like nothing bad had ever happened to her...

She turned her head up to the other, breaking the moment she was in, but not ruining it. She was still overjoyed and her dancing eyes said as much. She tilted her head up at her for a second, searching her memories. She'd been in such a deep sleep for so long she'd almost forgotten about it. They were what kept her sane through her younger years alone, that soft gentle inner voice that sang and spoke to her, though her ears never heard it and she couldn't explain the 'sound' of the voice. It was like a knowing.

“A...” she hesitated. “Alora. It called me Alora.”

The ice melted and the air surrounding the small group grew warmer. Harn Sheedhiel thawed and the water from the melting leaves rained down, cleansing the the ground. The southern flutter tree opened up, ready for the warm spring. The first and only Winter hibernation had ended and the flutters within Harn Sheedhiel awoke, without knowledge of what took place outside of their home. The magical freeze had put the tree in a suspended animation.

Lost to the flutters for several seasons was Harn Sheedhiel's queen. All flutters were led to believe Indilwen lead Harn. But she, as the little sister of real queen, went missing. The real queen, the real avatar of Harn Sheedhiel had finally been found.

The young girl, the flutter born of the seed that grew into Harn Sheedhiel had become trapped within the root system, unable to get out. She spent her seasons as a small paeterpillar living in a a small space within the roots. Her little body became frozen during metamorphosis. The harsh temperatures and snow and ice the North Wind brought down the mountain triggered the chrysalis wedged in the root to crack. No longer was the small space the tiny grub lived in big enough for a newly hatched teenager. She cried in pain, in fear and agony. Harn channeled those feelings to her twin tree and to Belwen.

The Angel Takeko was called upon by the island to help the flutters. Her hard work and dedication to the land and Telrunya's children was rewarded by the mysterious "Mother". Takeko ascended to become Hollowed, given new powers and new insight. She has entered the next phase of Pae'il development on the path to enlightenment and becoming a Luminary.

Vanya was brought to Fae Clearing, across the island from her home, led by this mysterious "Mother" to help the endangered tree. The vital information she has learned will be of great importance to Rais and Laisidhiel.

=======================

Unaware of anything aside from the emergence of the true queen of Harn, the ice surrounding the seeds from the frozen tree melted...

The seed in Vanya's arms cracked and a small little grub wiggled out only to attach himself to her chest and nuzzle in to her fur.

Concept Contest: Frozen Flutters
Now - until Wednesday, July 19th, 2017
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Our new little ice princess has come with a frozen harvest. Because this species is considered a higher RP mastery than others, we are going to give you a chance of obtaining some through a concept contest. We want you to create a well rounded character that fits into this setting. It's a very deliberate setting with important rules that need to be followed. We want to see that you know what these are along with how to have a character that will help this setting and META along.

To do this we have pulled together a series of thought provoking questions to see if you've been keeping up with this line of the META, and if you're able to keep up with the RP requirements that come along with them. Once you have finished answering these questions, please PM them to Guardian Iris.

A Little Background

We will not be providing background on any of these seeds or flutters in general because we're looking for players who know of their sub-culture, pay attention to the details and read this Notice.

*~*~*

Rules

  • DO NOT post your app in here. If you do it'll tell us you haven't read the rules and you will immediately be disqualified.
  • It's recommended that you familiarize yourself with the Flutters and their subculture before applying.
  • Put 'Purple Jellyfish' at the bottom of your app as a way to tell us you've read these rules and understand the setting of this RP.
  • You will be expected to follow the RP guidelines and rules, to maintain the integrity of our plot. If you cannot agree to the setting of these characters then don't apply. We aren't looking for a special snowflake or a rebel.
  • These 6 flutters will have a special bond with Alora, the queen of Harn Sheedhiel, as they were sprouted because of her. They are not allowed to hate, dislike or disrespect her in any way.
  • Put effort into your application. We want to see the thoughtfulness behind your answers. If you're writing a bunch of one liners it will tell us a lot about how you'll be RPing the character...
