The Sahara was, if possible, Gale's most hated place in living - and dead - memory.

He couldn't shake the sense of nerves that was rippling up and down his spine as he stepped out onto the all-too-familiar setting, his teeth gritted against the instinctive urge to run. Gale dragged in a breath, his chest feeling tight, and readjusted his headset, willing himself not to find Mark and throttle him.

The box of goggles he uncovered could be useful; Gale was in the process of sorting through them when he saw her.

No.

A jolt of recognition, followed by a wave of panic that was tailed by an ice cold chill that seemed to settle itself in Gale's bones. He almost dropped the box of goggles, Gale's mouth dropping open instead, eyes wide, and for a few seconds, he couldn't seem to make himself move.

Impossible. It's impossible.

Except it wasn't. Because she was here. She was here, in the Sahara, and -

No. No.

His jaw snapped shut once more. Gale straightened, tucked the box of goggles under one arm, and stalked across the length of space between them. With a gloved hand he reached out, wrapped fingers around the girl's arm, and twisted her around.

There was no doubt at all. Gale felt his stomach drop somewhere to his feet.

"What the hell are you doing here, Tempest?"

The sand was kind of annoying. Travis was doing his very best to shrug it off. He was here to DO STUFF and he wasn't going to let a little bit of sand stop him.

The thing that might stop him was the fact that he had no idea at all what he was looking for. What did signs of missing people even look like?

Was he looking for tracks? Blood? Arrows drawn in sand?

None of those would last in this weather.

"Oh, right." Radulfr clearly knew more about these things than Travis did.

He shuffled around in the sand, looking for anything that didn't seem to match. He was on the verge of giving up when he stepped on something that wasn't sand. A cellphone? A very sad looking cellphone. Maybe this had been left by the missing hunters? He didnt' know who else might have been out here in this mess of a sandbox.

Travis turned it on. "Hey is works!" It didn't work well, however. There was a video that he couldn't' see, and words that made no sense. He listened to it three times before pocketing the phone. He'd have to see if he could find anything of more help.

Quote:
6. You find a beat up cellphone. It is still working and begins to play a clip. Only the sound is working on it, the video too pixellated, and it is just someone faintly shouting "FAMINE CL-"

"Dwight left me his legacy," Mark said in response to Elio, "His body is here man, his soul, begging for help, you just got to search within yourself, you're his only hope."

A pause. "Also because his Pokemon game told me to go here."

Tempest wasn't being particularly stealthy, standing there wiping sand off her hands and onto her scythe-emblazoned coat. She didn't take kindly to being pulled away, wresting her arm back before she even saw who'd grabbed it.

She felt her breath catch in her throat for a moment. She hadn't expected to find him so soon - or rather, for him to find her first. "Hi, Gale."

{ Familiar face? How unusual. }

"Archaeology," she responded quickly and sarcastically, kicking the skull away. She gestured to her standard-issue uniform with one hand, the other very firmly attached to her shiny new magic sword. "I'm a Hunter, Gale. I'm hunting. Someone named Dwight, I suppose. I don't know, ask that guy playing Pokemon into all of our headsets."

In one swift motion she reached into the box at Gale's side and claimed a package of goggles for herself. "How about you, though? Not looking as dead as I expected you to be."

Not yet, anyway.

"A what?" Mark asked in response to Melody, as a particularly loud blast of wind hit the headset. "Oh, Fight Club, the movie. It's a movie with Brad Pitt and he's really good, and how have you not watched it?" Mark then began to quote lines from this movie for the next five minutes to anyone else listening.

Sherry wondered if it was too late to go home and pretend she never got the text.

She didn't want to go wandering around in the Sahara again. She didn't want to almost die in the Sahara again. She hated the Sahara, and the fact that there weren't' rotting bodies was the only saving grace she could see. She wanted to sigh but she didn't want to open her mouth - sand was gross.

Sherry gave herself a full three minutes to be grumpy and hate life, and then she put on her headset and straitened her coat. Rescue mission. People needed help, and Sherry would help.

She set off, not too fast, just so she could perhaps keep an eye on some of the trainees running around. She couldn't decide if it was better or worse not knowing what to expect here. (Sherry expected anything.)

She almost tripped over the gray cord in the sand. "Nintendo?" A charger cable, by the looks of it. Hm.

"How long have they been missing, Mark?"

"Long enough for them to miss all my rp tags," Mark answered, as if this was the most important thing that could have happened to indicate any period of absence, "We even were going to have a meta going on and all."

Listening to himself breathe in the dark, Dwight spends his time thinking of everything good right now, a mantra against everything surrounding him. His projects were going well, RUI was going into beta next quarter, funding approved. Star Wars was great again. Mimsy had her mom back. There were fewer hunter deaths last year than in the previous sixteen. Joy and Hope were fine. Felicia was...capable, a survivor. She'd be fine.

It'd been days of this though, and at the dregs of any remaining silver lining, Dwight thought, half hysterical, At least I won't have to tag all those threads. All three dozen of them because Mark is in like, heat or something.

Terry was about to answer regarding knowing the big man when the mission was apparently underway. He wordlessly followed to retrieve a headset and help in searching. Even if he wasn't at all aware of who these hunters were and who this Mr. or Ms. Wight was and what they looked like. The Sahara heat was intense to say the least and he understood why they would have thought to bring water.

He was just glad that Melody hadn't gone and abandoned him. Not that he could blame her had she made what was the obvious correct decision. Agata chided him for his negative thinking, then added he could have done far worse. Such as accidentally shoving her whole hand into his mouth.

Which prompted Terry to ignore his weapon while he searched. Melody seemed to have found something of interest, and in Terry's case so did he. Although it was less interesting for the mission objective as the mission search itself.

"Melody, I believe goggles might prove to be useful in the desert." And he supposed the others nearby could make use of them as well.

The petite Death arrived at the lighthouse and waited for the Death lead to give them their usual briefing. She was dumbfounded to see Mark and more of what he said. She could clearly catch the dea - before he changed his words about Caelius's status. It was hard to accept the irresponsible Death Assistant now became their leader temporarily. A surge of strong reluctancy made her winced like a cat smelt a smelly sock.

She felt grateful for the emergency of Dwight which won over and became the top priority. On the other hand, Sahara meant he might be kidnapped by the horsemen and in his plight. That was a terrible whim in turns gave her a chill at her back. She didn't want to lose anyone she know anymore, it hurts too much.

Shu quickly grabbed a headset and got into the portal. The enviroment of the desert was harsh, scorching sands, heat arose from the ground and blasting winds with sand snapping all over her exposed skin.

Sooner, other hunters began to ask questions for a better efficiency. While Mark only able to provide inaccurate information which had an adverse effect. The overhear of the pokemon game music had caught on her nerves, again, he only knew pushing his jobs to others even when it's his best friend's life.

The mass was spread over on the remains of a previous hunter base, she easily spotted a radio set buried in sand, with just a corner revealed. She brushed off the sand and took it out. It was emitting long and short beeps which she realized was a morse code.

She carefully listened to it a few times, until she was familar where the repeats started and stopped.

"Anyone has a handy morse code chart or expert? Listen to this." She picked up the radio set and let her headset be closest to the speaker of the radio. "I had written down the frequencies, but I dunno what the message mean."

After her infirmary stay, Joy was looking forward to being allowed to move about again. And it figured that she would end up in one of the dryest places in the world. She couldn't help but grin at it. Oh well, at least she would be able to stay hydrated. The laptop she dug up didn't seem important though...

In her search, she did manage to find some familiar faces and who could blame her for gravitating towards them?

"Hey, Shu, find anything about Dwight?" Joy didn't know him per se, just what she'd seen on twitter but one of their own was missing. That was reason enough for her to care.

Prolixity

Marcus answered over the headset, voice heavy with the weariness that came with doing this for what felt like way to many times.

"You're not a real full hunter until you've been ankle deep in decaying corpses at least once."

He paused.

"Or waist deep in melted and decayed ones. That amazon mission was fun too."

Marcus's dry humor was not all that funny.

Between the two of them, it had taken little time for Mimsy and Caroline to figure out what the mission was about. This primarily consisted of an exceedingly one-sided text exchange, as it often did, but they could agree that the probability was obviously high that this had something to do with Mark rescuing Dwight in the Sahara.

For Mimsy, this had presented the exact sort of conundrum between information and intuition in which people often advised one to 'follow their conscience' to determine the answer - and in her case, that conscience was Dwight. This was substantially more literal than the saying probably intended, but she assumed that the result was meaningful all the same, and resolved that accompanying Mark on what may or may not have been a rescue mission was the right thing to do.

Caroline, meanwhile, had decided to go on the mission as soon as she'd received the text, and had already prepared her supplies and changed into 'Sahara-ready' attire, which looked more like a mix between the wardrobes of Star Wars and Fury Road, by the time it took Mimsy to make one single decision.

Though they arrived together and stood near each other, they could not have looked any more dissimilar - one wore lighter, neutral colors, and the other was dressed almost entirely in black; one gave a warm and welcoming smile to anyone who looked in her direction, and the other expertly ignored the presence of any others in attendance; one listened to their instructions respectfully and quietly, while the other fidgeted and texted. By the time they began to file towards the portal with everyone else, Mimsy was already annoyed that her value of impeccable behavior was not being shared. This went over her mother's head, who was already in the process of making it worse.

"I don't think you're ready for the roleplay where I call you 'sir', but hey, we'll give it a shot," Caroline called to Mark as she passed by, paired (naturally) with a finger-gun point and a wink.

Mimsy looked like she would have been fine with accepting death at that moment. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath before silently retrieving her headset, refusing to look Mark in the eye. She'd already come to a conclusion about him and her mother, which had been the wrong conclusion unbeknownst to her, but she had no interest in revisiting it to determine its validity.

"I am going to find my brother," Mimsy irritably muttered to her, adjusting her glasses before she stepped through the portal. Caroline wasn't really sure why that was suddenly relevant - Lucky could probably find them on his own - so she simply shrugged and followed her through shortly thereafter.

By the time Mimsy arrived, Lucky was already hard at work hardly working. Most of the hunters more experienced with the sweltering heat and deadly danger of the Sahara were taking shelter under what remained of the tent, searching for 'evidence' as an excuse not to be sunburnt in a matter of minutes. Lucky himself had procured a sand-logged 3DS charger sans 3DS. Very productive day.

Lucky could hardly see a thing here, between the endless reflection of light and the sand-filled wind whipping through the base with unfortunate regularity. If he was a betting man, he would have put his money on Dwight being dead since the first SOS signal went out. Not that he was going to tell Mark that. Whatever hope Mark wanted to have for someone lost in the Sahara was his business. And admittedly, Lucky didn't want to think too much about Dwight being dead either. Sure, Dwight seemed to hate him, and he was a little annoying about it sometimes, but not so annoying that he deserved to die in the Sahara...

Lucky was surprised to see Mimsy had shown up for the mission too, and waved her over to the shady spot he'd staked out. "Haven't found anything yet. Unless a charger cable counts."
