Location// Cargo Bay

Having only taken very little damage, Barty decided it would probably be best to head to the cargo bay while the others got patched up and helped fix the ship. There was sure to be something of use in the cargo bay. Besides, it seemed like there was still a fair amount of bodies to be prepared and moved. Although Bart had a liking for formality and more glorifying tasks, he recognized that every job needed to be done. Besides, he seemed to be in very good health and, like wise, was better suited to help move the heavy bodies. Of course, along the way he carefully searched the bodies and cargo for anything useful. Of course, only the enemies' bodies, searching his own comrades' bodies simple seemed unethical, even to a person like him. He also moved cautiously, making sure each person was actually dead before searching for supplies or moving them. It was definitely not a very lively job.

Location// Pulling self to Medbay

Leaving behind a trail of blood, she paused and stared at the speaker on the way to meday as the speaker beeped. She suppressed her whines as the Captain words delivered, calm and official. Whoever thought out that stupid plan to steal the ship, she would joyfully make a hole out of their head.

Naturally rolled her eyes at the speaker, she moved on along the corridor. She wasn't into killing things, not some phychos or blood enthusiatists, they only made a mess. However, it didn't mean she would do nothing when one threatened to make her companion into a meal, not to mention his way of describing the skinning and the dirty drools annoyed her.

The loss of patience for a few minutes was costly, when she realized she kicked on the thick-skinned alien. Its powerful hand grabbed her elbow and broke it, luckily, it was shot dead by a passer-by from her crew.

Now there was another human. What was with these creatures, seriously? He muttered something in his own hissing, growling language to the effect that there were far too many monkeys in such a small space. The actual word referred to a parasitic creature on his home world but monkey was a close enough analogy.

Trying his best to simultaneously ignore the humans and take up as much space as possible so maybe they'd get uncomfortable and just leave, Aksaja tried to bend a panel back into place by sheer strength. He didn't really have the leverage needed, though, and didn't seem to get very far. His tail lashed a bit in irritation.

"It shouldn't have been like this," the captain murmured from her seat as she clutched the ship's navigational unit. She peeled her fingers off, one by one in order to shakily punch in the button sequence to initiate the jump sequence. "This was supposed to -- oh thank the solar." An audible sigh of relief came from her as the familiar shimmer of light blue covered her field of vision outside the ship, visually indicating that the shields were active.

The engines hummed and the ship shook, however nothing happened. The captain swore and banged her hand against the control panel. "Damnation! We're just sitting ducks at this rate! We need to --"

A loud, invasive presence of something slipped into your mind, the words translated into your native tongue and circuitry. Someone was using telepathy to speak to you. It felt like something very large as leering over you, each thought-concept weighing down your present mind like someone dropping a handful of cold slime down the back of your shirt where it slid into uncomfortable places.

The voice continued with a burble of laughter.

It paused.

The voice paused, lingering uncomfortably in your mind like an unwanted smell in a crowded room.

The voice ends as a ship comes into view, facing the SS Arcadia II. Even to the untrained eye it appeared as though all weapons on the enemy ship were armed, ready, and primed to fire.

The captain sank into her chair, staring.

At last her hand reached out, a series of beeps and clicks crackled from the speakers. "This is your captain speaking," she began. "We have just received an ultimatum from an unknown party. I realize many of you are mercenaries, and that you are unfamiliar with the history between the Collective Syndicate of Stars and many other factions. It will also come as no surprise to you when I say that anyone related to the Syndicate is not to be trusted. However, as this party has not identified themselves, I will leave it up to you as individuals to make your decision. However," her voice took on a dark tone, "Don't think lightly of me, should you decide to trust a telepath and do me in. Come at me, if you dare."

ARE YOU GOING SOMEWHERE?

HOW CUTE OF YOU, TO THINK THAT YOU COULD STEAL ONE OF OUR SHIPS.

DID YOU REALLY THINK YOU COULD ESCAPE WITH THAT WHICH BELONGS TO US?

OH. MY. YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IT IS YOU'VE GOT, HAVE YOU?

VERY WELL. LET ME MAKE YOU A DEAL.

NO. THERE ARE TOO MANY OF YOU. LET US MAKE THIS INTERESTING.

IF ALL OF YOU AGREE TO HAND OVER YOUR CAPTAIN AS WELL AS THE STOLEN DATA, I WILL NOT KILL YOU. I WILL INSTEAD CALL A SLAVESHIP TO PICK YOU UP AND DETERMINE YOUR BEST USE AS A SLAVE.

IF NONE OF YOU DO THAT, THEN I WILL FIRE ON THE SHIP AND BLOW IT UP, KILLING ALL OF YOU.

IF SOME OF YOU DO AS I ASKED, THEN PERHAPS I WILL SPARE YOUR LIVES WHILE I KILL THE REST. OR PERHAPS I WILL NOT.

YOU HAVE LESS THAN TWENTY-FOUR HOURS TO DECIDE. MAKE PEACE WITH THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR ACTIONS, AS WELL AS THE ACTIONS OTHERS HAVE INFLICTED UPON YOU.

Want some background information on the setting? Reading this is optional.

In no particular order:

  • It is assumed that your character is a mercenary. You have been hired by an agent representing the Spheres' Union and were paid in full, in advanced.

  • The Collective Syndicate of Stars is akin to a mafia, however it is an actual government that spans several planetary systems. While there are many attractive casinos in the galaxy, it is generally well known that you don't gamble in their casinos unless you're particularly desperate.

  • Rumor has it that the Spheres' Union was looking in to muscling in on the Collective Syndicate of Stars' territory, or find a way to hack their machines in order to bleed them out from the inside.

  • Rumor also has it that the Collective Syndicate of Stars has, in their possession, an alien price who will make anyone who rescues them royalty. This rumor is also as popular as the one where a presumably different alien prince needs you to give them some money in order to do something or other, but they'll pay the money back double!

  • During the get away, the SS Arcadia I was surprised by another ship, got into combat, and was destroyed as a result. You only escaped because you were part of the boarding party. Attacking this ship was not planned, and it is very likely that the ship everyone is on is unrelated to the initial mission.

  • While there are some planets and systems that use slaves, your character is also aware that there are cultures that specifically use slaves as either blood sacrifices, pet pooper scoopers, living furniture, or even as fuel for fires. Slaves are usually denoted by a mandatory collar around their neck that explodes if anyone has attempted to remove them. There's also been a long-standing competition among hackers to try and hack the slave collars with the current jackpot at 3.54 million credits, however no one has been able to successfully hack the collar and, as a result, various anti-slavery movements have been running fund raisers to increase the jackpot.

  • Got any additional questions? Please ask -- I've done far too much worldbuilding for this one-off RP setting, and have done my best to cut down on descriptions/histories so it's not too much information for y'all to read. |D

We good.
The computer screen flickered, then brought up a list of statistics. While the text was still in an alien language, Kyle could figure out the gist of things. It looked like it was a status of the ship.

Something was going on in the Life Support systems, as the power in the room was declining at a steady rate.
The Shields were completely offline.
The Weapons systems were nearly online. Perhaps if they were brought back on, they could be used to launch a surprise attack...
The Engines were at a halfway point. Unfortunately, they needed about a quarter of a bar more before they could get away before anything bad happened...

At this point in time, please limit yourself to TWO ACTIONS BELOW.

If you’d like to explore a specific action that you think may have significance, feel free to post the action in bold red. If it does have significance, it will be addressed!

While many of this text has been repeated, some of the dice values have changed! Please be sure to read carefully!

When repairing systems, please use the value in the last PLAYER'S post, not my GM post! My numbers were taken at time of writing, and are likely now inaccurate. As updating the number may change the narrative and make me redo several hour's worth of work, please understand my decision to not update and edit. Thank you.

ACT II :: AN OFFER YOU CAN'T R͠EF̢Ừ̷S̸̸͞E̶

The Bridge
This is where many aspects of the ship are controlled.

The captain is here, looking furious. She is pacing back and forth, muttering expletives under her breath while resting one hand on the blaster at her hip. Anyone can talk to her, if they so choose.

The communications unit is nearby.

An important-looking computer is here, however the screen is showing various icons (please see the quote for baby_gwing in the previous post).

Actions

Choice #1: Mutiny.
Taking this route will mean you are attempting to trade the captain for your life. Or perhaps the life of the crew -- you'll need to specify. To do this, you'll need at least two people.

1) Subdue the captain. You'll need to roll 2d20. If your total is 24 or higher, you have overpowered her and can proceed to the second step.
-- Note that should a crew member disagree and wants to come to the captain's aid, please roll 3d20. If your roll is 24 or higher then you have fought off the mutineers, and those seeking mutiny will need to find another person to attempt to overthrow the captain.
2) Hail the other ship. It is assumed that those who rolled or attempted to roll are dog-pilling the captain in order to subdue her. You can attempt to contact the other ship by rolling 3d10. If your roll is 20 or higher, please quote Marushii.

Remember, you only get TWO actions for this round of GM posting. If you fail to subdue the captain, you cannot try again.

Choice #2: FIRE ZE MISSILES.
Taking this route means you will take hostile action against the unknown ship. As in, you're going to pre-preemptively strike. To do this, you'll need the weapons system at a minimum of 75%. You may also want to get the shields back online (minimum 25%) or the engine (minimum 75%), just in case things go south...

1) You'll need to get the weapons system up to a usable amount.

2) When ready, someone will need to roll 3d100. And hope for the best. (You are aware that the other ship will likely counter-attack, right...?)

Choice #3: Screw this, I'm out.
Taking this route means you're going to high-tail it outta there. To do this, you'll need to get the engines in working order -- at least 75/100. The more you have, the less time it'll take for the engines to warm up and go. Unfortunately, alien technology hasn't improved enough to create an instant warp button quite yet...

1) You'll need to repair the engines system up to a usable amount. You might also want to try and convince Lucky to stop damaging the system while you're at it.

2) Once it's in usable condition, have who hasn't taken an action yet post this:

ALL SYSTEMS GO! Let's get out of here!
The Medbay
The medbay is shorthand for "the place to go to when you dun screwed up." Like all Syndicate ships, it is equipped with state-of-the-art doodads that do all sorts of cool things. Unfortunately, you don't recognize any of the technology used here and are unfamiliar with it. Healing is going to be trial-and-error.
In the interest of seeing what terrible decisions people will make, if you need to heal roll 2d8. Subtract this amount from the initial 1d20 roll you made earlier. That is your new status.

Example: Let's say I got a 12 with my initial 1d20. I come into the medbay and roll a 3. 12-3 = 9, bringing me from this:

11-15: You’ve sustained an injury! It hurts, but you’ll live. You have many scratches and are bleeding enough to where if left untreated for a long period of time, you'll likely faint from blood loss. It is optional whether you’d like to go to the medbay or not, however it is unwise to go without it for too long...

To this:

6-10: You currently have a lot of blood on you. Thankfully most of it doesn’t belong to you. You have some injuries that hurt, however most of them are scratches and bruises. You do not need to go to the medbay.

:star: You can help people out and add your roll to their roll! Please quote the person you are assisting.
The Cargo Bay
This is where the captain jettisons many things. Aside from the dead bodies littering the area, there are also many containers, presumably cargo. Unfortunately the alien script is unfamiliar, so there's no telling what is inside.
You can attempt to search the cargo for anything interesting.

The Engine Room

The engines are also currently smoking. It is a light smoke, not too hazy. The engines are vitally important, as without working engines you and everyone else on board are sitting ducks.

It appears that Lucky is here and is damaging the systems. If you want to repair them, it might be wise to convince this particular individual to stop...
NOTE THAT LUCKY IS A PLAYER-CHARACTER!

The Shield Generator
The shield generator was heavily damaged by your ship in order to board and invade this one. While it doesn't look as bad as it did when it first began, there is a dangerous-looking waterfall of sparks currently coming out of one of the systems.

It also appears that someone reprogrammed the power to be redirected elsewhere in the ship.
You can attempt to repair the generator.

The shield system's HP is currently at 0/100.

Alternatively, you can attempt to correct the system's energy flow. Press random buttons by rolling 1d10. Add the amount to the shield HP.
If you roll a 10, please add 20 to the shield HP instead.
The Weapons System
Thanks to the work of some of the crew, the weapons system appears to be in much better shape than before. You have to remind yourself that these are the very same weapons that took out the SS Arcadia and everyone on it. While poking some numbers, it comes to the crew within the weapon room that there are internal weapons as well. Thankfully, repairs on this system did not activate them.

"I got it!" Zelfos crowed as he rerouted the power to stop the sparks cloest to the pair. The room went dark. With a loud clang, the rockman tumbled to the floor in surprise.

"What the hell Zelfos!? What did you do you...you...stupid rockheaded moron!" Ern shouted letting go of the wires to try to find the panel again.

"I routed the sparks to save you," grunted Zelfos finding his footing in time to once again be kicked aside by Ern.

"Well UNSAVE me!" shouted the boy as he began to frantically finger the buttons. A rocky hand swatted his aside as he tried to undo his rerouting. With a low groan, Ern sank to a sitting position holding his throbbing head in his burned hands. He ached and not in a good way. As Zelfos worked in silence, a voice boomed throughout the ship.

"Sell out the captain and become slaves or die? What choice is that?" spat Zelfos. A weak laugh escaped Ern.

"A dumb one. I'm hurt bad so forget that. Just keep undoing your button pushing Zelfos," the human ordered, "I don't want to be separated from you...so...at least we will just have to worry if anyone decides to sell out if we can get these damned shields up and running." Zelfos smiled, knowing his partner could not see it and kept working as fast as his stubby rock hands would allow.

October politely allowed Sin to drag him to his feet without much protest, especially since Sin pulling him upright meant less work for October in the long run.

Priorities. He gestured haphazardly to the fraying, beeping weapons system.

"It's still not up to full capacity," said October morosely. "It needs a lot of work. The nucleonic system domain is higher than usual and the auxiliary dampening conduit is fried, but I figure if we can attempt to reroute power from the reciprocating nadion configuaration and add it to the magnatomic superficial continuum, then we might able to restore the strength of the modulated tetryon discriminator."

October gave a heavy sigh. "Or maybe we just need to turn on the quantum neutrino capacitor, I don't know."

He turned to face the others in the room, but something was sizzling through his mind, thick and unpleasant. October wobbled where he stood, frowning at the intrusion inside of his head, a gloved hand rising to press against his temple in the hopes of alleviating the sound.

"Oh," he said. "Well. That was unpleasant."

For a few seconds, he just stood there, frowning; but then he moved, for once at a normal speed for a human being, October sliding over to the nearest console of buttons and wires.

"Well, then," he mumbled, and began to try and fix some of the weapons system's wires.

Great. She put her hands on her waist, thinking about how brilliant the idea to rob an alien ship was. The room she was at was spacious, with unknown equipments and devices, silently glowed. She frowned as she had no knowledge on manipulating alien stuff, she stared at what seemed to resemble a surgery bed, the devices next to it were working.

After a while of struggling, she braved to give it a try. The ring travelled along her body and emitted soft lights which suggested a scan. When it was completed, it stopped and a diagram popped up on the screen, indicated her injuries. Since she couldn't read alien language, she didn't understand what the diagnose was. Anyway, the machine sent out a cold laser that showered her body and the pain was alleviated.

... though that foreboding telepathic message and the warning that the Captain just issued to everyone on board meant that they had something else more important to worry and do something about soon. If the Collective Syndicate of Stars wanted whatever they had with them, they'll have to get it over their dead bodies. No way he was going to sell out the Captain at this point and embrace a life of slavery.

Kyle fumed quietly, trying to calm himself some so that he could focus on figuring out the information that was shown on the computer screen now.

"Well well, look at what we have here."

Semaj intoned as he rejoined him on his shoulder.

"Looks like something's up with the Life Support systems. We'll need to get the Shields, Weapons and Engines up and running first before whoever that was decided on their course of action."

He reached for the communications unit, intent on warning everyone of the imminent threat to them should the Life Support system go down eventually.

"Um... guys? It looks like there's something wonky with our Life Support systems from here. Could someone go check on it before we all get done in without those bastards lifting a finger?"

With the warning issued and out of the way, he saluted the Captain and started making his way to the Shield Generator room.

================

The Shield Generator room. Kyle had been wondering what exactly was up with the Shields. He could have sworn that he saw them coming on back on the Bridge, only to run into some sort of system failure which resulted in them going offline again.

The shield generator room was dark. Well, no surprise there on that one but it appeared that there was someone in there given the exchange of words that was going on between both Ern and Zelfos. Kyle quickly crossed over to where he could make out Ern was.

"Hey. Are you alright? Do you need help getting to the Medbay?"

Hopping off his shoulder, Semaj decided to get to work, heading to the nearest panel to study the situation and begin rectifying it while he gave his companion an update of the shield's status.

"Looks like the power got re-routed just as the shields started to come back online. I'll see if I can do something about it."

The captain's voice came up on the intercome. Tria nodded absentmindedly as she continued. If only she understood English.

A series of clicks and beeps crackled from the speakers before a new announcement sounded:

"Um... guys? It looks like there's something wonky with our Life Support systems from here. Could someone go check on it before we all get done in without those bastards lifting a finger?"

It didn't seem that there was anything wrong. Organics that needed oxygen currently weren't experiencing any difficulty breathing, but it someone made an announcement...

...or it could be another trick.

The wires crackled, but no dangerous sparks came out.

She probably stood there for what seemed like hours to anyone else who might have seen her there and her head tilted at her Captain's orders, staring at the intercom. The sonic multitool had 100% no effect on the engines... but it was clear that there was something more imperative about acting now. Shrugging, she wandered along her way to the shield generators, noticing the others in there. "Hello, hello!" Her antenna waved at the two nearby and she looked back at her too, not even sure if it would work again. She shrugged and pointed the gun over at them and used the sonic multitool on the shield generators. This time she was pretty sure she should just move on though, but she couldn't help noticing the sparks.

"Are you two okay?" She said with the same dumb grin on her face. "...Or, three?" Her head swiveled to facing the other way and she blinked again. The gravity of the situation was lost on her, her face rarely changed and her stress, well... she did once eat the entire galley and decolorize the Captain's wardrobe. When it dawned on her it was likely to happen again, but she shrugged. "Maybe not, I'll try somewhere else. Good luck don't die~!" She waved with her noodle arm before turning and walking back to the halls.

When October replied coherently with clear knowledge of the weapon's mechanics, Sin found himself impressed, despite the circumstances. "I'm pretty sure I didn't understand a word of that, but I think I get the general gist of the problem." It was really hard to tell whether SIn was being completely serious or joking.. as his face was perpetually cheerful.

When a new member entered the room, he easily returned his wave with one of his own. Aksaja, October, Lure.. the weapons system was certainly becoming a party. Wouldn't it be vaguely nice if they all became friends? Or probably a little bit more than a stranger who Sin hoped wouldn't toss off the ship at first opportunity? Sin was about to make some friendly offerings to that effect- when a searing pain entered his head along with an uninvited voice. Jesus Christ, could you not..?! His pained grimace and slight staggering mirrored October's discomfort, making him realize that they were all hearing the same voice. Having one AI was enough, much less an alien sharing the same space. Did these guys not have a concept of personal privacy? Nor did they give them much of a choice.. Really, if he was going to be a slave or dead either way- then the ship was probably their best choice.

All the more reason the weapons system should be online. Or that's what he would have thought, had another startling announcement not been made. "Um... guys? It looks like there's something wonky with our Life Support systems from here. Could someone go check on it before we all get done in without those bastards lifting a finger?"

"You know what..? I think you guys have got it handled here. Probably." He directed to Lure, Aksaja, and October. The last part just slipped out, wisely or unwisely. "I'm gonna.. see about something really quick. Like not dying without oxygen maybe..?? " With that, Sin took off quickly for the area with the life support.

When he arrived, he saw only a single person. But that was enough. He reached for Tria's arm, attempting to stop her from further damaging the life support system. It was clear that he rushed, from his attempts to catch his breath and startling abruptness. "Whoa, whoa, whoa little missy! Can we talk.. probably before continuing?" To soften his words, he gave her a friendly smile.

She sniffed the hideous food she was making but stopped as a voice boomed in her head. Her pupils thinned and her ears twitched as she listened to the voice. Before the voice had even finished speaking inside her head, she was already fuming with rage. “Who do you think you are coming here and threatening me! That’s it,” she shouted, seeming completely insane as she stormed out of the Dining Area, which she left in a state of complete disarray.

Bing-Bing burst into the Weapons Systems with fire in her eyes. “I’ll show them,” she growled as she assessed the Weapons Systems. She worked frantically to fix everything she could. She tried to act like an expert, but she really had no idea what she was doing. “Get in there,” she roared as she attempted to fit parts together that were not even the same shape. Her eye twitched and she ended up using an excessive amount of space grade duct tape. And somehow, she didn't make things worse.

“There! Now that’s looking much better!”
