She nodded before heading in the direction he'd pointed her in, taking a minute to figure out the dryer before popping her things inside. She watched it for a moment, wondering briefly if there was anyone that she should check in with to let them know that she was alright. Parents? No. Not a chance. Her mother probably assumed she was always with Priscilla now anyways and her father? Pff. Prissy? No. If Prissy wanted to check in with her she would. General? Gone. No reason to check in when no one would answer... James? She groaned at herself, turning to wheel away from the dryer so that she could head back to the kitchen, leaning against one of the counters. There was no reason at all to reach out to Wonderboy. He could look out for himself well enough that he didn't need to trust her with anything important. Why would she need to check in on him? She could take care of herself... "Need any help, Professor?"

"No I'm quite alright." He shook his head. While she'd been putting things in the dryer he'd clipped his hair up out of his face and so it didn't get into anything he was cooking. "Do you have a preference on dressing for your salad? I have a few vinaigrette, blue cheese, and I believe some french." He looked back over to her, wondering idly what the slight pinched expression she was trying to hide was for.

"Mind if I poke around in your fridge to check out the variety of vinaigrette?" Her brow quirked as she watched him for a moment before making her way over to the fridge before giving him a chance to tell her that he'd rather she didn't. Who had things in their fridge that they didn't mind others seeing anyways? Once the door was open she leaned on it before peering over the condiments inside, peering up after a moment to glance at him once more. "There's not a Mrs Professor who's going to be concerned that you're bringing strays home, is there? Or is it a Mr Professor?" Had she prodded at that the first time they'd met? She couldn't recall, knowing it was a detail she would have paid more attention to had her head been in a better place that day.

"No there isn't one of either." He shook his head as he separated the salad into two bowls and retrieved two forks. "If you'll bring me the raspberry one please?" It would go with what he'd tossed together well enough and it was his favorite. "If there were a Mr or Mrs I would hope they'd be the sort to understand that leaving someone stranded in an ice storm is far from how a decent person should act." He set one of the bowls in front of one of the chairs at the bar, leaving one by his hip as he leaned on the counter.

She approved of his taste in dressing, snagging the bottle of raspberry vinaigrette before shutting the refrigerator door and setting it lightly on the counter next to him only to lean against it once more herself. "One would often hope those things, but realistically it isn't always the case. People like to jump to conclusions. They get jealous. Maybe it reminds them that they're alive." Jealousy wasn't an emotion she cared for. It was why she didn't bother getting attached, generally, and now that she had nothing made sense except for being irritable and dangerous. "Have you had a chance to look into Romano's yet?"

"Why would I want to be with someone who did not trust that I would remain faithful to them? If someone jumping to those sorts of conclusions just seeing someone else in their home I think it is they that have the problem." He took the dressing and put some on his salad before shuffling it around so he could take a bite. He was glad he'd picked up fresh greens since they were nice and crisp. "I was doing some research on it." he nodded. "But I haven't had time to go there myself yet."

She let the talk of relationships fall by the wayside for the moment, moving around to pull herself up onto the stool the second bowl of salad was waiting by. She added a bit of dressing to her salad, nudging it around with her fork before taking a bite. "Turn up anything in your research that makes it seem like it wouldn't be worth your while to make time to stop in and chat with someone?"

"A bit here and there." He nodded. "I just have no had the opportunity to make my way there with classes coming to an end and the holiday mess." He did intend to make his way there though as soon as he was able. From what he'd looked into the school seemed like a decent one and it would be a nice change from the University.

"Good. Maybe if you drop my name they'll give you the special tour," She teased, eyes gleaming as she glanced up to him. Then, just as that look was there it was gone as she shifted on her stool. "Not my alma mater, but I am at least familiar with a number of the staff-- Ex boyfriend teaches there. Teacher dinners and company parties..." At the very least she wasn't bluffing about her ex working there. Staff parties happened too, right? It was better than admitting how she knew staff members otherwise...

"I was going to ask how you had enough pull in the school for others to recognize your name." He laughed softly before taking a bite of his salad. Though if it was her ex then there was a possibility that dropping her name wouldn't' get him very far depending on how much sway said ex had. He'd seen enough people at the university lose standing because they decided to date the wrong person.

"English teacher. Amateur writer-- Bottom wrung, not all that impressive, but having a job is better than not having one." The job hadn't even mattered to her, honestly, but it had mattered to him. Resorting to a life of crime to pay for his rent hadn't been high on the list of things that she could see James wanting to do. He was just too good. And you're rotten to the core and a liar to boot. She closed her eyes for a moment to keep them from narrowing at the internal nagging from the voice that liked to kick her while she was down. "I could have applied for a secretary position, I'm sure, but I didn't want to have to change my hair... I also like making way more things than just basic coffee in a pot."

"You sound a bit bitter so I take it the break up was recent." He didn't sound like he was pressing for information, more so just stating an apparent fact. "You don't have to mention him if it is still bothering you. Plenty of other things we could speak about." It was a little weird she seemed fixated on whether he'd been by the school or not but he didn't feel like reading too far into it.

"He was keeping things from me." Important things. Matters of life or death, all because he thought that he was protecting her instead. It certainly didn't feel that way. It felt like being weighed down-- Suffocated. "Sorry," she murmured as she set her fork down, voice dropping lower than she'd intended it to. "Every time I think I'm over being bothered by it something reminds me that I'm not. It's so stupid." She shook her head, glancing up to him. "Mind if I get myself something to drink?"

"Unfortunately it is never as easy as one would hope to turn off emotions." He'd wished his had a switch for a long time and even now there were times he wished it was like that. "I would suspect you'll be over it eventually once you've had time to process everything." He nodded at her question, motioning for the fridge again. The only thing he had in there he might not be willing to share was the bottle of wine and he didn't think she'd go straight for that.

She opted to avoid the rest of the conversation about emotions and time to process things, knowing it was more likely to press on buttons than anything else. Instead she peered through the refrigerator again before snagging a bottle of water, glancing back over her shoulder to her host. "Anything for you while I'm up? You've got quite the assortment of things in here... All of this just for you?" She teased, trying to get that little bit of her playful composure back.
