Brian took her cue and lifted the nearest action movie out of the bag. Her choices did look a bit dated, but that only made them more interesting. It was another little quirk of Misha that he had yet to learn.
"Oh, I've seen Men in Tights," he said. His sisters had found it after seeing a screenshot or something. Christine had a thing for blondes, and had been terribly disappointed when she found out that Cary Elwes had been the same guy in Saw.
"I dunno, I'm up for anything. What do you feel like? I haven't seen any of those." He motioned toward the rom-coms. "but I've seen that one, and this one." This time he motioned to the action films, including the one he'd had in his hands.

She looked at the DVD in his hand - Red - and tipped her head to one side in clear consideration. Obviously, owning the DVDs herself generally meant she had seen them already. It was just a matter of how many times she had seen them and how recently. Shifting slightly, she pressed her shoulder to his in a gesture of gentle affection. "How about we start with something we've both seen while we wait for the pizza?" she suggested. "Then we won't miss anything when it gets here." She reached out and took Red from his hands. Then she twisted to brush a kiss over his cheek, so fleeting that he barely had time to register it before she was standing with the disc in her hands. "We can move on to some of the others afterwards."

Brian was only slightly surprised by the little cheek-kiss. His body told him to return the gesture, but Misha was already up and trying to figure out his DVD player. He rose to join her and pressed his finger into the player's plastic casing beside a slot.
"Just push it in there." He paused, considering that they might try to mash something in with a CD already in there and pressed "eject." The machine whirred, but nothing came out. "Yeah, we're good." With that, he went to go pop the popcorn he'd bought and pour the kettle corn into a large bowl.

"Technology," Misha laughed. "Can you imagine when people had to leave the house every time they wanted to see a movie?" She focused on getting the DVD started then and fell silent, not really expecting an answer. The smell and sound of popcorn drifted to her and she smiled to herself. Brian was terribly sweet. She was glad she had come through the Hearth to him for this visit. Even if she had nearly half-invited herself. She could not possibly feel guilty about it. Not after the smiles he granted her and the slight loosening in his stance the longer she was there. If she were honest with herself, Misha had been worried about his visit home. She blamed it on his own clear unease and nerves. Misha shook her head a bit to dismiss the thoughts. Then she found the remote, set the DVD on the title menu, and retreated to the couch. When Brian returned, he would find her, shoes off and legs tucked beneath her, curled up on his couch and looking quite at home.

Brian just chuckled appreciatively on his way to grab the popcorn, and came back with two bowls to set on the coffee table. He was already without shoes, but had put on socks in case Misha was especially disgusted by feet. He crawled up beside her and immediately wanted to wrap his arms around her and pull her close, but that might be too quick. Besides, they were waiting for pizza and were bound to be interrupted.
At least he leaned over and kissed her cheek.
"Thanks for this."

Her smile lit up impossibly bright at the kiss and she twisted more to face him. She reached out with her free hand and took his, tangling their fingers together. "You're welcome. Always." She gave his hand a squeeze as her grey eyes searched his face. "Anytime at all, here I am! You poor man."

"Mm, nah. That's the way I like it," he teased. Of course he let their fingers tangle and leaned back against the couch as the movie began.
It was, in fact, just about twenty minutes when someone knocked at the door. Brian excused himself and hopped up to answer, taking his wallet with him. With his payment and a tip, the pizza guy left happy and Brian locked the door behind him while balancing the pizzas on one arm. Then it was off to the kitchen to grab some plates, stack them atop the boxes, and bring them back out to Misha and the coffee table.
"Alright. Dinner's here." When was the last time he had ordered pizza in with a friend? Hm!

"Yum!" Misha slid to the edge of the couch and accepted a plate. As she waited for Brian to open the boxes, she added, "Thank you so much for this. It smells amazing." Once the pizzas were fully exposed, she breathed a happy little sigh and immediately reached for a slice to put on her plate. The smell was even better now! "I can't remember the last time I had delivery. Pizza or any kind," she mused as she sat back, eerily echoing Brian's thoughts. "For some reason, Prytaneum is outside of all delivery zones. Go figure, huh?" She shot him a grin before lifting her slice and taking her first bite. "Mmmmmm."

"Sure, except we can get our mail there for some reason," he replied. He waited for Misha to finish picking her slices and then went in for his own. "Really? Are you picky? This is Texas, so I wouldn't expect magic."
She had known that coming in, though. Texas was more a place for apple pie than it was for pizza pie.

Rolling her eyes as she was caught with a mouthful, Misha chewed quickly and swallowed. She had manners, after all. Only then did she stick out her tongue at him. "It's good, goose," she insisted. "I wasn't complaining. This tastes delicious." As if to prove her point, she took another hungry bite.

"You a little hungry?"
He took his first bite and turned his attention back to the television. Were Misha anyone else, he might have been more cautious to be especially clean and tidy while eating. Ordering pizza for a first date was sort of like ordering spaghetti, not that this was a date. Still, one wanted to make a good impression, but Misha was Misha and thus much less intimidating.
"Is there anything special you want to do tomorrow? I know we can't go back out for a week after this." He looked over to her. There was just as much to do in Houston as anywhere else, maybe more, but he'd still like to plan and make the most of their time in this season.

Misha laughed, completely unbothered by his teasing. Her manners were still good and there but she was simply too hungry and too comfortable with Brian to pretend she didn't have a healthy appetite. Besides that, she never was the sort of girl who went on a date and only ordered salad; Misha believed in always showing your authentic self to a potential partner. Of course, it always helped when your authentic self had confidence through the roof and a firm belief in your own charms. She considered his question about plans, though, with more seriousness. "Not really," she finally admitted. "I've never been anywhere in Texas so I'll just put myself completely in your hands. I trust you."

Brian nodded. "I'll try. We can Google around or something before we go. It's a big city." It was a big city, and it was one he had lived in for most of his life. It was hard to see things from a tourist's perspective. Maybe she'd want to go shopping? He knew some good food places for sure, so at least there was that. He'd have to check if there were any events happening tomorrow. He was sorely out of the loop since the Prytaneum.
"Do you ever go on vacation? See family and stuff?"

"Mmhm. When I was little, we would spend at least one week every summer out in Arizona visiting my aunt and her family. Plus there were visits to both sets of grandparents." Misha looked a bit thoughtful for a moment, nibbling at her pizza again. "Unless you're talking about recently? Then, no, not so much... Though I really should. I'll be going home for Christmas, of course. If I didn't, my mom would come out to Michigan, find Prytaneum, and drag me home by my hair." Even as she laughed at her own words, Misha's eyes dropped to her plate and she picked at a piece of sausage. She was only half-joking. Her parents were not overly pleased with her choice to move rather abruptly away from Philadelphia. Her mother asked probing, leading questions every time she called home. From what her dad said, it sounded like her mom was developing quite an interesting theory about her decision and it did not revolve around a job offer. Misha grimaced slightly and popped the bit of sausage into her mouth. She shrugged off the moment then and smiled sweetly at Brian. "How about you? Did you go over Christmas plans with your family since you've been back?" What she wanted to ask was "how did your parents take things about your job?" but she didn't want to press. Not while they were eating. Not unless he wanted to open up and share already.

Brian listened with pleased interest, but his smile faded when he saw Misha grimace. Uh-oh. He'd asked the wrong question somehow. He'd thought that family would be safe! His brow furrowed a moment, and only had the time to regulate halfway when Misha looked over again. The poor guy ended up looking absolutely pitiful, furrowed and smiling. He knew better than to think it'd get past her either.
"Well, sort of," he said with a shrug. His face began to settle back in, feeling less stretched at the corners to him. "I mean, I said I'd be coming down, and Ma said 'good.' It wasn't really the focus of the last visit. I'm pretty sure they think I'm on drugs or having a midlife crisis or something. Dad had his 'concerned' face on, which admittedly doesn't look much different than his 'pissed' face, or anything else for that matter." He turned back to his pizza. Misha had gotten what she'd wanted without even asking for it, but Brian was none the wiser. He had been hoping to put off the drama for longer.
