Oh, good. So they did get to know.

Brian founds that the tracks outside looked a whole lot like the tracks inside. It could be the animals that had come in after the Chosen had picked up and left... or it could be the Chosen themselves. After all, missing persons unfound could actually be squirrels, right? In this new world of theirs it definitely could.

Brian really would prefer to not be changed into an animal.

He came back inside and let a little sigh go. Well then. He'd made his own conclusions. It was time to wait and see what the other groups brought back. Hopefully, they would both be back. he felt bad now having not gone with the wilderness group, but only knowing what he knew now. Hopefully they weren't beating up animals that approached, recognizing them as fellow Chosen.

Would they find out who was in charge of this whole mess too? had they ever really found who was in charge of the last mess? Just as a last-ditch effort, he rolled over a couple of bed rolls. Had the Chosen been asleep or awake when the s**t hit the fan, he wondered?

There was a moment in which Asher held the strange Aphrodite badge in his hand and frowned, just slightly, eyes twitching up to see who was watching him. It probably said something about his character that, in this time, he seriously considered sliding the mark of some poor sap's God into his pocket and keeping it. Not even to see if it'd double his protection, just out of some strange compulsion --

With a sigh, he pinned it back to the shirt, instead.

Beth sighed, frown wrinkling her pretty features. She rubbed at the crown of her head, not wanting to muddle her foundation any more than it already was. She must have sweat all of her makeup off in the time they'd spent in the swamp. (Bayou? Swamp? Was there a functional difference? Beth didn't know. Just like she didn't know anything about distinguishing tracks. Her usefulness ended with the air conditioning.)

But if they were going to run with the idea that their fellows had been transformed into animals, the slowly transitioning tracks might be another piece of evidence.

If they were wrong, they were going to feel very silly indeed.

Beth turned to watch the rest of the group. Those she didn't know (plus Asher and Misha) were gathered around another group of backpacks, near the bathroom. Brian returned from checking outside and started examining the bedrolls. She wondered what she could possibly check that would yield new information.

She processed some of Griffin's words--which she had only been half listening to--and asked, "What, exactly, constitutes unusual magical activity? Magic in the first place? A weird...magical signature?" She frowned more. Other than the fact that it existed, she hadn't gotten a good idea of what it was, what it could do, and the rules governing its use. Maybe if they knew what was unusual about it, they could start figuring out the how of what had befallen their Chosen comrades.

She ran a hand over the surface thoughtfully, feeling for any textural differences. "You said missing persons reports," she suddenly said, though her gaze stayed on the door. "Were those reports just for our crew or were there others reported missing? People from that town Brynn went towards? Or from any kind of homesteads or something around here? How far back to those reports kind of lump up?"

There was no change in the texture of the door. It was just a door, made of mediocre wood. It was middle of the road, not too expensive but not the cheapest one, either. "People from town and vacationers disappearing, both. We came out as soon as we heard about ours going missing, of course."

There was a bag near her, so she picked it up carefully, opening it up to see what was inside. While she was looking through it for anything important, a question came to her "Did any of the chosen bring weapons? I don't see any around here if they did." It would make sense to bring weapons regardless, given what they were, but then again...BB Cream and mascara...

No BB cream in this one, and no bandages, but there were fishing lures, and a near-full roll of thin, translucent fishing line. "Some weapons are smaller, but I saw one or two outside." And there were weapons under some of the clothing, though not a lot.

Brian was the one who found another weapon; a single-headed ax, hidden by the fallen rolls and the torn up clothing and everything else.

"Unusual magic. Magic that is not supposed to be active, or magic that can be harmful." He shook his head a little bit, and uncrossed his arms from over his chest to check his watch.

He clapped to gather the attention of the gathered Chosen. "Alright. Gather what unspoiled rations you can. The others are going to be on their way back, and we'll all be hungry soon, if we aren't already." He bent down to gather some of the unspoiled rations himself.

Beth made a face. While it hadn't been the answer she was looking for, she knew that they had other things to worry about. She grabbed the first aid kit from the first pack Brian had opened as well as anything that seemed both edible and sealed. She hoped that the other groups had found something more helpful.

Wrinkling her nose at the rather unhelpful batch of final answers, Misha stepped back from the door and stretched her arms above her head, fingers locked together to better shake out her shoulders. By the time she dropped them again and turned back to face the center of the room, her faint smile had returned.

"Dinner on the bayou," she chuckled. "Anyone got a good recipe for scavenger gumbo?" With that quip, she bent to begin gathering any rations or consumables she could find. She could only hope they found enough. More than that, though, she hoped the other two groups had better news to combine over food.

She tried not to think about the option of spending the night in this eerie place. If they had to... Well, she was going to plant herself directly beside Brian and keep Beth close on her other side.

Going into town probably would have been less...aromatic, that was for sure. Edward's grimace lingered, even after Misha had drawn him back a few steps away from the pile, though he did offer her a flicker of a grateful smile. She might hide her true feelings behind masks, but she was still a sweet thing, and found her company very soothing.

In fact, somehow he'd found himself surrounded by the three chosen he actually rather liked, so despite the smell, the less than ideal circumstances, it could have been a lot worst.

He glanced down as Asher made a comment, noted the badge, the brief flicker of hesitation before replacing it, but found himself distracted by a soft brush of fingers on his wrist. Misha again. It earned her a raised brow and a curious look, but he didn't say anything, instead laying a light touch on her hip in answer. If she needed a grounding stone, he didn't mind playing the role.

It didn't seem as if they'd gotten a whole lot of answers in the inn, more questions, but Ed certainly wasn't going to argue with the order to gather up what they could and move out into the open. It might have been muggy as hell outside, but at least it was slightly less gross smelling. Only slightly.

Caleb was growing uncomfortable, to say the least, and not just because of the reeking piss smell resonating from that backpack. Not only were there missing Chosens, but they were more advanced and trained Chosens than rest of them as still new recruits. Caleb was less fearful about that first - he had enough ego to feel confident that his military training and experience would prepare him for most of what was coming - but the situation was growing more dire. Werewolves? Or whatever transformation was rumored to be happening? The talks gave him the chills. How was he supposed to defend himself against that? It seemed like not even the higher trained Chosens were able to defend themselves - their weapons and even bits of clothing apparently left behind after being exposed to whatever fate became of them. Would he be next?

He did the best to keep up a brave face - which was simple, since his face was generally in a consistent resting angry face. But it was all striking a nerve. He was still a bit of a loner, unfamiliar with the other faces in the crowd. If something were to happen to him...would anyone notice? Sure, a supervisor may notice his absence, but would they notice in time? Perhaps Mercy would notice, the only one who he had really made any real conversation with. He thought perhaps he needed to branch out, actually get to know these recruits and...ugh, be nice some of them. Perhaps he could start with the other Ares recruits - strength in numbers. He rolled his eyes at that thought, but swallowed his pride knowing what he must do in order to stay safe.

As the others started to pack up, Caleb looked through the area for any unspoiled food or rations but came up empty-handed, not entirely trusting whether the food was spoiled or not. Who knows how long the camp had been abandoned for exactly? He hurried after the rest of the group as they were pouring out, wishing to stay close and on high alert. He was aloof before, but he was transitioning to mission-mode now as he walked defensively with the rest of the group, hand inches from his weapon ready for anything.
