Alois waved to his brother without looking up from his perch. Rabbit’s words struck him off-kilter; never before had Rabbit demonstrated any self-sacrificing behavior, needless optimism or impetus toward the banality of cheering someone up. Coming forth with such rebukes to his beliefs was unwarranted in Alois’ eyes - especially since Rabbit himself gained nothing from it. So why say it at all? Why insist that Alois misguided himself by saying there was nothing left for him in Ashdown? What could there possibly be without his dog and his home? His job? That sounded a petty technicality, and hardly Rabbit’s playstyle. Was he trying to say that they’d become friends after all of this?
This wasn’t the time to consider such things. They left, the lot of them left, and he heard Rabbit sidle his way through the glass awkwardly. Only Tits and he remained in the sapphire study now. Their council would come for their tithes soon.
Alois finally drew knees to chest, as the room was largely vacant. His bony knees proved a tolerable headrest as he curled into a fetal position. Thin arms snaked around shins to chase away the outside world. He felt warmer this way, as the night air filtere in to chase away his body heat. If nothing else, he missed his father for that.
He missed Schatzie for it, too.

And then there were 2.
With the mass exodus that just took place, Juniper was expecting Alois to follow the other tithes, but instead he remained perched within the cushioned embrace of his chair. She sat there in silence, turning her body ever so slightly to face him in case he wanted to begin conversation, but nothing came.
With the rest of the tithes having left, Juniper had no doubt that even if Alois stayed, that things may not turn out well for him. From what she saw, the patrons would do just about anything to discipline their tithes. They'd probably blame the man for not sping the others or something along that line.
With the uncomfortable quiet growing, Juniper grew a bit antsy. Eventually she could not stand it any longer and broke the reverie.
"Are you intending to stay here and await Fate to come to you? " She questioned, as she leaned ogains the arm of her chair. "Maybe perhaps taking the initiative would be better at this point. I don't think there's any hope that things won't be tough for you now that everyone else left. Don't you think it might be best to take the bit of freedom waiting theough that window? Earlier you were so determined to get to the council, and now you seem content to just wait for them to come to you. Like an obedient child."
Standing up she walked the few steps to stand in front of him, holding a hand out as an invitation to use it to rise from his seat. "Come on. Let's go join the rest of them. There's no point in sitting here and wallowing."

Alois hissed through his teeth at her sudden intrusion on his thoughts. She objected to him as if he was some kind of tether against her freedom. She objected against Temperance’s call to leave the place, and yet turned around and used the nurse’s very words as grounds for an arugment now. Where the <********> did she get off?
„If you want to talk about obedient children, look at yourself! You’re just as guilty as ze rest of zem for standing about while my hand was broken, while I was dropped to my knees. What did you do to stop it? What did you do to help me when I needed it? You probably looked on just like ze rest.
„Sheep are not of my interest. If you want to go, zen go. Leaf’ me. I need some time to myself.“ He would answer her no further.

Juniper huffed, her hands going to her hips. "I will have toy know I was not there when you're hand was broken! The first time I saw you was up in the spire, so don't throw me into the lot that let that happen to you." "Not to mention if I was so damn obedient I wouldn't be in this room with the rest of you. I would have been a good girl who wore her mask until the very end. So I am far from being a obedient child. If you're not interested in leaving. That's fine." She turned with a twirl and plopped herself down in a seat further away from Alois to give him the illusion of privacy without actually leaving him. "But really, Iam not sure if staying here is in your best interest since everyone else left."

Sitting up abruptly, Alois snarled at her with the seething anger that boiled throughout their conversation. “No, you’re trying as hard as you ******** can to martyr yourself and proof’ you’f saved everyone else in some bullshit selfless act! Sorry Theresa, but I won’t be your next ******** tallymark on your road to sainthood! If you were standing around wis’ ze rest of zem, you’d haf’ srown yourself at Melany and demanded zat she transpose my punishments onto you! People like you are only ever good for taking a fall - you contribute nossing on your own. Maybe your mom should’f swallowed.“
His blistering gaze remained on her not a moment longer when he stood abruptly and shoulder checked the blonde that continued to stand in his path.
„Don’t ******** follow me,“ he warned when stepping through the shattered remains of the glass panel. Slipping through the window proved a simple feat, but finding time away from Nosy Nips demanded far more effort than it was worth. He would leave her to her petty illusions - fate be damned for its tawdry construct - and find his own path out from the cacophony.

Well ******** him too! The hell did he think he was assuming that she was trying to sacrifice herself for him?! b*****d! Apparently she couldn't be remotely nice to the guy unless she was a Martyr? Ha! He had a lot of nerve making so many assumptions about her.
With her own temper flaring, Juniper pushed up from the chair she had just settled into. If she had been wearing something more substantial than heels she might have kicked a piece of furniture to release some of her anger, but alas, she had no desire to be angry and in pain.
"Why the hell do I care so much anyway?" She growled at herself.
Glancing at the window she couldn't help a wry grin spread across her face. "Sorry, Alois, but if you think I am staying here now, you're highly mistaken."
Carefully she followed the same path the others had taken and slipped out the window with as much care as she could.
