Lady: 25/25, thoughts
"The Court is, in some ways, necessary," says Lady. "It controls the otherbeings. That it also controls humans is incidental to its original purpose, and as far as I understand it, has been largely brought about by changes in infrastructure."
She picks at the hem of her long sleeves. "You would have to tithe the Sorrowful One."

Lady: 25/25, thoughts
"I also think that the humans in the group who are unmasked should trade masks. A mask freely given may be worn by its recipient, and then you'll be safe from being called to the tithe."

jeremiah mercer || 27/27 || ... Lips press to a thin line at the mention of tithing the Sorrowful One but Jeremiah says nothing about it. "Adoelle wishes to be tithed herself, to help destroy the cage," he speaks up once more. "What we do tonight does not mean the cage breaks tonight, simply that we are continuing on that path. There's still one more, at least, that would have to fall for the cage to be completely broken so far as I know." His fingers tapped against the cloth mask from Beel and he looked over as Lady spoke. "Yes, anyone who is not masked should be masked. We have more than enough of them to go around at this point." A look to Shun who had several masks and Ashton who offered her's up. "I doubt that we can do away with both Ezra and Melany, but I would certainly put forth that we focus on Melany. She is, after all, the one who is the most dangerous it seems." After all, she set Jeremiah on edge from the moment he saw her. It was not often that he met someone who actually set him off all the time and reeked of danger. "If we take care of one of them, I'm certain we will be able to bring the ones that were taken home."

Chel | 15/25
Chel quieted for a moment, looking down and slight hurt when Shun spoke in particular but she listened to each of them fully. It made sense, really it did. But that didn't make it right.
"With all due respect, lady I don't think any of yer court people give a s**t what we want." Chel certainly hadn't seen any examples; from cryptic, conflicting messages to Melany's treatment of the doubles to the very conversation they were having right now; where had the otherbeings once cared about the humans' opinion? Chel still wasn't sure why humans were being allowed on the council in the first place. "F'we all persuade them different things, won't ********' work. Who we pick is who's gonna speak for us. So what we want is wrapped up in who we tell them t'pick." She had a lot more she wanted to say, but she could see this wasn't a crowd that wanted to try. For all intents and purposes, this group was- smart. Too smart to risk anything.
"Acceptin' the fact that you can't stop it is quittin'. You can say it as pretty as you want, s'still gonna be true. So yeah, get some people killed, mess with their court- you still gonna have a tithe next year f'you don't try to stop it."
Shun had already moved on, the others were discussing a plan. At least she could say she'd done everything to try to change the tide of events. After that, she was quiet. Back to baffled confusion at talk about a cage and the enemy and thinking that she probably shouldn't have come in the first place. As always, Chel had ended up in far over her head.

Juniper Wilcox
Eyes flashed at Ashton. "They'll survive another the months? Have you seen what some of them are like after 3 months here? Iam sorry, as much as I'd love to see Melant taken down I think the tithes need to be our main focus. "

Jack Hawthorn | 25/25
A familiar beanstalk appeared just in front of Chel, as if he might be a buffer to this rather hectic conversation.
"You would disrupt an ongoing process you've barely any information on save what people feed you?" he sneered at those suggesting it. "Forget the court. Get masks on the non-masked dupes. We can tamper with this Cage or whatever it is you're talking about when we have time. As some of you have said: the thing we can agree on is to just get people home. Stop playing the game, stop pretending taking one person out is going to exact revenge when we don't know s**t."

Marcus 25/25 lol hi
Having lingered in the Plum room as long as possible, (due to food and drink and general avoidance of nearly everyone that he thought might be a threat or actual secret spy agents for magical beings in what he had concluded was some kind of race war), Marcus re-entered with a sort of hesitancy as so many were now also in the room.
The safe room he mentally noted, pleased in thinking himself good to have trusted his intuition for once.
The talk was grim among those gathered and he rocked on the balls of his feet as he caught a few words. He had come from curiosity and had stayed because he wished to help. Being a recluse was not going to help anyone what so ever. A deep breath, a heavy sigh, and Marcus inched his way to the gathered grouping, normally blue orbs a dull yellow not unlike rotting fall leaves.
"....Huh."
He looked at Shun for a moment then Chel, (who he remembered only from the fact that she worked at the convenience store and seems to never enjoy it.). They had good points. It wasn't a matter of stopping something but rather mitigating the effects. Even if ideally, none would die.
"If the tithe has happened before, with what we can tell was no great ill consequences, then there is a likelihood that previously the odds were not in the favor of those in control to do something ah-." Marcus snapped his fingers trying to think of the words to say. "disastrous." He smiled a bit as he tried to make his way into the group.
"It would stand to reason that it is only because of our presence that something has changed. Someone or persons present an opportunity not held previously. So that begs the question, who gains the most from manipulating the guests who might persuade the council? The council exists for a reason like any governing body. Problem is now, we've got magical illuminati trying to pull a coup from all I can tell."
He looked to the doorway of the parlor. "History would tell us that most coup d'états are committed by the people at the behest of a puppet master. Problem is we don't know for sure who our puppet master is."

Ashton Carver 25/25 "They're alive," Ashton hissed at Juniper, "and surprisingly rebellious, given three months. If you really want to save them for whatever reason, accept it's an unlikely option. How much blood do you want directly on your hands, hmm?" She was surprisingly pleasant-sounding throughout the whole thing, the way you'd tell someone to relax because they needed to be calm for anesthesia. "There is a subtlety to these things, you know." "Someone will die regardless. We're children, meddling in things we don't understand. If this is a tradition, this is how it is."

[ Temperance" 25/25 hdu] "Ah, yeah, the finest tradition of murder should be followed to the ********' letter," she hissed right back at Ashton, butting into the conversation. "Alive for three months, why do you assume they will last another three - especially with the tithe tonight? What use do they unchosen tithes have once the deed is done? Fodder." She rubbed a hand across her face. "If we cannot save people, what's the point."

[25/25 | EVE]: ponderingEve nodded through the further insight. "We may be able to save the tithes and shake the Court without destroying it if we target Melany somehow. She's the 'patron' to them, which sounds like an important part of the process. Also, Noeh warned me about her earlier... she said Melany is responsible for her inability to speak."

Lily Babineaux: 25/25 - been creepin' around It didn't take much for Lily to slip into the assembly--all she had to do was dart under chairs and tables as a fisher, keeping low as she listened. She found a familiar set of shoes and glanced up at Nathaniel, giving herself the space to shift back to her human self, still looking the part of a magnificent red feather duster in an ivory mask. She fluffed her skirt once she was shifted, then looked back at Nathaniel with a thin smile. As much as this all was, he still seemed to be in decent shape, and it appeared no one had died yet by the conversation, so all in all everything looked pretty good. "What happens if the Court gets wrecked? Wouldn't that make for an...absence of power type thing?" She made a mental note to high-five whichever tutor had reminded her of that--it made her feel like she was actually contributing. "I'm not saying leave the murder cult party alone, but we should at least know what it is they do the other 364 days of the year so we don't accidentally ******** ourselves." She made it a point not to look at the rising argument caused by Ashton's points. It was not her place to butt in. As an afterthought, she finessed the moon-faced mask from her face, holding it lightly in her hands. With it gone, it was easy to see the small pair of horns that curled upwards from her hairline, separating her bangs into fragments. "I've got this if anyone needs it, too, but it really doesn't look like we're in a mask recession anymore." Somewhere in her mind, another tutor was getting a high-five.

jeremiah mercer || 27/27 || . . . "There will not be a tithe next year," Jeremiah replied. "There may be another party but this? This entire process? It's special." Marcus, in all honesty, had a fair amount of good points. Including that no one truly knew who the puppet master was. They were all just game pieces to be moved around. "The first priority is to obviously mask those in the room who are not moonwalkers so that they are not tithe potentials. We'll go from there."

Nathaniel Parrish - 25 / 25 - still lurking
"Why does it have to be one or the other?" Nathaniel asked, his voice quiet and hardly raised above the normal conversational level. It sounded tired and worn, a night drawn of continued discussions, wearying adventures around an unfamiliar place, and a complete lack of magical ability which made him feel, not for the first time, relatively unhelpful.
"Isn't there a way to mask those who need to be masked and then take down the Lady Melany as well?"
It was mostly directed at Jeremiah, the only person in the room other than Chris and sort of Connor who knew all the same information that Nathaniel did. His eyes flickered towards Connor as well, feeling, for once, as though h wasn't entirely alone in his uselessness.
Although Connor had said he had magical powers as well, so maybe that was out too.
A slight rustle beside him made him look down, and Nathaniel was pleased to find Lily there, looking up at him with a slight smile on her face. It was a relief to find her all right; he leaned away from the wall long enough to gently nudge hr shoulder with his own before reclining back against it.

Shun Kuroda 25/25
Shun folded his arms over his chest as he listened to the discussion around. People were starting to get a little hostile, not surprisingly. There was one thing that came to mind as they spoke of taking down the court and whatnot.
"This brings up a question. This is the Court of the Sorrowful One. And yet... Melany acts as though she is in charge. Why do you think that is? She may not be the true ringleader. Has anyone actually managed to speak with the Sorrowful One?"
At the mention of masking the unmasked, the detective went ahead and tossed a mask to Juniper and Temperance each. He had one extra mask remaining.

Finn Derouen | 25/25 | I walk away for ten minutes and-- let's kill batmanFinn had, previously, left Lady's side to go piss drunkenly into what he hoped was a toilet and, in returning, felt more clear-headed than he had all night. (Having not drunken anything in several hours seemed to have helped.) The parlor seemed to have filled significantly in the time he was gone, which made him pause in the doorway to wonder exactly how long he'd been wandering the halls. Anyway. "A power vacuum never helped anyone," he said, looking over at the were-fisher who'd asked. Finn had paid attention in AP Euro - had she? "Even if we don't understand the system at work... It's better to look at how we can accomplish our goals while coloring within the lines. If we go off-script, there's no telling what'll happen." If the otherworld wanted a tithe, it would get a tithe - he was resigned to that much. But maybe there was a way to make it eat one of its own? He looked over at Eve. "Why not make Melany the tithe?" he asked. "If we get her mask off, she's fair game, right?"
