"They will be able to find an easier transition from the road project to civil work, so that they my continue to earn their pay. They will be able to purchase property, so that they may have a home to grow their families safely. And they will be given the right to vote, so that they may have a voice to shape their home. After the completion of the road, the refugees will be given full citizenship and access to all these things." Hopeful that would clear up things for Youkimi...and if she still had questions he could give her a more straight answer if need be.

✺Forgotten Son Outfit(Heyoh~) After the last time Youkimi saw Dixon he made a few vows to himself: never to get that drunk again, he would never pick a fight in a strange country again, he would never let his guard down again. There was only one person who had seen his more vulnerable side, and up until about a month ago it had only been Youkimi. Now there was another.
That, however, was of secondary importance. It was perhaps the final push he needed to really get back into his old rhythm, and that's all that really mattered for many refugees from Ethe. In the month that had passed like a summer breeze Dixon had started speaking more frequently with officials from Bellris and Lionis. There had been a letter sent highlighting the points of his reconstruction plan in the first week after the eruption; when Dixon reignited, so to speak, there was a follow-up mailed with the help of advisers from House Kai which read as a more accessible, more professional version of the same plan. Dixon knew now there was little room for ego if he was going to elevate his country back to her former glory and cement himself as a legend in Ethe's history.
In those meetings, full of sly jabs at the people of Ethe and a general sneering of the religion of the land, Dixon was poised and charming as he could have been. He laughed at their jokes without moving his lips--terribly difficult: the very essence of bourgeois humor. He went the whole conversation without switching legs--astonishing poise! He even managed to seem genuine when he complimented the ladies on their ridiculous dresses. ... That one wasn't really so much planned as Dixon having a serious lack of fashion sense.
Either way, they loved him. It had been much the same as it was before; the dignitaries taking a shine to his country boy charm while still feeling comfortable, safe, knowing that he wouldn't attack them or dirty their table-ware or whatever it was they thought he might do. Honestly, it's like he was an alien. Maybe a well-trained dog was a better fit...
Now, though, there was the addition of this new, commanding demeanor. Try as they might, if they were aware, there was no shaking the feeling that the count would not take "no" for an answer--ever! He was going to rebuild his country. He was going to save his people. Sanctions had been put into place so that those with a certain amount of land were able to allocate tax breaks to families of its former employees.
"Sir!" One day there was a calling for Dixon in the main chamber of his newly replanted estate (the old one had gone up in smoke). "We've found a mineral vein..."
The good count Titanus rose up and flicked his sleeves up over his forearms, looking down the whole time as though it had been understood, arranged for, since before he cared to remember. "Then we had better get to work then, yes?" Out they went. Within a couple days there was extensive documentation--which really mean a lot of people paid perhaps too handsomely to sketch the details of the new facility as they were discovered--taken and sent to the leading houses of Lionis and the council at Bellris. This prompted a tour of sorts for the count at the request of those nobles and former nobles. He started his tour here.
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
As the prince was speaking with Youkimi he would soon hear the footsteps of another approaching. Taking a more civilised approach, Dixon called ahead and asked that his presence be announced before he arrived. From the lush shrubs of the garden, like a plane from a cloud, emerged a manservant from Roland's house.
"Sir, your guest has arrived," he whispered into the prince's ear as he slipped him a card which read "Dixon, count of Titanus, has come as per your request." Soon it would be plain to see that he was here--at least for Youkimi. there was a vague wave of heat from the East side of the garden. An ember snaked its way through the corridor from the courtyard and blackened the head of the orchid so talked about a moment ago. Shortly thereafter the steps to match were heard building toward them. The sun shone brightly on the count, and he made his best effort not to squint. He gave a nod and small wave to both of them before entering the garden and finding his way to them.
"Good afternoon," he said taking his place among them. "Thank you for having me on such short notice, but I believe we've brought together at a very good time." He finished with a smile, eager to hear what the two had been discussing before he arrived.

Baroness Youkimi Kai Living today without a way To understand the weight of the world
Youkimi pondered these things quietly as the prince explained them to her. The offering was advantageous to many, perhaps this would allow some to have dual citizenship? But then... with the dissolution of the country, there had not been any to officially stand up and take the helm as nobility in Ethe. She dwelt in Bellris, herself, but her resources returned to her home country. Perhaps it was her trepidation when it came to Bellris' current people and that she didn't want to infringe upon the existing status quo as an intruding noble. Then again... or perhaps fortunately, none had spoken to that effect in her company or to those in her employ. Perhaps they were a bit stunned from the effects of the natural disaster and were still processing what it would do to a people, or perhaps what would have happened were they of Ethe.
To have the option, as well as the pay, and the capacity for some to purchase their own land as well as to experience the benefits of Bellris.... this republic that operated on votes... perhaps that was what they wanted? Would this help them?
She inclined her head, though she found that her thought process became distracted when the servant to the prince stepped up and gave a message that was just outside of her hearing. Nevertheless, she waited, and saw for herself when Dixon approached to join them on the scene. He seemed much better off and to have himself together. This was a relief, yes, but still her mind flashed back over the last time she saw him. She was able to mask it well, but for a moment she felt anxious and ashamed, almost unsure of how to speak to him.
Fortunately, when he had the chance, he spoke and greeted the both of them. His posture, his confidence, the calm and natural regality preceded his steps. He would talk of business. He had been invited.
Then, she too could keep her conversation even. Focusing on their common goal would be easier to do. She wouldn't admit it, but to have him there did help her feel as though she wasn't entirely alone or that she had to make the decision alone. Yes, she was trusted with many things, but she found that she didn't want to trust herself alone when it came to decisions that would affect her home country. Or perhaps the calmness came from the warmth he naturally radiated. Familiar. Soothing.
..... Strange how it juxtaposed her other feelings.
"His highness suggests a work project for building trade routes along and through Ethe. The work this would provide would be paid for by Bellris and would benefit those involved in the project." She began to fill in the count on their discussion thus far. "Ethian workers hired to the task will also receive permission to purchase land in Bellris, if they so wish it, as well as earn citizenship here."

Been out of sorts as of late. Prince Roland Leoharz Bellris "This letter also came for you." Added Roland's manservant as he alerted the prince of Duke Dxion's arrival. Roland thanked his manservant before letting him take his leave and then reading the letter immediately after. "I'm sorry Youkimi, this will only take a second." While the prince took the time to read the letter his brow immediately raised with surprise. Such surprise in fact that it could have been read by anyone looking at his face. He didn't get the time to reread the entire letter to make sure he read all of it right, but this was due to the odd heat entering the garden. Roland slips away his received letter, tucked well in an interior pocket of his uniform so no to lose it, and with the ember having caught his eyes Roland would have himself slightly discomforted but a sigh would remedy the stress of the beautiful orchid killed but the new presence of foreign nobility. "Count Dixon, welcome! I believe fortune dose shine on us today. While what Youkimi says is true, I'll repeat what I'm asking of Youkimi and make clear what is on the trading table for you and I. I wish to put the current refugee that reside in my republic to work, so that they may earn a living. After our road is completed those who worked on the road will be offered citizenship and the rights that come along with that status. If they have a spouse and children then they too will be given citizenship but one thing is a must when you are a citizen of Bellris; Loyalty above all things. Our people do not serve two countries...and I hope you make that clear when you speak to the refugees, miss chairwoman Youkimi."Roland's gaze slightly shifting to the baroness as he speaks. "As a member of the council you will be a great help in assisting the refugees understand and accept the government as their friend and ally." But then his eyes turned back to Dixon as he feels sure Youkimi understands her first given mission and that he can speak about his trade with Dixon knowing Youkimi. She seemed to know Dixon and they seem to have a history with one another already. "As for us, Dixon, forgive me for being forward but I'd like to know what would part you from some of that fortune you unearthed? I'm interested in purchasing the rights to dig, if you'd be so willing to make a trade for it."

✺Forgotten Son OutfitDixon listened carefully to what was being said. In the year or so he'd been at this whole noble thing he had picked up some of the finer elocution and debating styles they brought to serious conversations. That said, it was still not easy to understand everything that was being said. Mind you, Dixon was not a professional negotiator, but he still had the street smarts to at least haggle--and really wasn't that what it was all about, simply in a fancy wrapper? He would use it to the max here as he nodded along slowly.
"'Do not serve two countries?' What the hell does that mean?" Dixon thought to himself as he adjusted his head to take advantage of his height and look down slightly at Roland.
"Indeed, it is a fine day, my lord," said the count with a smile when it was his turn to speak. "So fine that the largesse (YES! New word used!) of our help shining on us has finally allowed us to bloom again." Youkimi's help had taught Dixon to fall back on his unusual knack for poetry when he hadn't solid ideas on which to build an argument--or when he thought that was the case.
"You have given my people a home when they had none," he said taking a knee briefly. He looked up and continued for a moment before rising again. "But we shall not burden you anymore. The letter there is true; we have discovered a site worthy of our namesake as the 'jewel empire,' so it will be that we will soon stand again," he concluded as he came to a stand. Youkimi could sense the strength of his aura if nobody else would. It was more confident than confrontational.
"... However." Dixon's face dropped its smile, taking on the stern look of a nightwatchman. "I cannot accept this arrangement as it stands. Your proposal to build roads, which I have seen scouters laying foundation and drawing plans for, are far too extensive to be called a simple employment program. If it is your aim to employ the bulk of my people simple to make them citizens, I should have to accuse you of thievery of the highest degree." That sounded awesome! Those lessons are paying off! Okay, keep going...
"Furthermore," he said raising a finger, "the land itself has yet to be worked. It is extremely fertile after the eruption--this is common fact--and yet I have seen little cooperation in cultivating a self-sustaining agricultural sector in Ethe. Believe me when I say that no nation will stand without lush farmland. We cannot do it in our current state, and my pleas to help in this area have gone unanswered." Dixon, arms crossed elegantly behind him, squeezed an invisible throat made of air in his fist until it popped, then relaxed without showing more than a little of his burning rage in his eyes.
"Our predictions are that, for the next few years, our worth will be measured in grains and rich fruit from the land's soil. After such time we will no doubt rebuild our mining facilities to reclaim our former glory. I suggest that investing in our farmland will be far more beneficial to you. Help us grow, sir, but do not ransom my people away as a savior." Dixon was clear as he could be. Being the ranking noble from that country there, he would not hear any objection from Youkimi. Really, if it was that she had become part of this council, implying more loyalty to this foreign land than Dixon cared to think about, and if she was on board with this absorption plan, then she too would have to be treated as the opposition to what Dixon saw as the only way to defend his people.

Baroness Youkimi Kai Living today without a way To understand the weight of the world
Youkimi's eyes widened marginally as she listened to Dixon's explanation and his thoughts. He was direct and well-spoken, and the strength of his confidence was nearly tangible. Dangerous as it was to make him a force to be reckoned with there was also the slight risk of sweeping some poor schoolgirl off of her feet. Then again, the presence of proper nobility ran that risk just by virtue of the power of good manners, etiquette, and the eloquence of a talented voice. Was this really the formerly unknown young man who was taunted and teased because of his background? Whoever that illusion was, it was gone. It was impressive.
Youkimi did need a few seconds to recover but this went well with the few moments allowed for a statement settle and to give her time to collect her thoughts and mention what she would say and add to this. She would wait until after the count had finished speaking before she allowed herself to voice her thoughts.
"We would be honored to have the help and support of the republic, your highness." Youkimi lowered her eyes. Dixon had spoken well and his opinion was one she was glad and grateful to have. To have been offered a council seat was an honor and she hoped to better aid the people with it. There was power in the position that she couldn't take lightly or take for granted. "While roads would be useful for all of us, we cannot remove the usefulness of Ethe, nor is it easy for us to renounce our claim to homeland."
She bowed again in apology. "May we discuss further options that would benefit both of our nations?"

Company:: Youkimi and Dixon Clothing:: Prince Outfit (look at picture) Feeling:: Confident Condition:: Healthy Location:: Garden Currency:: 1359¢ EC Items:: Dyrnwyn, gift necklace (hidden) OOC:: Hehe, I'm glad it wasn't all unicorns and rainbows. Prince Roland Leoharz Bellris All the while like a crocodile in wait, Dixon's feelings bubble at the surface. He might have thought himself clever or proper by trying to camouflage hostility but his own aura would be his betrayal. Dixon wasn't a man who could put up airs of false modesty but that was fine. It didn't suit the count very well at all; heated warmth rising as the count spoke of his people being stolen away. "You paint bold strokes with your words, Dixon." Roland smiles with a slight air of smugness to it. "This tapestry you discribe sounds as though you are a bringer of new beginnings with unearthed wealth that will restore the land you call home into a humble glory, but how long do you think that will take? You accuse me of robbing your people under pretext of saviour, but how many of these families had the same given choice to stay and make Ethe work rather than find comfort in the arms of a country that actually can provide for them? I did not force your people by tip of spears to come into my lands. They came because they understand the reality of there situation, just as your queen dose...Which is why she's already agreed to have my republic build a road to your land of Ethe."Perhaps there was a division within the ruling structure in Ethe but from what his sister, Queen Hysteria, has placed in motion the influence of the republic was already strong in the rebuilding of Ethe. It was only a matter of time before a majority of its remaining farmers and miners come to see the benefits of working for a free republic rather than a ruined kingdom which still owes taxes to an empire which has not enough time to bother with aiding them as much as Roland's country has already. "So while you don't want to accept the republic's help it is too late to go against it. Your countrymen have spoken and your queen has as well, and they say they want a brotherhood with Bellris...So when the road is done, and make no mistake in knowing that the road will be completed, the workers can choose to thrive with us or survive with you...But that will be a choice they will make on their own."It was more than likely not what Dixon wanted to hear but in tragedy there is opportunity. Roland would be a fool to have let this opportunity to better his republic go by unnoticed. It just so happens that both Dixon and Youkimi noticed it too. "Tell me, chairwoman Youkimi, would it benefit us as a republic to buy land from what Count Dixon is willing to sell or to by minerals from him by bulk?"His eyes then slyly looking over to the count himself. "You wouldn't have happened to uncover some emeralds, have you Dixon? I'm quite a fan of the color green."

✺Forgotten Son Outfit(Well that's good. lol) Dixon shut his eyes for a moment, waiting for the explosion of anger within to wash over him. Caught on the warm breeze, it fluttered away and joined the butterflies out in the courtyard. They would fitter about in the impassioned rage which spilled out in a sigh, and, just like that, it was over. The count opened his eyes a new man, unaffected by the Prince's taunts. Rest assured, he was still very fond of the idea of strangling Roland, but undoing all the work he had put in was too steep a price to pay.
b*****d...!
"Do not offend me, my good lord," said Dixon stepping to the side, falling into pacing as he held eye contact with the former prince. "Your assumptions are wrong. The people in my charge, on my land, have each voted to stay and work the fields. Each day I am astounded, and often outpaced, by their drive to search for minerals and tend the fields. These are not a people so discouraged as you might think; each day they are renewed, indeed rising from the ashes." He paced up to Roland, stopping little more than a yard away. He would not make a move directly, but there was this overwhelming confidence that showered over the whole scene and Dixon wore a contented smile on his face as he looked down at the usurer.
"Simply because you have convinced a few influential figures, do not mistake that for free will. Those outside your influence have chosen otherwise. I have listened to these people; rest assured, you do not hear my voice in them but theirs in me." If it was possible to be level-headed, cocky, and intimidating, that was the count right now.

Baroness Youkimi Kai Living today without a way To understand the weight of the world
The situation unfortunately leapt out of her ability to keep composure within. To hear any news of the nobility of Ethe was something she had been hoping for, yet to hear it unfold in this manner astounded her and stunned her to silence. Had her ability to find and interact with the nobles been fruitless? Had the initial burst to find the rulers been useless? Had they wanted to be found or had she been simply unable to amass the manpower necessary to reign in the help and leadership beyond...
.... Was she trying to save a kingdom that didn't want to be seen as such? If the Majesty was giving up on it... and what of the debts? When had these been spoken of? Had she been in the dark on that matter also?
The unsettling feelings that came from this introspective hyperanalysis caused the air about the woman to warm, but slightly, as she forgot to tend to her powers. There was a chill along her nerves that was cold and harsh, kin to the dread of what some of these words implied.
She stood stiffly aside as the count and prince continued their discussion. With a face devoid of color, she listened. While a distant outsider might see a conversation within control, there were threads underscoring the words. The play of information, logic, and emotion.... So much time would be spent in studying these words and this conversation later, but right now... right now... She didn't know what to say. While she knew that she was responsible for the people in her care, those she had been able to reach, and she knew that Dixon was an attentive master over his land and people, she couldn't say the same for the queen. She prayed it wasn't true.
She couldn't answer the prince. She didn't want to speak.

Lord Hedo Company:: Youkimi and Dixon Clothing:: Prince Outfit (look at picture) Feeling:: Concern and caring Condition:: Healthy Location:: Garden Currency:: 1359¢ EC Items:: Dyrnwyn, gift necklace (hidden) OOC:: A little drama always spiced things up, wouldn't you both agree? Prince Roland Leoharz Bellris Roland smirks at the taller man which stands before him; Two lions of nature at odds with their prides and their hearts. "You surely do have a flair for these negotiations, but I only find that true emotions behind your words prove to be effective." Fire crackled between these two men who wanted to be a saviour to the people of Ethe but only one would be seen as such. While it was true that Roland is helping them in his own country Dixon is working to keep them home and show that they have a will to carry on with their own two hands and legs. Roland could respect that much, but his patriotism would not allow him to back down in capturing more souls for the republic. "Rest assure that I will do everything in my power to-"Before the prince carries on he suddenly stops. His eyes have see the vibrantless expression of the raven haired woman and his heart quickly filled with a concern which trumped all other thoughts for now. "Youkimi, are you alright?" He asks and then, being closest to her at the time, gently takes hold of her hands into his. "My goodness, you feel as cold as death and look as though you might faint! Please, take a moment to relax Youkimi. Have a seat with me while I have someone fetch you a glass of water."His bright and kind gaze was worried for the woman whom was like a flower in his rich ruby stare. Delicate and feminine, it was Roland's duty as a man to be sure a woman in his presence isn't in poor health and especially when it was someone he felt was important. He chose to have Youkimi at his side in the chamber of council and he would not allow her to wilt away in his care.

✺Forgotten Son OutfitThere was something of a snarl underneath that placid smile Dixon wore as Roland pulled away. He couldn't stand it anymore. He wouldn't even know how to explain why, but something about this greedy prince putting his mitts on Youkimi, pawing at her and fawning over her like a precious snowflake he might have thought was a diamond--it drove him insane.
The count's power surged, finally hitting the boiling point. He didn't care about politics now. Even if Roland's plan was better in the long run, it didn't matter. This was no simply rivalry anymore. Lions, bare fangs!
"YOUKIMI." Dixon's voice was as powerful as his aura; which, boosted by his anger--thanks to his ability--was something to be wary of. "Stand strong. You're from the richest blood of Ethe. That means you are not so weak as to need saving from anyone, least of all a foreigner who doesn't know our ways... Or our strength." Now Dixon was locked onto Roland, walking up slowly, in control, as he nudged for Youkimi to pass to a chair nearby. He blocked her body the whole way, squaring off with Roland. He didn't blink. He said nothing.

Baroness Youkimi Kai Living today without a way To understand the weight of the world
She was startled back to the present a bit sharply when she heard her name, and no honorific, from both gentlemen. The conversation had dropped, it seemed, and attention was on her. Was her appearance that distracting?
On contact, she was equally stunned and a bit startled. Did she really look so out of sorts that she
The baroness seemed to recover and she withdrew her hands from the prince's. This was not proper, and besides this, it was awkward enough that she allowed herself to feel so out of sorts in the presence of veiled hostility. If she couldn't handle the conversation, then she should have excused herself before the gentlemen had a chance to notice. When had she lost her ability to gauge that?
No. She hadn't lost it. She was fine. There was just... There was a lot on her mind, now, and she wasn't someone who processed information quickly so much as wished to come forward when she had answers. It was unwise to have her uninformed on something when a decision was needed quickly.
The pressure of the confrontation and suddenly having their attention when she had nothing remarkable to say was unsettling. "I beg your pardon."
She bowed her head and then turned to the far side of the courtyard. She was embarrassed and suddenly anxious about this turn. The berating words and the radiating defensiveness that came from this... she could have avoided it if she had not broken her composure. A walk was needed, but for now it would wait. Once she was seated, she could ease their concern regarding her health. She didn't consider herself in any danger.
Attempting to recover the semblance of elegance, she found a bench in the garden courtyard and sat upon it. She folded her hands on her lap, ensured that her posture was immaculate, and as she had done many thousands of times, her expression recovered into thoughtful consideration.
"Please do not concern yourself over me, your highness. I am well." Her voice found familiar calm, a polite tone that offered nothing more than the balance she sought within herself. "I apologize to have brought concern to you, my count. I did not mean to be mistaken as weak or ailing."
She finally allowed herself to look up. Since she had their attention... "We have greater concerns, I imagine, as we were discussing Ethe. Do we wish to move out of the open courtyard to better discuss what we might accomplish?"

(Also, you know it Reina! Lol) Prince Roland Leoharz Bellris "What is your issue!" Roland barks back at the shouting Dixon as he felt the instant sting of the counts insults. So what if he were a foreigner, his worry for Youkimi was genuinely real as too were his challenging eyes at the count. When Youkimi excused herself Roland gave her that chance, letting her hands slip from his without resistance but his nature still concerned of her feeling. "Dixon, I hope you see what that temper of yours has done to the people you care about...You might want to think next time before you lash out mindlessly."Dixon mentioned a pride that rubbed Roland the wrong way, especially when he expected Youkimi to not accept any help just because of that notion known as pride. Thankfully the baroness hadn't needed help to recollect her calm aura but still...How could the count expect his people to turn down help from another even if it were to lead to them being harmed from there stubborn ways. Rejoined to Youkimi after allowing her to breath, the baroness told Roland not to worry for her so he'd respect her pride and not think her so sensitive as to wilt with the wind. She showed a fierce determination to carry on with what was important...So let this invitation for progress continue, with a restarted point of emotion set thanks to Youkimi the baroness. "We'll continue where you feel most comfortable. I don't want you straining yourself on my account."

✺Forgotten Son Outfit(You are! Sometimes guys just need an excuse. Unfair maybe, but girls kinda are that excuse most times. XD) (Does that amuse you? lol)
"My problem," snapped the count, "is that sometimes it's more insulting to help than to just leave things be! Don't you think for a second Youkimi can't handle herself. She's a strong Ethian noble, and that means more than you care to admit, I think." At this point Dixon was inches from Roland's face, ready to sock him with a big right hook.
"I don't think you understand, sir." He snarled, tightening his fist but not touching the prince. At least not yet. "I haven't lashed out in the slightest." ... But, Youkimi had called for a truce. Dixon wasn't about to attack the man on his own turf, but he swore to himself he would have his day. He stepped back, straightening out his collar.
"That sounds lovely. I'll join you. Lest you make deals concerning my land behind my back." The wrapper had come undone; the contents: sour. Dixon found his way over to Youkimi. He bent down to whisper in her ear.
"You and I need to talk after this." He was brief. He gave a curt wave to Roland and waited to be taken someplace else. Rest assured, this was the old street urchin in him coming out. Theirs was a different politics. When negotiations took place there were rarely such tame tones.
