"As long as we nest by the water, I don't mind following you on land. When we retire." Vanu said with a shrug just wanting to make sure that was known. After all, out of all the people that Vanu had met up to this point in his, he liked his Captain best. Maybe as much as himself but that wasn't certain. Once he was sure that the meeting was done, he went about his usual good byes, "Aye, Captain." Vanu stood up, gave a small respectful bow, then started to head out, to go back to his duties but paused at the door. "Captain? You happen to see where that pendant went?" Vanu was curious feeling the lack of weight in his pocket. " Think it disappeared. Would hate for the brat to have a reason to break his silence so early." If Kidev looked he would see the starting of a sinister smile creeping on to the man's features.
Another thought hit Vanu, like lightening, "Oh! My Captain, would you like me to get the crew going? Shall we leave in the morning? I am sure it will make the morale a bit better. The sea calls. "

That hat hid all of his but Kidev did respond, "I could never leave the ocean ferever, fer the sea holds me heart. It is my home." This was far too sappy of a conversation to speak outside of the darkness of his hat. A captain always needed to be harsh after all, especially with such stubborn crew mates. His ears took in the sound of Vanu's footsteps but his question made Kidev lift his hat. A curious blue gaze pierced the back of the man. The care he took in stroking Vanu's ego did not measure up to the care he took in keeping Orynoko alive. He gave a sneer to the Nivasi Halfbreed as he knocked his feet to the floor, picked up the pendant from the table and threw it to Vanu, "Catch, ya sea dog! Can't be startin' trouble before we left the docks now!" Kidev rose from his seat and leaned his hips against the table. "Now go play with the new Cabin Boy." Another question tossed his way caused his arms to cross and a smile to crack on his face. "Prepare the crew, my First Mate. We set sail at first light!" He honestly felt better too.WC: 204

Vanu snickered lightly at the Captain's sentimental words towards the ocean, even if the feeling was a mutual concept among many pirates. He couldn't quite place it, but there was something about those words. He didn't have the time to analyze, as the pendant came at him. He captured it quickly in his palm. "I will try my best, Captain." It was a promise he intended to keep, the plans for that boy were already starting to form in his mind. "I will make sure that they know that we are leaving in the morning, give the crew one last day to go tend to things on land if they want." Vanu pocketed, the pendant.
Vanu left the Captain's quarters finally. He headed out to the forecastle deck, at the bow to address the crewman on the ship.
"We are leaving at dawn. If you have any business to tend to ashore take care of it this evening. We are finally headed back out to sea boys!" There was nothing needed for Vanu's voice to carry on the ship once he got into using his sea voice. You could hear it over the worse of storms. Now he was free to do nothing, or rather bother poor Orynoko.

Of course the entire crew roared in delight cheering brightly for Vanu's announcement. The only one who didn't cheer was Orynoko. He just offered a smirk to any crew mate who addressed him and held fast to his charts. One crew mate ven asked if he planned to go ashore again for one last wench but the man scoffed with a laugh, "I've had my fill for a long time! Ya wouldn't believe how much can be done in a week's time!" Caelum sighed a little remaining at Orynoko's side. This human would get himself killed without him. He cast a weary glance over at Vanu. He understood the punishment all too well. What would that man do to his companion? After the crew that decided to go to shore departed, Orynoko stood near Vanu with his arms crossed. He looked incredibly sour but he was just close enough he could hear the First Mate bark any orders he might. However Kidev's order of silence kept him from saying one word. All he could do was stand there and wait.WC: 180

"Oh, there is no need to be so tart, I am not going to make your life too much more miserable." Vanu pat Orynoko's face breifly. "I know you still have duties to attend as the navigator so I will try to only wear you out so much given we are leaving in the morning. Ready to find out what I have planned for you?" Vanu beamed. "I am going to have you scrapping barnacles. I think its high time that the boat got a little love." Vanu held up some ropes and rigging. "I am going to dangle you off the edge of the ship with a bucket, and tools. I won't make you do the whole ship that would be cruel, and it can't be done all in one night anyway. I will be realistic, so removing the barnacles from the left of the bow." Vanu walked to to the railing and spread his arms out, and tied off two pieces of rope, " Between these markers, and I will wait for low tide so you can get more of the low ones. Sound good? Not like you have an actually opinion in the matter, but at least I am not making you be a footrest or an anchor." Vanu was rather proud of this punishment, it was hard work, it would hopefully tire Orynoko out so he had less energy to be a little pain in the arse tomorrow. It would be a win-win really. For Vanu and the boat that is.

The entire time Vanu spoke to him, not once did those green eyes lift from the water's edge over the side of the ship. He was purposely not looking at him or giving him any satisfaction of his attention. Captain Kidev said he had to follow orders in silence. Never once did it come up to give Vanu the attention that arrogant p***k wanted. His face flinched and he jerked violently away from Vanu when he felt his face patted. He would have actually snapped were it not for the gloves that protected his flesh from that fishman's touch. There was so little the astral could do to console Orynoko but he desperately had to try something. That last bit was enough to make his companion snap! Immediately the tiri was at Orynoko's side, leaning against him to support him. He knew he had to endure this and yet this was all he could do. Its not like Caelum didn't warn Orynoko to go back several times. He knew this was the human's own fault but it didn't stop him from being at his side any less. The sound of rigging got Orynoko to drag his gaze to Vanu's hands at the very least. It was a good thing Kidev ordered silence because if he had the chance, there would be so much sass flying at the First Mate's command. He was a human and this guy was a fishman incarnate! Why did he have to go on the rigging and of ALL PEOPLE who had to help him with this duty, HIM? VANU? He had to trust his safety in the hands of the man who slaughtered his family!?! There was none of this outrage expressed on his face beyond the pursing of his lips. Silence turned out to be his friend. All he could do was merely give a nod. It wasn't like he was in a position to refuse.WC: 322

"Good, good." Vanu looked over the edge of the ship, examining the waves to get an idea of when the next low tide would be. " Let's see you have about fifteen minute to yourself before the low tide. You can do what you wish until then, as long as you stay on the ship." Vanu dismissed him for the time being, that likely the nicest thing he could do at the moment, truth was he wanted a nap. " Meet me back here then." Vanu walked back past Orynoko and his astral, "You gonna keep him of trouble til then?" He asked in passing to the astral. Van kept walking its not like he could hear the thing even if it could answer he went into his cabin and went to rest.

Was this some sort of trick? Orynoko couldn't hide his quizzical expression. What was this? Green eyes narrowed at Vanu's back as he walked away. Did the Captain ask for his First Mate to go easy on him? Was this to get him to lower his guard? He couldn't comprehend it at all! At least he had time to set down the charts in hand. He had no clue how Kidev could tolerate such an unruly tyrant as this but however he did it, at least it seemed to bring out the more subdued nature in the fish. He reported back for duty exactly on time since he knew if he was even a minute late there wouldn't be any more kindness shown.WC: 123

Vanu stretched as he woke up from his nap, causing his hammock to rock gently, it had been about fifteen minutes, just enough for a needed power nap. He pushed himself out of the hammock and put his boots back on, he would need them for traction while he had Orynoko cleaning off barnacles. Vanu was a few minutes late himself but was pleasantly surprised to see that the boy was already waiting for him.
Fighting a yawn, Vanu spoke, " Hey, glad you actually showed up. Nice to know I don't have to kick your butt all the time. Lets get you hooked up with the rigging then." Vanu strode over the rigging and tossed it to Orynoko. While he waited for him to get himself into the rig, Vanu set up the pulley system that would be used to raise and lower the man. And a secondary rope for security. Besides the two pieces that were acting as guidelines.
Vanu turned to him and pointed out each set of ropes, " Guideline, pulley up, safety, pulley down, guideline. Think you can remember that?"

The obstinate pirate didn't look at Vanu when he approached. His response was to put his hands on his hips and tap his boot impatiently at the First Mate though his tongue remained locked away. How dare he keep him waiting? Even for a few minutes! If Orynoko hadn't shown up on time, Vanu would have beaten him black and blue! When he heard Vanu handle something he turned just in time to see and catch the rigging that was tossed at him. It was a good thing the guy was swift or else he'd have a real problem.
Now the First Mate had his attention. He moved as fast as possible to put on the rigging. It wasn't the first time he had scraped barnacles but it had been a long time since he had this job so it was a rare moment that he actually defaulted to Vanu's words. He had no choice. The thought that he had to place his life in this man's hands was enough to make his astral shudder for him. However, he maintained his cool. His gaze drifted over the various ropes and mouthed in silence each word that Vanu had gone over. He looked back and gave a nod. However, the stubborn lad took no initiative in beginning this process. He just stood there and crossed his arms.WC: 226

Vanu sighed and shook his head, " Listen, I get it, you want to kill me. I don't particularly care for humans either. So I don't like you much. And you don't like me, for obvious reasons. I get it, we stuck in a whirlpool of loathing. But the Captain has ordered me to keep you in one piece but make sure you learn your place on the ship. And the one thing I won't do, is disobey MY Captain." Vanu's words were serious no joking tones within ,his hands were busied by the pulley as he worked the ropes into it,for a few tests before hooking up Orynoko. "And that means you have to listen to orders from your supervisors, that being the Captain, the Cook, Myself, and a handful of scarce others on the ship, that have been here longer." Vanu finished the tests, and looked back to Orynoko, " Make sure that yer rigging is on tight, then I will fasten you to the pulley system."
"Once I lower you over the side, if you need help call for it and will do what I can on my end." It was the truth, hard to stomach likely on either end of the conversation, but it was.

Orynoko rolled his eyes and shook his head no to Vanu's accusation that he wanted to kill him. He would never admit it or be honest with this being for as long as he lived. Especially when he was right on the gold. At the remark there was a smirk given by Orynoko to Vanu as if in amusement. With his hands, he made the gesture of Kidev's hat and then pointed to his own heart as if to say, my Captain, but not able to make a single sound.Caelum groaned and glared at Orynoko. "This man is about to put you over the side of the boat and you really want to challenge him over who owns the Captain? Haven't you figured it out that Kidev owns you BOTH?"All he could respond to Caelum was with a shrug and a grin. Orynoko knew he had fun challenging Vanu for ownership of the Captain. After all, he could do no wrong in the Captain's eyes. He exhalted a breath with annoyance at the reminder that others on the ship held a higher position than he in the assignment orders. Like he was really going to listen to anyone but Kidev. That was a laugh in its own right. However he did do as Vanu ordered and gave him a nod before looking away in annoyance. He wasn't going to break his word to the Captain. Even if he was in trouble he would never utter a sound.WC: 249

Vanu held in a growl and approached Orynoko, at first it looked a bit like he was going to shiv him in the stomach with some unseen weapon, but he started hooking him up to the pulley not bothering to make himself look less intimidating. Once Orynoko was hooked up he gave him a grin. " Alright you ready?" He gave one of the ropes a pull, that was attached to Orynoko, hoping to make him stumble at bit. Orynoko really should have known better than to start playing these types of games when Vanu was in charge of how far the ropes are let out.

There was a defiance in the man's scarred face at the First Mate's approach as if he had been winning some sort of silent game. However, when no pain came immediately it took everything he had to not snicker. He had won.. or so he had thought until the pull came and knocked off his balance. Orynoko stumble forward and glared at him but gave a nod. He didn't like this ordeal at all.The astral stood at the human's side and sighed. "You asked for that one. Its a good thing you're not allowed to talk or I think your mouth would have gotten you into even bigger trouble. Honestly, you humans and your contests in who owns what. As if you own anything." He sighed but stayed at Ory's side nonetheless. A careful gaze sat on Vanu. He didn't blame the man for his gesture but he wouldn't let his companion die without a fight either.WC: 158

"Hop over the side and hold the railing." Vanu instructed, as he picked up the bucket and the tools for removing the barnacles clattered against each other, "Large knife for the big ones, small for scrapping, you see any Goosehead barnacles you put them in the bucket for the Cook. If you break a goosehead toss it, the Cook doesn't like broke ones." He knows that Orynoko had done this before but a refresher, on what to do would always come with this duty. Considering that it was actually dangerous, if you messed up while doing it. You cold cut yourself while you were removing a barnacle, get tangled in the ropes, end up pissing off the Cook.
" Once you are over, I will hand you the bucket. And pick up the ropes to lower you down." Vanu noticed the astral, " Don't worry I am not gonna kill your human. Not like this anyway, so as long as he doesn't do anything purposely stupid. You get to have your human for at least another day." Vanu felt like it was worth it to reassure the astral to some extent.
