Taiki couldn't help grinning at the sight of the stars. They were one of the things he loved about the world. "Yes, stars are shiny, you dork," he said bopping Trez on the nose and letting a burst of stardust flutter in front of his face. Not enough to do any harm, but enough to sparkle and fall into his lap. "I can't believe you had to question that."
He took the sketchbook, planning to draw something simple, but it was like all the thoughts in his head disappeared at the sight of the paper. He stared at the page blankly for a solid minute before just tossing it on the table. Groaning, Taiki flopped into Trez's lap, looking up at him. "I can't do this anymore. My mind is turning to mush. Think of something more entertaining to do," he said poking him in the side a few times. "Before I fall asleep on you."

He hadn’t really been expecting anything in particular, but was still completely thrown off when his field of vision was suddenly full of sparkles. He blinked a few times, before chuckling at the male’s words.
“Yeah, well, I’m tired. Sue me.”
But then he was thrown for another loop as the sketchbook was suddenly tossed onto the table, and his lap was full of Taiki. He twitched when his side was being poked, growling playfully.
“Oh, right. I’m in charge of entertaining you. Your court jester, so to speak, until Craith arrives to beat me within an inch of my life.” he grinned down at his lapful, carefully letting his arms drop to be on either side of the male.
“Now, I’m not sure if this will be as entertaining to you as it will be to me, but… I have always wanted to know if there was an end to your reserved demeanor. Does the great Taiki have a giggle button?” he mused, before moving to run his hands over the male’s sides, searching for anything that might make him react.
”After all, you can’t fall asleep if I’m tickling you!”

Taiki smiled up at him, "Well, I could beat you instead if its such a burden to keep me company. Save Craith the trouble and all that." He wouldn't for so many reasons. One being he was too tired to use any abilities and he was never the best at physical fighting. So unless Trez just laid down and took it, he wouldn't be able to do much.
His eyebrows drew together in confusion. Not as entertaining to me? By the time he realized where this was going, he didn't have time to protest. Hands where already gliding down his sides. He tried so hard not to make a noise, but he was also so tired, a little loopy and his sides had always been a little sensitive. A giggle escaped and he grabbed Trez's hand and tried to cover his mouth the prevent more from spilling out. I need more hands, he thought, trying to move away from the hand he couldn't grab, but there wasn't anywhere he could with Trez's legs blocking him from rolling off the couch. I've made a mistake, he thought.

Going into it, he was worried that this might be crossing some kind of line. He couldn’t remember a time they were ever this close. But the giggle that escaped from Taiki’s mouth soothed those worries. Fueled by newfound confidence, he ignored the male’s attempts to stop his hands, pushing past the weak defense to continue his assault.
“Oh, you do have a giggle button! Look at that!”
He laughed, vaguely feeling like a cliche comic book villain, evilly mocking his prey. Following the evil theme, he slid out from under him, doing his best to keep his victim pinned with one hand, keeping up the onslaught on the male’s sides. Once he was standing next to the couch, he reached his now free hand down to Taiki’s feet, in an attempt to further what he now considered to be the absolute best tickle war he had ever been a part of.
“What happens if I do this?”

It was so hard not to laugh, but he couldn't keep Trez's hands away. This is completely unfair. Giving up at covering up the noises he was making, he used his free hand to swat at Trez's other hand. Except it wasn't where it should have been. When did he get up? Now that he wasn't trapped by his legs, he tried to escape only to figure out he was still being held down. There wasn't much he could do while laughing, besides kick and flail.
When his feet were grabbed his first instinct was to kick. Thankfully, he didn't hit him in the face. Quickly, he scrambled to put his feet out of his reach. He hated his feet being touched, because of the scars on the bottoms of them. It didn't help that the only times people had grabbed them was if they were going to punish him for something. That was a long time ago, but the aversion was still there.
"S-stop. What did I do to you to deserve this?" He was trying to catch his breath, ready to slap Trez's hands away if he came at him again.
Before he could get a response, the washer beeped. "That would be your horrible smelling clothes you left to stink up my bathroom." Taiki got up, going the long way to make sure there could be no surprise attacks, and went to switch them over. From what he could tell most of the smell was out. They could probably use another wash, but he would leave that to him.
When he came back into the room, Trez was sitting back down. "I think I'm going to take a shower and maybe nap. So, if you want you can go back to sleep," he said, heading off to go shower.
Once, he was done showering, he grabbed his blanket off the floor and flopped on his bed. He doubted he would get any real rest, but every bit helped.

Even though it wasn’t particularly loud the dryer going off woke him up. Groaning, he reached around for his phone. It was a little after six. Chances were Craith would be up soon if he wanted to get here in the morning. Or there was a chance he wouldn’t be back till the afternoon. While he laid in bed and debated which one was more likely the dryer beeped again. Rolling his eyes, he sat up and turned on his lamp, squinting around his room. Grabbing, his phone he headed into the laundry room. Trez’s clothes were done and they didn’t reek, which was a plus. Not bothering to fold them, he tossed them in the chair.
The thought of waking up his sleeping friend crossed his mind, but went away quickly. Just cause he woke up at the littlest thing didn’t mean he had to make Trez suffer the early morning. Instead, he decided to go ahead and get ready. Today was going to be a busy day after all.
After getting dressed and brushing his hair, the latter taking a solid twenty minutes due to going to bed with it wet, he went ahead and made coffee. Sadly, all he had left was instant coffee. I’ll need to go shopping soon, he thought, as he sat on the counter waiting for the water to heat up. He was careful not to drop the cup this time. No need for a repeat of this morning. When he finished making his first cup, he downed it in five minutes and started a second one. He should probably make something for Trez as well. He didn’t want to wake him up, but It was almost seven and there were somethings he should probably tell him before Craith got here.
It didn’t take long to make a breakfast shake, even if it was a struggle to find something to flavor it with. If he ended up not liking it then whatever, he tried. Grabbing some cookies and a third coffee for himself, he headed out into the living room. He set the shake down on the coffee table and gently shook Trez. “Sleepyhead, you need to wake up. I made you breakfast.”

Trez, admittedly, was not sleeping very well. He was cold, and no matter how tight of a ball he curled himself into, the chill in his bones continued to almost wake him. He spent however long it had been since Taiki had moved back behind that door and took his warmth with him, wandering aimlessly between sleep and awake, dream and reality. His mind would pull in little pieces of Taiki’s apartment into his dreams, and his dreams had begun to bleed into reality when he occasionally found the strength to open his eyes even for a moment.
But he must have managed to fall asleep at some point, because he was being woken up by Taiki, his soft, warm voice drifting into his sleep world and pulling him out, the heavy, warm hand gently shaking him and dragging his focus to the outside world.
He forced his eyes open, though they watered as the light of the day-world burned his retinas. His gaze found Taiki’s face, and he carefully thought over the words he had spoken.
“Breakfast…? You… You didn’t have to do that. I don’t know that I’m really up for food, anyways…” he trailed off, trying to push himself up into a sitting position.

Luckily, Trez woke up fairly easily, which was a little surprising. Once, he was sitting up, Taiki sat down next to him and passed him his breakfast. “I didn’t have to, but you need to eat something. And I’m sure you can handle a shake at least.” He hoped so at least, cause he really didn’t want to make him another one if he threw this one up. He was already feeling slightly shaking from the first one. Though the sugar in the coffee and cookies was helping with that. He would still need to eat something more substantial soon, but it was a little early in the day to order take out and there was no chance he was going grocery shopping right now.
“Also, your clothes are clean and in the chair. I tried my best to get the smell out, but if it’s too bad then you’re either stuck with pajamas or I can go grab clothes from your apartment.” It would be kind of a waste of teleportation, but none of his clothes would fit him. Cause he had to be the shortest in his friend group.
“I’m not sure when Craith will be here, but I can’t imagine it will be very long. So, anything you want to do before he gets here?”

When Taiki sat next to him, and pressed a cup into his hands, he felt some of the usual morning tension ease away. He was still cold, and knew he was shaking a bit, but at least he was conscious, and he was sure Taiki would have complained by now if he had iced any part of his apartment in his sleep, so he still had control of his abilities. All good things.
“Yeah, I can probably handle liquids.” he said, laughing a bit as he sipped at the drink. He paused, his tongue running through the taste. He took another sip, making sure he wasn’t going nuts, before looking towards Taiki with a sigh. “You really didn’t have to do this. I would have been fine.” he mumbled. “But thank you. Seriously.”
He looked over at his clothes, and shrugged. “I can’t smell them from here, and I have a pretty good nose. They should be fine. You’re not in the shape to go anywhere, after this, I’m sure.” he said, nodding towards the shake. The only reason he wasn’t more upset was because it was a pretty “Taiki” thing to do. The male didn’t really care if others didn’t like it, and nothing would be changed by Trez getting upset. Not like you could put everything back where it came from.
“Well… Do you wanna catch me up on what I’ve missed? I’m sure it was an interesting… what, week or two?”

Taiki finished his cookies and coffee, which he needed to make more of, and relaxed. “I did need to. You can’t just not eat for two weeks straight.” Setting his cup down, he leaned back into the couch, giving Trez a look. “And liquor doesn’t count as food.” Especially, not to him and his unique diet.
“I’d be fine. I’ve had three cups of coffee.” Plus, he got enough sleep to recharge his powers. Though not enough to do anything to complicated. Not that he would need to if everything went according to plan. Deal with Craith, send out search for the mindreader, nap, and continue catching up on paperwork and ‘leader’ duties. Shouldn’t be too physically taxing.
He knew he was eventually going to ask, but he figured it would be once Craith got here or he had been awake more. Just later. Sighing, he tried to think of where to start. “Well, within the first two days of you leaving our messenger disappeared. We already have a replacement, but no idea what happened to the old one. Most of the last two weeks was spent looking for both of you.” He shifted to face Trez, his back against the arm of the couch. He wasn’t sure how he was going to react to what he was about to say, but he was going to find out eventually. “Also, a few days after you disappeared and we couldn’t find you. Craith...promoted me?” Probably a better way to put that, but he was getting nervous and it was showing with the way he was playing with his hair and avoiding eye contact. “I’m now the second in command and fake leader. Which went over, okay I guess. It was either going to be me or Rhys and nothing against Rhys but that probably wouldn’t end well,” he said, giving him a nervous smile.
“Oh, we also have a new member who got a front row seat to Craith’s recent blunder. He managed to find a mind reader. And who knows what she got from him and the newbie. But she threatened to sell it unless Craith can find her within three days.”

There were times he wondered if Taiki was completely clueless to how he felt about him. He figured he probably was. But it was better that way, for a lot of reasons. One of those reasons was this scenario right here. Taiki, perfect being that he was, had caused himself bodily harm to make sure he, Trez the walking wreck, was fed. He was sitting on the male’s couch, in the male’s pajamas, after having given everyone he cared about a terrible scare with his disappearing act, and there was no way he was making up for any of it anytime soon.
No, it was better that things stayed the way they were. He could survive totally on moments like this, just listening to him talk, watching him carefully. And if the need ever arose, he would protect and defend the male with the entirety of his being, as thanks for even allowing a mess like him in his vicinity, much less his life.
Suddenly, he was tuned in to exactly what Taiki had said. Sure, he’d heard all of it, but his sleep deprived brain wasn’t clicking the pieces in as fast as it usually would.
“He promoted you? Taiki, that’s great. Congratulations.” That meant his own place was no more, and he might very well be useless now, but that was okay. This recent incident had obviously proven that he wasn’t responsible enough to be in any kind of power. Not if his emotions could take him over that easily. But once again, he had to tune in, because there was more shocking news.
“A mind-reader? And Craith… Oh I can only begin to wonder what she got, then. That could be… really bad.” he said, sighing, and looking down at the cup in his hands. “I guess after he’s done yelling at me, I’ll ask if he wants me to help look. Least I could do, I suppose.”
He looked back to the male, and smiled softly. “But seriously, I’m glad you were the one to take my place. You deserve it.”

Taiki scoffed, "Congrats? I didn't exactly want a promotion. Being in charge has perks, but the paperwork sucks. And there is so much paper work." He never realized just how much there was. Though after scattering it all on the floor in a rage he had a good idea. It was a major setback to catching up on paperwork considering most of it was still on the floor completely unorganized. Trez was going to pitch a fit when he saw it. It had been so clean. Really his whole apartment was clean, which was a bit surprising considering he was drunk eighty percent of the time. He debated telling him about it, but decided against it. Maybe if he joined the search he'd have enough time to make it semi-decent. "Also, I was good at beating people up. I'm not good at doing paperwork."
He hadn't planned on sending Trez out on the search, but if he wanted to he wasn't going to stop him. "Maybe. I know Craith is going to look and I'm sending our newbie with him. Since he was there and actually knows what they look like. And I think Rhys might have a lead. Though your welcome to help. Just no drinking. The last thing I need is you wasted with a mindreader." That probably came out a little harsher than he meant it too. He was just worried. He had no idea how much information this mindreader could get from someone or if there was any way to prevent it.
He huffed, staring down at his hands that were fiddling with his hair, avoiding Trez's smile. "No one should have had to take your place," he said quietly. He was probably pouting, but to him it wasn't something to be excited about. He was good at his old job and Trez was good at being the 'leader'. He felt like he was just going to be fumbling around trying to fill in.

“I was never good at paperwork either. I came straight out of war, and into that position. You’ll get used to it, trust me. Once you understand the ins and outs you’ll be able to do it in your sleep. Hell, I do it drunk most of the time. Or… Used to. I guess I won’t be doing it anymore.” he gave a nervous little laugh, trying to hide the pain that had flared in his chest at the thought. He had always complained about the paperwork, but really, it had never bothered him. He had enjoyed the peace it brought him, where he was taken away from the darkness of his own thoughts, and could focus only on work. How would he occupy his free time now? Besides finding the bottom of every bottle in town, and getting himself into more trouble, which was the last thing he really needed. Speaking of his personal demons, the comment Taiki made about him not being drunk around the mind reader made another wave of pain flare in his chest. Covering it with another nervous laugh, he shook his head. “Don’t worry, I’ll be sober for a day or so at least. I need time to recover from my underwater vacation.” The silence that followed was obviously tense, and a quick glance at Taiki told him he obviously wasn’t taking the whole situation any better than Trez was. Then the bombshell, the big heartache, the pouty little side comment that just hit the nail all the way into place. He sighed, and shook his head. “Taiki, I don’t say this very often, but you’re wrong on that. I ran off in the middle of the night with no warning, not so much as a letter telling anyone where I’d gone, no phone calls, texts, nothing. Craith had no idea how long I would be gone, or if I was ever coming back. And we both know he is the worst person to leave to his own devices. He had to do what was best for the gang. I’m obviously too irresponsible to hold my position anymore. Like I said, you deserve it. And it will suit you far better.” He took another sip of the smoothie that was now beginning to melt. Carefully, he allowed the cup to ice over in between his hands, chilling it down again. “The gang doesn’t need a worthless drunk as it’s role model. They need someone they can actually look up to. I’ve held that position for almost two-hundred years, and… Honestly? I probably should have been removed a long time ago.”

Taiki rolled his eyes. "I doubt I will ever be that good at it. I barely understand half of it to begin with," he reluctantly admitted. Not having a formal education had setbacks, but for the most part he'd been able to get by learning as he goes. This was just confusing and to him made it more impressive that Trez was able to do it while drunk. As it stands he struggles doing it sober. "I might need your help till I get the gist of it." He tried to give him a reassuring smile, but it just felt wrong. Ugh, I wish I'd let Craith deal with this.
Every bout of nervous laughter was mild torture. He regretted the drinking comment, wishing he could not say it so he wouldn't have to hear the painfully awkward cover up. This wasn't going to be a pleasant conversation to begin with, why'd I have to make it worse, he thought. He needed to figure out how to make the situation better, but no ideas were coming to mind. Before he could figure something out Trez was going off again. Which wasn't helping. Even if he had a point on something, he was completely insane if he thought he was a good role model.
Taiki reached over and put his hand on Trez's shoulder, making sure he was looking at him. "Yes, you left and didn't tell anyone. And it was awful. And a stupid drunk decision, but out of the hundred years I have known you this is the first time you have done something this stupid. So, yes it was irresponsible, but that doesn't mean you no longer deserve to be second in command. The main reason I have your position is cause people were starting to get antsy with no one in charge and it was just going to turn into a huge fight for power. So, Craith told me to step in. And the transition wasn't exactly smooth, but no one died over it. If you'd come back after a couple days, we might have yelled at you and probably have an intervention, but I don't think you would have been demoted. You were just gone for so long."
Leaning back, he sighed. "I'm not exactly a role model either," he said quietly. As far as he was concerned there was nothing about him to be admired. He was only good at drawing, cooking and fighting. He was always putting up a front and lying to everyone. He was a mess and honestly amazed he was even where he was now. I bet he would change his mind if he knew all the s**t I've done, he thought bitterly.

“I think you’re an awesome role model.” Trez mumbled, standing up from the couch. He felt tense, and cold, and had too much energy for how little sleep he’d gotten. It was moods like this that he often soothed by wrapping his fingers around the neck of a liquor bottle. But the very idea of that made him sick, both physically and mentally. He knew that would pass, but for now, he needed something else. He downed the rest of the smoothie, and walked to the kitchen to put the cup away.
“Listen, this conversation isn’t getting us anywhere. I didn’t mean to upset you. So let’s just… drop it. For now, at least. We’ll have plenty of stress and drama when Craith gets here.” He sighed, looking down at himself. “I should probably run home real quick, to change. Cross my fingers I get back before Craith. But it’s still early, so it shouldn’t be a problem… It shouldn’t take me long to change. I should have plenty of clean clothes, since I’ve been wearing these for two weeks…”
He chewed on his lip, thinking about all the bad things that could happen if he wasn’t back in time. How much worse it would be. Taiki may even be in trouble, for letting him leave in the first place. That would make him feel terrible. He couldn’t do that to him. He sighed again, and rubbed his hands over his face.
“On second thought, and I hate to even ask this, could you just teleport me there? Craith is gonna be here soon, and I do not trust my ability to walk those few blocks and back, much less within a time limit. But, unfortunately, those clothes do still smell. I said before I couldn’t smell them, but now that I’m awake and energized, I think I’m just going to throw them away. And I’ll thoroughly wash your pajamas before giving them back. Promise. Even if they are going to be a little… stretched out.”
“If it was just talking to Craith, I wouldn’t really care. But I’d like to get started on that search as soon as he’s done ripping my head off. It’s important. I almost wish he would wait to tear me a new one but I’m not even going to risk suggesting that.”
