Congratulations! With your +1, you made a Low-Level Find! Prepare for Treasure!

You come upon an abandoned encampment, long forgotten. There are no signs of recent life, and the only item left of use is a an old bedroll.

User ImageIt seemed that Alistair had been right in his assumption, the lack of fauna tracing to whatever aura Gram had been giving off. Even he could feel it more potently here than back at the house. In fact, this was the first time it seemed to emit the presence it was now. At least, this was his first encounter with it. He knew the rumors and the tales from when the object first surfaced. Cheyenne seemed to acknowledge Rowan being a prime host for it. The white-haired man wouldn't worry, though. If Blake could stand to be in decent spirits around the thing, then it wasn't a problem. It was then that Alistair caught the young Knight staring down at his own limb. Was this a different occurrence for him as well?

After about an hour, they ended up at some abandoned camp, the only thing left of use was a bedroll. Rowan's obvious groan of dissatisfaction surprised him a bit. "They may have been killed by a nearby monster or viscous animal, if that be the case. It's not as though our trail has gone cold. We might as well keep looking." The young man's will to battle something, anything, was curious. Was that Rowan's true desire or did he perhaps want to satiate the Armament? Either way, it wasn't as though Alistair's desires were too far off, but he was a bit more patient when it came to these sorts of things.

Rowan was dissatisfied with everything. It would not be an exaggeration to say that immense hatred was beginning to consume his entire being, regardless of whatever demonic attachment may have replaced his arm. Nothing in the world could have made him more upset than this trip did currently. Not only was he not finding anything, but now things were leading him astray and getting him lost in the woods. The poor man had seen a creature not too far away from the campsite that hey had found in a poor state. After chasing it,however, the two of them found themselves lost in the forest with absolutely nothing to show for it. The animals were afraid of him, they were lacking any sort of findings. For the most part, his entire day was slowly being ruined more and more by these unfortunate events. As Rowan made his way through the forest, he could not help but spend his time reminiscing over his former life. These sort of things were common for soldiers after all. That was why most people found armor and weapons in the forest.

"The animal or monster that did it might be nearby he says. Great work there." He stated very audibly and angrily as he made his way through the forest, cutting down any vines or shrubbery that happened to be in their way. Rowan was pretty good at moving around forests and such, yet this was still a bit ridiculous for even him. The trees were so close together that he was practically blind to everything around him. Whatever was not blocked off was covered in vines or shrubbery. It was all just frustrating to an extreme. Rowan merely sighed after a while and turned his attention towards Alistair as they continued forward. "Just why are you tagging along with me anyway? An old man like you is more of a nuisance than help. There's nothing to really do in this forest anyway. Are you just trying to make sure I don't pass away so pipsqueak doesn't bawl her eyes out or something?" He commented harshly, trying to make some sort of conversation the only way that he knew how. Of course, there was no guarantee that Alistair would partake in this sort of conversation. In the meantime, however, he continued to make his way through the desolate forest.

Oh no! Something went awry, and the party has ended up getting lost!

Please roll a d20. Each roll will be an attempt to find your way back, doing so on a 10 or higher. You have three attempts to do this before you hit your six-hour mark and must set up camp!

Good luck!

Congratulations! You've found your way back on track!

However, something is wrong. Webs cover the trees surrounding you along with the trail. As soon as you make the realization: Three Colossal Monstrous Spiders spring into view. The ground shakes as they land. This is a Very High Level Encounter.

Good Luck.

User ImageAlistair wasn't the type to let minor sarcasm bother him, but getting lost was a bit of an upset. The forest here was surprisingly thick. He'd been out many a times, but this wasn't a section he had yet to traverse. It was frustrating, to say the least, but he just remained silent. That was, until, Rowan turned his attention to the man, asking why he'd decided to join him. "It's been some time since I've gone outside Carmillion," he stated gruffly. "They don't often allow people outside the gates without a travelling companion, and you and my wife don't seem to be too fond of each other. It had nothing to do with Blake, simply mutual benefit." Initially, Alistair had offered to come along with him, but by some brutish manner, he ended up being the one following the kid. This way was fine, but curious all the same. It was far better than whatever nuke would've hit if they'd gone with the girls. He was also extremely interested in Rowan's abilities, wanting to know how capable he really was of protecting his daughter. That part, Alistair decided to leave out.

When they'd once again discovered the trail, is was a bit of relief until the man realized the actual state of the place. That was when the ground shook at the entrance of three massive spiders, surely having their fun with whatever weaker passengers had been coming their way. Unfortunately, this would be the end of their games. With a quick flip of his arms, Alistair had his chakrams from the tight strap on his back and into his hands. With his icy silver eyes, the man glanced over to Rowan. "This is what you wanted, right? I'm going left," he simply stated before doing so. Without Cheyenne's influence, a higher-level fight like this would be a little more difficult for him.
The man charged in toward his target, avoid a venomous spit for one of the others. Without a heavier weapon, he'd have to focus on taking out their legs before doing any major damage. With that in mind, the man pounced, and with two slashes of his weapons, removed one of the legs from the creature before moving to do the same to another. The creature let out an ear-piercing cry before turning on the man, attempting to bite. Alistair was barely able to dodge the massive thing before swinging at its fang, hoping to render of of its attacks useless. This was going to take a while...

Great, now he had to deal with another person that did not consider him bright enough to see the ulterior motives behind their actions. He had actually been wondering where Blake had inherited that quality from, yet now he seemed to understand completely where Blake's attempts to hid her intent was born. "Not like it matters." He muttered to the man as he continued to move towards what he believed to be the correct path. Luckily, it just so happened that they had been on the right path and quickly found themselves aware of their surroundings again. Unfortunately, they were met with the sudden appearance of three giant spiders that seemed to be awfully hungry. The sight of them made Rowan groan slightly, remembering a very similar encounter happened not too long ago with spiders as well. It had been taken out quite easily but this was on an entirely different level. Rowan, of course, did not want anything to do with these things. Alistair, however, seemed ready to fight them immediately.

"Left? Like I'm going right just cause you want me to. I don't even want to deal with these things." Rowan thought to himself, watching the man run to he left and begin cutting down one of the beasts. He had some skill, but he was far too old to be fighting creatures like this. Alistair was using various different tactics to try and get the edge on the creatures, something most soldiers would not do. Mostly, Knight and soldiers tried to rush in and simply slash everything to death. Seeing someone actually have strategy was somewhat refreshing, yet it also merely emphasized the fact that he was older and less capable of fighting that someone younger. At least, that was Rowan's opinion in this situation. Soon, the other two spiders had surrounded Alistair as well, seemed to want to defend their fallen brethren. While Rowan seemed as if he did not want to do anything... something ached within him. What are you doing? He may be older and more experienced... but he's weak. What would happen if she lost more than just you? It was in that moment that his eyes widened slightly, and he gripped his blade tighter than he ever had before.

It was almost like a blur the way he moved, cracking off the ground like most Knights would. It was natural enhancement due to their contracts of course. Rowan, himself, was not willing to push himself past his limits to fight these beasts. Without Blake around, he was simply a soft, fleshy meat bag that could get torn to pieces easily if he overexerted himself. As one of the spiders came up on Alistair, reeling its leg back to stab him with the sharp carapace, something human-sized smashed into it from the side and clung to it, blood spewing everywhere as it hissed and screeched in pain. The creature began to move side to side, throwing itself in random directions as blood began spewing everywhere. The force of the impact had broken right through the carapace, smashing it to bits on the side as the sword plunged into its organs. In the next instant, Rowan had thrown himself in the air and came falling down on its face, slashing its eyes. He would not be able to carve into it without extra force. However, he could still remove its eyes, and that was what he did.

After cutting the eyes from the first large one,he used its body as a stepping stone to propel himself into the second one, the force of the jump throwing the spider back and tumbling it. Rowan crashed into the second one, sword straight into its face. The creature let out a massive cry, moving left, then right, and then it fell down. They key to beating these creatures was finding either a spot in their carapace they could pierce or using sheer brute force to bash through it. Rowan, of course, chose the later of the two. Standing up on top of the spider, he forcefully removed his sword as the the other sword came barreling by him, crashing into various trees due to its blindness. It was spitting venom everywhere as it continued to bleed out, crying in agony. After a few minutes, it attempted to climb up a few clustered trees before falling down due to lack of blood. Once it fell, it simply laid on its back and crumpled itself up, a pool of blood beginning to form beneath the creature. "What irritating monsters." He stated, blood spewing up from the creature he had removed his sword from and splattering his clothes a little bit. They were not difficult, especially if they were distracted with someone else. A person could easily just sneak up on them and break them if they were a Knight.

User ImageIt had been awhile since he'd been out in the feel, and he was apparently a bit slower than he'd hope to be. As he'd flown in to take down one, the others were already upon him. Successful in his attempt to remove one of the beast's fangs, Alistair's instincts kicked in, feeling the presence of danger behind him. The man turn abruptly, quickly enough to see the shadow of Rowan smash into the creature attacking him, sludge-like blood gushing out its side. He couldn't help but flash a bit of a smile before rolling out of the way of another impaling attempt from the second spider. One at a time. As the onslaught that was Rowan occurred, Alistair found just the sort of line-up he'd been looking for. With all his might, he chucked the chakram in his left hand, it twirling like a Frisbee in the air as it slashed away two of the three remaining legs on this side before sticking into the last. The goal had been all three, but this was enough to accomplish what he'd wanted. The spider fell with a loud crash, screeching as it went. Goodness, that sound is atrocious. Just as he thought he'd heard enough of the high-pitched hissing, more came from behind him. Alistair turned for moment to see Rowan taking on the other two at once. I'd call the kid a show off, but I suppose I'd be doing the same.

The white-haired man sprung from the ground onto the creatures back before launching himself upward once again. It had been struggling to rise again, but the force of his jump pinned the twitching spider to the earth. This wasn't the man's first encounter with chitinous monsters, and he knew they were weaker at the segments. Why hit the natural armor when they were large enough to go between? Breaking into a spin, he came down on the segment between the head and its torso, slicing it open and hopefully apart. Blood gushed upward, but Alistair wasn't successful in decapitation. It was dead, yes, but a good chunk of flesh remained. He glared at its stubbornness in death before separating the head and body finally with a kick and a "Hmmph." He, himself, had a significant amount of the thick blood on him, but it seemed that the younger man had destroyed two of what he could one. "Irritating indeed," the man murmured before running his free hand through his hair and fetching the chakram embedded into the thick of a tree. Guess I'm a little rustier than I thought.

Rowan was, for the most part, entirely upset with this trip into the woods. He had gained nothing from it, nothing at all. What was worse, he was actually attacked by giant, freakish spiders that he nearly had to push himself to slaughter. The entire trip was a waste so far, and they were almost done with it. Just what did he have to gain from coming here today? Tracks that led nowhere, monsters that ran away from you, and bigger monsters that ambushed you. What had to be the worst thing about today was the bedroll. All he had to show for all of his effort was a bedroll that was left behind, probably from one of the soldiers who ran off chasing a monster like they did. In other words, it was simply a reminder that he was no different from a brainless kingdom guard or the like. Just the idea of it boiled Rowan's inside like a lobster. Even his company was someone who he detested to be around, much like his company's wife. The only thing that made him tolerable was the fact that he did not speak at all hardly, unlike the man's wife.

Soon, the two of them were leaving behind the carnage that they had caused when the spiders had attacked them. Dead bodies were in pieces or scrunched up, all of them having been slain. Rowan was just glad that they had managed to deal with it rather quickly, not wanting to waste any time on the creatures. Maybe Blake is good look or something. Then again... when I was with her I got attacked three different times and only got twenty gold to show for it. In comparison, it's hard to say which of these two trips were more frustrating. He thought to himself, trying to figure out which he was more upset by, Blake's bad luck with finding creatures or Alistair's terrible luck with finding anything. Perhaps it was a family trait that they ruined the day of whoever they were with. Either way, he soon found the same tracks they had followed earlier. "Well what do you know. We ended up on the exact same path. I wonder if they ran away from those spiders then..." He muttered, mostly to himself, and began to follow the tracks that were left behind.

Eventually, he found himself at an abandoned camp, again. This one was a bit more elaborate, however, and was still, for the most part, set up. It seemed as though this was the final destination of those that had set out before them. Had they turned back, or perhaps they proceeded forth and ended up getting slain. Rowan did not know nor could he afford to think about such things. Let's just see what we can find here. He thought to himself as he began rummaging around through the tents. There was almost nothing there, most of it having been cleared out. The most he found were empty cans of food and lanterns. In one tent, however, he found something pretty spectacular. It was an elaborate coat that was white and silver. It seemed to be fairly long, capable of reaching down to Rowan's ankles. Unfortunately, it clashed with his usual style of black and red, despite matching his other features. Whatever the coat was capable of, he was unaware of, but nonetheless it looked splendid. "I guess I can use this when Winter hits." He stated putting on the coat temporarily before removing it. At least he was able to find something on this little trip.

Feeling slightly better about the situation, Rowan merely started moving forward and continuing their little journey through the forest. Unfortunately, their journey did not seem to be continuing through the forest at all. After about twenty minutes, Rowan began to notice the trees were thinning slightly and the ground was rising upwards. Trees were also beginning to look a bit different as they continued on. After about forty minutes the temperature was starting to drop, and they seemed to be traversing up a hill or something of the sort. It was not until Rowan broke through the treeline that he saw what was causing these changes in the environment. They had entered into a new land, a place completely foreign to him and probably Alistair. Whatever the place was, it was like nothing he had ever seen before in his life. It was boundless and covered with snow, even during this time of year. It was also very mountainous, making the area look like huge peaks of snow mounds that children had built over hundreds of years. The sight was breathtaking, and for a moment a look of someone who actually seemed to enjoy life appeared on Rowan's face. That, however, was quickly wiped from his face as he shook his head and looked out towards the distance.

"Good thing I got a coat. I don't think I'd last very long out in this kind of place without one." Rowan commented, picking up the snowy-looking long-coat that he had obtained earlier. This jacket was about to become very useful to him in a very short amount of time. It was immediate gratification to be honest. He found treasure and he instantly found a use for it. Maybe traveling with the old man is actually worth something after all. Rowan thought to himself. "Let's set up camp here. Tomorrow, we're going to be exploring that place down there. We won't be heading back for a while after all. This trip is supposed to be for at least a week." Rowan stated, finally revealing how long he was planning to make his sabbatical. Living out in the wilderness would strengthen him, and traversing new lands while doing so would be nothing but beneficial to him and his situation. Perhaps it would also give him something to talk about with Blake when he managed to make it back home. Tomorrow, however, might be a lot tougher than today, something the Knight was also prepared for.

User ImageThe two men came upon another old camp, though this one had looked a bit more put-together. After a bit of rummaging, it was almost as though there were nothing left, but then Rowan exited one of the tents with a radiant white coat. Alistair was pretty impressed at the find. Despite whatever magic properties it may or may not have had, it was definitely a treasure by design. The kid could have it. This had turned into his excursion, anyway, but it was almost as if he wasn't displeased with this outcome.

About an hour later, the scenery began to change. The forest became thinner, and it was becoming significantly colder. When they discovered the snow-covered caps, Alistair was absolutely awe-struck. He'd never seen such a place. There had been mild rumors, but nothing solid or believable. This was awesome! He chuckled. "Wish Cheyenne could see this," the man murmured under his breath. Of course, that concept would sound horrible to his current travelling companion. He was starting to miss his wife, however, at least a little. "Good thing, indeed. Blake would probably like it too." A little joke. Alistair, on the other hand, always dressed as though it were cold, finding himself being naturally chilly most of the time. "Camp sounds good. This'll be interesting."
