a pair of boxcutters & a blond

Chris knows Thorne is teasing - as is their way, their game, but for a second he blushes, cheeks getting a dusting of pink as he blinks at Thorne. "A blessing to this earth?" He questions, laughing a little. He knows it wasn't meant as that much of a compliment, but it's nice.

"Oh?" Chris says, arching an eyebrow. "If this is a plan to entice me to buy shots, you're doing a good job. I definitely want to know now."

He gives a gentle smile at the plants' replies, glad to hear they're doing well. Thorne is doing good and he looks up at him to see him pulling at his hair, gives him something of a wry grin.

"If you say so."

He's still dazed by the space, the smell of soil and the amount of green and warmth that is in it. He can smell paint, if he tries, but it mostly smells of life and Chris is enchanted by it. Thorne has set up what is basically a wonderland for Chris and he wants to wander in it, wants to run his hands over everything. Wants to garden.

Instead he turns to Thorne, confusion clear on his face. "Really? But it's so green here, everything's lovely. I cant imagine anyone finding fault with it. The outside maybe, but here?"

Chris only nods, following Thorne's hand to look towards the rooms and then shoots him and inquisitive glance.

"A secret? Well, I can't pass up and offer like that, can I?" He laughs, the sound lovely. His eyes are together, in that way when he's far too happy and looks like he's closed his eyes in joy.

So when Thorne offers, Chris steps forward eagerly and takes his hand.

"Mm, I think I'll have to take you up on it then," Chris says, voice dipping himself and eyes crinkling at the corners. If he could lean into the touch he would but instead he lets it ground it as well, warm and comforting. Reminding him that he's here.

"And not on me? I'm almost offended, but Algie does deserve it." He gives Thorne an almost incredulous look. "They're all crazy then, spicy food is the best thing on this earth. It's good for you too." He shakes his head then looks up at Thorne with something of a glint in his eye. "What I am hearing though, is that you'll be able to keep up with me at those spicy hot pot restaurants."

He manages to finish the essay, dropping it into a pile of three and picking up a new one but then looks at Thorne with something questioning in his gaze.

"Of course I would," He says, utterly truthful. There's something there he almost wants to push at, but he leaves it for now.

"Your voice huh? That won't be hard then. You have a rather distinct one."

"It's a deal then," Thorne responds with ease. His thumb rolls easily over the soft skin of Chris's ankle, absent and subconscious. The soft rumble of heat makes him calmer, makes his heart slow and his mind spin into a quieter edge.

"Well," Thorne says, "You are free to them whenever you come by. But Alg is important and carries a normal sleep schedule. I take pity on him by bringing gift baskets." His smile is soft and mischievous. He gives out a low rumble of amused sound. "Yes, that's what I tell them. And then they slam the door in my face." His eyes light up at Chris's statement though, and he leans forward, that cat-like grin stretching in amusement. "Is that an invitation then?"

His eyes are dancing and bright, the smile cut into his face with handsome curiosity. He tilts his head, blows a raspberry.

"I'll remember that," he says, thoughtful. His eyes dip. "I've never had someone say that before."

He shakes his head, and resolves the grin on his face with a laugh.

"Do I? Well, I'll be sure to sing a melody just for you if I ever get lost."

"A deal," Chris repeats, a small smile on his face as he returns to his grading, feeling everything quietly settle into place. Feeling whatever was on the edge of his vision recede, fade away.

Normalcy.

"That is true, he actually teaches a college class, unlike me. I just grade," Chris says, "I guess I'll just have to stop by more then, if you don't mind." He laughs, amused. "Oh man, I'm almost sorry about that." He turns to Thorne though and his grin is wide and bright. "It's not an invitation so much as a planned kidnapping. You're definitely coming along with me."

Chris tilts his head, lips making a thin line. "Well, you're worth it."

He shrugs but the smile returns tenatively, his head tilted back towards his papers. A tenth essay joins the pile - he's beginning to make headway.

"Make it a good one, or at least a loud one."

Thorne smirks.

"I'll hold you to it," he says, his voice dipping, sleep rough and fond. He watches Chris grade the way he watches stars, pleased and content just to be there. To be allowed to be there.

Settling more fully into a slump over his procured pillow, Thorne gives out a slight yawn and tosses his head. Millie sticks a paw up against his leg, a silent shut up. He wiggles a toe before it recedes.

"Well, if it gets you to spend sleepless 2AM nights with me, I don't mind that you just grade," Thorne responds, looking up. "Alg also has at least twenty years on you." He shakes his head, snorting, eyes lifting back to Chris with renewed vigor. "I'll hold you to it," he murmurs, "I could always use a planned kidnapping in my life. Especially for spicy things."

But he blinks, and his mouth opens, and he remembers. He remembers. He presses tentative fingers against the memory of Chris. And he -

"So are you."

His eyes flick to Chris.

"I'll sing something awful," he teases, "I'll sing something that will break your heart."

"Good." Chris' voice is just as fond, soft and happy. Reminds him of nights spent with Hyejin, of comfort and safety and home.

Chris watches Thorne with a laugh, reaches out a hand to ruffle through Thorne's hair. Bergie agrees with Millie's sentiment, giving Thorne a glare before he settles.

"I-" Chris pauses, looking at Thorne with something like pleasant surprise. "I don't mind that too, when you put it like that." He returns to his paper, something of a faint blush on his cheeks. "That he does and I am not envious of it a bit." There's a pause as he scribbles on the paper once more, a long sentence commending a bit of excellent writing, then: "You're getting it then, I'll keep my word. Sometime when I'm free and it's cold, I'll take us up to New York. There's some good places there."

He blinks up at Thorne, obviously surprised. There's not much he could say but he instead, gives Thorne a smile. Something genuine, soft.

Thank you.

"If you break my heart, how will I get you out then?" He laughs back, giving Thorne a playful poke with his pen.

Thorne laughs and rumbles as Chris ruffles his hair. He leans into the touch, butting against it like a cat or a dog fond of the attention, his eyes lighting up with fondness at the touch.

The cats receive an apologetic stare. Thorne will make sure to leave a cat treat or two out for them later.

"I'm glad I'm not alone then," Thorne says, smiling. He has a sudden, hungry urge to reach out and touch the warm spots on Chris's cheek, but he only shakes out his messy hair and returns to staring. "New York," he echoes, like its Neverland. "I think I'd like that. You can escape from the terror of grading papers, and I can drive us out to the coast. Maybe we'll both learn how to sleep for more than three hours for once."

His eyes flick to Chris, considering and soft. There's something different there now. A raw intensity, powerful in the appearance of it at the corner of his mouth, the color of his eyes.

He catches the pen between them, draws a musical note where the streak appears on his arm before letting go.

"Who knows?" Thorne responds. "Maybe you'll break mine too, and then we'll have to stumble out together in the aftermath."

He smiles, playful.

"Maybe you'll save me because of that."

Chris grins, giving Thorne's hair another brisk ruffle before finally pulling back. It's nice to feel someone wanting the affection and he takes a seconds to rake his fingers through the strands before finally turning back to his grading.

"Of course you aren't," Chris replies easily. "I like coming here, being with you." There's a rustle of papers as he shifts a pile over to allow it to grow further, adding a fourteenth essay to the stack. He smiles at Thorne, "The coast and more than three hours of sleep huh? It sounds like a good deal. I always sleep better around other people anyways."

He watches Thorne draw the note idly, a curve on his mouth where he sees the green ink make something appear.

"Maybe I will," He says, looking up at Thorne.
