Chel was unable to recognize Jaimie without the ... bunny bits. There hadn't been a lot of time to register everyone's faces in the madness anyways.
"Aight home slice," she said with a grin, putting the mop down to the sludgey mess. Slushie was surprisingly easy to clean up it turned out. Just took a little bit of elbow grease.
She brought the mop up to the bucket, dunked it in the water and then put it in the top section. "Alright little man, yer turn."saedusk whats gonna work? teamwork!

Monday - 1:43AMWith a nod of thanks, Chester shuffled off to the indicated aisle, returning with an unprecedented three small, dusty tins—black, brown, and blue—and a straighter spine. Whether the latter was due to some newfound confidence or simple surprise was up for debate. He placed the polish on the counter and asked in what he hoped was an unconcerned whisper,
"Did you know there's a man back there?"
He didn't add 'and he might be dead', but he was clearly thinking the guy was more corpse than drunk.

Saturday, 2:34 pmNot quite able to place it either, Jamie eventually looked away. There was no room for error this time, so his gaze trained itself on the task at hand and refused to let go. It was probably silly to focus this hard on helping clean up a spilled icee of all things—besides, Chel was doing most of the work—but Jamie had to make up for looking like a fool a few minutes ago.
Now was his chance!
"Oh, r-right!" he bumbled, pushing the handle and squeezing the mop and wouldn't you know it, it actually went well. Jamie did as good as anyone would given such a simple job, but he looked stupidly pleased with himself, anyway.

Monday - 1:43AM
Chel had been watching the store for two hours now. One woman had come in, gotten a soda and left. Chester was the first person since then.
Her eyes lowered to a squint. "Is there?" There wasn't. She began scanning his shoe polish. "Do tell."

Monday - 1:43AM"Yes." The almost-corpse in question had pale, veiny skin, sunken eyes, dangerously prominent cheekbones, and dark, shiny hair that hung to his shoulders like a veil. Clear as day. It was rather lovely hair, but that was the only lovely thing about him. "He's in the back corner leaning against the door of what I presume is some sort of mop closet, and he's... sleeping."
He's deeeeeeaaaaaaad.
Chester thought of the redheaded woman and the fountain; how she'd disappeared before his eyes. At least then Detective Mercer had believed him, or pretended to. Maybe he'd burned his report and put a note in Chester's file. Unstable and delusional. If he went back down the shoe polish aisle now and the guy was gone, he'd have to pay a visit to the station and find just how seriously he had been taken. He took a deep breath and tried on a pleasant smile.
"I would encourage you to come and have a look for yourself, but I wouldn't want to compromise security." His mouth opened slightly, eyebrows rising in unexpected revelation. "I'll take a picture. Be right back."

"Damn," Thorne said without heat, and went about collecting an absurd amount of sour candies as instructed. It was, in fact, quite possible that he could kill a fully grown man with the amount of candy he was buying. "If I die," he added to Chel, "I'm haunting you."

Chel internally rolled her eyes and said, "Nah man, s'fine. Everythin' big is locked up and s**t." She was sure there was some rule about not leaving the counter, but she also didn't care much for rules at 1:43 AM.
"Lead the way yo." It was something to cure her boredom at least.

Monday - 1:43AMOh. "Okay."
He hesitated, brow furrowed, wondering if this was some sort of prank but secretly hoping it was not. Ashdown was... weird. Weirder than he remembered it being when he was a kid. He wanted to know why. And if a mysterious dead guy in the 7-11 wouldn't give him a hint as to what was going on these days, then nothing would.
"Follow me."
Chester led her to the aisle he had been in before, but as soon as he turned and looked down to its end, his shoulders slumped and he sighed. Where the man's mottled, dirty feet had been, there was nothing. He was gone, or he hadn't been there in the first place.
"All right, yes, maybe no one's there." He hadn't missed her sarcastic disbelief, okay? "No one's there now. But there was a guy here, I swear." He strode down the aisle and ran his foot over the spot where the man had been, then straightened and cleared his throat, looking somewhere behind her and to her left.
"I'll just take my shoe polish and go."

Chel did, keeping an eye on the doorway in case someone else came in. They didn't, and when she followed there wasn't a man there either.
"S'okay man. I've had shitty trips too," she said, moving back towards the counter to let him buy his shoe polish. "We all been there."

Monday - 1:43AM"I didn't... I don't... or, well..." He didn't quite know what to say. On the one hand, being mistaken for someone who might have been cool enough to have done a recreational drug in their lifetime wasn't something he wanted to let go so easily. Just because he had never been on a trip that didn't involve a suitcase didn't mean that he wouldn't ever do so, just that he hadn't yet. On the other hand... drugs were bad. The other won. He was probably on camera right now.
"I'm not on drugs," Chester said, just like someone on drugs would, complete with shady whispering.
He took out his wallet as he made his walk of shame back to the counter. "Thanks for coming with me. And, uh..." He handed her some money for the shoe polish. "Pretend I wasn't here."

Chel gave him a look lik uh huh. Sure, before moving back to the counter.
"Consider yerself vanished," Chel said dully, putting his money in the cash register and dolling him out the required amount of money.

Chel cracked a smile as she watched the guy relax a little after squeezing the mop. It was kind of like dealing with a little kid, really.
She took the mop and moved it over the red liquid, which was slowly (so slowly) disappearing from the white tiles. She wondered just how much Seven Eleven must have invested in their flooring because of stuff like this.
"See, good as new," she said, giving him a thumb's up.saedusk ahhh im so sorry i didnt mean to skip you crying my bad my bad

Saturday, 2:34 pmA few more squeezes and a lot more work on Chel's end than Jamie's and the spill was gone, leaving the floor a little wet, but otherwise looking like it had never happened in the first place. For as freaked out as he'd been over his own incompetence, it wasn't a bit deal after all, was it? Sighing, he gave a weary (and somewhat awkward) thumbs up in return. Hey, he was trying.
"You're right... thanks. For everything, um, and for letting me help..." Taking a few steps back, he actually found it in himself to smile a bit. "I'm glad no one else was in here, though..." he quietly admitted.

"Nah s'no problem," Chel said, squeezing the mop out one last time before wheeling the bucket into the back. She'd have to empty and clean that later, but for now it could sit in a storage closet and she didn't think anyone would be too upset.
She wiped her hands very quickly on her pants before returning to the cash register. "Alrighty, you got yer s**t all good t'go?"
