There was a strange cloud of discomfort and desperation in the way Chel leaned forward. She wanted to know more, she needed to know if someone was like her, but she also needed Shun to stop twitching, to stop shutting her down. Connect without connecting.
And what resulted was her blurting out, "Me too- the reading ******** nailed it.

She tried to play it off cool with an exaggerated sigh but there was too much eagerness in the way she tilted her chair forward, into the conversation. "Dyslexic." Enough of an explanation by tapping her forehead.
She looked back to the computer to ignore any looks she was currently getting; learned behavior. "Can you show me how you do it?"

Closing his eyes, he just gave a sort of resigned sigh.
"Yes, that is the word for it," he uttered under his breath. When he opened his eyes once more, he just minimized his current window and highlighted an icon on his desktop.
"Simple program for the task called Audii. Install it, mess with the settings, and it will read out what you want with the hotkey of your choice. It cannot do jack s**t about text in images though," Shun grumbled. Can't bypass everything.

Chel didn't know what a hot key and didn't have a chance at messing with the settings properly but she could definitely get Chris to do it for her and that was close enough.
(Of course step one was stealing his laptop to do it).
More importantly- "Can you do it with phones?"

"Yes. Depending on your phone, there may be a built in function for that sort of thing. If not, Audii does have an app," Shun replied rather flatly.

Grumbling under his breath, Shun began to fuss around with her phone, trying to see if he could find the accessibility settings on the thing. If it did have some sort of option built in, he'd take several minutes hunting it down and getting that set up before shoving it back into her hands.

The simple act was watched with complete reverence for each and every single second. It was simpler than any number of workbooks she'd ever been given.
"I didn't know they made stuff like this," she said, oddly seriously as she held the phone like it was made of gold, fiddling with the buttons. It was probably the most genuine Shun had seen of her.

Chel looked up when he spoke, as though surprised he was still there. Then her face broke into a smile and she leaned across the table to yank his neck towards her so she could put a kiss on his cheek whether he liked it or not.
"Thanks man. This is ********' rad. I never been able to read stuff like this." Which was the closest you'd get to whole-hearted gratitude. She was already tapping sentences to make them talk, no headphones neccessary.

The kiss was something he definitely did not expect. And oh he did not like this sudden violation of his personal space. Quickly, he recoiled back, breaking free from her grasp and giving her a look like she was some sort of crazy woman.
"Yes, yes... whatever. Just... do not ******** do that to me again."
