"That's true," said Auguste, with a little laugh. "I do enjoy talking to people, regardless of what language. I just grew up speaking French and so it's what I tend to default to sometimes, but I had an American nanny who only spoke English, so I learned that as well from a young age."
He gave a small shrug of his shoulders, looking a little rueful. "I suppose there are," said Auguste, smiling across the table at Chase as he plucked absently at the napkin in his lap. "But I came here and I'm glad I did. I met some nice people, after all," he added, in a somewhat shyer voice than usual as he looked at Chase.
He felt silly, but he'd always been one of those people that believed in fate and destiny and karma and everything. No matter that there had been a myriad of other places he could have possibly lived in, he'd come to Destiny City and he'd found these wonderful, precious people and this life, as hard as it was.
A flush touched Auguste's cheeks. "N - no," he said quickly. "I mean - I mean, we...that is..." There was still no proper way to describe this. "I mean, it's not...really like that."
His expression softened a little. "The three of them have something far too precious to change, and I wouldn't want to."

Chase could think of several places worth living in that were better than Destiny City, but he could not deny that it did not have it's own appeal. Even if he could leave were he not bound by obligations, the man knew, deep down, that he wouldn't.
It was not the best city, but it was his city and it was not something he could give up.
"I never said anything about their relationship," Chase commented when Auguste got flustered. It was almost endearing, though odd to see. "It's not my business what they are or what you are in relation to their relation unless you want it to be." Though he admittedly was curious, he opted to avoid mentioning that.
"Just because they have something you consider precious, that doesn't mean you don't have a place, if you want it." Colin, Nadia, and her boyfriend sounded like they'd take Auguste in. He was likely precious to them.
It was then that the waitress returned and began laying out their food, he smiled weakly at her, then turned his attention to Auguste once again.

He belatedly realized that this was true.
"Oh," said Auguste, flushing a deeper shade of red. "I - the jailbait comment, I thought..." He trailed off, tucking a strand of hair behind his ear and tried not to let his own naivete shine through any further than it already had. He exhaled a breath and shook his head, and when he lifted his head, there was a small, resigned smile on his face.
"No," said Auguste lightly. "I have my own place, and that's where I think is where I'm meant to be. I'm glad to have met them, and...others...and the only way from here, and now, is forward again, which is what I intend to do, as best I can."
He could smell the delicious scents of the food wafting up towards him as the waitress set their food down, and Auguste smoothed his fingers over his lap. They would eat, and hopefully Chase would enjoy his food, and Auguste felt a small squirming of happiness in his stomach.
He lifted his gaze, looked across at Chase, and said simply, "Thank you, Chase, for today."

What a ******** tease.
"Easy mistake though, everything is about context after all," Chase said after a beat, watching Auguste tuck loose hair behind an ear before looking at the food picked for him. It was a simple dish but looked appetizing.
Arranging the napkin in his lap, then his silverware as he decided where to start. At the thanks Chase looked up, face startlingly soft and smile seemingly genuine. "Of course. Happy birthday Auguste."
That being said, he focused on their meal.
