Orpheus Solon

Since she had nothing else to eat the fish with she picked it up with her fingers to test how warm it was. Once she was sure that it was cool enough to eat she took a few bites. Rajani nodded her head when Chal offered to show her some posters. Knowing who to look out for would be good. That way she could at least stay away from the really bad ones.

As he seemed to tell her that the mother of his sons was alive and well she tilted her head. Normally she'd have referred to the woman as a mistress but being that the man wasn't married she wasn't sure what to call that kind of relationship. But all of that was forgotten when he told her that his leaf woman used a hammer! Instantly, fingers in her mouth to deliver food, she perked up and smiled at him. "Oh! Oh! Dad! I want to use a hammer! Can I meet her? Your leaf woman? I need someone to teach me how to use one." Rajani hurried to finish the food that was in her mouth then shimmied across the ground on her bottom so she could sit closer to Chalcedony.

"Oh please Dad! I'll be good! I won't steal from her." The girl had a hopeful look on her face.

Chalcedony glanced at her as she seemed to call him Dad once more... but he didn't really protest. She was a lonely girl, one that seemed to need someone that she could trust and talk to, and he didn't mind helping where he could. He thought on it for a moment, flushing as he said, "Ahh... she's not exactly 'my woman' but I could always ask her about it." He didn't see why not, "Just keep in mind that she might be a tough teacher if she does decide to train you since she's a tough woman." It was one of her most amazing features.

Giving a bit of a laugh he said, "Probably best that you don't steal from her as she wouldn't take that lying down... and I don't think you want to get thumped with her hammer."

She wiggled with delight. Even if the woman didn't end up training her she was thrilled that Chalcedony would at least ask. Rajani grinned up at him then, showing for the first time her truly childish side. After all she was still a child, even if she tried to seem more grown up than she was. "Mhm!" With that she went back to eating, seeming perfectly content with how things were.

"I guess I'll have to get a hammer to use." Rajani mused aloud. The little shifter had had one at one time but.. bandits. So now she was trying to think of ways to get her hands on another one. Granted all her ideas involved stealing from someone. "Does Sol have a weapon maker?" She was assuming so since it was a big place but she wanted to be sure. Of course the big town brought on another problem altogether. Crowds. "How would I get there without someone...." The last words were spoken low and to herself but Chal would likely hear them. Rajani was working her way through how to get past crowds.

Chalcedony seemed to consider the question, humming to himself before he said, "The one who sells weapons in Sol is located fairly close to the edge of the village since the crafting of weapons can be quite loud. It seems that they don't want to be too much of a bother hence where they are located." He gave a smile and added, "It should allow you to get there without meeting with too many people. You might want to also visit earlier in the morning so that you can avoid the crowds."

"Do you want me to show you where my place is? You can visit or sleep over, well sleep over when I am not home since then it should be alright, right?" That way she didn't have to worry about him even though he was the last person she had to worry about for reasons he hadn't really explained.

Well that certainly made things easier. If the weapon-smith was located near the edge of the village then she wouldn't have to worry about things too much. Plus Chal had given her a time of when to go so she could avoid crowds. Already it seemed like he understood her problems and was helping her as best he knew how. Rajani turned her head to look at him, still hesitant about the whole visiting his house thing. "Your.. sons won't be there.. will they?" It wasn't that she didn't... Okay, yeah, that was totally it. She just didn't want to face off with a male that was closer to her age. Heck she really hadn't liked facing off with a female her age either.

Blinking some she did take a minute to ponder his words before asking, "I can't stay with you there?" Was the house small? Or did he not like people staying when he was home? Rajani wondered which it was. Then realization hit her. "Oh! That..." She ducked her head and rubbed at her arms. "You said you wouldn't.. you know.. And maybe it's because you remind me of my father, but I trust you." That also explained why she called him Dad.

"It's hard to say, they come and go as they wish these days given that they are grown men." He kind of missed when they were small, cute, easy to carry about... though he suppose that it wouldn't be all that hard for Chalcedony to do so today if he could catch up witht he pair. Still, he did miss having a youngling about, making him consider the idea of possibly adopting one day since as he told Rajani earlier, he didn't have a wife.

Chalcedony looked over at her, "I didn't want to do anything that might bother you." He said, thinking that she'd of rather stayed there when he wasn't home or while he was out doing rounds. That she didn't seem bothered by his presence because he reminded her of her father he said, "I am sure I can find you a place to stay when you stay at our place." Maybe a spare room could be changed or something? Give her a place to sleep that she felt safe that neither he nor his sons could get into.

So they came and went as they pleased. Rajani gave a thoughtful look. Well, she could always avoid them when they showed up. "You'd find a special place for me in your house?" It surprised her that he would do such a thing for her. After all, she was a stranger and she'd tried to rob him.

With a full stomach and not having had proper rest in a while she gave a yawn as her eyes grew heavy. "Almost sounds like you'd adopt me." The girl smiled and gave a small chuckle. With her knees up she wrapped her arms around her legs and laid her head down. "I'd like that, Dad." Having a safe place to sleep. A warm blanket. Being out of the rain. Rajani closed her eyes as another yawn took over.

Giving a smile Chalcedony said, "I don't see why not, it's a good sized place and by sons come and go these days since they are growing up." There were often times when the place was empty save for Chalcedony himself and it was rather... lonely. It sort of reminded him of the fact that he was still quite single and the idea of sharing the place with someone that really needed a place to stay did sound nice enough.

Turning to look at her, giving her a serious look he said, "If you are going to start staying with me you will need to give up the stealing, Rajani... not that you would really have a reason to keep it up if you have a place to live." Especially if Keilana agreed to training the girl in the art of the hammer. Such training would be exhausting and likely wouldn't leave much time for such misdeeds... or so he hoped. Giving a smile he pushed to his feet, "Come, we will put out the fire and start back toward home. I can show you where it is, get you settled in, then you can rest up." He told her, moving to gather dirt with his hands, using it to smother the fire. The last thing they wanted was to risk a forest fire because it hadn't been properly extinguished.

When he spoke again her eyes came open just enough to look at him. Rajani would soon be asleep so when he mentioned "home" she nodded her head just as another yawn formed. While Chal smothered the fire she got to her feet and dusted herself off though she seemed to sway a little. "I normally sleep in the thick underbrush." The girl commented as her eyes went toward just such a place. Just from the way she was looking at it it almost seemed like she was going to head toward it instead.

However, she turned her attention to Chalcedony and asked, "Do you have a blanket? It's been a while since I've had a blanket." She liked the simplest things in life. The joy and security a blanket brought was something she longed for. Plus it's warmth and comfort. "Hey Dad, you.. you won't let anyone touch me while I sleep.. will you?" Just from the question alone one could figure out that just such a thing had happened before.

Chal blinked a couple times then said, "Well, I think my place is a bit better then thick under brush." He like to think so at least? Giving a smile he moved to scoop up his shield first, putting it on his back, then his pack next putting that over his shoulder. Once every thing was in place he motioned with one hand for her to follow along after him.

"A blanket and a blanket for now, probably a pallet bed as well could be made if you give me some time to get the materials together." As well as give him the time to build the thing as well. They were fairly simple to construct so it shouldn't take him all that long to make. At her question he thought about it, feeling that he would need to intercept the twins to warn them of Rajani's phobias just in case, though he figure it should be fine. The twins were one thing though, Aysun's horde was another. After a moment he finally said, "The boys won't be a problem but my son Aysun... he has an army of critters that follows him about. I don't know if I can vouch for them as some are more friendly then others."

A sleepy laugh came from her and she nodded. Honestly she could curl up in a corner or under a table and sleep just fine. She was used to that. Rajani stumbled a little as she followed after Chalcedony, her fatigue settling in fast. "Oh.. animals don't bother me. It's just people that I'm afraid of.." With her mind thinking of sleep and nothing else she seemed to be more open. "After being beaten for every small wrong doing, and being near a boy that that couldn't keep it in his pants.. people and I don't go well. But animals have never hurt me." The girl grinned sleepily at him.

"The Oban's have a beast, the Janarim.. they are beautiful. My master had one and she was a love bug." Rajani nodded her head at the memory of the beast that she often went to when she needed to hug someone.

Chalcedony gave a nod of his head, "Alright, then it should be alright then. Only a few of them actually come into the house since not all of them are adept at climbing." He said, thinking about those that did come into the house. After a moment of thought he said, "The one to keep an eye out for is... oh, what was his name, Volos. He's a serpent that Aysun says came from Yael. It seems to like to cling." If she didn't mind animals though she likely wouldn't mind.

"Janarim? Aysun has one of those, its name is Maw." Not a name that inspired confidence but the creature seemed to be friendly enough when it came to Aysun, "If you're wanting to meet with the creature I would suggest talking to Aysun, I'm sure he will let you see Maw and the others, he's quite proud of his army of pets." The two of them stepped onto the path that lead to Sol, where Chalcedony lived, and as they walked along he said, "My place isn't too far inside the village so you shouldn't have to deal with too many people if you come and go during the less busy times of day."

Maw sounded adorable! Rajani would like to meet the Janarim but know that she would have to speak to one of Chal's sons made her reconsider. Maybe when she was actually ready to encounter one. Her head gave a small bob as he mentioned his house wasn't too far into the village. With her fears it was like she was meant to run into this man. "I can prolly manage to avoid most people." She said quietly.

More or less falling asleep as she walked the girl quickened her pace so that she could walk more beside Chalcedony. Once there she took hold of his hand as a means to not get lost. "I forgot how sleepy you get when you eat for the first time in days." Another yawn. It was probably a good thing they had only gotten the one fish. Anything more to eat and she likely would have slipped into a food coma.

Chalcedony lead the way to his place, taking the path that seemed to have the least amount of people on it. It was clear from his actions that, despite having just met Rajani, that he was trying to protect her. For Chal it was a natural and very ingrained instinct, the desre to protect others, and the girl was the very sort that made a person really want to look after them. Once he arrived he pushed the door open calling out, "Chandra? Aysun? Are either of you home?" Silence followed his call meaning that neither were here at the moment, something that would have normally made him sigh a bit but given that Rajani was visiting he didn't feel as lonely.

Turning to look at the girl he motioned to her, "If you want to come on in? I can show you to the room that is yours before I grab you a pillow and blanket." He said, waiting until she was inside to close the door before he lead the way to a spare room. Inside was mostly different supplies that a family needed, various food and water on shelves, blankets, and many more things then could be easily listed. Despite everything inside there was still enough room, or so he hoped.

Glancing between Rajani and the room he mused out loud, "Hmmm... maybe you should borrow my room until I can get this one set up for you." He'd never had a daughter or woman over, and while he had sisters growing up his childhood home was far different then this one.

When she saw his house she felt nostalgia. Rajani had lived in a house similar to it once but that was a long time ago. To her it was a whole lifetime ago. When he called out the names of his sons she waited eyes slowly closing and opening as she fought to stay awake. Once it was determined that the house was empty she nodded her head and stepped inside. The change from the outside world to the safety of a house was instantaneous for her. She'd spent all those years cooped up in a house, and while many would think she'd want to be outside more than anything, she rather liked knowing she had the security of a roof.

She peeked in at the spare room. It was much larger than she was used to. Still she smiled. "It's nice." Rajani was about to go in it when he said she should borrow his room while he set this one up. Blinking she glanced from the room to him. "What do you mean? I can sleep in the corner there." She pointed to the small corner.
