The response wasn't that odd. The heat of his hands always seemed to work best with the chilly wound. His hands didn't feel much different, maybe a bit tingly, but considering how much friction he created it wasn't notable. "Maybe we can have a midnight release for the next trilogy in Heliodora's grove.." He chuckled, hands coming back together to rub again and then pressing mid back. His thumbs just touched the cool healing edges of the damage along Jeremiah's spine. Again the deep soothing warmth flooded him, even more so where the detective's spine was chilly and wounded.

Still speechless. There was a bit of a tingling sensation but it felt good, especially when Algie's hands were eventually pressing and working on the edges of his burns. This was not normal, it could not be. It was more than just warmth, some of the prickly pain fading away as well as tension fading. Jeremiah let out another quiet, wordless groan. This was far, far too good but this was easing the pain he felt as well as chasing away the chill. "Alg ..." his voice was low, but then he trailed off again because the other's hands were still working. While he could not remembered the time with the injury already, his body apparently did. With the pain and the chill easing up, his body was starting to relax.

He was pointedly ignoring the groaning of his name. Algie's hands rubbed together and pressed again, this time pushing against Jeremiah's shoulder blades and rubbing in towards the spine. The other man's muscles were tense to compensate for the continual ache so he did his best to work the muscles lightly out with his fingers. When he felt it was enough, Algie stopped and rested his hands there on the other man's skin shoulderblades, "Better?"

Jeremiah had tried to hold in, he really did, but those hands. He was silent, aside from the occasional quiet noise, and it was hard to not make them when he was the least in pain and warm since he had stepped out of other ashdown. Even the other man's hands just resting on his shoulder blades seemed to radiate a kind of warmth, still easing and relaxing him more. "Algie," his voice was still quiet when he spoke moments later, " I think there's something going on when your hands." Probably a better way to phrase that but his brain was a little addled at the moment from the lack of pain and reduced chill.

"Hmm?" Alg lifted them, looking them over, and then slid off of Jeremiah's half sit, half lay beside him (like the other forgotten evening), "What do you mean?" Though he did remember Aleksy, staring at his hand and turning it over and telling him he was 'incubating'.

Jeremiah stretched out, his body feeling relaxed enough that it wanted to do so, and rolled his shoulders before he was rolling onto his side. The detective was facing Algie then, a hand reaching out to grab the other's. His fingers squeezed lightly. "You hands are always warm, especially when you do that old trick Bob taught you," chiropractor father for the win, "but this was more than that. It was like heat was seeping into my body." Algie's hand was tugged lightly, laid to rest against the side of Jeremiah's neck. "I'm warm and my back isn't really hurting as much either." Then, because he thought to add it, "... and I feel very relaxed." Algie was good at massaging but even Jeremiah still had kinks when the other man was done.

Just set against Jeremiah's neck it was no warmer than usual. Not until his hands moved and his fingers attemtp to lightly rub at the base of Jeremiah's neck a moment. "Well that's ah-" His hand retracted, fingers rubbing together but visually and from his own feeling, there was nothing different about them. Incubating. "-interesting. If that's a power I suppose it's not terrible."

"Useful for me," Jeremiah chuckled, rolling back onto his stomach and picking back up the notebook. He was watching Algie out of the corner of his eye. "Better than the world making sure you don't miss or ..." He frowned. "Ah ..." Still not sure how to really tell Algie that he thought he might have gotten given a sense of self-preservation that he still was not listening to. Perhaps later once he was certain of that it was actually a thing. (It likely was because he remembered the feeling before Pax attacked and then when the thing had come up behind him ...) "It's just better," he finally settled on. His attention flicked back to the book, rereading it. "It's a lot to process. Things to think about, maybe look into ..." His hand reached out for Algie's and squeezed. "We'll need to add things in here about what I saw, the favor." If they needed more information, this could be a way to get it, but he was hesitant to even use it. The favor was something to be held onto for the time being. "... and I need to get another notebook of my own," a huff, "not just my work one because ..." Jeremiah had lost a week and had he kept notes on himself it might not have been as bad.

Algie himself wasn't quite sure how he could explain the ease in which he'd been finding books and information really. He preferred to let it go, unless the opprotunity presented himself for him to really prove it practically. "I have blank ones." Obviously, because he burned through them and kept old ones stored in case he needed them, "I'll give you one." If his hand was truly soothing, he felt no need to waste it, and when Jeremiah rolled back to his belly to read, Alg turned enough on his side to run his palm up and down over the other man's injured spine. "Just please in the future," The bespectacled man sighed a bit, "Try to tell me if you're planning on going anywhere or to talk to anyone?"

Jeremiah was beginning to feel like a very large, very lazy, very relaxed cat with the palm along his spine. It was probably unfair but Algie could ask him to do anything at the moment and he would agree to it. "I will," and it was a promise, "but I expect the same unless you somehow manage to wander yourself in there again." His eyes had slid shut under that warm hand and one cracked back open to look at Alg. At least he did things on purpose. No, that was worse. Turning a page in the notebook, he went back to rereading what was written down. "We'll have to do something, Alg," he said softly, "as ... I think it woke up recently. What they're holding back. It's the impression that I was given." Not that he knew what they could do, not yet.

"And Heliodora worries that they may fail, that it's why the rest of us have been dragged in." Algie's hand rested still on Jeremiah's lower back, the soothing aura lessening to near nothing when he wasn't actively making the effort, "Which means they could be lost... And at the same time they need to be there." Which meant Jeremiah may not end up getting them home like he promised.

"... or they've already lost," Jeremiah rubbed a hand across his forehead. "If they're holding back the dark but it's already woken up." He looked over to the other man, saw the expression on his face. This was not a good thing but he would not stop trying to bring them home. Perhaps if they were destined to fail then they could save them before that happened. The notebook was closed. "Fifteen hundred years it's been asleep and now it's awake." A huff. "Though we should stop talking about it." Jeremiah already had it's attention, still felt the slimy smoke feel along his arms (Algie had chased away the feeling of it down his spine). He was scooting closer to the other man, at least until his hip was pressing against Algie. "The favor I've got, Alg, could be a boon as much as it could be trouble ... It could give us answers."

"Could save your life," Algie's arm slid around Jeremiah's waist fully, enveloping him in a bit more warmth, "If for answers I just wonder how you'll know it's the right time or right question?" Questions had gotten them in trouble so far, asking too many to the wrong people.

An arm around his waist had Jeremiah pressing even closer. Some part of him was still not pleased that he forgot the talk about them but when this is what was going on ... No complaints, not with Algie right here and warm and those hands. "That crossed my mind," that it would be necessary to save his life but at what cost, "but as for the other ..." His shoulders lifted once in a shrug. "I could have taken guidance, answers, Alg. Yet all I could think was that the information I'm given could be meaningless if I don't know what the question is." As he did not put it past anything from other ashdown.

Algie didn't know what else to say. He rested his head a moment, cheek pressing to Jeremiah's shoulder. So many pieces to be put together and not an idea to what the larger picture would be. And it seems their lives could even be on the line. "What have you gotten me into?" He meant in the grand scheme, leading him here, but Algie turned his face and pressed a kiss to Jeremiah's skin before moving to sit up. He clearly didn't mind too much. "Drinks." He said.
