Jack muttered a, before finishing off his snack. "Speaking of, how planned of a party are we doing? Afternoon or evening? Are we just going to raid the cafeteria for food?"
PostPosted: Mon Dec 21, 2015 6:46 pm

Chel .... Chel had not thought that far ahead.

"You usually do," she said cheekily to the first part before putting her mouth back on her ice cream (mostly to buy herself time to think). "I dunno are we supposed to have food? I was just thinkin' potluck s**t like we did for Thanksgiving."

Afternoon or evening? Did it matter???? "Yer s'posed to be the planner," Chel mumbled before returning to the cone.

He tilted his head back and gave the mall's ceiling a long stare.

"This is a joint effort," Jack said when he came back to earth. "If you want it to be a potluck, we better let them know. Otherwise, we'll have to provide for...s**t, how many people have you invited so far again?"

And then Jack used the word effort and Chel let out a low noise of displeasure before cutting it off with the crunch of her ice cream cone, finally finished.

"Uhhh ...." Chel counted on her fingers. Abbi, Gretchen, Finn ... "Maybe like ten? Plus whoever they wanted t'bring I don't really ca-" She squinted for a moment, making the face she always did when she realized something. "I shoulda asked you first huh?" Seeing as Jack would freak out at too many strangers ...

She waved her hands in front of her, clearing the air. "I'll tell everyone t'just bring only one person f'they want- that's what people usually do right? Plus one or whatever?"

Her chair's legs hit the ground as she leaned forward, really beginning to think about it now. "Okay I'll tell them potluck and only one person, yeah okay. We can tell 'em we'll bring booze- that sounds like a fair trade, right?"

There was a reason Jack was the planner.

Leave it to them to not even think about food two weeks before the date. God damn it.

He opened his mouth to say yes, she should have, but then said, "S'okay. I know you know a lot of people," because it was the truth. Any idea of a small get-together would usually fly out the window just by the sheer number of contacts Chel had alone, and an important one like a wedding would mean he'd have to suck it up and socialize. "I didn't think a lot of people would show anyway," he added with a shrug.

"I can tell you right now we barely have the booze for ourselves, let alone for a party." Jack let out a sigh. "They'll have to settle for wine or some s**t unless they BYOB, I suppose...Also means we have to really get the house ready." They still had some boxes left about not fully unpacked, and several areas of the house had yet to really be defined or decorated.

"I can send Chris on a run, I don't think he's used his leave yet. Gotta start pullin' his weight as my maid of honor anyways." She didn't mind spending if it was for a good cause like copious amounts of alcohol.

She shrugged over the decorations. "Nothin' a few candles and lights don't fix. Don't sweat the decoratin'- I got two obnoxious girly girls for friends." Gretchen and Abbi was a pair she certainly wanted to watch together; they'd either bond instantly or vie for the top position (which they could never win because it was owned by Chris anyways).

Chel offered her hand from across the table. "End of the day s'me in a dress, you in a suit and an audience listenin' t'how much we loooove each other."

The last part was what really hit him. He ran his hand over his face before taking hers. "An audience," he repeated with a small groan. "I take it all back. Can we just say we're married and skip the party?"

Chel looked at him, incredulous of the words coming out of his mouth. "I'm the one who said we should skip t'Vegas and be done with it but you were all noOOOO Finn will kill me and ooh I want the dress thoooughhh."

She stuck her tongue out before standing up from the table, letting go of his hand in lieu of picking up their many bags. "C'mon, let's go get a tree 'fore you start sayin' later t'that too, Mr. Grinch."

Jack shed layers of the public off once they returned to base, though the unseasonable warmth of the island was practically an affront after that cold hop through the portal. Maybe some saboteur from Christmas Land would pay them a visit this year--preferably without the gingerbread Joy infection.

The tree itself was thankfully easy to assemble. It was while they began to decorate it that Jack suddenly asked, "Does it bother you when I say 'later'?"

Chel left Jack to the wretched tree while she took the much more manageable lights. The sad thing was they couldn't have the lights on very long or often due to the amount of electricity it sucked up, but it was going to be nice just to see it once or twice.

More importantly, she had an entire box of plastic mistletoe to get to after the lights.

"Bother? Like how?" she asked absently, more focused on the tacks she was putting up than the question.

"I dunno." Several baubles were hung on the higher part of the tree; his height came in handy. "Like I'm putting s**t off on purpose?"
PostPosted: Tue Dec 22, 2015 8:25 pm

Chel settled the lights to a place where they could rest without falling down, then hopped off the chair she'd been standing on to hang them.

"I don't think so. Unless you are, 'cause then ******** you," she told him, putting her hand on her chin. "Most of the time s'better when we wait anyways." Jack was, after all, always right.

She moved to the couch that sat behind Jack, facing the tree. Sprawling out as though she was in a therapy session, she asked, "Sounds like you got somethin' on yer mind though. Shoot."

He didn't answer at first, focused on making sure nothing fell off the tree while he finished off everything but the tree topper. "We joke about it a lot," he said eventually. "But when we were talking about the date itself and everything...I don't know."

He ran a hand through his hair. "That word keeps coming up with me; I want to make sure it doesn't become a bad thing."
PostPosted: Tue Dec 22, 2015 8:42 pm

"Is it becomin' a bad thing?" she asked him, admittedly with some trepidation in her tone.

"'Cause like ... I don't wanna push you and s**t. M'not about that." She had a memory then, a similar line, maybe even identical to the one she'd given Dawson.

"I don't think it is. Admittedly, you do have a faster pace than me." A pause, and then, "I don't know where I was going with that. S'not a big deal. Anyway."

Jack pulled out the gold star from the box and wiggled it a little in her direction. "Want to finish the tree off?"
