Her eyes were hazy, her mouth hanging slightly open as she "scented the air". When Deathcap offered her a shroom, she took it without a second thought, thanking the doe for heightening her senses. She chewed it thoughtfully as she lay in the shadow of a large tree, staring up at the sky where her purple serpent spiraled.

Soon, she felt her spirit lift, the dragon within her spread her wings and leapt from the sleeping goat body as she soared up to meet her mother; the great purple dragon who spiraled the moon. Her great wings carried her far, twisting and turning over the swamp as she followed her mother dragon, wondering where she would take her this time.

The answer was soon upon her as the thick scent of fermented fruits greeted her. The sickeningly sweet smell called to her and soon she was spiraling downward. Without a splash she landed in a lake of the stuff and on her back she floated, drinking her fill. Oh what a wonderful day~

To those watching her, however, it seemed to be anything but. for a while, Purple Dragon just layed there, keening softly and incoherently. her eyes rolling around in her head and her mouth hanging open awkwardly. They watched as she had suddenly jolted upward, tripping over her hooves for the nearest water source. She found a small pond only a few tail lengths away and plunged in deeply, thrashing about and screaming. Kin were worried and were about to go save her when she hurled herself out on to the bank and began scooping the mud right into her mouth. Those who watched backed away slowly, very uneasy with what they had just witnessed.

A giant moth to a firepit, he couldn't stay away from pretty does and their requests. And, it paid, which was more than others could say about their requests upon him. Blue Blood took a mushroom, and later found himself talking to what he assumed to be his father. It was the tail that gave it away. Then, as hew watched the discussion, he was forced to watch himself get chased by the ghost of his father? It was very comical actually.

Having seen a few bucks and does fall into the mushroom magics, a lone doe was doing her best to try and snap those who'd fallen into what she considered a trap out of their stupor. Yet after Blue Blood just began to lay and make soft keens she gave up, but not before she was left to se the buck become terrified of the stinger in his tail.

Thinking it was not his tail.
And hitting himself with it.

"Never let it be said," boomed Wild Green Stones, "that I am overly cautious with my body."

It was probably a bad idea for him to be sampling mushrooms, given that he already lacked a brain to mouth filter. Still, he picked the one with the widest brim, ingested it with a quick little gulp, and turned away with a grin.

Immediately he spotted a miracle. Well, he smelled it before he spotted it, because from his vantage point, it looked like a blob. When he moved closer it was clear that it was a pool full of sweet nectarine juice, though, and he drank his fill from it greedily. This definitely hit the spot after that nasty mushroom - its flavor had been far too funky for him. "This is great," he enthused.

But it wasn't gonna keep his attention for long. He splashed right through it to see the most beautiful blooms. "Oh, you smell wonderful" he said. "See, you're the best kind of flower. Your sweet, fruity scent makes even guys like me happy. All flowers should learn from you."

He spent a few more minutes just taking the sight in before he found a doe to curl up with. "This is a nice end to the day, isn't it?" he asked her. She was already sound asleep, so he decided to follow suit.

When he awoke he was muddy and covered in bees, and he stank like no one's business. What had he been doing - rolling in the mud? Where had all these bees come from? Where had the doe gone? Was that a hive next to him?

Okay, first things first. He darted away, and then...

He needed to find another mudbath, he decided. His mother would have despaired to see him submerged in mud, but it was really the only way. It'd help with the stings, right?

He sure hoped so. He had a word or two for Deathcap!

Part One

11. The trees grow mouths and begin to tell you a story.
2. A giant hissing monster of a snake.
6. A wil'o'wisp that leads them to a quiet sanctuary.

Undertaker's stomach was still not satisfied after having eaten a fully cooked egg over at Rise and Shine's booth and decided to snack on mushrooms too, since they are free. She looked at the doe at the booth who told her that she could eat any that she wanted.

Being a freeloader during this event, the acha decided to eat a mouthful of differently shaped and coloured mushrooms! (( Omg what are you doing Undertaker?! )) She munched away as she tried to satisfy her hunger. "You know," she told the doe while smacking loudly, "this isn't so bad."

Her vision started to blur a little and she shook her head. Was she getting sleepy already? Undertaker looked around and noticed that she may be passing out. She tried to call for help but her surroundings blackened on her.

When she came to, she heard whispers as if it was calling her name. Looking around again, she noticed the booth full of mushrooms, but beside it were trees. Big trunked trees. They suddenly had grown mouths by their trunks and began to tell her a story.

"There once was a songbird who was slower than any kin in this swamp. It had troubles making friends so it decided to make a beautiful nest in order to attract a mate he could call his own. As he gathered shiny pebbles and hairs and seeds, and weaved them into the nest he had build, it became so beautiful that other animals fought him for it. In the end, he lost his nest and his home because his confidence made him create such a beautiful nest that everyone adored," croaked the trees.

"Well that story was so bad!" shouted Undertaker, disapproving of what she had just heard. "Let me tell you a sto---- EEK! A SNAKE?" she screamed as she noticed one slithering close-by near the talking trees. It hissed very loudly and she trembled in fear. "MAYBE SOME OTHER TIME," she shouted back at the trees as she ran for her life. She knew snakes had lots of venom and she surely did not want to die so young.

Her legs felt like boulders as she ran. Her pace slow and taking forever. Come one legs come on, she prayed as she was still running away from the big hissing snake.

In front of her were glimmers of light, it was pretty, but painful for the eyes to see... Squinting her eyes, she noticed a wil'o'wisp up ahead. "Oh good, could you please take me to safety? There is a big snake over there!" she shouted at the ghostly figure. The wil'o'wisp hovered and glimmered and eventually lead a trail for Undertaker to follow.

It led her into a cave, which was rather cool and quiet. "This should do it," she told the wil'o'wisp. "If I stick close to the wall, it won't see me, since it is
so dark in here."

She kept watch from within the cave, and then felt a p***k, but there was no time for her to say 'auw' and she blacked out again.

Part Two

11. Bats fly out of the knot in a tree.
2. A broken branch.
6. A floating jellyfish that stings the hell out of them.

In reality, there were no talking trees with big mouths telling a story, it was just the echolocation that the bats had made when they came flying out of a tree in a massive swarm to avoid a collision with Undertaker. The doe was unconsciously going through the bad side effects from eating so many different mushrooms all at once that she became delusional, tapping slightly into insanity, where her mind played tricks on her. When she thought there was a blackout there really wasn't one happening, her movements were just extremely delayed and when she blinked her eyelids covered her eyeballs for so long that the swamp looked like a blackout to her. When she 'came to' it was just herself finishing up with blinking...

The kin that noticed her strange behaviour near Deathcap's booth got startled when she freaked out and started to scream and run away from a broken banch. They all know that it can't hurt anyone but why she ran away, they had no idea. Maybe she had branch phobia or something...

But the p***k, it was real. She had accidentally stepped on a jellyfish when it bathed in a muddy puddle to stay hydrated. If course the jelly's immediate reaction was to defend itself when stepped on and gave her a p***k, and many more thereafter, numbing her one leg entirely. It fled as it saw Undertaker tumble down onto the ground and knock herself out by hitting her head against a tree trunk...

When Undertaker woke up from being out cold, she had no memory of what had happened. The strange taste of the mushrooms however, remained in her mouth and it tasted very very bitter and spicy. The acha shook her head and decided that eating mushrooms to get rid of her hunger was so not worth it. Her leg was still a bit weak and she wobbled through the swamp with her three good legs while dragging her fourth along.

3. Flying through the swamp.
2. A giant hissing monster of a snake.

Dogrot was not one to hesitate when presented with anything that was ostensibly food (and a lot of things that were not), so, naturally, it gobbled up as many mushrooms from the ground as it could. This only actually equaled three mushrooms before the effects started kicking in. (Dogrot, after all, had been running around sticking its head in dirty pools and eating flowers, so it wasn't such a surprise that the creature's liver was already overloaded.)

Dogrot fell over with a soft thump and stared up at the gray swamp sky in shock. The sky had never looked so large before, but that might have been because it was usually thoroughly obscured by trees. Dogrot stared, and kept staring, until it started to feel as though it was zooming towards the sky, leaving its body behind. Suddenly this idea was extremely terrifying and it flailed around in panic, falling back down to the swamp and then flying increasingly rapidly over the muddy waters below. Until suddenly, it...stopped. It stopped, and a giant hissing snake coiled in front of it, still in the sky. Dogrot flailed its limbs useless, but it couldn't stop, and it collided with the snake and together, they both fell back down to the ground.

19. Your kin lies splay-legged in the dirt making low keening noises.
3. Thrashing around in chest-high water.
2. A broken branch.

Of course, Dogrot had really just been lying on the ground the whole time. Dogrot was no stranger to getting high. At some point in its flailings it plunged into a deep pool nearby, but what really got its attention was a twisted, heavy branch that had fallen into the pool, and now it found itself wrapped around the thing uncomfortably. Dogrot extricated itself from the tangle carefully and strode out of the pool as if nothing had happened. There was still free food to be had.

04. A grove filled with an amazing feast.
10. Three songbirds drape a loop of flowers around your neck.
05. A long-dead ancestor giving important advice.

A morning was not much of a morning without a first meal. So it was the Travels in Circles came to Deathcap's booth. His stomach grumbled loudly and he doesn't hear much past the command to take a mushroom. And so he does.

The mushroom leaves a taste of earth in his mouth and he frowns. What a poor treat to start the day with. He takes a step away, breathes in, and goes still. Another breath, deep and prolonged, and he nearly sways in delight. That smells like food. Lovely, delightful, sustaining food. His steps are light as air as he follows his nose to find a grove of lilacs. Between the bushes, a feast of -- his mouth waters -- apples, oranges, bananas, potatoes, celery, tomatoes, cooked duck, fresh-caught fish, and watermelon. A rumble tremors through his stomach and he dances forward. Soon he begins to partake in every food he passes. He's never tasted anything quite so delicious in his life and he indulges until there is nothing left.

Full and ready to burst, he steps away. The chirp of birdsong draws his head upward and he smiles. A trio of songbirds are sitting on a branch of a warm dark brown surrounded by the loveliest blossoms of white-to-pink he's ever seen. He whistles and coos at them. With seeming delight, they respond. And he laughs. How clever of him, he speaks bird! He launches into a speil of chirps and chirrups and then a long wavering song. The birds, of course, are enthralled. So much so that they begin to pick the blossoms around them. He watches as they weave them into a long continuous loop and giggles as they drape it around his neck. Such nice birds. He leaves them with a whooping coo.

He prances and waltzes, the perfume of his flower garland wafting upward. And it's so sweet, he tucks his chin close to inhale. A lightness floods into his head and he barely hears the voice. He looks up to find a kin. A doe of white-to-pink just like his flowers.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. "Hello," he trills. He gives a little hop as she laughs.

"Hello, dear. My, you've grown so big!"

"Just full from a splendid feast, I think," he responds.

"That, too," the doe chuckles. She comes forward and he has a sense that she is blessed. "My grandson, I have something of great importance to tell you."

The buck blinks. Grandson? Does he have one of those?

"You must remember this."

He perks his ears towards her, rapt.

"You're only as limited as you allow yourself to be."

04. Grubs.
10. You get your head stuck in a bush.
05. A friendly kin trying to shake you out of it.

To an outsider, the wonderful experience is a bit more, well...

There is no grove. Nor is there a feast. Rather there is a mess of trampled fruits that have spoiled. White rotund grubs crawl and feed on the waste. And there's a sick horror as the red buck dips his head and eats the first wriggling mass. Indeed, his contentment as he picks the tiny legged insects over the rotten fruit is... The wide-eyed stares as mouths pop open in a mix of fascination and disgust needs no words.

Relief spreads as he leaves the grubs and gives way to amusement as the buck stumbles. His head droops and at the last moment, he wrenches his head up and straight into a bush. There is laughter as he croons. He sounds like a sick cat, caterwauling like a loon. It continues until, after a prolonged song of warbling notes, he wrenches his head free. He has branches and blossoms wedged between horn and head but he grins as he wanders.

He rams nose first into Bitter Heartbeat's chest. Presses closer to the garland the stag wears until a light harumph seems to catch his attention.

"Are you all right?"

A fond, if dopey, hello is returned but the buck continues to press close to inhale the scent of flowers.

"Hello, to you, too." The stag's eyes narrow.

The words this time are too slurred to make out.

"Hey, snap out of it." He nudges roughly at the other buck trying to shake him into lucidness.

The red buck only blinks.

"Fine, let's just get you settled someplace," he sighs.

Ears perk. Well, that's something then, isn't it?

"Nevermind. Just lie down here and go to sleep."

It's with great effort that the stag gets the buck to lie down. Even then he stays until the high buck begins to snore. He should be safe enough now.

02. A giant hissing monster of a snake.
17. A shadow version of yourself hurls insults at you.
06. A wil'o'wisp that leads them to a quiet sanctuary.

She isn't usually the sort to partake in mushrooms. She far prefers to have all her faculties about her. But there are days -- lifetimes, really -- shrouded in the gloom of heartache and misery. Today is one of them and she gives in to the dark voices in her head that drive her to forget. She takes a mushroom and...

Ssss. Atone jerks her head up, glances around with wide eyes. Ssss. The sound raises her hackles and she begins to look around wildly. Where the hell is it coming from? She's alone here -- a sneer, even high, kin abandon her -- but the hissing continues, loud and persistent. She goes to take one step forward and her ears pin back, it's coming from behind her!

The doe swivels, hooves slipping through a dusting of snow, and her tongue curls against the roof of her mouth. A giant snake, the size of a boar, is hissing at her. Its shimmering dark brown hide is littered with white splotches. Between its voluminous coils she can see patches of gold fur and yet the snake's bulbous black eyes never leave her. She has the distinct feeling that it is hungrier than its current catch will satisfy. A feeling that is amplified as the mouth opens. Once flat fangs rise and she feels rather entranced as venom dripdripdrops. It rises up, up, up and lunges!

A shriek is squandered in her throat as she makes to move, only to trip and land flat on her face. She cringes as she waits for the snake's fang to pierce her hide, for its girth to surround and squeeze her to death. But it never comes. She takes a shallow breath, dares to look up. Expects to see the monstrous serpent waiting for her. Instead a bark of malicious laughter greets her.

Oh right. She's high. Yet it doesn't lessen the surprise at seeing herself -- draped in black fur and a veil of shadows -- laughing as though she's the most hilarious disappointment that ever did exist. And, fu -- "My, my. What language!" the shadow queen sneers, mockingly. -- Atone already feels the headache pounding at the back of her skull.

"Yes, well, it's been a rough day."

"As it should be. You are, after all, a monster. It's no less than you deserve."

"Says a past version of me. One that I no longer am."

"Oh do keep telling yourself that," the shadow mocks. And it's strange how light and condescending her voice is compared to Atone's own deeper throatier tones. So theatrical.

"There's nothing you can say to me that I haven't already said to myself," the doe volleys. "So just get lost."

"No, I don't think I will. You don't deserve peace of mind. You don't get to pretend you've changed."

"I have changed! I'm not you anymore, not in this lifetime!"

"You'll always be a monster. Just lurking beneath that pretty little mask, I'm waiting!"

Atone grits her teeth, tries not to let the words echo inside her own head. But they do, as they always have. And she laughs, even high she's a ******** mess.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. The laughter seems to unhinge the shadow queen and her voice becomes thick with threat, "No one will ever love you."

And she knows that. She does. But it still hurts. And she screams, teeth bared, as she runs at herself intent to maul her to death. Only the black fur melts and the shadow dissipate. And then she's alone again. A mess of sobs that crumble her to the ground.

It's after her throat is raw, breaths slow and shuddering, that she hears a tiny "hey!". She opens her eyes to find a light blue light floating in front of her face. She jerks upright, scrambles back. But it only giggles.

"Come on," the light instructs, patient. And slowly, as if one step takes all the trust she has, she follows. It is a quiet journey unless she pauses. Then the light coaxes her forward until she moves just to shut the annoying thing up. In the end, it pays off.

She emerges in a ring of apple trees. The inner sanctum is dotted with rose bushes and butterflies drift lazily as birdsong trills overhead. The sun is warm and the grass is green. The air is heavy with perfume of spring and she falls to her knees into a bow. A beautiful sanctuary. So beautiful... She rises to enjoy it. Or has the memory of doing so as she drifts off to sleep, seemingly, hours later.

It's not nearly as dramatic to an outsider as it is inside her head.

For one, there is no snake. Just a branch with a smattering of leaves that rustle in the wind. Which only makes the wide-eyed fear of the doe that much more hilarious. Especially when she trips.

One onlooker, sweet in disposition, moves forward to help. Only to end up met with distaste. The conversation makes little sense and soon the doe high on mushroom is telling the other doe to get lost. Even when the doe obliges, Atone continues to talk to the empty air. Until she bares her teeth. The onlookers scatter and when the doe drops the ground, sobbing, it's no longer amusement they find. Most of them wander off.

A few remain to watch the doe. And they watch as a floating jellyfish's tentacles drag just over her hide, she rises and wanders off. The jellyfish follows as the doe, also, seems to follow something. She walks and walks and walks. The jellyfish stings and stings and stings. Amusement and giggles ring out as the doe seems nonplussed by the stings. They share knowing looks, she's going to be very bothered by them when she wakes up.

"This certainly sounds nice," said Okay is Wonderful cheerily.

It was very nice. Or at least: the mushrooms tasted nice. Afterward she was feeling a bit sleepy, though, so she managed to find a nice doe to take a nap with. "Watch out for me!" she giggled. "Apparently something I ate might have side effects!"

Her friend did nothing but snore. Aww, sitting next to her was making Optimist feel all tingly! It was very cute.

After a while, though, her friend got up. "Hey!" she called. What was that her friend was walking toward? A giant flower? How romantic! She skipped cheerfully in her friend's wake. Mmm, the flower smelled so sweet! This was certainly quite a day. "Those mushrooms brought me luck," she decided, shaking her head at her...where had her doe friend gone?

Oh, well. She still had these flowers. Maybe she'd try to bring her friend one?

She turned around a bit, to see whether she could gauge the - oooh! Those songbirds were so very lovely. "Hello," she gushed. "Are you my friend's pets? My friend um - um - I forgot her name..."

They didn't answer. Of course not - they were songbirds! It must've been the mushrooms, making her think silly things and all. So those were the side effects.

They did give her a pretty flower garland, though! It was a bit poky, but sometimes you had to suffer for fashion. Her friend must've made it. It was a sweet thought, wasn't it?

She wandered all the way back to Deathcap's booth, in search of her friend. She couldn't find her anymore! But she needed to thank her.
PostPosted: Sat Jan 02, 2016 7:57 pm
"Have you seen my friend?" she asked Deathcap.

If Deathcap had been watching, she'd have known that no such friend existed. What Optimist had found was a beehive, whose inhabitants stung her repeatedly - she'd be feeling the stings later. She'd also probably notice that Optimist was stinking from the large, smelly flower she'd spent so much time near. And she'd certainly have seen Optimist lift her head out of a thorny bush and come stumbling back toward her.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Moon in Her Eye had no aversion to trying new things. Wandering up to the booth, she sniffed around the mushrooms before sampling a large, soft-looking one...

Part One
At first, not much was happening. Moon turned to step aside from the booth, deciding that she would find a comfortable patch of grass to settle on while she waited for the effects to kick in. But as she walked, it felt like the legs beneath her were becoming soft and sinking into the earth below more than usual. Upon an actual stumble she became frustrated, and when she looked down, she saw the reason why her legs felt so soft -- they were no longer her legs! Wobbling, weak, creeping vines were now the things that moved her, and she would have jumped with surprise would her vine-legs let her. For now, she just wanted to focus on moving to the soft-looking patch of grass she had her eyes on before.

But when she glanced back up to look back at this target, she was met with a more impressive sight. Before her, reaching from the blue skies above, a glittering rainbow was reaching to bless the land upon which she was planning to sit. The black doe was almost afraid to approach, but as she watched the light seemed to grow warmer, more inviting... Slowly, her viny legs carried her forward. She turned and settled onto the ground where the rainbow had kissed, and watched her legs slowly sink into the earth below her to root her to the spot.

As she settled, a calm spread over her, and she was less surprised than she otherwise would be when a soothing voice entered her mind. She greeted it with warmth in her eyes, despite the fact that she could not see to whom she spoke -- but there was a presence, she could feel it. She need not be able to see, for she knew that it was the MotherFather. Her soul had delved with her viny legs, one with Matope and those around her. The voice spoke again, a soft rumble in her chest, a sweeping assurance over her fur, and she listened. She responded when stories were done, she told her own stories, and felt she must have passed hours with the MotherFather.

Eventually, the warmth dissipated. She could feel the MotherFather caress her being one last time, and drift to find another place to settle. The warmth of light that was the rainbow above began to fade, losing strikes of glitter as it went. Her legs extracted themselves from the earth below, and her legs returned to normal. She sighed, feeling contented after her journey, and went to the booth to report to Deathcap...

Part Two
To anykin watching Moon in Her Eye's adventure, it would have seemed much more intense. After stumbling away from the booth, she looked down only to immediately scream that her, "legs are wobbly because they are vines! They are vining!" Despite the calm in her head, she was not so composed as her thoughts tumbled out of her mouth.

It certainly didn't seem to help when a tree nearby, apparently also having trouble keeping erect, began to crack, drawing her attention. She looked up just as the tree finally lost the battle with its own sprawling legs, and fell to the swamp floor before her, missing her nose just barely and sending a sweeping gust of warm, musty air beyond its reach. Despite the danger obvious to anyone else, she stumbled towards the fallen comrade and found a reaching branch with draped moss to snuggle up to. The ground beneath sagged with her added weight, but she seemed unfazed as her legs sank into her muddy surroundings.

From somewhere nearby, a crane emerged, apparently also believing that the fallen tree needed a friend. It cried out its sympathies, and seemed surprised when Moon in Her Eye responded from below -- with a cry that seemed to try and emulate the crane's own noise. It responded in kind, and Moon continued to engage its chatter. It hopped around the tree's branches for a while, the grey doe calling out despite it never peeking beneath the moss that hid it. After a few moments and many screeches, the crane apparently became bored and, tired of searching for the other hidden conversationalist, took flight to find a better place to settle. A few moments later, Moon in her Eye emerged from behind the mossy tree.

"Well. What an exciting bite of fungus..." She shook herself, a smile across her face as she approached the booth to tell Deathcap her side of the story. She wasn't even aware enough to look back and bid her fallen friend adieu as the tree continued very slowly rotting behind her...
