Rhys wanted to take advantage of the clarity and hopped from one stone to the next in quick succession, hoping to beat whatever mist was ready to creep back out over the lake. Luckily it didn't, but after a while (and quite a number of steps) the trainee did get winded so he stopped and took another rest. The end seemed to be getting closer and closer, and with any luck they'd make it without any other surprises. This place, wherever it was, seemed to like handing out surprises to its visitors.

Rhys was back up and at it soon enough, but after he was "safely" on the next stone something jumped out of the lake and tried to take his leg ******** YOU!" he yelled, mostly out of shock than actual intention to insult the thing, and expertly barely managed to dodge it by hopping straight to the step after it. That stone was safe so he looked back at the thing, but it was already slipping back down into the lake beneath, probably to wait out the next unlucky sucker to try and step onto its stone.

The next number of steps were mercifully uneventful, and Rhys only rested again once he was winded. He took the time to survey the remainder of the lake before him, then look around for his comrades to make sure they were managing along just fine on their own--this really seemed like less of a team effort and more an individual activity that reacquired a team to at least get inside--and when he saw that they were he looked directly behind him. The shore was out of sight by now, which was fine. He could, at least, already see the end...

Once he was ready Rhys took that next step again. It was almost a long jump so he had to land on both feet on the next stone, and that b*****d of a creature came up and tried to get his other leg this ******** YOU!" the trainee once again yelled, this time hoping to actually hurt the thing's feelings as he jumped to dodge it. After landing on its head and hearing an almost satisfying smush he took another long jump to the next step and looked back. The thing wasn't happy about his attack but it slipped back down into the lake, likely to recuperate from both his insult and his two-footed attack.
