"That may be true. But the clinical acumen and acquired skills from your training would still count for something." Kyle quipped. Although their fear shields and the bond they had with their weapons made hunters somewhat super human, it would be foolish for them to forget entirely that they were still squishy when the shields failed to hold up. That would be when having a trained first aider on site could make a difference between whether the injured returned to Deus on a stretcher or in a body bag. At least that was what he thought.
"Impressive. You must be pretty smart then." He nodded to Matt, an appreciative look in his gaze till the other hunter's words made him realise just how unprofessional he must have come across because of what he said. Lifting a hand to lightly scratch the side of his head, he pinched the bridge of his nose as an awkward expression crossed his features. "Sorry. I didn't mean to go overboard there and question your ability to handle yourself." He should probably rein himself in a little lest he got carried away again.
"Can I... get you another drink as some sort of recompense?"

"Movie?" Melody parroted, quite unaware and simply not knowing the connection. She watched them go back and forth.
When Maebe's focus seemed to fall upon her - and stay there for what felt like a very awkward amount of time - she started to fidget nervously. Even pulling out a small compact mirror to check herself and make sure nothing was out of the ordinary. All was well and she put the compact away again. Maebe's explanation was not hugely informative either but Melody still nodded as if she understood.
She even looked somewhat concerned as she tilted her head to the side, "are you alright?"

Nessa was trying to coach Creedence into gliding like a some sort of feather or whatever as she entered the bar, but the girl was having none of it. The outfit was bad enough. Like it looked cool, Chantelle had done a really stellar job with Nessa giving delighted suggestions, but Creedence wasn't sure she liked being sexy. She was pretty sure she hated being a vampire noble, like it wasn't her preferred race at all. And she was definitely sure she didn't like the way it felt like her ribs were being forcefully mutated into boob formation for the sake of cleavage. In all honesty, even though it was Halloween when this sort of thing was given a pass, Creedence felt stupidly naked even draped in layers if satin and lace and makeup as she was. Seeing Dawson cornered by not just Maebe but some other girl she didn't know, Creedence rolled her eyes, felt vaguely relieved, settled for waving hello to them and then made a beeline for the bar. "You guys really, really, really don't card right?"

He gave Melody a wide-eyed look and was going to suggest that at some point they force Big Hero 6 on her, but her nervous behavior made him put it off for a moment. "Been a rough couple a'weeks," he explained, trying to subtly prop Maebe up against him so she didn't feel inclined to smack her head on something else. "But we here t'have fun n' let loose, yeah? I'm thinkin' we should do some karaoke 'fore the night gets gone."
As he picked up his beer to try and add some social lubrication, he spotted Creedence waving and enthusiastically returned it, beckoning her over. Was it a good idea with Maebe around? Probably not. But Dawson was one for the more the merrier. And who knew, maybe holiday magic would make it so that nothing would explode this time.
"Heyo, girl! Watcha supposed t'be?"

Ever went very still at the hands on his shoulders, startled by the touch, maybe just a little worried -- and then relaxed again, half tipping his head to look back at Zeke with an eyebrow raised and his own expression appraising. After a moment, he smiled, a bright flash of teeth in his face, and held up his beer in one hand. Cocky, right now. Maybe the outfit brought it out of him, or maybe he'd already had enough to drink -- "...you look great, but I think I win this round, Zeke." And with that, he drank, long gulps to finish his beer and put it down again. He'd need a new one. And Zeke needed one anyway. "Drinks?" 303 words

She wished she'd kept her head on the table. The sight of Creedence joining the party reminded her that she really didn't want to be here, and there was only so much Maebe could take - even sober. Being that she was less than capable of handling her liquor, she decided it was for the best if she tried to leave. The emphasis, of course, was on the word tried. "I'm fine, God, I'm fine. I think-" Maebe pushed her hands down on the table and tried to use it as leverage to stand up. Instead, she managed about an inch before her arms gave in and she plopped back down on the seat. "Help me out of this ******** chair, I'm done. Stick a fork in me." She tried to push herself up again, failed, and began to slowly, inch by inch, slide down off of the seat and under the table. Well, maybe this would have to do.

Feeling incredibly adult in the cool way as she carried her drink from the bar, Creedence was ready to awkwardly hug the walls until she found someone to harass and pretend she was cool around, but Dawson merrily flagged her down. Her answered grimace revealed Creedence's pointy little fang caps. "Nessa, my weapon. She's like a vampire countess or whatever." Creedence shrugged, tilting her head to get a better look at Maebe. "It was an easy costume." Well, maybe not to wear. "You look like some frat guy." Her brow furrowed at the blonde's antics. "I thought you'd be better at the," vague wave, "...party thing. Did you start early? Are you going to puke?"

"I won't even argue that." There wouldn't be a point. Next to naked definitely won. The Mist shook his head again, laughing, before raising brows at Ever as the taller man drained the latter half of the beer in his hand, then voiced a desire for more. "How much have you had already?" It was light, amused and curious, rather than worried or judgmental Zeke didn't care how much Ever drank, but he liked to know how intoxicated the other man was likely to get before the end of the night. Not so much, yet, that they couldn't get more though. So he flagged the man with the tray down, grabbing a couple of drinks and handing one over. "I didn't know we were competing, but if you won, what's the prize?" Another arch of brows as he took a drink from his beer.

“Yes.” Matt chuckled as he gulped from his drink; at this point most of it was gone as he tried to look out to flag someone down for another. “It’s why I am in the infirmary, and moon.” To be fair he was also very interested in the whole fear shield and the super human ability gained from weapons. That however, was more of a lifer subject and despite curiosity he didn’t have an interest in it cutting into his hours of infirmary work. There was enough work dealing with the squishy humans that he didn’t need to find even more work to deal with at Deus. Matt shook his head commented on his intelligence. “Not really, I was just fortunate. My father was a doctor and I learned a lot from him. I also spent a lot of time studying and didn’t really have a whole lot of free time for anything else.” College life had been wasted on him. He raised his hand and gave a waving dismal. “It’s ok. It would have been worse if you hadn’t showed any sort of care. As for a drink, I’ll take another scotch on the rocks please.” Despite letting the question go he wasn’t going to let a free drink slip out of his fingers, not when someone like Kyle was offering.

Melody watched the newcomer curiously. Perking up just a bit as she approached. She looked between her and Dawson expectantly but when no introduction came she smiled brightly at them instead, "I really really like your costume. I almost wish my weapon was a vampire."
She paused with a sudden frown as Whisper grumbled irritably.
"I said almost," she assured audibly.
She glanced to where Maebe had been and her frown deepened. "Are you going to pass out? It's okay if you are, just the heads up would be greatly appreciated."
Was this normal for people on the island? She glanced around the room. She was pretty sure this was not normal.

He beamed like frat guy was a compliment. "Chimera frat guy, yeah. Syn's a Greek monster, so I figured this'd be genius! She didn't complain." With his beer in hand and easily chugged, he certainly looked like the bar could have been a frat house. "Y'look awesome, though! Nice touch with the fangs. Uh, Melody, this is Creedence! Also cool people."
With his mug finished, he set it aside and crouched to try and help Maebe out from under the table. "F'ya puke now, yer weaaaaak," he murmured to her. "C'mon, let's make friends t'night. These're nice gals."

The compliments had Creedence shifting uncomfortably, awkwardly trying to look cool while nonchalantly using one arm to cover her chest. "Uh, thanks, yeah! Yours looks really cool too, some really classy cosplay!" She nodded at purple haired girl, assuming she was dressed up as someone from a game or anime. At Dawson's comment, Creedence scowled a bit, "Me and Maebe are already friends. Anyway I should like..." She was going to say go, but go where exactly? Instead of finishing she took a long pull from her drink. Not that she wanted to get drunk but it was just like, there.

"So I see." Kyle downed what remained of his drink with a grin. "I think that you're just being humble. I worked my a** off too. Yet I can't even make it into the top ten percent of my cohort." He laughed, not in any way self conscientious at all about sharing that part of his past with Matt. Even if the attempt at getting his point across to the Moon came at the expense of making him look bad.
Getting up from his seat, the Sun made his way through the crowd to the counter, returning a couple of minutes later with four glasses atop a tray which he set down on the table. "Here you go. One scotch on the rocks." He slid a glass over then another that contained some ice in a colourless liquid. "I thought I'll get us some water as well so we wouldn't get dehydrated later."

Ever snorted at the question, dragging fingers across his eyebrow and surveying the crowd in a blurry, squinty kind of way -- his head cocked to the side as he tried to pick out familiar faces. Here and there, but people all seemed engaged in the party and he, in contrast, oddly unengaged. Too much time spent by himself; it killed the easy way he usually stepped into social interaction. He puffed out a breath and refocused on Zeke to take a drink from him. "I thought people were staring at me, at first, but I think the novelty's worn off, now. Although..." He leaned in just a little, tapping two fingers against Zeke's shoulder as he did. "I'm pretty sure Shu grabbed my a**." An exaggeration. But it made his eyes go brighter, amused. 438 words
