House Visit
He tried snatch her backpack, but she was too quick. Jack scrambled after her, but it was too late; at the end of the hallway, Chel hit his room.
It didn't stop him from making another grab at her backpack anyway once he caught up. he growled.

House Visit
Chel gasped just as loudly at his room as she did the kitchen the week before. Everything was so nice but somehow still so incredibly not what she expected. Jack Hawthorn, king of freshman class was expected to have a nerdy, neat bedroom not a normal teenager's emo pit. She snorted at the posters, mostly because one of them (an MCR poster) was actually hanging in her room as well.
She slipped out of the backpack as easily as he'd grabbed it, pacing to the bed and throwing herself on it. Comfy as ********. "Ah man I was expecting nerdy gay s**t like dinosaurs and spaceships." She spread herself out and stretched slightly like the cat she was; already at home. "I like it actually."
In being so at home, Chel decided to tell anyways; he would find out sooner or later the more they did this and it was getting to be a pain having to dodge around questions like How was the homework?
Yet she was still hesitant, quiet when she said it. "I'm dyslexic." Was that the first time she'd ever said it out loud to someone other than Chris? She supposed after five months she was supposed to have gotten used to it, and yet-
"So it's kind of pointless." She closed her eyes for a moment, marveling at how his bed felt like air. Hers was like ******** cardboard. "Sorry t'disappoint."
It was a large admission from Chel, yet she opened her eyes and already bounced to the next point, the more important one: "Yo so like you ******** Lina on this bed or you go to her place man?"

Dyslexic allowed her extra time on the bed as he processed it. Mainly, was tutoring pointless now, had it always been? He only knew a scant amount in passing, that it was switching letters and numbers or some s**t, which would definitely explain the backwards writing. But if that wasn't getting fixed any time soon, then what was the point?
(That was no doubt something she'd toted about herself, he realized.)
"Neither, not that it's any of your business. Now get off," Jack ordered as he reached to grab Chel's arm. "We still have s**t to do."

Chel's gears clicked together with Stormy's trepidation earlier. "Have you two not ... done it?" Ah yes, teenage vocabulary. She threw her head back in a laugh even as he attempted to scoot her off the bed. "Oh my god- most popular guy in Westside High's a virgin?"
Somehow that was funnier than Stormy's response, which was dodgy at best. She stuck to this topic, because the longer they were on this topic the longer she could keep from having to explain "no I can't read it" and "I don't know what that says."
"Aw c'mon," she said, swatting away his hand. "I just got here I-" Her eyes finally fell on the blackish instrument, lips escaping another dramatic gasp. "You play or s'at just for picking up chicks?" Eyes went back to him. "Play something!"

Jack immediately regretted answering and glared as he flared up. "Not everyone's a whore like you, so shut the <********> up and get out of my room," he snapped, moving to grab her shirt instead. He'd drag Chel out if he had to.
He froze when he heard the muted sounds of the garage opening. Someone was home early.

Chel's demeanor moved from mischievous antagonizing to confused apathy and finally settled on understanding.
"Where's the closest exit? I can climb stuff too." She no longer resisted his pull but instead reached for her backpack and slung it across her shoulders dutifully.

He was torn between telling her what to do and being surprised (grateful, suspicious) at the 180. "Not throwing you out," Jack settled on, keeping a grip on her shoulder as he led her down the stairs quickly. He didn't know which parent it was, so it was better not to try sneaking; showing them what he was up to (or was supposed to be, anyway) was the best solution.
Thankfully whoever it was was taking their time, allowing them to get back to the table. "Just take a seat and pretend," he said as he let her shoulder go. "Don't say anything." Because if it happened to be--
"Jack? I have some things I need help taking out."
He huffed and left Chel alone at the table. Soon he returned with several bags of groceries and a new potted plant in his arms. His mother (sharply dressed, dark hair tied back in a bun, sweetly smelling, frowning at something on her phone) followed suit with another hanging off her arm as well. She didn't seem to notice Chel.
"I thought you had practice today."
"Mondays and Wednesdays," Jack replied with well-worn patience as he set everything down in the kitchen. "Today is for tutoring."
It was when she was looking up to ask him something else that she realized someone else was there. (The poker face she wore must have been genetic with how familiar it would look later.)
"The tutoring center was too busy to concentrate there," Jack offered before the question was asked, though he ducked his head anyway in a quick apology. "I offered her to come over instead."
"Sweet of you. Did you--" Her phone buzzed. The frowning returned. "Excuse me." Click click click went the heels as his mother went into another room to take the call. Only when she was clear of them did Jack heave a sigh.
"She's not normally here so early," he muttered as he ran a hand through his hair. "Christ." Looking to Chel, he said, "Look, dyslexia sucks, I get it, but grades are still gonna happen. Do you want to keep doing this, or should we just find the counselor?"

Chel allowed herself to be lead, a ragdoll on the tether of Jack's hand. She sat when told, was quiet when told. She knew all to well the importance of instructions when it came to parents.
But when the lady walked in, Chel wasn't sure why the hell Jack was so scared. The woman was gorgeous (in the sort of "you're fourty years older than me so not like that but I can still think you're pretty" kind of way) and while her expression was ugly, Chel didn't find anything particularly incriminating about their conversation. Maybe it was because they were in the presence of company, but the woman didn't seem to scared her.
When affixed by her gaze, Chel gave a little half-hearted wave and went back to pretending her notes were very important. She did crack a smile at "I offered her to come over instead" when that was entirely untrue. Sneaky b*****d.
She made a face at I get it because no Jack Hawthorn, no you did not, but it wasn't the time or the place. "I don't care," she said earnestly. Tutoring or not her grades were going to come out as F's. "But it is the most fun I've had gettin' tutored. Sneaking around all mission impossible." She wiggled her fingers for effect.

Another sigh. Of course she didn't care, regardless of all his efforts.
"We weren't sneaking," he argued as his own phone went off next. (From Lina: Wanna hang out at this new cafe tomorrow? You can critic their coffee~ lol XD) "You were being a pain in the a**."
He took a moment to think. Letting her go would ruin his good streak which, petty as it was, he liked to keep. Letting her go would also mean more free time, though. But at the same time, did he need it? He was pretty on top of things even with the schedule he had. And she was strangely entertaining, when she wasn't being difficult.
"Goals and rewards," Jack thought aloud. "That's the best way to motivate someone." He took a seat and looked at his options. "How about...You get at least a C on the next test, and I'll play something for you."

"Mmm so yer bribing me now? 'As more like it," she said idly, lazy smile on her face. "You wanna spend time with me so bad you're offering the guitar?"
She put her hands behind her head. "Ain't never gonna get a C though." She blinked a few times, realizing she was slipping. Well it was okay to slip a little in right? One "ain't" wouldn't give the country bumpkin away. "How about a D?"

Rumor Has it
Rumors had begun milling around school. Chel was already the slut, but now Marcel had told Sarah had heard from James that heard from a reliable source that Chel was going to the venerable Jack Hawthorn's house every Tuesday and had once been seen entering with some kind of can-shaped foregin object.
So they were definitely banging behind Lina's back.

His brows raised at the ain't, and for a moment he remembered that the teacher had never exactly said where Chel had transferred from.
"Maybe. If you don't draw anything on the test and give legitimate answers," he countered. "Barbara doesn't come cheap."
---
Rumor Has It
"He said what?"
"Jack, hey," Lina touched his arm, "don't. I know they're not true, that's what matters."
No, it wasn't all that mattered. It was the fact that his wingman was choosing to perpetuate the bullshit that really hit him. He shook her hand off and stalked off to find James. Lina was left in the dust, afraid she had just instigated a fight between them.
Next time someone spoke up, she chose to quietly put in that it wasn't true, it was just tutoring. Check the center if you really didn't believe. Excuses, someone argued. It shouldn't have been such a big deal, but of course since it was the Jack Hawthorn...
She stood firm regardless.

"Get ready to sing bluebird," she countered. Jack had earned his first nickname.

Rumor Has It
Being surrounded by she slept with--- nearly every day, Chel didn't think much of the latest rumor about who she was sleeping with.
Mostly because the majority of the time, it was true. She was always surrounded by jokes about her shirt hanging low, people slapping her a** in the hall, relatively anything sexual went to her jurisdiction. Sometimes it wasn't even in jest; some people genuinely came to her for sex advice. Those were the really bizarre situations.
So when Lina, Jack and her became the center of the latest high school love triangle, Chel just snorted. Whether or not she had or hadn't slept with Jack didn't really make a difference in the long run. It was just what people had centered themselves around at the moment.
Which was why it was odd that Chel chose to use the information to antagonize Lina, when the small girl hadn't even done anything to deserve it.
"Hey Lina," she said, talking to the girl in a Science class when they were supposed to be talking about the day's worksheet. "Did you hear I'm bangin' your boyfriend?"
