J'nes and Hatteth

J'nes was quite relieved when he saw that the quarreling dragonets Impressed with no further injury. They still didn't look happy with each other, but at least they seemed content to head off the sands with their riders. Oh, and if J'nes remembered right, their riders with sisters. Would they want to be next to each other as they fed their dragons, or farther apart to avoid more fights? He looked over at the tables, and decided there was space for either at the moment.

Mine, there is a green approaching your hatchling now, Hatteth informed his rider.

J'nes turned from the feeding tables to look across the sands. A rather large green was making her way through the boys now. He saw her butt into the Candidate next to Janel, then turn for him. She looked up and stared into his eyes long enough that J'nes wondered if she had Impressed him, but eventually she lowered her head and bumped him in the shoulder instead.

Ha, look at that! J'nes said to Hatteth. Janel didn't flinch away, or try to hit her back or anything. Good for him!

Of course not, was the stout reply. We have taught him better than that.

The green before Janel watched him recover with aplomb and not back down, and huffed, pressing heavily into him as she ruffled her wings. She'd displayed this behaviour before but had always moved on...

This time, she didn't, however, and curled around the youth possessively. Your Scolth is here, Mine. Step up and we will be unbreakable. Her eyes whirled beautiful tones of blue, green, and red as she glanced up at him.

The green from the Rumbling Egg continued to look among the Candidates, finally choosing from among the group with purpose.

This green was not paired to a present PC Candidate. We are trying something new - she will available for adoption shortly

With the last of the Dragons hatched and Impressed, the event was over... smooth with the usual bumps and thankfully no deaths. And no Atypicals, a pleasant surprise. In all the eggs had revealed a surprisingly even distribution of Dragons among the 22 - 8 Green, 8 Blue, and 6 Brown. No metallic dragons either, but the health and stature of several individuals spoke volumes to their potential as adults.

Janel

After Janel stepped back up, the big green leaned on him again. He braced his feet better this time, and although he was forced to lean backward, he didn't step back. Then she did something she hadn't done with the others: curl around him. She looked up into his eyes again, but this time her eyes where whirling rainbows as a new voice sounded in his head. [color=green]Your Scolth is here, Mine. Step up and we will be unbreakable.

Janel blinked for a moment, then a grin split his face. "Yeah! We're gonna be the very best!

Like noone ever was, she agreed. But for now, I am hungry, and I smell food. She raised her snout and sniffed her questing head pointing towards the feeding tables.

"Oh, right, let's get you fed." Janel glanced down at his feet, which currently had a dragon on them, and nudged her. "But you have to move before I can." Once she uncurled, the pair headed off for the feeding tables.

J'nes and Hatteth
There was a moment where the green seemed to keep challenging Janel, then she instead turned rainbow eyes on him. J'nes started to cheer, but held himself back. Probably best not to show preference for any one weyrling. Instead he grinned and shared his joy with his dragon. Look at that! He Impressed, first time on the sands!

I knew he had it in him, Hatteth answered, humming a welcome to the approaching pair.

J'nes was still grinning when they got to the tables. "Congratulations! Looks like you've got a big, healthy, beautiful dragon there. What's her name?" he asked his son.

Janel and Scolth
During the Hatching, Janel forgotten that his dad would be one of the first people he saw after he Impressed. Once he saw J'nes standing by the feeding tables, there was a moment of 'What's he doing here?' before he remembered why.

"Thanks!" he answered. "She's Scolth!" He would have liked to stop and tell his dad more about her, but as soon as he started to slow down, Scolth headbutted him in the back.

There will be time to talk later. I need food now, she insisted.

So Janel laughed and picked up the pace. "She wants to eat," he told his dad by way of explanation. Scolth herded Janel to the nearest empty spot at a table and looked up at the bowls of meat expectantly. He obediently grabbed a bowl and started feeding her meat one piece at a time. She snapped them up, almost impatiently.

Can't you move any faster? she asked snappishly, her eyes whirling a hungry red.

"No, if you try to eat too fast, you'll choke," he told her. He remembered his lessons, he didn't need a weyrlingmaster to remind him. "And you should chew, not swallow them whole. There's plenty of food, no need to rush." She huffed impatiently, but after stubbornly swallowing one more piece whole, she started to chew the next one.

"Yes, ma'am." Kitchi replied with a bright grin. The girl continued to bob as the healer spoke to Litaidar, looking around as more hatchlings stumbled around their little gathering and found people to impress to. Numbers seemed to be dwindling faster and faster. Kitchi absentmindedly wondered if there was a better way to arrange hatchings, so that the dragons could still find their riders without accidents like these. A drop of prevention being worth a pound of cure and all that.

When Lita shouted she glanced back down. "Looks like they've all impressed now anyway. Ah well, Lita, there's always next time. Maybe stand a bit further back then though, huh?" Litaidar would have to go to the infirmary. Kitchi would no doubt follow, no matter what the stuffy journeywoman had to say. She'd not had reason to go into the Weyr's infirmary yet, she wasn't going to miss this opportunity.

--------------------

Experath commented gloomily from his perch.

There wouldn't be, but he saw no harm in permitting his dragons belief that one day a whole clutch of bronzes would be laid. Experath, bizarrely, didn't do it out of any thought of bronze superiority. The dragon just thought it would be fun to have an entire clutch of baby versions of himself around. He was bronze, so in his mind a clutch of bronzes was the way for this to happen.

The bronze turned his head and looked at the candidate he and his rider had brought in. He vaguely remembered her, although how much of that was N'oka's thoughts he wasn't really sure. He hated to think that they had brought the girl all the way here only for her to get hurt really badly the first time she stood.

N'oka replied from the stands, leaning forward slightly to get a better look. She'd live. Probably. Whether she'd stand again or not was another matter.

Candidate Litaidar

From her prone position she couldn't tell how fast the dragons were finding their riders. Nor did she care. She squeezed her eyes shut as Kitchi said the hatching was over. "I don't care!" She repeated. "I don't want a dragon. I'll never stand again!" She just wanted to go back to her wherries. That probably wouldn't be possible until she'd healed. "You keep standing Kitchi." She wouldn't deprive her friend of a dragon though. Lita held her breath as the painful move to the stretcher was made. Finally she was going to get off these stinking sands, even if it meant going back to the infirmary.

Candidate Banashe and Severith

She headed to a spot at the tables without much crowding, leaving plenty of room for her twin and herself. Grabbing a filled bowl she turned toward the brown who'd followed her off the sands. Her plans were coming along perfectly. She couldn't help a pleased smirk. Much sooner than she'd thought possible, she'd managed to impress. Banashe had been prepared for a long haul on the sands. The candidatemasters had told them repeatedly that first time standers didn't mean they'd impress. Some didn't impress for almost their whole tenure. Well she didn't have to worry about that now.

A mental prod woke her out of her thoughts. Oh right, Severith was hungry. Banashe took the first piece and dropped it into his waiting mouth. While he chewed she cast a glance at those who'd impressed around her. Some looked like strong beasts. That hulking green for instance. She nodded to Janel. That pair could well be useful to them.

Severith slipped along behind His. He was sinuous and strong. His head snaked side to side to clear the way for his rider. No one would block them. When they reached the tablets he settled himself. In fact he waited quite patently while his rider got lost in her thoughts. After a few moments he gave her a sharp mental nudge to remind her that she was holding his food. Severith opened his mouth and was promptly reward with a piece of meat. Much better. He too cast a glance at those people and dragons at the table. 'Patience mine. We have much time for planning.' Indeed, he would need to grow.

Vosin and Killakeeth

The last two greens found their riders without fuss. That bit bulky one had had her a bit worried, shoving candidates around, but no one else had gotten hurt. Vosin guessed that Litaidar had simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time. With the last of the dragonets safely Impressed, she dusted her hands on her pants. Another clutch well done! It had a good distribution if she said so herself. It didn't bother her that there were no bronzes or atypicals. The clutch had hatched successfully and safely and each one had found a suitable rider. That is what mattered. "Looks like we're done here Killakeeth. Ready to go?"

The gold looked with an approving eye at the babies being fed. They were no longer her charges. Her duties were done. 'Yes Vosin. It is time we left. She gave a proud rumble to the hatchlings and their riders. Well done all of you. Dragons, congratulations on finding your riders. A new phase begins for all, and we expect to see good and great things. Killakeeth dipped her head to the new pairs. She rose to her feet and with her rider at her side paced elegantly out of the Sands.

Octavia
14 turns; feeding pen
Status: Weyrling
Dragon: Blue Zangoth

She couldn't help but stare in wonder at the magnificent pale blue that stood before her. She then realized that he was hungry, she could feel his hunger and see it in his eyes. "Yes, let us get these two some food. He's quite the looker, your brown." She said in kind, though Zangoth was far more alluring. His pale hide rivaled every dragon here to her. It was almost white and there hadn't been a white dragon on Pern since the time of Ruth and Aerith. So she was very pleased with the palt blue she had now and couldn't see herself with any other than Zangoth. This was what she had been missing in her life.

She smiled over at her sister, Oh the thrills these two were going to have. I'm itchy Octaviamine." She would have to make sure to get him oiled soon, but classes for that should be starting up so they would be able to do much of a better job than what they were about to do at the feeding tables. "Don't worry Zangoth, we will get you fed and oiled here in a moment and you will feel much better." She said reassuringly to the blue.

He narrowed his gaze and looked over at Severith. 'She speaks truthfully! I would have had him had he not impressed so quickly. And had YOU not gotten in the way! I could have taken him on my own.' He hissed mentally back at the brown. He was rather upset that he had spoiled his chance by interfering like that. That overgrown tunnelsnake didn't know what truth was if it bit him on the snout! He huffed slightly and followed closely to his bonded as they walked over to the feeding tables. Zangoth moved with a fluid grace and held himself in a way that would make any turn an eye to look at his pale hide with vibrant markings. He was indeed unique and he was very much enjoying this.

Octavia grabbed a bowl and a few strips of meat and began to feed the hungry dragonet happily. She couldn't wait to see where their training would lead to, where they would go from here! One day they would be in charge and be able to do good for all of Pern! At least in a couple of turns time, now they were far to young to think of such things.

Octavia and Zangoth eyed the other dragonets in the area with their riders, that large green looked powerful, but how was her agility? Would she be able to make quick turns and dodge thread or be much slower like browns with their bulkier size. She couldn't be more than happy with her Zangoth, he was lithe and healthy and they would indeed turn heads one day. Still, were these others up to par for the tasks they would have as adults if she ever rose to the position she dreamed.

Naressa
28 turns; Stands
Status: Search Rider of Dauntless
Dragon: Blue Reciproth

Naressa watched as a fiasco broke out on the sands. Candidates screaming, one girl shrieking at the top of her lungs, and some of the hatchlings trying to duke it out. Man, she should have bet on this hatching. She really wouldn't have done that, but it was just an after thought now watching all the commotion. It appeared a few of the candidates were injured but all the dragons were fine, which was good. 'Mine, you know you shouldn't find such things that amusing, though i'll tell you. Zangoth and Severith will go far I believe, especially with their impressed pair. We should try to get them into dauntless when they become of age, even if they do best the rest of us in the wing. They will be powerful with proper training.' He said to his bonded as she excited the stands to meet the lanky blue outside.

She smiled up at him and scratched his eye ridges. 'It seems that they will go far indeed. Especially if that brown and blue push each other. It will be interesting to see what comes of those four.' She patted him lovingly and he took to the sky to go feed and she figured she'd go and see how things at the feeding tables were going.
