"He talked at me." Lawr said with a weary groan. "And Melvin knows he matters to me. Just not to you. Chantelle also has no clue about anything, she is not to be trusted."
He sighed. "Of course I cannot express that with the sort of severity it deserves..."
It was a hard life being Lawrence Weiman and this was expressed in every dramatic word he drawled.

"I'm sorry...I couldn't be what you needed. Then. And I guess...I'm only good for a certain kind of help."
His fists tightened and he looked over at Lawr. This kind of talking wasn't really his strong point either.
"But, if you're doing better, it's good that you are."

He looked down, wishing partly he didn't make Harrison question himself, before he heard Jan behind him and remind himself of the man's condition.
"That....certain kind of help is good for others." He said in a lower voice.
"....but only Jan can help me."
....I shouldn't hope for other help. There is only one person who can help me now.
"I don't want you checking up on me. I don't want you around Jan either. If I hear that you've hurt him or went near him again......" He looked away. "...then I won't be making the mistake of asking questions again."
He frowned, looking back at Harrison. "..I've...been taking it one day at a time....I'm doing better and...it's only going to turn out better soon." He pressed a smile at Harrison. "Everything will be great soon enough." And he hoped and believed what Jan said with all his heart.
Because that belief, all of it that he placed on Jan, was what kept him going some days. Jan kep him going.
"Now, I think you've done enough. I've got someone who cares to take care of." He reached for the door.

"Stick to stabbing things officer." Lawrence said smugly. "Leave the dealing with emotions for those of us with feelings outside of attack and don't attack. I cannot believe I was assaulted in a common room and corridor, I just cannot believe it."
He had managed to sharpen the edge of Melvin's words into a weapon, and it was one which actually had traction where he did not.
"Perhaps next time you should try being nice."

"I can't believe it either," Harrison growled.
Nothing either of them had said had stung or ruffled him much. He didn't do this s**t for the sake of his conscience. He knew what kind of person he was.
But Melvin saying he didn't want him around...
He tightened up at the words, lips hardening, and everything about his posture becoming bunched. If his heart had literal walls, it would have thrown up an extra couple of layers as he locked down on a feeling that he knew was too deep to be tied to any of this s**t. He should have been happy for Melvin. He waited for him to finish speaking, but he didn't smile back.
"Fine," he said, clipped. "You won't see me again."
And who had wanted him around, really? Not Nick. ...Not Jordan. He didn't have to darken anybody's door. If he just removed himself from the equation, it would be more convenient for everybody. There were some things he wouldn't give up. But Melvin, he didn't have to bother.
When he turned to leave, he didn't look at either of them.

The door closed with a somber click before Melvin turned. Jan was hurt, and he hadn't jumped automatically to his side. He still wasn't sure he made any good actions on either side and worked to justify them to be the right ones as best he could - but he had someone to answer to whose opinion mattered more.
"Uh...right. Just a minute. I know I have a first aid kit somewhere." He moved, looking through his pack when they went on missions to fiddle around until he found some antibacterial wipes, gauze, and other necessities and went to slow, cautiously, sit on the bed.
"Um.....are you alright? Do you want me to run you a bath first or rest or...I can go and get something." Whatever was needed to make Jan feel better, less sore and hopefully less sour with what Melvin had done.
