User Images**t, I’m late…
Calliope had been cuaght up dealing with something in Karakura. Something violent. She had been in the midst of that gruesome task when she recieved the summons from Mr. Crafter, only her second one ever. She had finished her business and made her way to the warehouse district as quickly as she possibly could have, and could only hope that it was quick enoughfor Mr. Crafter. She couldn’t waight until she was out from under his thumb.

When she arrived, it seemed she had been only minutes too late. Mr. Crafter and a stranger were seemingly recovering from some kind of confrontation, one which she had missed, though it was her job to protect Mr. Crafter from just such atacks. From the looks of it, Crafter had taken care of the problem himself, and for that Calliope counted herself lucky. She approached the group, and spoke up.

”Yeah sorry I’m late. I got… caught up.” She said, her voice muffled and harsh through the mask she wore to protect everyone around her. Her breaths came through in noisy drags, the air working its way through feet of filtration before it could poison the outside world.

”Where do you need me, boss?”

User ImageCrafter turned to greet Calliope when she appeared. He turned to Acri. ”This is my associate, Calliope. She will be heading to the coast to help deal with the incursion.” he said, not even turning to direct another word at Calliope. She knew now what she had to do. Further talk was unecessary,

”Fine.” Calliope turned to leave, heading towards the incursion at the coast.

XXX"The what?" Acri looked perplexed at Crafter's question. The mod-soul hadn't left the district and had no idea what was happening outside it. There was a massive explosion earlier, one that shook even the warehouse district, but other than that she was blissfully unaware of the potential end of the world scenario taking place. Something about Karakura blowing up? An alien invasion? She had no idea. "Look, I dont know about all that stuff happening out in the world, I'm just looking out for numero uno..uh. Thats me.." She thrust a thumb at herself, jabbing her sternum with the digit, before realizing Akai was floating behind her. ".and him. He's me too."

Acri seemed nonplussed by the gore and viscera that coated Crafter's blank face and clothes. She was having a private conversation with Akai when Crafter blurted out his joke, his voice dry and humorless. What? Blood in his eye- Oh. It was a joke. "Ah..ha ha ha..yeeeah.." She looked at him through a sidelong glance, awkwardly avoiding..eye contact? That was when the post-apocalyptic girl burst into the warehouse, talking about how she was late. Her breathing was labored, dragged through a complex web of hoses and an apparatus affixed to her face. Before Acri could ask what all that was for, the girl was summarily dismissed. Well alright. So Crafter did wear the metaphorical pants. Duly noted. "So..uh this 'incursion'..?"

User ImageCrafter cocked his head to the side slightly as the girl spoke, but offered no reply at first. He found it… curious, curious that she was completely unaware of what was going on just off hte coast of this very town. In a way, Crafter envied her. Ignorance was not a pleasure he had the good fortune of enjoying. Not any more. It was in his best interest to know everything that was going on.

”A bridge has appeared off the coast of Karakura town. Most of the town has been destroyed, and a series of powerful foes have made themselves known. I helped dispatch of one such foe before I came here, looking for reinforcements.” Crafter recounted the details as if they were as mundane as could be, a simple telling of facts. There was no emotion in his voice.

Suddenly, Crafter’s phone rang. He answered it without looking at it, not even speaking a word in greeting. On the other end of the line, Calliope explaned that a new foe had appeared at the temple, which was what the building had been. This new being was overwhelmingly powerful, and calliope had left to protect her own life.

Crafter did not fault his employee for leaving. She was worth nothing to him if she died.

Crafter turned back to his companion. ”It seems Calliope has encountered some trouble at the end of this bridge, and will be joining us shortly.” Crafter did not want to spring a new guest on someone, especially one who appeared as alarming as Calliope. She was already dealing with enough, talking to a man with no face.

Akira "Solid Drake" Katagiri

"I said my sword was a tool of justice ...

User Image Akira landed with a solid thud on the pavement of the Warehouse. She had to owe her less than graceful entrance into the zone to her new cybernetic legs. It was part of the price she had paid at the hand of the current invasion into Earth's spiritual and physical spectrum. The destruction brought down in Karakura Center, it was where Akira had been, trying to defend the Unaware Population. Her other mission was to keep the UPI or Unaware Population Integrity from exploding, but the invader was far stronger than anything Section Thirteen had been prepared for. Even now, the spiritual nano-technology moving through her bloodstream let Akira feel the explosions of spirit energy throughout Karakura. It seemed that the Unaware Population Integrity was spiraling into a critical failure. Soon, too many would know and be exposed to the horrors of the life beyond. The monsters that waited to slaughter and devour them, it was a cruel existence. Still, not as cruel as what Akira had been turned into. Her spirit had been modified and channeled into her new arms and legs as well as other replaced organs. The feeling of getting used to her new body, in a sense, as it was almost like being remade entirely was annoying. "Damn scientists...Couldn't have done a better job at making me normal at least? With these legs...It'll be a wonder if I ever get laid again.", she muttered as she walked to the zone were Modified Souls were rumored to train and adapt to their upgrades.

Akira had to marvel at how secretive the Modified Souls had been with this location as it was a wonder that the Soul Reapers had not descended and began to wipe out their maligned creations just like they had tried to do with the Bounto, with miraculous failure one might add. Section Thirteen seemed to be cleaning up and keeping the spirit world's problems in constant check and this was likely some hidden agenda on their part with Akira, to keep track of the Modified Souls and to exterminate any who would upset the Unaware Population Integrity. "Well, let's get this started.", she said with a crack of her neck before she began a series of warm-up maneuvers. Flexing the spirit energy through her form and getting used to the flow of her own nanomachines as they coursed through her veins. The power was intense, but all connection to her former ability to manifest a spiritual sword seemed to have been severed. Instead, she was told a work-around was being formed to replace that. "I guess this beats being dead. Not like I would have enjoyed the Soul Society anyway.", the agent spat out as her body continued to adjust to her manifestation attempts.

Her power was stifled, but enhanced to a degree, Akira had come to find out as she moved beyond her warmup manifestations and started her basic hand to hand kata. It seemed like the ability to feel the spiritual world had become more an artificial part of her, and less an innate function. "Dang... Guess I will need to focus my spiritual pressure through the machines and my new reactor core.", Akira growled. It was with her surging spiritual power that she tried to move more energy through her artificial limbs and organs to enhance her strikes to be faster and harder. There was an added benefit to this Charger Reactor she had been outfitted with. Akira felt like she could keep going on in training endlessly as her energy built up in the core. It was as if the device kept her constantly at a full "battery", so to speak. "Hell yeah... Let's keep this going.", she chuckled as her body accelerated and she began to punch at her storage container she had converted to a training dummy faster, and harder. This power was becoming almost intoxicating, it was a wonder why Section Thirteen had not outfitted more operatives with this technology by now, then again, Akira was a prototype. The test run of a project that could have disastrously harmful consequences like Project : SPEARHEAD if left unchecked. It was a good thing that Akira was a sworn agent to Section Thirteen from birth.

Akira was part of the noble Katagiri family, all famous for a strong spiritual connection, some enough so that they could be considered Gemisht, or Mix-Bloods, of the Quincy line. Akira was from a branch of the main blood-line and thus did not have enough of those genetic markers, not like she wanted them. The main line of the family were all a bunch of stuck up, pretentious, pains in the asses. They all saw themselves above base Humanity in a degree. The Quincy were owed all the luxuries and wealth for the services they provided, but in the end, the Quincy were just another part of the problems that Akira was to monitor. Hell, at this point, she was not even Human enough to be called Human. She was more machine, and artificial spiritual technology that one might mistake and identify her as a Modified Soul, which was not too far off of a misnomer in itself. She was a Modified Spirit Being, but that could fall into a lump category of the Humans infested with Hollow energy, or those who were part Bount. It did not really matter to Akira where she was classified. The only classification that mattered to the spiritual operative was her directive as Solid Drake, and that was simply to do as she was ordered and eliminate threats to the physical world.

Yet...somebody was here, and maybe multiple individuals, Akira could feel the spiritual power and it caused her to halt and prepare herself. It was quite possible, given her current status, she had to be ready for the unexpected and she kept herself on the alert for any unknown entities who might come to mess with her.

… Not used in anger. Not used for vengeance. But now... Now I'm not so sure."

User Image Calliope’s breath was slow and measured, filtering through the device on her back. Her mask was stifling. All she wanted to do was take it off and pant in fear, but to do so would spell death for anyone who happened to be near. She had taken flight as soon as the priestess had shown itself. She didn’t see this as cowardice, but as survival. She couldn’t hope to do anything against such power, especially with so many innocents near. Calliope silently cursed her luck, as she began to look around for her benefactor.

Crafter was nowhere to be found.

This is strange, she thought as her hand went instinctively to her pistol; just in case.
She confirmed again that crafter was nowhere to be found, and began to investigate. Perhaps he was in trouble.

While Calliope did not find any clue as to the whereabouts of her boss, she did, eventually, sense a new spiritual pressure. She stealthily went to investigate, doing her best to keep noise to a minimum. She was not sure how receptive this newcomer would be to strangers, especailly ones who weren’t mod souls. This place was kind of a secret among the modified soul community, one that Crafter had been hesitant to reveal to her. He had used this place as a kind of safe meeting place for him and his clients, somewhere where he was in control and surrounded by allies. Calliope had always thought that clever.

After watching this woman for a few moments, she saw the woman notice her. Their body tensed, as they looked around, trying to find the sense of Calliope’s spiritual pressure. She kenw better than to try to get away now, not with the size of the sword Calliope saw on the stranger’s back.

”Hey, I’m just looking for my boss. Have you seen him? No face? Kind of hard to miss…”]/size]

Akira "Solid Drake" Katagiri

"I said my sword was a tool of justice ...

User Image Akira cracked her knuckles and shook out her stance as she seemed to relax. Well, relax as well as she could given her new augments and the fact her feet did not really allow her to forget about grace and balance until she felt the joints shift and she became more 'flat footed'. "Huh...Learning new things by the second.", she scoffed before casting her single eye at Calliope carefully. She almost seemed to be analyzing her, taking a measure and trying to decide whether or not to be of assistance. To Calli's credit, she did not look the part of one somebody would generally go out of their way to hang out with. Though, with Karakura burning, Akira decided that now was not the time to judge books by their covers.

"No, I have not seen anybody like that. Though the description sounds kind of ominous. I do hope they do not walk among the general populace. That would certainly be cause for alarm, as well as yourself if you have no means to properly blend in with the society in general.", Akira pointed out rather bluntly. Of course, she was one to talk, but it was also easy to see how she might disguise her cybernetic appendages with regular clothing. "In case you were wondering, I am Akira Katagiri. Code named, Solid Drake, I am an agent of Section Thirteen. The division of Karakura's detective branch that is specifically designated to reduce and eliminate any impact to the unaware population caused by the spiritual.", she explained as the cybernetically enhanced woman began to stretch as if warming up for some form of practice. "Every gas leak explosion, every car accident on a deserted road, suicides in the woods. It's all a cover up for the impact that people like you and I have on those around us.", she said with a bit of a cold and callous disregard for the fact that she just admitted that the government at large was responsible for covering up the unknown and unexplained to prevent questions from being asked. "Why am I telling you this? By the looks of you...Nobody would believe you anyway. Actually...we reach out to those with potential, and maybe you should take a visit to the military base. Go at night, and your appearance should grant you access to the laboratory and Section Thirteen Headquarters...Mind your manners, answer any and all questions, and prepare to submit for testing.", she explained before reaching into her vest pocket and pulling out a strange holographic card with a "Thirteen" with a skull behind it.

With a flick of Akira's wrist, the card zipped over to Calli, who could easily catch it. "As you can see from the destruction in the distance. Karakura Town is going to need heroes if we are going to survive. It may sound a little cheesey, but maybe its time the world entered an age of heroes... so long as the spiritual nature is kept...quiet.", she said, emphasizing the last bit as she folded her arms to see what her subject of recruitment might say to such an opportunity.

… Not used in anger. Not used for vengeance. But now... Now I'm not so sure."

Akira "Solid Drake" Katagiri

"I said my sword was a tool of justice ...

User Image Well, Akira's guest seemed to have either faded from their thoughts or was being strangely silent, so she shrugged and went on about her training while Calli either got herself together or did not. It did not not really matter to the spiritual cyborg as she began to resume her regimen. "Well, back to work. Feel free to join in if you...you know, feel like it.", she offered before dashing at her shipping container and resuming her kicks and punches.

Solid Drake, Akira's code name in Section Thirteen, had been given to her because of her former powers that she seemed to have lost access too. She could not sprout wings or scales or any armor-like qualities of a dragon. Perhaps her Soul Sleep had been damaged in the explosions and destruction at Karakura and it was only through the use of this technology that she was able to keep going? That was likely the only explanation she could come up with and the scientists in the labs did not see fit to tell her any more than she needed to know, which made sense. If she were to know too much about her own prototype technology, she could easily be captured and interrogated and this tech could find it's way into the wrong hands, legs, feet, or even internal organs. That would be an unneeded threat to the safety and security that the pink haired agent was sworn to protect from life and even into death.

With her Charger Reactor online, Akira felt like she had a wealth of power flowing through her that she did not have before. It was now time to test out the empowered cybernetic legs she had. Her brain had become almost computer-like with the attachment of her eye. She could see the specs and requirements for her to utilized her newfound abilities, but the problem lay not in knowledge of the Storm Leg technique or Moon Step, but actually performing these powerful movement skills. Most spiritual fighters could move at high speeds and she was not keen on falling behind as that knowledge would be needed in order for her to remain a valuable asset to Section Thirteen.

As Akira stared up at the sun that burned over-head now, she began to channel her reiatsu through the Charger Reactor. The spiritual energy surging through her frame through the powerful core inside of her chest was like a rush of adrenaline that got her hair standing slightly on end and her breathing accelerated from the excitement and also the fear of the unknown. Akira had never attempted this before, so she was unsure of just how this would work out for her, if it even did. "No turning back now. It's too late to deactivate!", and with those words spoken by the cybernetic agent, she kicked off the ground, which seemed to crunch lightly in a small divot from the burst. Her eyes went wide as she found herself near cloud level, and the ground so far below her. The rush of the wind flowing against her form was intoxicating. To Akira, this was like flying, but then she realized she was now approaching the ground, and she braced herself for the landing which made a similar divot, not too far off from where she had started. Akira then kicked off once more, letting her power grow from the assistance of her technological organ. This time... she was gone?! She had bounced so far off, she was moving from the Warehouse toward Karakura's burning and ruined Hospital, and she could not even stop herself.

… Not used in anger. Not used for vengeance. But now... Now I'm not so sure."

Ran entered the warehouse to train before moving on to see if she could find a Shinigami that was friendly to her kind. She kind of remembered a time when the shinigami did not get along with the beings that they had created. With a sigh and a memory tugging at her mind she hunted down a quiet corner in which to begin her training. It took her several minutes to find a suitable area and she dropped her ragged bag then sat down and closed her eyes. In doing so she saw the ghost of shattered memories. In some she trained alone in various locations and in different bodies. Their were a few weird ones where she seemed to have a few bodies. Some memories she was training with others who were either friends or family. There was an odd memories of training someone else as well. The young looking Mod-Soul shook her head to clear it. Now was not the time for wool gathering she needed to learn or it seemed to relearn some skills. Ran sighed again and pulled an old training manual out of a dusty pile of books and random crap. She sat back in the corner and skimmed through the book wishing that Jessica's father had been able to repair her memories. Setting the book aside and looking in the pile she saw that there was a training manual for the advanced form of mod souls. With a slight smile she bagged the advanced manual and crammed it, the first book and a few other things into her bag.

Ran had been about to leave but changed her mind deciding to stay at the warehouse and train some more. Ran moved to another area of the warehouse since the spot she was in was starting to get a little crowded and she liked to train alone she could interact with others later. Once situated in a new spot she plopped down on the back of a ragged, old chair. Then pulled the training manual back out of the bag and started to read. The first random skill she turned to in the book was Finger Gun. "Hmm this looks familiar." She muttered under her breath. Then aiming at a filthy old pillow that was near by fired off a couple of bullets. Neither shot hit the target with a soft growl She dropped her arm and glared at the pillow till a piece of memory skittered threw her mind. "Oh right it is like this." Ran whispered then aiming once more at the pillow blasted a hole in the middle of it. She grinned at the mess she had just made. Jessica was not one for causing destruction but Ran knew a importance of learning offensive skills, as well as defensive and others kinds. Her memories may be shattered, scattered or just plain gone but she still remembered a couple different battles where she had lost the fight and was almost destroyed. Though she could not remember how she lost the fight or why she lost she just knew that she lost. Hopefully Ran could find Sakura or more conmanly referred to as Mama by the mod souls that Sakura had made. Ran hoped the Mama could finish repairing the damage the she had sustained in the last war. With a sharp shake of her head Ran turned back to the book to see what her next random pick would be. She frowned when the book landed of the hardest to the skills. "Just figures was hoping to save this for last." She grumbled before she started to read Energy Absorption. After a moment of reading Ran grinned she already had this skill. It was the only one for some odd reason that she had not forgotten "I do not need to learn this one." She said chuckling as she turned the page to another technique. The next skill on her list turned out to be Power Suppression. "Hmm a disguise skill could be useful." Ran whispered. Especially since she did not know where things stood between the Shinigami and Mod Souls. It could also be useful against Hollows and Bount, maybe even Quincy and the others races. Both to hide from those who would harm her and to lay in wait for those she wanted to attack. Ran nodded to herself but did not attempt to practice the skill seeing as their was no point to in a building full of her own kind. For a moment Ran lowered the book and watched other Mod Souls train or laze about. She could not help but wonder who made these others. Could she have a sibling present and not even know it. Ran could not recall who they were but knew her creator had made others. Surely she was not the only one of Sakura Hyakka's Mod Souls left roaming Earth or the Soul Society. How was she to get to the Soul Society to find her Mother or Aunt Ume or any of the others. Ran sighed then shock herself she had more important things to worry about in the here and now. Ran took a slow breath then turned back to the book. The next skill she turned to was Iron Body a defensive skill. After she was done reading it Ran thought that it was not bad but wished it were stronger. Maybe when she was ready she could make her own techniques. Ones that would be stronger than these basic skills. She would also like to get her own strength back eventually. Once more Ran forced her thoughts back to the book. Was training really so boring that she had to struggle to considerate. The next skill she focused on was Overclock Soul-Pill an augment ability. Ra was momentarily confused as she read the information about this skill. But it was long before it dawned on her that this was a type of booster. "Oh this should be fun." Ran then turned back to the book and grinned broadly the next ability was right up her alley. As she read the two remaining skills Storm Leg and Moon Step she remembered some of the fun she had had while using them in the past. But they had not been good enough nothing she had, had been good enough in that last battle. Ran was determined to do better when the next one came. After finishing with the last of her reading she sat the book down then activated storm leg and using Moon Step when needed to raced threw out the warehouse being careful to dodge the others who were training. Next she decided she would go find somewhere else to train. Or maybe give into curiosity and check out something she thought she has sensed earlier on her way to the warehouse. But for now she continued to dart around even picking up her bag when darting by where she left it. After a few more cycles of the warehouse she decided that it might be time to leave as some of her brethren were glaring her way. One or two were even trying to get a fix on her so that they could fire finger gun at her. Someone even muttered something about cats. With a laugh Ran darted out the door headed to her next destination. She glanced back over her shoulder still laughing as someone slammed the door behind her. She did not need to return she had the training manual for the next level of skills in her bag and could train anywhere when she was ready or she could return to the warehouse and train there. Their was no telling what the future had in store for her. Their was still a lot for her to learn or relearn if necessary.

Chouko Luna Yukimura
[ HP: 175 | SE: 88 | Clarity: 30 ]

Finally, she arrived at the very place she wanted to be and with a slow breath, she returned to her true identity, Chouko Luna Yukimura. The form she takes is known as Senshi Yami, her magical girl form, one she takes to fight enemies without her civilian self being exposed to the public. It was a long time ago before she could join her sisters in the Mod Scouts. She couldn't join them initially due to that, a principle of protecting your true identity is in a way a mandate for such a group. So she had to train harder and harder in order to reach her form, when she did, the darkness in her stirred much further. The stirring of darkness, resurrection, and the cycle of life became part of her being. So did light come into the world, darkness joined in as well, its like a balance is always adjusting in her soul.

There cannot be such light without a darkness, such as there can't be creation without destruction. She almost feels like she has that responsibility, to keep balance in the world like a goddess but in truth, she is no where close to divine. If she was divine, Her sisters would always be protected by her strength but they are simply Mod souls created by Rogue Shinigami and brought here. Its been awhile since she has seen them but she believes they are constantly on the watch for them including the Shinigami, ones that truly follow the Soul Society. That is why she is also known as the Informer or Interceptor of the Soul Society, she is the main communication link. She plays that vital role well and has used the Hell Butterflies to contact the girls from time to times, passing important information.

Yoru enters the large unused warehouse that the mod souls use to train their abilities away from the eyes of others. He walks to a corner of the room and starts practicing the abilities he had been told that this modified body had. There was two he had been told about that he wanted to focus on first. One allowed him to harden this body against an incoming attack, while the other would allow him to move more quickly for a brief time. He spent a while going over what he had been told about how they worked, and them practicing them. After a couple hours of practice, he could harden his body slightly, but not enough to actually help his defense. Meanwhile on the side of the movement aiding technique, he could activate the vents, but didn’t have enough control not to trip or crash into a wall. He would need more time to work on both techniques.

Chouko Luna Yukimura
[ HP: 175 | SE: 88 | Clarity: 30 ]

"Are you hear to train too?" Chouko asked very kindly as she walks up to Maho seeing he got himself in a mix. Chouko's black hair would move gracefully as she asked him almost as if the wind is greeting him with warmth. The kind of warmth that a young man or a young boy can't help but respond back to where that warmth is coming from. Who would want to turn that warmth away from them on a day like this? Yes the warehouse is dark, abandoned, and damp but despite this, she will still show the kindness, care, and the light within her heart. Yes her power is darkness but it won't stop her from being so positive and outgoing to everyone. She giggles a bit as she says"I hope you don't bump your head while trying to perform those techniques, though i can't say much. I don't even know what techniques you are trying to perform but i would be willing to learn by watching you if that is fine. Hopefully you don't mind talking to me too."

Chouko has always been a shy girl specially when shadows can etch and try to interrupt her persona. She never liked the depths in her soul, the very depths that would growl and roar at any one, trying to scare them off. In a way some would think her power is trying to defend her but no, its trying to tear her down. Crawling, slithering, and even worse scratching the inside of her being trying to get her to have one of those anger swings because of it bothering her. Despite that, she fights against it and with her positive persona, the light in her heart battles with it and it goes away from her. Her powers in particular hate when she is so positive, because it can't draw any where close to her mind or her spirit either.

Yoru turns to the girl who came up to him and spoke. He sees that she is younger than him. “I am here to train, yes. And I am trying to learn one of the movement techniques available to mod souls.” He then resumes his training of the technique, wanting to master it quickly. The more he does it, the more control he gains over it, until he can do it without tripping or crashing. He then goes back to working on the Iron Body technique, focusing on his ability to harden his body against an incoming attack to boost his ability to survive it.

Before Chouko could answer, she hears her phone go off as she views a text from Mizuki, her best friend and crush. She kind of bites her lip a bit as she would put her phone away trying to not blush. "Um, i need to go, i would stick around to train with you but there is something i must go do now. Maybe ill catch you around later, cha cha." Chouko as she turns she would have a big smile on her face thinking"Finally i get to see Mizuki again, its been too long since i have seen her. I know she has been busy and such but there is something i must tell her but hopefully i can work up the nerve to tell her." Chouko walks pretty fast leaving out of the Warehouse district.

It was a little odd how the Seireitei was attacked all of a sudden; two Ryoka bypassed security and wreaked havoc in the courtyards. Many were injured or worse and the culprits...well from what the vice captain could discern, was a cyborg of some kind. What a shame she couldn’t learn more about the other infiltrator on a count of disintegrating, but the only lead she had brought her to the World of the Living. Given the last words the cyborg breathed was to alert them of an attack on Karakura Town, she believed there to be some relation between the two. She thought perhaps the Hollow were used in some manner to cause mass destruction in such a short period of time. Thus, Sawako sought to look for and examine the Hollow with Tora. However, now that she took more time to investigate on her own, it seemed clear to her the Hollow came after. But it drew her no closer to discovering the truth. But then...the researcher found herself being drawn elsewhere. Numerous thoughts swirling in her head as she walked around aimlessly: wondering where the cyborg could have originated or where such tech could exist.

It was hard to admit to herself, but the trail was going cold and fast. And not learning the truth behind the Ryoka’s methods was going to drive her crazy. When she finally pulled away from her thoughts, she found herself in an odd area of the town. Something about this place was familiar and also off putting, making her feel uncomfortable. “What...is this place?” the woman asked aloud, looking around at the various warehouses. It was quiet and vacant at first glance. Her steps as she walked forward echoed loudly in her head. This place reminded her of…

The days before she became a shinigami. Back then she lived with her father who raised her and taught her his profession. The man was always cold and detached; keeping her at arm's length, but keeping her all the same. She always felt it was because she was different; a feeling she got from the way he treated her. Sawako was forbidden to play with other children or associate with other people and she hardly ever got to go outside. Only when she was with him was she allowed to leave their home and even then wasn’t allowed to speak to people. There was no rhyme or reason for her father’s strict and suppressive demands; none she could come up with to explain it, yet she knew better than to disobey. She longed to have her freedom and do what she wanted. A chance to play with kids her age and make friends! It was only a matter of time when she learned the truth of his odd behavior and...what she really was. On that day, when the man she called her father was apprehended by the Gotei 13 and everything came to light. Because she was told to hide, she avoided getting taken away with him. He was charged with illegal experimentation on the human soul, but Sawako was clueless about this. However, with her father gone, the girl had an ample amount of time to search for clues. The notes she found and the origin of her own birth being revealed...something in her changed that day. Later, she would learn of her father’s execution, though she didn’t feel anything for his death. She at last had her freedom...and it didn’t even matter. Sawako spent a good deal of time searching for something to care about and she found it in the one thing her father left her: science and the pursuit of knowledge. The young scholar’s works delved into numerous topics; however, her resources were limited. In the Rukongai, there was only so much you could do or accomplish with little to no funds. Thus she sought out the Gotei 13…

Sawako felt herself wake up, as if she had fallen asleep while standing up. Her vision was blurred and she was covered in a cold sweat. Something just happened to her, though she couldn’t explain what. There was a feeling- she was different somehow just from coming to this place. It didn’t sit right with her, not even a little bit. While the researcher enjoyed pursuing her curiosities, this was not one of those times. “I should...get back” the woman sighed, shaking her head. Drawing her zanpakuto, she would thrust it forward in the air before her and turn it like a key. Just as she’d learned in the academy, it would open the Senkaimon for her to return to the Seireitei. A black butterfly fluttered out, dancing around her person as before, ready to escort her through. Her movement was sluggish, but she would find the inner strength to push on through.
