He dealt about a quarter of its healthbar with the effort, and was content with that. He had enough bait for this to take a little while. Certainly more than he would need, unless he just started throwing like the voices in his head were chasing him. The man watched the spider and hefted the small piece of bait in his hand, testing its weight. He would wait for the spider to commit to an action, so that it couldn't react to his own attack. That, he figured, was the best way to do it. To trap the mob into an animation so that he could exploit it. Current skills in use: Beastmaster: 6 light armor: 1 evasion: 10 Name: Spider's fang. The mine continued to be a lucrative little tunnel. From the town, Rota learned that the other material was Quartz. He didn't know exactly what it was used for yet, but he was determined to get as much of any and all materials he could get his hands on. His pickaxe came down with vim and vigor as he mined the rock for all it was worth and more.

Again, fortune turned a blind eye to Rota as the vein ended once more. He was undeterred though. Rota had proven before that his force of will was sufficient to call forth the precious materials locked away inside the stone, and it was up to his pick and his diligence to uncover them. His tunnel was getting rather deep, and knowing that the Gloom Queen was somewhere in pre-existing tunnels was no comfort to the would-be miner. He hoped not to breach any of said tunnels in his expedition.

Rota had yet again as well as come up empty. The mine was doing so well, and then the resources dried up. Was the mine truly finished? He could not let himself believe that. He raised the Pickaxe again over his head, and brought it down with continued force and vigor. He thought about the things he was going to do with his materials, and two things came to mind.

While Alyx' first attack had been a bit lackluster, his second was a critical, and damn near tamed the spider by itself. The warrior was becoming quite the beastmaster, and his luck with spiders apparently extended to taming instead of just killing. He smiled and dangled the piece of bait in his fingers, teasing the spider. This was child's play, at Alyx' level, though he could imagine how hard it might be to get started as a beastmaster. Not even able to have a pet until you could kill/tame a boar to take as a companion. Unless you had someone to walk you through the Spider Queen, in which case you would probably have an easier time just for the experience you'd get from being there while someone killed the Queen. Alyx watched as the spider turned blue and became his newest loot dialogue. He was anxious to see what he had gotten, so he immediately went for the window, excited. He didn't know how many spiders he'd tamed, but he'd gone through 17 bait, so he figured he'd gotten a couple of hearts in his adventure. He'd have to start actually working toward doing something with them, though, because it would start to get a little morbid if he was just like making necklaces out of these things. Go down into the basement of his guild hall and see shelves and shelves of jars, just filled with the hearts of Gloomweave spiders. Rota was thoroughly disheartened. His mine had definitively dried up. How could that happened so quickly? How could he have failed? While he had succeeded in other regards, the fact that he picked a spot that dried up so quickly was a sticking point. he glanced at the walls, trying to feel the thrum of the earth, and decided to give the mine one last chance for the day. he had to find something with this. Charcoal was preferable, but he needed to know that this mine still had longevity in it.

The Mine was dead. he had extracted all he could from it for now, and it refused to give any more. Head hung low, he slung his pickaxe over his shoulder, grabbed his sword, and left back for town. He needed to get back to the village anyways. Who knows what Alyx was doing?

It looked like Alyx finally had enough to make a , so he left the spiders to their own devices and returned to the encampment to begin his work refining. He apparently needed something called a to do this work, and he found one near the Lightsmith's area that he could use. He pulled two out of his inventory and followed the prompts to put them into position. He then followed instructions to rotate the many rings and lenses to align the small beams of light that were created by the focused energy of the Sun. He arranged the beams in such a way that many beams of light pierced the first and the light was focused into a beam that flowed into the second. He wondered what kind of magic a Lightsmith could work with this machine. He knew that they could make healing crystals, but if he could use this to refine beast hearts, maybe they could be used for all sorts of things. He had been pleasantly surprised that he'd also received a trophy for the Augmented Gloomweave Spider he'd tamed. That meant that he was only one trophy away from creating a spider trophy, and he'd get to see what all the fuss was about. He still wanted to max out the Spider Queen's trophy, but he had a feeling that was going to be rather difficult. Just getting one trophy from her was hard enough, and now he needed to tame her... His beastmaster was still awfully low to consider attacking the Queen. He sighed. Maybe this just wasn't meant to be. His skills were going up so slowly now that he was level 12, fighting level 1 mobs. There had to be an easier way to level up... Maybe if he went to the second floor. But it wouldn't be fair to his friends if he left them behind. He sighed again, taking off his cavalier's hat and running his hand through his hair. This was troublesome. What could he do if he couldn't get his skills high enough to actually use them? At this level, he would never be able to do enough damage to actually tame the Spider Queen. He sat down on a bench and groaned. There was no easy answer. At his level, he suspected that the dungeon would be a doable option, but he didn't want to leave everyone else out here.
Maybe he could just dip inside and take a look around. It's not like he would kill the boss, right? Where the hell was everyone, anyway? He decided that if he didn't hear from anyone, he would have to move forward. He couldn't wait here long enough to lose his name. What would they call him if he lost his way? The Gloomking? That sounded more like a monster than a member of the encampment. That would be terrifying. His character as a monster in the Gloomwood, just waiting for an unwary adventurer to stumble upon him.
Alyx chuckled. That would be a real d**k move. If he turned dark side and started killing players, he would be unstoppable. But he didn't much care for that sort of thing. Killing players was the realm of people like that person, and Alyx had never developed a taste for it. Especially not now. He'd once been more interested in becoming more powerful himself than dealing with other people, but that had all changed when his guild got wiped. He'd been left alone and had started mentoring and training with the low-level players.
Beastmaster Arte: Heart Refinement A heart is a concentrated form of Light, and, through rituals mastered by beastmasters, that light can be refocused into a purer form. Using these rituals, you can focus the Light of the Sun through a heart to infuse the light from other hearts to strengthen a single heart.
You can merge two hearts of the same level to create a higher grade heart, or you can use three hearts that are one level lower than the main ingredient to strengthen the main ingredient.

Alyx took the that he'd received from the procedure and replaced his two into the It took a bit of doing, but Alyx finally focused enough light into the crystals to cause them to flash and glow brightly, before the first one disappeared and the second one changed shape to form a small, perfectly spherical gemstone, imbued with all the power of a Gloomweave Spider. Alyx nodded. This would do nicely. For what? He knew not. But if there was something it was supposed to do, it would do it well, he was sure of that. The man took a breath and picked the gemstone up and wondered what his next adventure was going to be; has wasn't ready to tame the Queen, so what would he do?

Name: Rampaging Rabbits! Questgiver: Beastmaster Prerequisites: None Objectives: spend 1 post spreading bait for the rabbits to put them back in their pen. Rewards:+1 Beastmaster
Rota decided to help out the man with his rabbits. He had never had a pet growing up, but had always wanted one. He didn't know why he wasn't allowed to have one. He had seen all of the other kids with their dogs, and every dog that had ever came up to him would love him, no matter how purportedly vicious they were supposed to be. As he baited the rabbit cages with leafy greens, he found himself reminiscing back to those days, and wanting a pet of his own now. A little ball of fuzz and whiskers to call his own. but it would need to be able to defend itself as well as Rota could, for he knew that there would be times when he couldn't get to his companion in time. As the bunnies bounced tentatively back to their cages he pondered how to do this. Could he achieve such a thing?

Rota went to see the cook, and it seemed like he needed some help gathering firewood. Not one to turn someone down, Rota accepted the axe that was given to him and went to chop down some firewood. The forest was so unique, having that musty smell of familiarity and danger. Rota was not sure what he would do when this musty smell was no longer near him, as he felt it had been around him for a major part of his life. But thoughts of the world beyond were not for now. now was for cutting wood. He removed his cloak, laid his sword elsewhere, and got to work in the dense forest.

Rota felled the tree quite easily, but found that the natural rot of the woods had mysteriously overtaken the life of the trees, as there was only enough usable wood for one piece of firewood. Quite odd that. he moved on to another tree, pondering the nature of the fungus in the area; If that wasn't the actual threat in the gloomwood.

Once more Rota felled the tree by striking the soft rot of the wood. he was having bad luck finding healthy trees to extract their wood, but at least he was consistently getting what he needed. He found it less rewarding though. This was less of a pursuit and more of a means to an end. Mining was an adventure, not knowing if fortune would be in your favor or turn against you. perhaps the only time wood would find favor with him would be for bows, but even those felt wrong. Melee was definitely the way to go.

It was clear that his place in nature was set in stone. The woods were fickle in their gifts, not like the stone had been, but to a lesser extent the stone had been more fickle in hindsight. The stone had given him gifts of Iron and Quartz, but had rescinded the gift of coal once he wanted to gather some for his own personal use. He supposed he needed to get back to mining at some point, since he DID have plans for armor and weaponry, but he felt this task was important in its own right.
