"I'm too old to be worrying about pleasing everyone," She smiled back, wry as his, a shrug to match. "I worried far too much about it when I was younger and almost never tried for a Weyrhold. Nearly quit before anyone came out there. It was a learning experience." The arguments about Weyrwoman and titles, the final flare of her temper and harsh words. She'd not be set aside, not for friends nor otherwise. Natai lived with that fear and she would die with it. Her smile widened, something akin to disbelieving delight flickering across her expression before she schooled it into something more professional, less amused. "A'nos, do you mean to tell me that you were going to sit on that lovely idea forever or try to implement it through less than proper means? I'm shocked. Absolutely shocked, I say.
"People are loyal to those who help them, for the most part," She added on, settling back in her chair with a crooked, faint smile. "Children to mentors at any rate. I doubt the majority of them would want to rise against the place that raised them, taught them a trade, and thought no less of them if they didn't Impress."

"Me? Improper means?" A'nos laughed briefly. "Now would I do a thing like that?... But though I will go to the proper channels my direct superior is... well you know him, a fine man and a great Weyrleader but. Ah. Set in his ways mmh?" It was no secret that D'dita was a traditionalist at heart, for all that he had acquiesced to the new way it took a great deal of convincing him to alter his view on anything. In this however A'nos was confident and in fact the matter needn't in theory be taken to him, he could go straight to the Candidatemaster. Given the Weyrleader and Weyrwoman had the power to veto any proposal however it seemed sensible to him to warm the pair of them up to it first and it was D'dita who would be the challenge not L'anen. "I think N'new will be receptive but as I say, I'd value your voice to him on the matter as well.... And you're right of course," A'nos smiled faintly and nodded. "Humans more often follow their hearts than their heads, which can inspire great acts of courage and compassion against the odds... or great foolishness. Or both at the same time of course."
