"You may proceed," the doctor gestured to Oliver with an agreeable smile. "Do leave the more detailed proposal on my desk at your soonest convenience so I can better determine what resources you'll have at your disposal."

Ever received a thoughtful look followed by a nod. "A risky project, do make sure the result is worth cultivating such an acquaintance."

"Y-yes sir!" Oliver squeaked, and sat down quickly.

Although he still trembled like a chihuahua amidst a pack of rottweilers, the boy was elated. It was a rare feeling of success that couldn't be cut short by the intimidating stare from one seat over, nor the scorn practically radiating from the hunter he had never met sitting farther down the table.

He offered a brief smile to Lex in return, and took a deep breath, willing himself to relax while listening to the other speakers. He felt lightheaded, it was a good thing he wouldn't have to get up again for some time.
