He smiled in a deliberately innocent way.

"This is the part where I drag you out into the desert and make you watch chick flicks on repeat," Chance deadpanned, patting Otto's shoulder consolingly. He crossed one leg over the other.

"But feel free to guess if you want, or you can just wait until tonight."

"Nice try, but you don't know s**t about movies." Otto bantered back. "I bet you ain't even worked a DVD player before." He felt smug in this fact, certain Chance had done little to no movie watching since he'd shown him his first movies.

"My guess is... you're taking me to the cliffs, taking my wallet and shoving me into the ocean."

He made a sound of mock distress, pressing his fingers to his chest.

"You wound me, good sir," said Chance dramatically. "With a sad but true fact, I do not, as you've already discovered, have any idea how to work a DVD player since I never owned one, though I assume they're not particularly hard to figure out. You just press play, right?"

He grinned over at Otto.

"Damn. Looks like you figured me out already, guess I'll have to come up with something else..."

"Sort of. It's a complicated machine." Otto wasn't completely lying. But if Chance could learn to use the cell phones, he could easily figure out a DVD player. Still, it was fun to tease.

"Yeah, I'm too quick for you. My specialization is survival tactics, after all." He smirked ever so briefly with a shrug. "I make it my business to not die."

"I'll defer to the experts, then," said Chance, dipping his head graciously in Otto's direction. "You are my movie to-go person, so that automatically makes you the DVD person too."

A smirk flitted briefly across his face before disappearing again, Chance's smile relaxed as he finally lifted his hand from Otto's shoulder. He didn't move far, however, instead resting his elbow on the back of the chair behind him and resting the side of his head against his hand.

"And I'm very glad you haven't yet," he said lightly. "Otherwise I'd find myself deprived of the pleasure of your company."

"You're in sore need of a bigger friend pool." Otto murmured back, relaxing into a lazier seated position than his previous ball of tension. "Not that I got any recommendations or nothin'."

"I have other friends," said Chance with a laugh. "Sort of. I mean, I'm still getting used to having them in general, so it's taking a bit of getting used to."

One of his shoulders rose and fell casually.

"You just happen to be the one that I like being around the most. Hence my earlier stubbornness," Chance added, smiling lazily.

"I still think you're nuts." Otto mumbled back stubbornly. Honestly, what attracted people to him in the first place? Maybe he was an angler fish in a past life. Or a venus fly trap. Maybe there was an unspoken allure that brought people closer until it was too late.

"How deep to angler fish live?" He wondered aloud as he stared at the deep blue beyond.

Chance pondered this question momentarily, in spite of its abruptness.

"I think they're one of those creatures that live near the bottom of the ocean, right?" he asked thoughtfully. "I think I read somewhere that they're one of those really deep sea things that practically scrape the ocean floor, so the answer is probably really deep."

"Oh." He replied, a bit disappointed. He wouldn't get to see an angler fish then. That was sad.

He might be pouting.

He slid a sideways glance at Otto, then reached out, prodding a finger against the side of his head teasingly.

"Sharks are much more interesting than angler fish, anyway. And they're also actually in aquariums."

"Sharks are overrated. Ever since Sharknado they got high on their fame." Otto grumbled, his head leaning from the prodding finger. "Want a damned angler fish..."

He paused.

"Bugs and animals can't live on the island... are there any fish though?" He squinted at the glass, "I never see'em.. Ain't ********' natural."

"I think I remember you telling me about that whole Sharknado thing," said Chance musingly. "Back when we were deciding on what movie to watch. Maybe you can figure out if there are deep sea diving suits or something, go find you an anglerfish."

He raised his eyebrows. "Maybe it's just the whole..." Chance waved his free hand. "runic thing, or whatever. Whatever protects us here also keeps other things away, like a kind of force field or some s**t."

Otto frowned. On one hand, he didn't have to worry about bees bugging him while hanging around outside. On the other, the island was so lifeless without wild life. Even after years of living there.

"I don't wanna be in a dive suit." Otto murmured. "It'd freak me out." All that water over top of him, just waiting to crush him and take his air. Otto shuddered at the thought.

"I'll live without the angler I guess."

"Hence why I like open spaces more," said Chance with a light smile. "I'd rather be out under the sky than cooped up somewhere else. I don't mind like, my room, or being indoors, but anything smaller and I start to get a little antsy over it."

He shuddered at the very idea. "Enclosed spaces are the worst."
