Somehow, it didn't matter that he only really knew Hitch a little bit. It mattered that he was warm and he was comfortable, and that he hadn't looked at Tolliver with pitying eyes, or treated him like a cripple, in spite of his annoying limp. And it mattered that he was kissing Tolliver like he wanted to drown in him.

Tolliver still hadn't opened his eyes yet, but he gave a soft shiver as he felt a hand against his spine, and then one against his own, holding it against Hitch's chest. Lips brushed his neck - Tolliver's fingers tightened in Hitch's shirt - sending heat ricocheting up and down him.

The whisper against his ear had his eyes flying open, Tolliver shuddering. The question was a loaded one; as inexperienced as he may have been, he knew the intentions behind it.

He also knew the answer to that question, but anxiety filled his stomach, heavy and terrible.

"N...no," Tolliver murmured, inadvertently tilting his head against Hitch's. "But...but you might - I mean, my leg - "

He was referring to the horrendously ugly scar that cris-crossed its way up and down the majority of his calf and partly up the rest of his leg. Fritz called it his war wound, but Tolliver had always been self-conscious about it, had been filled with a terrible sense of disgust every time he looked at it.

He'd also never showed anyone the scar before - but it wasn't like he wasn't interested, because almost every part of Tolliver was yelling that he was. His fingers curled tighter in Hitch's shirtsleeve, because in all honesty, he didn't want him to leave, even if the thought was simultaneously exhilarating and terrifying.

It was good he felt that way - if Hitch had a chance, he would've said the less Tolliver knew, the better. He could still be charming, interesting, maybe even attractive. This was the best version of himself, and from here, it would all be ********> he loved the way Tolliver shuddered though. He drew in his breath a little sharper when he felt it, badly wanting to make it happen again - and again - and then some more. ********, there were so many things he wanted to make Tolliver do.

A simple 'no' send a surge of euphoria through him so intense, Hitch was the one to shiver that time, but it wasn't out of nerves. When he heard 'but', the thought of rejection crept in again, although it didn't get the chance to fester. Hitch's lips curled into a smile against Tolliver's ear, and he let out a short, warm huff of a laugh. So he was the one worried about being rejected. It was a strange new position to be in, but from Tolliver, it was endearing.

Hitch nuzzled against him, reassuringly, before he whispered back, "I wouldn't. I promise."

He felt Hitch's shiver, and it made his eyes flutter half shut, because he'd been the one to cause that this time. Tolliver couldn't quite see Hitch's face from this angle, but he could feel the curve of his lips as he smiled, and it made his stomach twist, made his chest tighten.

The pieces were slowly being put together. Tolliver became very aware that they were still standing outside of his building, the loft just a few short floors away. Hitch had already proven that he wasn't the pitying sort. He was attractive and warm and intensely passionate - and he kissed extremely well, if Tolliver's dazed mind was anything to go by. And, most of all, Tolliver, for once in his life, did not want to simply walk away.

It was all down to him.

His chest constricted again. Tolliver closed his eyes and swallowed hard.

"Third floor," he said quietly, almost too quietly to hear, but he'd turned his head a little, whispered the words out for only Hitch to listen to anyway. He buried his face against the other man's hair, exhaling a long, shaky breath. "Apartment 312. Key's in my back pocket."

There was no telling if he'd regret it in the morning, but this was not the morning. This was here and now, and here and now, Tolliver really, really didn't want to say no.

So he didn't.

Silence; Hitch hated silences. Silences could mean anything. Maybe Tolliver could even feel his heart pounding faster and harder the longer it dragged on. He tried to focus on other things, like how it felt to stroke Tolliver's back. How he smelled. Or taking a hand to slide it along the other man's chest, savoring the feel even through layers of fabric. All these little things he couldn't get with women, like the one he slept with out of little more than convenience some weeks back. A distraction. Easier to sleep with than to leave behind.

Hitch didn't think Tolliver would send him away. It didn't stop the wave of relief from rolling over him when the apartment number was whispered in his ear, goosebumps rising along his skin like it was still a cool spring night. He almost greedily fished through the other man's pocket as he tilted his head, catching Tolliver's temple with his lips.

It would be a long night.
