"And I could find Jack's horsemen," she tacked on, fingers curling in the edge of the couch while her eyes glazed a faraway look. With Chel's lax nature she hadn't, perhaps, made it apparent how much these things bothered her. She was the type to sit on her rage and let it fester until it had made a gaping hole and needed to be fixed by a professional.

Sometimes literally.

Penumbra was a point she'd thought about most. She nodded, heart only skipping half a beat as she realized she didn't have to keep tight lipped anymore. She still wasn't used to the feeling of a free wrist, an unwatched life.

His secondary comment actually made her flinch. "I dunno, moon of my life. I guess you'll have to find a new sun." It was actually a point that had conflicted her decision. So many people considered her the sun; she was Chris' sunshine. How could she just betray that role? "Guess I'd just be the death of you." She smiled at him in a cheeky way, needing to cover up the panic with a joke.

Chris clapped his hands together once with the force of his excitement. "Oh my god, that's almost more fitting."

He was worried about a lot of things with the switch, most of all what it meant about Chel's mental state and direction. Was this a sign of her settling down some and becoming more stable? Or was she lashing out in some new and unusual way by rearranging the order of things? He studied her for a second, then nodded. "If you've been thinking this hard about it, you should probably go for it, yeah? If you think super secret spy life is the best choice for you, then I've got your back."

"Do we gotta do some paperwork to make it happen?"

Unfortunately for Chris (as many things were with Chel) it was a combination of both becoming more stable and needing a new outlet. Things were never easy with her.

"Buy me a catsuit and we'll be solid," she said, reaching across the couch to ruffle his hair. She nodded to the question about the paperwork. "Yeah, but I wanna write it myself. Feels important." She shrugged and leaned closer. "You can bet your a** once I'm in you're gonna do reports for days." Apparently the death division had a shitton of paperwork.

"Catsuit's probably got more coverage that some of the s**t you wear, I swear." He ducked away from the hair ruffles, but with a fond smile. He was a little proud of her for wanting to take it into her own hands, though Chel was always one to pick up and get s**t done when it desperately needed to be. He supposed he was the one that dragged his feet.

"Oh good. More paperwork. Because my desk wasn't littered with papers already or anything." He knocked his shoulder into hers. "Maybe I'll drop it off on Jack's lap. He's supposed to be smarter than us, right?"

The shoulder knock had her rebounding back into the beanbag, only to stand up and move to sit on him. "Jack gets off on paperwork, you bet your a** I'm usin' both of you!"

After much fighting and crushing she found herself situated in what could have been the top of the pile. "Do me a favor though. Don't stop callin' me sunshine and s**t." She smiled, but in the way that made it look like she was trying hard to hide it. "S'kinda grown on me or whatever."

Chris was positive she elbowed him in the stomach more than once on purpose. He grunted until she got situated, looking incredibly put upon.

" 'Course not. You're not just sunshine cause it sat it on your coat. It's gonna take more than a stupid division swap to change that."

I found one was enough to give him pause. He only managed a glimpse before Chel ducked back into the changing rooms, leaving her with the vision of a surprised, half-dubious and half-curious Jack. Rather than take a seat, he remained standing by the threshold to the changing room.

He said nothing as he eyed her, at first with the same studious looks he'd given every other time and then, unintentionally, a little more intensely as he imagined her with appropriate heels. He'd been avoiding more variable dresses like these on purpose, considering how uncomfortable she'd been in just the regular selections. "Did you check yourself in the mirror?" he asked.

Chel gave him a tilted head expression. "No. I mean kinda while I was changin', but not really. Why?"

"You look beautiful, that's why," he replied without an ounce of sarcasm.

"Nawww yer just sayin' that," she oozed back, running her hands down the lacy skirt a few times before returning to stroking her hair.

"I guess s'this one then?"

The look he gave her very much said he wasn't. "If you like it, it's got my seal of approval," Jack answered.

"Anythin' you like, I like," she told him triumphantly, sauntering back to the stall. "You can take pictures when I'm actually dolled up." She stuck her tongue out at the phrase and shut the door, changing out of the clothes.

When he'd paid and they were walking out, she took his hand and happily chirped, "Yer lucky you won that bet." Her head knocked against his side, overly affectionate now that they'd finished and she was free. "And I'm lucky I got you."

She could definitely believe photos would happen. A lot more than photos. He made a mental note to remind Chel not to let him rip it on their date, as was wont to happen if two enthusiastically distracted hunters didn't measure their strength.

Pretending to make a face at her sappiness, the act was broken by a little smile; Work Jack could finally rest now that their job was finished. "I don't need luck to win, remember?" he pointed out. "But I guess a little may have been involved when it came to you, if that's what you want to call it. I'd say it was inevitable."

"Anyways I'll grab the paperwork in a few days. Chris' birthday is comin' up so I'll be busy, but after that we can make like... official decision s**t."

She hoped using "we" wasn't too much, because it was making her think way too much. "You'll have to clear a whole afternoon for this s**t."
