"It's not spying when it's on Twitter." She did snort softly as the 'toneless robot' thing, and finished off what was left of her curry before she set her empty plate aside. "Oh, ******** them." She drawled. Claude pulled up one leg, letting her heel rest on the edge of the counter as she propped an elbow on her knee, and rested her head in her hand.

"Learn to walk before you run." In other words, maybe learning about friends and caring was logical, and easier to grasp, then jumping into the mysteries of love at the same time. Chance was curious about friends and love, and she was curious about how he was curious. Upbringings really did a number on people...she thought back to that conversation she had with Dawson.

"Well, it's not that I actually care," said Chance, emphasizing his word as he ate the last bite of his own curry. "about the opinion of someone who insults people behind a computer screen. That's just some lameass."

He set his own dish beside him and brushed his hands together, smiling beningly at Claude.

"Meaning the whole friends before lovers thing?" he asked dryly.

"Yeah." She replied to his dry question. Claude regarded him for a moment, pondering something. "Also...for someone who claims to like simplicity and to avoid messes..." She paused for a moment.

"Has it ever occurred to you that this curiosity for friendship and love is contradictory to your preferences?"

A pause.

"How so?" Chance asked, genuinely curious. "I'm not saying I want that sort of thing, I'm just interested in it as a whole. It's how people interact with one another that fascinates me."

It was a good thing she was patient, and that she liked Chance and that he was her friend. This was a prime example of why she was his friend and what the difference was between simply liking someone and being their friend. She didn't spend this much time or effort talking, much less explaining something like this, to someone.

He better appreciate this one day.

"You won't know anything about it unless you experience it for yourself." Claude replied simply. "You can ask, you can speculate, you can assume you have a grasp on it, but you won't. It differs from person to person." She seemed a bit amused, if not serious still. "If I've never eaten okra, I can't form a decision on whether I like it or not. I can ask for everyone's opinions on it, and I can observe people eat it, but that information I glean from it does not answer anything regarding my preference for okra until I eat it."

Chance listened with relative fascination to Claude's explanation. He may not have really wanted that sort of thing for himself, since he saw himself as incapable of experiencing said emotions in the first place - but it was certainly something interesting as a whole for a topic.

"Have you ever been in love?" he asked her curiously. "Do you have any like, information about what it feels like?"

She also gave him a bit of a look, though it wasn't as stern as it usually was. He was still asking despite her just saying he needed to experience it for himself. Definitely child like.

Endearing.

"A familial and platonic love, yes. A romantic love, no."

Chance gave her a slightly suspicious look that bordered on amusement. Or maybe it was a slightly amused look that bordered on suspicious.

"Have you ever come close to a romantic love?" he asked, setting aside his plate. "And who did you love platonically? What's the difference?"

Claude picked up her root beer, uncapping the bottle thoughtfully as she took another drink. She capped it once more, her eyes lidding as she idly rolled the bottle between her hands. "Mn..." This could be taken as a yes. "I lose myself when I gaze at her, and time means nothing when I do. She can be mysterious, and when I think I have her figured out, she goes and throws a curve ball. She keeps me on my toes, and I love that I can never peg her down. At times she can be calm and peaceful, but others she can be unforgiving and merciless. I never tire of her, and I'm in awe of her constantly."

Claude looked up at him.

"The sea and I are a perfect match." She deadpanned at him, and then was followed by a long moment of silence before she gave him a small grin.

Maybe she should feel bad for pulling his leg. She didn't. The unspoken answer to the romantic love question was no.

"As for platonic...a Caribbean boy." She answer, seriously this time, as expression simmered back into its usually impassive look. "I spent every summer in the Caribbean growing up. We were joined at the hip when I was there. Platonic love is chaste and non-sexual."

For a moment he just stared at her in utter silence.

Then he threw his (plastic) fork across the room, attempting to aim at her head.

"You little s**t," said Chance amicably as he rolled his eyes in Claude's direction. "You almost had me going there for a second, I thought you might have found someone you were into, and yet here you are, making a mockery of my observational studies."

He smirked at her, and then lifted his eyebrows. "...does it have to be chaste?" Chance asked curiously. "It's that like, the official definition? I mean, sex is just sex, can't you love someone and still have a good time with them without being romantically attached?"

Claude leaned a little to the right as the fork went sailing by her, and listened to the sound of plastic 'clacking' as it hit the counter and bounced a bit. "What are friends for." If not to be assholes and make mockery of things their friends wanted to know about.

Chance did pose an interesting question, though. She hummed softly in thought, uncapping her soda and taking another drink. After a moment she answered, "I believe the venerated core idea of platonic love is that you can feel close to someone and still have a good time with them without sex." Because society viewed sex as sin yadda yadda yadda society values bull s**t. Claude tilted her head.

"Are you referring to friends with benefits with that question?"

He flipped her the bird, just because he could, and because it seemed appropriate for the current situation.

A snort escape Chance's lips as he lifted his own soda. "I don't see why," he said, sounding slightly amused. "Sex is just sex, it's something that feels great and I would think that if you were friends with someone, you would want them to have a good time as much as you want to have a good time."

He shrugged one shoulder. "Although I suppose that's not the same for everyone, I realize there are people that like sex to just be romantic, which is perfectly acceptable; I just don't get it myself, really."

Claude gave him a small friendly wave in return for the finger.

She then nodded her head a bit in agreement, her eyes lidding as she looked off to the side for a moment, thinking about something. The trainee focused back on him, and replied simply, "Because you don't know anything else." It was non-accusatory. Just stating the truth.

She let that hang for a moment before she put her soda down and slid off the counter. Claude picked up her plate, and then moved across the way to grab Chance's empty plate. She carried them to the sink, and then prepared to start cleaning the dishes.

"Are you calling me stupid," Chance asked, but he knew she wasn't, a smirk on his lips as he added, "Okay, fine, maybe I don't know anything else, but that's the whole point of me asking these questions."

He didn't bother moving as she picked up his plate, instead swinging his legs out in front of him.

"I'm just curious by nature, you should know that by now."

Claude tossed him a small smirk over her shoulder.

"Yeah, I know." She replied, making quick work of the two plates and setting them off on the nearby wrack to dry. "I also re-emphasize my point. You'll get honest answers if you actually experience it for yourself." She moved over to the pot, peered inside it, and then went about looking for a small plastic container to store left overs.
