Gio yawned as he looked over and saw his Lucario sound asleep without a worry in the world. He shook his Pokemon to wake it up and Gio got his things ready before exiting the ship.
A thought crossed his mind as they stepped off, "Hey Lucario, what do you say we challenge Lt. Surge while we are here? I'm sure Electricty won't hurt Steel" a well rested nod met his question and so they wondered over to the Gym.
Upon entering Gio was abit surprised to find out that the place was practically empty spare a few trash cans and instructions explaining there were two buttons hidden in them. It took him quite abit of time but at last Gio was able to locate both buttons. He walked up to Lt. Surge. "The name is Giovanni Versechi and I'm going to show you why Electricty doesn't hurt Steel!"

Surge was screwing a loose bolt tighter on the gym's power generator with a wrench, but when he heard the electric gates power down, he paused, glancing over and lifting his sunglasses up. "Damn, that can't be good...." He frowned, grumbling and whacking the generator a few times with his wrench. He then realized that the rest of the gym's power was still on and working fine though, so it couldn't have been the generator. So either the power lines hooking the machine to the electric fence were damaged, or he had a challenger. Thankfully it was the latter. Surge stood as Gio entered his arena and challenged him, grinning a confident sneer. "You had me worried kid, I thought my gate was malfunctioning or something." Surge laughed. "Good to see it's just that you solved my little puzzle. Step on up. I've got your challenge right here!" He insisted, grabbing a pokeball off his belt and tossing it into the air to send out his pikachu. "This may come as a shock to you, but electricity does damage steel. We're gonna fry those shiny metal coats to rust, won't we pikachu?" Surge grinned to his partner. "Pika!~" She answered cheerily, showing of the powerful discharge in her cheeks.

Surge was a little more eager than he had expected, but Gio was not taken aback by his comments. "I hate to be the bearer of bad news there cheif but Steel doesn't rust that easy and I'll show you why" he prepped the Steelixite on his Mega Launcher and grabbed Rusty's Pokeball. "Come on out Rusty and show this guy we mean business" Rusty came out and roared and was met by Gio with his Mega launcher. "Let's go ahead and Mega Evolve now" a bright ball surrounded Rusty and out from it popped the Mega evolved form. There was no time for Gio to glamour in its wake however because he needed to try and finish this battle. "Let's shake this Gym to its core and hit them with an Earthquake big guy" the Gym rattled and it was a little apparent as Gio had to grab on to a pole to keep himself standing up

A steelix? Well that wasn't good. That ground type immunity was going to prove troublesome. "Heh, and here I thought you were serious about proving steel types. All you're doing with this guy is proving how ground types are immune to electric attacks, and I already knew that. You put some real steel on the battlefield and you wouldn't have it so easy." He pointed out. Nevertheless, the mega steelix was ordered to use earthquake. "Not so fast hotshot, pikachu, use Quick Attack!" Surge commanded, and the speedy little electric mouse zipped over to the slow steelix and slammed into it, not that it did much, but that was expected. Hey, it was better than zapping it with useless electricity. The earthquake still hit though, dizzying his poor pikachu and sending her toppling over from loss of balance. "You can do it girl, quick attack one more time before he tries to hit ya again!" He commanded, and the pickachu shook herself off in order to hit the monsterous steel snake once more.

Gio laughed at Lt Surge's comment. "Type advantage is everything, that's the glory of Steel Types. They have many different Types and many more defensive backings. You could say it's just versatility " the first quick attack came through. " In the words of Jasmine, well tempered Steel won't rust to this" then the next quick attack. They didn't do a whole lot of damage but they added up. "Come on Rusty, shake them up abit more and show them what it means to get grounded out by a Steel Type. Earthquake again!" Gio like Surge already. He seemed a little easier to work up than most Gym Leaders here in Kanto. There was Brock who pretty much said his Pokemon weren't strong enough to beat Misty. Then he did beat Misty whom was a little flirty and not to upset to lose. How would Surge turn out?

" He shot a finger pointing to the Gym Leader across from him. " Chill him out Rusty and hit him with an Ice Fang to show them we don't need Ground Type attacks" the sheer size of the looming Steel Type was enough to know the bite that was coming down was enough to do some damage, for Rusty launched forward and clamped down onto the Electric Pokemon leaving it completely frozen. "Electricty won't save you here Surge, you are outmached."

Lol it's just payback for what I did with Whitney xDDD I got lucky with that thaw roll, but because of that I noticed you didn't roll to see if Voltorb would have flinched. I know it seems unnecessary because it got frozen but situations like this where it thaws the next turn are exactly why you want to roll for both anyways lol. Don't worry about it this time, I took the liberty of rolling for you, but for future reference. Also you need to change Rusty's ability to Sand Force since he's a mega right now. It's currently still Sheer Force.

He remarked with a grin. "It's best to pummel your opponent with everything you've got, cause you know they'd do the same to you!" He got rather energetic, punching a fist into his other open palm and looking excited but menacing before calming down again and making his point. "I'm just saying if your goal is to show off the power of steel types, you're doing a piss poor job of it." Surge smirked. "The only way to do that is to use and beat me with a pure steel type, maybe throw in a steel type move every now and then, or at least don't rely completely on ground type advantage to get the job done and claim it's showing off steel. At least Jasmine's Steelix knows iron tail. You have yet to even show off one steel move." He suggested. "Flash cannon can pack quite a punch too. I saw a few of those in the war. It was brutal!" He laughed. A gyro ball wasn't too bad either, especially against heavy opponents. Gio seemed provoked enough to at least change up his strategy and use an ice fang on them instead of earthquake, which did a number on his voltorb and froze it solid. This seemed to make Gio a bit cocky, suggesting that electricity wouldn't save him and that he was outmatched. Surge laughed at that. "Oh really? Take another look kid." He suggested, gesturing to his voltorb, which was already using electricity to warm and fry the ice away. Eventually it broke through and rolled forward into another hard tackle against the steel snake's body. "Shocked? Yeah, you learn to pick up a few tricks in a war. This voltorb and I have been though a lot, so you're going to have to try a little harder than that." Surge challenged.

Gio gave a smirk as Surge agreed that straight out pummeling was the way to go but it quickly turned into a face of displeasure as the Gym Leader said he was doing a poor job of showing off his Types. Even going as far as to use Jasmine in his statement, before pointing out that his Voltorb was clearly shockingly hot enough to break right through the ice. "Hey I'll have you know that Jasmine raised me in her Gym and I learned everything I needed from her!" he retorted a little angrily. If Surge wanted to see a real battle he would get it but first he needed to take care of this Voltorb. "Rusty let's push along and hit them up with another Earthquake" it seemed like it was just enough to finish off the Voltorb. A sharp and happy thumb swiped across Gio's nose before he flipped his hat backwards "Fine Surge you wanna see Steel I'll show it to you. I can't very go and make Jasmine look bad can I?" he grabbed Rusty's ball "You did good Rusty but me have a little more metal to prove, return" and as soon as the beam shot out and the Steel Type was gone he replaced it with his Aegislash's "Come on out Aegislash, let's cut through this battle" the dual type Pokemon came out and pranced around seemingly more than ready for battle.

Unfortunately that also mean Gio pushing out another earthquake. If this kid did too much property damage to his gym, he was gonna pay for it. "Tch. Typical." Surge sighed, having expected the ground type move. He returned his voltorb and made to grab his next pokeball, but then Gio seemed to finally concede to show some real steel, at least for Jasmine's sake. He returned the mega in favor of an aegislash, and surge grinned. "Now we're talkin'!" Surge grinned, admiring the sword and cracking his knuckles. Now they were in for a real fight. "I picked my Aegislash to try and finish this off because you never know what you are going to get. It's the best of both worlds offensive and defensive you never know which you are gonna see" the finger came back and met a smile that once again swiped at his nose

I agree with that, even in the anime or manga I saw him as a very militistical minded person. Where, except by Ash's Godly Pikachu, was probably the quickest Trainer around. Using his Pokemon's speed to get into the heads of his opponent's and further demoralizing them with Electricity (yes I had a lot of bad battles with Surge as a kid -.-)

"Standing for now, but take this on for size Aegislash use Iron Head!" the Ghost type charded forward switching formes and rammed the Gym Leaders final Pokemon causing it to flinch. Gio noticed the flinch, "High time to teach you Surge, Aegislash again" same as before once the attack landed it was obvious that the Raichu was feeling dizzy because it flinched again. "Aegislash I want you to finish strong use Sacred Sword" the Steel Types blade glew a bright orange at it shot down landing a direct hit. It seemed like with that hit though just enough electricity was released to paralyze Aegislash.

Surge watched carefully how Gio's aegislash began to slam headbutts unto his raichu. "Oh, so your pokemon do know some steel moves after all!" He jeered, arms folded. Raichu was tough, so he cold take more than a few of those iron heads, but he couldn't help flinching as they came to defend himself. By the time Gio switched his tactics up and used Sacred Sword though, Raichu was getting a bit tired of the constant stream of attacks, and let out a few sparks when the sword struck, allowing the static to work it's magic and paralyze the annoying steel type. "Now it's our turn." Surge smirked. "Raichu, hit it with another thunderbolt!" Surge commanded, attempted to lay the electricity on thick so that the sword would be fully paralyzed and unable to attack, as well as take advantage of the fact that it was no longer defending itself.

"Aegislash quick guard it with King's Shield " thankfully for Gio the paralysis wasn't that bad. Aegislash was able to block the oncoming bolt of electricity and switch back to Shield forme. " Not gonna lie, you are quick Surge. Your reputation doesn't lie about that, but you aren't quick enough for me." he shot a jesting smirk towards the Gym Leader. "This particular Aegislash was given to me by a local in Pewter City after he saw me battle Brock. He has years of experience behind him. So it didn't surprise me to find out just how strong he truly was. En garde Surge I wanna see just how you plan on frying my Steel Types." he held himself poised and flipped his hat back forward before sliding a hand up to his face as if he was pondering something. "I mean if you can still shock me that is" Gio hoped that maybe now he would be able to get under Surge's skin a little. The property damage mixed with the continuous foiled attacks had to be doing something. Either that or Surge really was just that good at keeping his cool
