constellation sensation
Chance just made a noise of impatience and kept dragging her along rather unceremoniously. When they actually reached the flat part of the beach where they could walk without falling, he slowed his steps, but didn't remove his fingers from around her wrist.
"The sky is very open out here," Chance informed Claude as he walked. "It's got an amazing view, and I just want to see if we can - there!"
He stopped and pointed upwards, a blanket of blue-black above their heads and dotted every which way with, not just a sprinkling, but a veritable dousing of glowing white stars.

It was a good thing he didn't bring his other foot up to her side, because then she'd have both of his ankles, and she'd pull him out of his chair.
"I think not." She murmured, idly swatting back at his foot with her own under the table. "If you're not the comic relief, Chance, than what are you?"

Good to know. Claude ended up hanging back towards the entrance. Not that it wasn't interesting, because it was, but she definitely didn't have as much as an appreciation as Chance did, since she wasn't an artist. It was a small store though, and for only a sketchbook, Chance seemed to be taking a while. Not a in rush, but simply curious, she did end up looking for him.
The armful of supplies was rather humorous. In for one thing, out with many more. Claude was about to point that the non-artist shouldn't be picking out the material, but decided against it. The young woman knelt near the pile of sketchbooks, peering down at them contemplatively before she started going through them, one at a time.
After a few moments she held one up. Leather bound, and with stars stamped into the leather. Her brow was quirked in question.

When Chance knelt, Claude waded a bit deeper into the waves, letting the water come up to below her knees. She watched him as he drew in the sand. Alright. Claude hummed softly in thought, and her eyes drifted off towards the far end of the beach.
"Do you find a lack of understanding unpleasant?"

Chance looked at her, she looked at him. A moment went by. She flicked his nose for the light patronizing, and followed it up with a small smirk.
"Yes." She brushed past him, and into the open door of the shop. She gave a small nod to the shop keep and moved around a large shelf of Caribbean antiques towards the window display. It looked sturdy and worn without being ratty, which she thought was important, given their...career. She picked it up by the brim, and looked it over, turning it this way and that.

constellation sensationShe in return just made a soft amused sound, and continued along for the ride, not minding being led by her wrist still despite the slowing pace. As he spoke, her eyes went up towards the sky, and it clicked. Ah. Right. Of course she knew he loved stars, but it seemed to have escaped her until now that he'd want to see it while they were here. The Caribbean was one of the best places in the world to star gaze after all. She had told him that. Her eyes followed the line of his arm as she stopped, and her head tilted. The sky was definitely prettier here than on Deus. It was hard to see anything at night with the haze and the glow of runes that managed the buildings. It was easy to get lost up there. "It's beautiful." She murmured.

"You're being awfully negative about my whole plan for a fun reality TV show," Chance said in a deadpan voice as the waiter came back a few minutes later, sliding their plates of steaming food in front of them.
"And I would be the charming intellectual type, most definitely," he added, smirking as he picked up the fork.

"Ow," Chance complained, rubbing his nose; but he followed her inside anyway, a smirk on his own face. Claude went straight for the hat in question, and he gave it a glance over her shoulder, eyes narrowing slightly as he took in every little detail of it curiously.
"Well," he said, "It's definitely you. Try it on?"

To be fair, Chance probably would have taken a while even if it was just a regular store, because he liked to meander and take his time to look over each and every thing carefully. Not exactly slow, but just casual seemed to be his way of thinking for all things.
And also fortunately for Claude, it was less that Chance considered himself an artist, and more that he considered himself just someone who liked to draw. He gave the sketchbook a once-over and then beamed, reaching out to pluck it from her fingers.
"Perfect," he said grandly, and wound his way through the crowded aisles to the cashier, where he promptly dumped all of his purchases to be rung in.
"Good eye, captain."

There was a somewhat peculiar silence as Chance considered this.
"...sometimes," he said, half a hum escaping him as he put his hands on his knees and looked up at her. "Though it's more of an annoyance than a displeasure, so I'm not quite sure that counts."

If there was anything at all in the world that Chance was passionate about, it was this - the endless and vastness of the stars that stretched overhead, and it showed in his eyes, which glittered a little more brightly in the moonlight. For a few moments, he was silent as he stared up at them, getting himself lost in them.
He let go of her wrist and slid his arm around her shoulders instead in an almost absentminded gesture, turning his head this way and that.
"It's fantastic, isn't it?" Chance said, sounding a little breathless as he stared. "I never get sick of looking at it, any of it."

Claude let out something of an incredulous snort at that. Charming intellectual type. When their food was delivered, it was then she relinquished her hold on his ankle so that she could eat as well. Picking up her own fork, she deadpanned back, "Perfect. Reality shows now a days are staged anyways."
She then rolled some spaghetti around her fork and took a bite.

She scrutinized it for a few moments longer, but the answer was already obvious, even without having to try it on. She would though, because it was just common sense to try on something before buying it. She seemed pleased at the assessment it was her, and turned the hat over. Claude pressed her hand into the cap to smooth and push it out before she flipped it into her head.
It felt like perfection.
"It's the one." A hand pulled on the brim to tilt it one way, and before Chance had an opportunity to be a smart a**, she added. "I'm sure."

After Chance took the sketchbook, Claude stayed by the pile, and resumed going through it, waving one hand at him. All the sketchbooks had different designs stamped into it, and the quality of them seemed rather nice, that she found herself with an urge to get one as well. She had no clue what she'd do with it, as she didn't draw, nor was the journal keeping type...but it wouldn't hurt to just have it. As she once said to her brother: it was the little things.
Towards the end of the pile she found one with a ship in a bottle stamped into the leather. It was that one she had in hand as she came up behind Chance to purchase after him.
"Going to draw all the French girls?" She asked him evenly, though she was, of course, teasing.

The silence draw Claude's attention back to Chance, and she regarded him with a curious tilt of her head.
"Ah." She uttered in reply, and lapsed into another thoughtful silence. She was filing away every answer for later. "Do you find any little things unpleasant?"
