He slipped the arms out before picking up the knife again. "We slide the fur down a little more. Then we cut the head off." With his free hand, he pulled the fur to hang down, exposing the neck. In one smooth moment, he cleanly sliced the head off. With it came the fur. He set the hide down on the counter. "From here it's easy. Just break the joints, and slide off the fur around the paws." He set down the knife, taking a leg in both hands. In a quick 'pop' it snapped, and he dropped it to move on to the next, then the next.

Evilsilverdragon
lmao, it's almost done.

She thought when she cut off the head it would be easier, though after the cut there was a pregnant pause followed by a measured breath. Then she heard the popping of broken bones. There was a flinch as she twisted her eyes closed a few breaths. It was almost done. This didn't hurt the rabbits. Repeating that in her mind she kept it going like a broken record as she managed to pull the fur off. Once it was off it got put over the bunny's face. That actually helped.

Tartara Seabreeze
Menolly will be relieved.

As he finished up, he began gathering the small bits of skin from the feet together to dump into the bin. The main body fur he set aside to later tan, as he used them towards merchants who wouldn't take his I.O.U's. He then moved to stand right next to the angel. "Remember, one firm slice to remove the head. Try not to saw, as it makes it even more unpleasant."

Glancing to the demon as he stood next to her, she figured he was there to help if she lost her nerve for all of this. It was a fair idea none of this was pleasant for her even if she enjoyed the demon's company. There was a mental note if she was invited in again, to check if he had anything that looked like an animal. Those were times it was best to come back. His skill was nothing to disparage and certainly her own father probably did this without any trouble.

Thinking on it, Menolly came to the conclusion he and her daddy would make great friends if they ever met. Raken seemed just the type of pae that would get along great with Kurt.

Offering him a smile she nodded her head and gave the troublesome bang another stiff puff of air to try and get it out of her eyes. Said action failed but at least it didn't cause her any stress. What was, was. Trying to follow his instructions she went to work silently.

The stern expression on her face was a giveaway that this wasn't her idea of fun. A corner of his mouth flicked up in a small smile as she removed the head and the rest of the fur. He respected that she still did it though, as it was an important lesson. "I can take over from here if you'd like. You can sit in a chair over there and we can still talk while I prep the meat for cooking."

Evilsilverdragon
rofl Kurt and Raken friends? Neeevveerrr! That just makes it so much more awesome when she finds out.

Her manners were too good, she was raised so much better than this. The moment he made the offer she almost jumped back like the now very viscerally dead rabbit had gotten up and started doing the can-can. Embarrassed with herself, she moved to turn on the water, something that was both very familiar and very strange. First step was cleaning her hands.

"I can help with anything else you need." Her brilliant smile followed hiding how much she was relieved to be done with the task. Once the water was on, hot water hit with her elbow, she quickly scrubbed her hands. Hardly stopping there, up to the elbows were cleaned with hot water for a few minutes until she was close to satisfied. This would require another bath in the near future. Still, she was being so very rude!

Taking the knife she had used, the angel immediately felt like this should have come first. Cleaning the instrument and drying it, the item was placed away safely before she turned around again smiling. "Is there anything else I can help cut up, vegetables maybe?" Cooking she could do, easier if she knew the kitchen better. As inept as it had to seem, she had to try harder to make up for her behavior.

The demon bit back a laugh as she jumped back, surprising himself. Her high energy was contagious. Since Kurt or his family wasn't around, it felt nice having another pae as company. "An acceptable idea. I have some carrots in the cupboard, just up and to the right. Along with a sack of potatoes." A hearty meal. Meanwhile he got down to deboning, which included cutting the rabbit into pieces, filleting the spine and pushing out the ribs.

It made him nostalgic of cooking at home with his grandchildren. "Would you rather a stew, or a roast?"

Cheerfully, Menolly went to gathering the items as he directed humming a little bit as she did so. The sight of the rabbits, now looking more like the meat she remembered than the cute fluffy things, no longer bothered her. His question came with an immediate answer, "Roast!" This was followed by an embarrassed chuckle as she added, "I vote roast but stew is very nice too." Her hand briefly touched the back of her head before it dropped and she washed her hands again. He was being so kind to respond as she did was just not nice.

Work to be done, there was hardly a pause before on to the next task. Starting first with washing everything he pointed out she asked, "Potato skins on or off?" She was used to eating with the skins on but it was rude to assume he was the same. Carrots were less complicated, a quick run of the knife before a practiced hand started chopping equal sized pieces.

"A roast for the lady." He spoke with a nod before moving to the cooking fire. Out of the closest drawer he pulled out the kindling, and carefully placing it down took to striking two stones for their sparks. "Leave the skins on. They're full of natural nutrients for a healthy body." Strike three, strike four, strike five, there! A spark caught and he gently blew into it while sliding in a log of wood. Soon he had a nice cackling fire, the dark smoke disappearing up and out through the chimney. "I chose to live my life with wasting as little as possible. The fur can be used for clothing or resell at the vendors who provided me the rabbit, bones made into bone meal for plants. Even the stalks of the carrots you cut can be breathed new life by making fertilizer."

Skin on it was. Scrubbing the potatoes thoroughly she set to work quartering the potatoes to help them cook thoroughly. All the while she listened to everything he had to say and added her own knowledge. He probably already knew and even as the words came out of her mouth she was starting to feel silly, "You can regrow a lot of the food too. A little chunk of potato with the eyes on it can grow new potatoes!" Living in a tree for a little while taught her a lot, somewhere far away there was a little pang remembering that life.

While an expert hunter, growing things was never his forte. So at the new information, he nodded thoughtfully. "Really? Fascinating. I know it works with certain plants...what other food items does that work with?" As he spoke he worked, getting a pan and spices out for dressing the rabbit. Always moving, multitasking was easy for the demon.

Bolstered by his interest in what little she knew, Menolly happily parroted things from long ago. "Oh lots! Most herbs, celery, lettuces, tomatoes, peppers." There was a pause as she looked up working her memory. "Green onions, scallions.." Trailing off, the angel mentally debated if they were the same thing or not. Looked the same but for some reason she was thinking they were two different things. "Carrots don't regrow, but you can grow more carrot greens, same with the other root veggies if you like them." The bitter flavor wasn't on her top list of things to eat but it was an option.

"Pineapple takes a long time but you can." That was plentiful on the ground but up here was a little bit of a different story. "Following that, you can regrow garlic, sweet potatoes and normal onions. Most other fruits too!" There was probably more, a great project in the future to try and see what else can be regrown.

He started to cut into the fresh herbs, but as she listed items the male had to stop and simply stare at her. It was like a list that was ingrained into her brain. Raken blinked at her when she finished her recollection. Kurt had the most peculiar way of getting excited about a subject and rambling, similar to what he'd just witnessed only with his alpaca's. Surely no familial ties there, but an amusing observation nonetheless. "That is quite a lot of different types. I take it you're fond of gardening. Perhaps if I ever get to leave the City you could provide me some pointers."

With a nod and a little cheer she affirmed."Yep! My Momma liked gardening, and I lived in a tree-house for a little while, had to be smart with planting." The memories of both brought fondness and sorrow both in diminishing amounts. The farther from the memories the more just the loss was felt. It was hard to think of her twin and all the hugs without noticing the lack in her life now.

Her golden gaze drifted to the purple streak in her hair, it reminded her of her mother, a little piece she inherited.

It wasn't in her to remain down so she quickly added, "I look forward to helping! It has been a while since I've been down there myself." Was her family down there waiting for her?

Even if her voice was chipper, the darkening of sorrow crept onto her face, missed if he hadn't stopped to stare at her. His first instinct was to ignore it as he didn't deal with emotions. The second was to address it as to apologize. But as thoughts flashed faster than light through his mind, he went back to not acknowledging it. Obviously her way of dealing with it was to smother it, and he'd respect her wishes. After all, he'd be sad mentioning his mother too.

So the best route was to simply change subjects and keep busy to rebury it. "A help you've been. I see the potatoes are quartered nicely, how are the carrots coming along?" He himself returned to slicing the fresh parsley.
