I think it was the lineart that got me. I'm not very fond of the very masculine-overdriven style of American comics.

excerpt: http://www.theartofcomics.com/rich/Lloyd1.jpg

Really it's all on who looks at it. That page doesn't look so bad, but the book they had, if I remember correctly, was in color. And it looked ugly that way.

Now I understand what you mean... It looks like those comics out of those newspapers and being colored would kinda make it look messy. Oh well. Thanks by the way 3nodding

Actually, some of the scenes (especially the ones that take place in the clubs) are really aided by color. Creates a mood and all that. Although the art did make it somewhat difficult to remember sub-characters (or maybe I just wasn't paying close enough attention). I'm not usually a huge fan of american animation, but this one had some really nice moments (but just for the record, David Lloyd, the artist, draws really ugly/disturbing women). I haven't gone to see the moie yet, as
a) I wanted to finish the graphic novel first. My biggest pet peeve is seeing a movie, but not reading the source material. It's lazyness
b) It's not at the 'cheap seats' yet. And I'm tight with my money

I did notice the women were ugly. And I agree some scenes are aided with color, but I still have a thing against that dot-ink coloring style.

I'm actually that way too. It kills me to see something without seeing the original/reading the book/comic/whatever. S'why I wanted V for Vendetta ahead of time, but I wasn't very interested in standing the art for the most part, so I got the synopsis and just said hell with it. Same with Memoirs of a Geisha and the upcoming Da Vinci Code movie.

Ah. Well, the comic was a little confusing at times, so maybe you were better off with the synopsis. Moore switches between the side characters (in the head, the finger, etc.) quite often, and they're all pretty similar in terms of character design. You just sort of cling to the scenes with V in them (since he's the most easily recognizable) and go with the flow.

Phantom of the Anarchy...

And that one scene just made me laugh. "JUST KIDDING!" Yeah, that's V.

Awww the beautiful alliteration *drools* Hugo Weaving's voice was amazingly good to be behind the mask. Anyone who hasn't seen this movie SHOULD, my gosh they should. This movie IS AMAZING, and you should join the guild. But do note, this was a comic before it was a movie, and they are very, very different from each other. I can tell all of the differences or most of them, if anyone wants to know. ^_^

Well of course they're going to be different. Perfect example if PotO the original novel and the famous ALW Musical. Both loved in their own respects but very, very different.

But, they're different genres altogether so total comparison isn't fair.

are you kidding me? It was TOTALLy PoTO related, I mean it screamed it for goodness sake! He's a genius of sorts dedicated to a cause, you could say the phantom was only dedicated to his arts before he met Christine, and Evy totally changed V's life made it meaningful. They even qouted Faust!!! and what about all the music? all the art? I mean I tittered insansly in the begininng where he "composed" the music/explosion (the overture of 1812 I was told). He even leaves a rose with people when he kills them, and he sort captures Evy and brings her to his "lair" and forces her stay there *wiggles persuasive eyebrow* huh? huh? Sure, the story itself doesn't relate much to PoTO but there are definantly some strong habitual characteristics that can relate V and Erik together.

On that note I LOVED this movie and anybody who hasn't seen it must! It's right up there on my favorite comic movies (just below batman begins) and considering it was based off an old comic it makes me want to go and find it >.>....

I was doing that too when I saw it. Too awesome. @w@ I was really surprised when I found out that it was Arwen's Papa (or whoever he plays) who was behind the mask. domokun

That's true, I suppose. But there's also something to be said for being relatively faithful. I understand letting things out when you're adapting a book, lest it be a six hour movie. V, on the other hand, was relatively short. It could easily have added things in and probably have been fine. I'm sure when I actually see the movie I'll end up overlooking the differences, so long as it's a quality film.

I'm renting it on Monday.
:3
Yay for cheap movies on Monday's at Hy-Vee!
I'm extra excited about it, now that I know that someone says,
"He lives underground like the Phantom of the Opera".
XD
It reminds me of when I got excited when poto was mention on Family Guy and the Simpsons.

Yes, even my Mom thought it wa slike POTO. She said "so, it's like Phantom of the Opera? But the girl is cool and doesn't rip his mask off?"
I said : "Yeah, pretty much".
My Mom rocks.

Being a fan of both works I can see the superficial similarities but the body of the two works in visual and intented meaning are very different.

I love V for Vendetta. I must say that there are a lot of similarities in the movie to PoTO, but even more in the original graphic novel (which I must say that is so much better.) Ooh! Has anyone seen "The Phantom of the Opera Vs. V" flash? I was looking on google for a video once, I was just trying to hear the song "This Vicious Cabaret" in anyway I could, and found this really cruddy little flash that brough a smile to my face. Here it is for anyone who hasn't seen it yet:
