Curious she was, but she didn't care that much right now, so she left it at that. "To find my brother." She answered. While she didn't particularly care to tell stories, she figured this did require a bit more context for reasoning. "He disappeared. Didn't say a word, so I went looking for him. He's here."

"I bet he's pissed you followed." Ever shrugged as he settled back, cigarette done and nicotine happily filling his veins. Absently, he flipped the pages of his book again, eyes narrowed in a thoughtful way. "I would be pretty mad if my sister showed up, I think. Assuming she gave up a pretty decent and normal life for it. Like Yale."

That correct assessment earned Ever an amused snort from Claude. "He is, or was." She paused, and tilted her head, curiosity piqued once more. "Don't tell me you didn't tell your sister, either?" A brow quirked. "Also, it's quite possibly she's equally as mad you disappeared in the first place." Assuming Ever's sister cared.

"I haven't seen my sister..." He paused, eyebrows pulling together while he thought about it, hand actually going still on the book. It was something that he had to think about it, count back the years. Things had a tendency to blur together. "My grandmother died, I went to the funeral. Four years ago? Five? I don't know. Anyway, we barely interacted anyway, I was too busy getting into fist fights." He came slowly into focus, eyebrows raised. "I doubt they even know I'm dead, it's not like they check in on me. So she probably has no idea."

Claude gave a thoughtful hum. She supposed when...or if...Ever's sister did check, then she possibly could be upset. Ever expressing he'd be mad if his sister showed up possibly held the argument for some capacity of caring...she imagined, maybe, it went the other way as well, even if they hadn't seen each other in a long time. This was all speculation though, and that's where it'd stay. "It can only be a matter of time though..." Claude murmured, turning her head to look out the window briefly. Ever bringing up his family and his 'death' made her wonder what her father and step-mother were up to with 'both of their children dead'. Hm. Maybe something for display, but then maybe it was business as usual. She found she didn't care. After a moment of contemplative silence she asked, "Do you like being here?"

"Here on the island? Or here, a part of Deus?" It sounded like semantics, but judging from Ever's expression, it was an important distinction; one that made him shift, idly, where he sat. Not quite able to get comfortable. Now that he was thinking about it, little moves pulled at the scar tissue on his abdomen, and he couldn't quite drive away the memory.

Claude pondered that for a moment. It was an important distinction indeed. She liked being here on the island...but as far as being a part of Deus went..."Both." She replied. She was curious how he felt about both of those distinctions, all things considered.

"It's interesting, at the very least." Maybe he was being evasive, or maybe it was just honest. He couldn't help but shrug, looking down again as he said it, "The living quarters are nice, now that I'm out of the basement, even if there's still torture equipment in my room." The smallest quirk of a smile as he said it; Ever tried not to give into the humor of the idea. "There are very few people that I genuinely hate, although very few I genuinely trust, too. I don't know." A pause. "In the end, it's not much different from home, either. Just higher stakes. Don't you think?"

A small nod in agreement. Interesting at the very least indeed. The basement coming up was amusing too. She heard so many stories about the basement. As he reached the end though, Claude let out something of a small incredulous snort. "No." She deadpanned at him. "I don't think it's like home at all." Something in her tone indicated some form of awe that he'd even make the comparison. Even if their home situations were the opposite ends of the spectrum, what went on outside the island had nothing on being on the island, for too many reasons to list. Big and small.
