Answering the question in the guild announcement, I think a "death of flash" topic would be very useful, as it's something that comes up a lot now.

Thank you for keeping this up, Platonix!

I'd likely seldom read the ATA if I had to go weed through the actual thread.
Used to. Got tired of all the crap / groupie comments.
"What's your favorite cookie?"
"How many pens do you have at your desk?"
"Do you like pizza?"
BLEH!

I do kinda like the abnormal questions - but only if the question itself is actually interesting. xD I don't care if Gaia staff likes pizza. However, I do wonder when their last food fight was and who won.

I don't.
I don't mind having information / trivia about the staff and their work place.
I just don't feel ATS is the right venue for that.

Back when I used to try to follow the ATA thread and when there were some serious issues going on on Gaia (lies by staff, negative changes etc) it seemed like the "fluff" questions were utilized as a convenient diversion and smoke screen.

"Yes, I DO like chocolate chip cookies".
"My cat's name if Fluffy. She is SO cute!"
"Yes, I liked the new Batman movie".

But what about (serious issue)?

"Sorry! That's all the time we have for today. See you next week!"

You make an excellent point. I'm glad the old CEO is out now though - the site seems to have a lot more trust between users and admins again. There's obviously a lot of left over issues, but at least they seem to be addressing them now.

And you're definitely right about the ATA not being the right place for questions like that. Problem is...it's really the only venue where we can ask questions at all and get a response in a reasonable amount of time. Would just be nice if there was like a limit of personal questions that they would respond to. Like each staff member needs to answer 5 different users, and only 1 can be a personal question (or something like that).

But then we'd be getting way too strict about something that's mostly just for fun and feedback, so... xP

It's not the proper venue and it doesn't have to be the only venue.
That is totally up to Gaia. They could easily create a thread dedicated to those kinds of questions just like they make other threads when they want feedback on specific topics. Staff could answer the questions as they had time / desire to do so.

And though not centralized another venue that exists is some staff post journal entries about themselves and/or answer questions people ask them in profile comments.

I am glad for the management changes and agree there is probably more trust now.
But a lot of damage has been done and I am much more indifferent about Gai than I used to be. There was a time when I was very engaged in the aquarium community, site feedback, sometimes got excited over a new avi item or a new fish or a new game.....

But gold generators and inflation wiped out my riches from literally hundreds of hours spent on my tanks. An endless stream of "gotta have new items" left me very jaded about new items. A repeated pattern of introducing new games with much fanfare and then investing my time in them only to have the game pulled ("our sponsor / partner changed their mind" ) or have the game abandoned left me indifferent to the games. They can't even be bothered to add new artwork to the jigsaw game even though they outright own literally thousands of graphics. I've been here over 10 years and I think they have added new puzzle photos two or three times.

So now most days I spend a bit of time in the news forum discussing current news and do very little else on the site. I can't remember the last time I changed my avi, purchased GC or in general gave a s**t about just about anything on the site.

I'd love to see the site improve - which it probably will.
I'd love to have that warm fuzzy happy feeling about Gaia back - which I probably won't.

I feel like this is reflective of the way a lot of Gaians feel. sweatdrop The last few years have eroded a lot of the fun and joy from the site, and now, people only come to talk to friends or discuss things that interest them. The site itself and the features seem to constantly screw you over, so why bother? xD

And for me this isn't one of those, "I liked Gaia when I was little but then I outgrew it" stories.
I'm in my 50s and haven't changed much in the past 10 years in terms of my likes.

since I joined this guild I actually enjoy Ask the staff.

I could only backread through ATS because they're in the wrong timezone for me, back reading is sorta boring when they never answer a question you see posted or never answer any question you posted in the pre event threads (I did ask questions I saw answered weeks later when people live in the ATS were able to ask them)

Back reading here is just quick and to the point, makes me happy smile

Thank you for your effort! >,<

somethings not right with tipping in guilds, it sends you to another screen then you have to go back searching for the guild again
screenshot below
User Image

also if you use the search box to go to a guild from the NAVBAR search only you get 2 mm's in the address bar instead of one like gaiaonline.comm instead of gaiaonline.com
this guild for me comes up as
https://www.gaiaonline.comm/guilds-home/asked-the-staff-answer-archive/g.427223/?_gaia_t_=4702

this only happens from that search bar, all the other places work
User Image

if you could fix these two things it would be awesome. TY in advance

I like the personal questions to give a kind of "face" to the staff, but it would be nice if each staff member had their own thread where we could ask that kind of thing and hope for a response. The comments on their journals could serve that purpose, where they make a new entry each week or two (or even once a month) to answer comments made over the previous week(s). That would be so cool! But it would build less community that way, and the personal stuff is a nice way for us all to join the conversation together. Plus it might easily become overwhelming if folks could post comments all the time (and you know some would spam the same questions daily in hopes of getting a response more often).

Anyway, thank you for all the work you do for us here!

I only pop in once in a while to say it because it feels repetitive but -
Thank you for continuing to do the ATS summaries.
I've also been enjoying the direct link you started putting in the announcements some while back.

I'm not very emotionally invested in Gaia these days but I still like to stay informed about what is going on and have preferred the streamlined Asked the Staff version for.. well I think literally years now.

Sometimes I wonder which will close first - Gaia or my local K-Mart.
Both appear to be a shadow of their former selves, struggling with a reduced staff to adequately serve a greatly reduced customer base.

I really should thank Platonix for collecting so much news in one place. So, thank you!

And David, platforms like Gaia take a long time to die. If this were an expensive MMORPG, maybe, it would be shut down in a hurry, but Gaia, the worst we have to worry about is maintenance mode. Gaia has enough ad views per page, and enough revenue streams, that it can survive with next to no staff. Lanzer has the site back after years of maintenance mode, actually, and is updating the backend enough that if he leaves, the site can chug along cheaply for more years without him.

So, what I worry about, is that Lanzer is here for the challenge, and will leave once the site works well.
