He'd already made up his mind that the two people that Arorangi cared most for on the island were Lydia and Oliver. It was just so easy to be around the both of them, and their vast differences in nature only made their friendships better and more diverse - not to mention that there was something strange about Lydia in general that just made Arorangi wish to draw nearer to her.

(He hastily pushed that thought out of his mind. It was too complex.)

"Yes, I remember this song from school!" he said brightly and beamed at Lydia. "If I recall, it is a very upbeat and positive song, I think it is very cheerful and it will be very fun to sing with you!"

The screen brightened as the words scrolled, and Lydia, although not operatic in her tone, had a somewhat pleasant, quiet sort of voice. It wasn't as bubbly as her normal personality, but it certainly had its appeals, and Arorangi grinned at her, bouncing up and down on the hells of his feet.

He joined in after a few seconds, his deep voice low and mellow - but he was slightly off beat, wobbling grandly through the song with the sort of enthusiastic singing that could only be found in Arorangi Te Ariki.

Arorangi could have picked a song that Lydia had never heard of in her life and she likely would have gone along with it simply because of his broad smile and rather addictive enthusiasm. She could have fumbled her way through it, if necessary, and she knew that he wouldn't mind, or make fun of her for it, or make her feel in any way out of place at all (all awkwardness was strictly due to her own insecurities and nothing to do with him).

When the song began she was eager enough to sing the words as they came on screen, even if in a much more subdued tone then she typically used while speaking. When Arorangi joined her, she turned and grinned at him while still singing along, quite liking the deep and mellow tone of his own voice as he sang. He had a lovely singing voice, one that gave her a pleasant shiver that she didn't really understand, but that she found she liked.

The song came to an end, and still grinning, she let out a laugh and returned her microphone, before slipping a hand around Arorangi's arm.

"Can we sing another one?" She asked, eyes wide and bright.

He was having one of the best nights he'd had in a long time, if he cared to admit it. Good food, good company, good night, good singing (sort of). As cliche as it sounded, all of that combined together made for quite a wonderful evening, even if it wasn't perfect. But it didn't have to be perfect, and that was the beauty of the thing.

Arorangi peered sideways at Lydia while he was singing, grinning at her as he went from one word to the next. He gave her hand another squeeze and then let go, sliding a broad arm around her shoulders instead and hauling her against his side so that he could sway back and forth with her.

The song ended with the pair of them holding out the last notes as much as the could, and then Arorangi burst into laughter, lowering the microphone.

"Yes, yes," he said excitedly. "Another one is excellent! Please, you pick this time, aroha, and I will sing along with your lovely voice!"

Lydia was beaming again as she tugged Arorangi back towards the song selection area, not that she really needed to tug him to make him follow, but she was really too excited to think about things like that. This was proving to be a wonderful evening, a distraction that she hadn't even known that she needed away from studies and research. Rorric was singing and chirping away happily in her mind, glad to see his human having such a genuinely good time, and wishing he could join in as well, though she assured him that he was there with them, even if they couldn't see him or if Aro couldn't hear him, which made him quite happy as well.

Fingers of her free hand began flipping through the pages of the song list book, while her other hand lowered to link fingers with Aro's again, this time without thought, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. They might not have been anything but friends, but that didn't seem to be stopping her from taking liberties, if she even thought of them as that (which she didn't at all).

With the words from their last song still ringing in her head, it was hard for Lydia to think of a song without scanning the pages and hoping something would catch her eye. Eventually, however, she remembered what she had first said they should sing together, and she flipped through the book more rapidly until she came to the one she wanted, glad to see that they had it.

"This one." She stabbed an index finger down onto the page, pointing out the song entitled "You're the One That I Want" from the hit musical "Grease".

"Would that be okay?" She asked, squeezing his hand and turning eyes up towards him. "If it's not I can pick something else." It was, after all, probably far out of their musical range, though that sort of thing didn't really matter to her at all.

Arorangi was cheerful and having a good time, while in his head the kitsune was bouncing around excitedly, Ari a bundle of joy as his master's emotions rose to pleasant levels. But Arorangi was much more focused on the fact that he was having that good time with Lydia, and the fact that their hands were interlinked, fingers wound together, was making his heart warm with haappiness.

"Oh!" he said excitedly as she pointed out the next song. "That is perfect, I have not sung this one before, but I am very much looking forward to it!"

He squared his shoulders, gave Lydia's hand a return squeeze, and picked up the mic, his eyes alight with mischief. This was not just a song for the two of the them, apparently; as the lyrics began rolling across the screen and Arorangi began singing, the rest of the restaurant began to sing along as well, clapping enthusiastically, some giving little cheers. The atmosphere of the place rose, and Arorangi's heart gave a little jolt of sheer enjoyment, because this was exactly the sort of thing that he loved. He was with someone he liked very much, everyone was in a good mood, and there was no suffering or sadness to be found.

Arorangi turned his head towards Lydia, a broad smile on his face as he sang. His hand slid from her hand to rest on her waist, tugging her toward him in a little silly dance.
