xxAs Kalendol listened, her head cocked slightly and her auburn hair fell out, a look of intrigue and dissatisfaction on her face. She'd expected a bit more from the more experienced, and what she'd got wasn't quite what she'd anticipated. "So then," She began, referring to the meeker rider, Malta, with the pretty green. "You say it's different for all, but it feels nice. I'm sorry, could you elaborate a little on that? Is it a warm sensation? A loving sensation? What do you feel deep down, not just 'it's nice.'" She asked, and now, genuine concern filled her dissatisfied features. Kalendol was hard headed, and when something displeased her, she wasn't necessarily just going to let it sit.

xxTurning to Z'radi and her green, she blinked her eyes and then frowned a little. "Ah, so the bond is different for each person as well. Like a cot mate? Sounds to me it's more like sibling affection, or something of that nature. After all, my elder brothers and I shared things and didn't share things, whereas at times we were at odds with one another." She paused slowly, pressing her index finger to her lips once more. Kalendol was, intrigued. "So, it's like a sibling bond at the same time? Though, I would assume it was more in depth, I might be saddened if my brothers died, but I don't think suicide would be a prompt answer for my feelings." The red head looked curiously at Z'radi, cocking her head.

xxAt the moment, Kalendol was feeling much, and she blinked her hazel green eyes in an effort to clear her head slightly. Frowning, she shuffled her feet a little, her eyes never leaving the riders and their dragons. She maintained her head held high and then slightly cocked it, "Your bonds even stretch into flights, correct? So I've heard anyways. As I said, I'm from a smaller hold, we didn't necessarily have dragons there, so forgive me if my question is indecent. I just want to know everything before experiencing it for myself." Not that I'd be surprised by it. She thought calmly, blinking her eyes. Casually, she rocked back on her heels and watched curiously, "I understand you cannot tell us everything, that would be rather like ruining the surprise."

I wonder if someone already asked about going 'between'? Is it cold there? Is it like nothing ever felt before? Oh, the thoughts I could go on are endless. She thought with a small grin before blinking her eyes. "If no one minds me asking," She said confidently, watching all of the riders carefully, "What is it like to go between? I don't know much about it, and I must admit my curiosity has caught me in it's grasp." Here, Kalendol chuckled as put her hand on the back of her head with a giggle. Blinking open her eyes, she cocked her head to the riders, Do each riders have different experiences that could benefit the knowledge of many? Naturally, a rider who has had their dragon for more time would have more knowledge than someone who had gotten their dragon at the last hatching. She thought as she watched them, trying to discern which riders had had most time with their dragons.

xxShe was calculating and certain, her hazel eyes bouncing from rider to dragon, and back again in a cycle. Perhaps the council would definitely be the one who had the most experience. But, perhaps she should not directly speak to the older woman, unless she was spoken to first, call it respect if you will. The teen placed her finger to her lips once more, pursing them as she thought deeply. She wanted to now everything there was to know. "The thread, dragon riders are chosen to fight the thread. I understand that dragons eat firestones to breath fire to destroy the thread, but how does the thread attack? What does it look like, how does it move?" She questioned, deeply enthralled with the riders answers. To better defeat an enemy, you must know your enemy, you must understand your enemy. How am I to fight thread if I know nothing about them? Kalendol had branched from the topic of hatchings, dragons, and the like, and into something that she wasn't sure she'd have an answer for.

xxBut, no one had ever told her about thread before, ad here these folks were, wanting the group to ask questions, but their questions were of no interest to Kalendol. And inwardly she had a feeling that the dragons were not all that intrigued by these questions either. Perhaps they're as bored with this as I am, but, it could just be the fact that no one is directing questions at the dragons themselves, they're more directed at the riders than anything else. She'd not been alarmed by the dragon's voice in her head when she'd first come into the meeting, so she wondered if others were? Was there a taboo against talking to a dragon that had a rider? Or, was it just that the dragons were more prideful and chose not to listen?

xxCuriosity brimmed in her eyes now and she turned towards the nearest rider and dragon pair, how quaint, it was the first dragon who'd spoken to her when she'd entered, and the greenrider Malta. "Greenrider, is there a taboo against people speaking to the dragons who have riders? I mean, more clearly, is it frowned upon for a non-rider to have a conversation with a rider's dragon." Came a more clear response. The riders would have to forgive her for any mistakes in decorum right now; she had just come to the weyrhold from a hold that held no dragons, and was about the size of maybe one corner of Benden. She was curious of dragons, but wanted to be respectful as well. Although Kalendol had heard and learned some things from her brothers, she knew them to be the type who preferred to let others do the work for them when it comes to studying. She could bet ten marks her brothers just sat in the back of these question and answer meetings and just gaffed it off like it was nothing. Not Kalendol. She would learn.

Vee showed her teeth to the green dragon again, her discomfort at the alien voice in her head manifesting as anger. "Fine, your boss' boss," she snapped, "that's still your boss in the end and you still answer to her!" ...And she'd just said boss again, which the councilor hadn't liked. Vee glanced over at the other green rider and ducked her head. "Sorry Councilor." She didn't like to apologise but she didn't want to piss off the powerful woman.

A'nos smiled slightly and gave a half shrug. "I've been out and about a lot; Acriculeth and I have been assigned a lot of long patrols. I'll be glad when we have more riders around to take some of the strain off us." Two Weyr's worth of territory was a lot to handle but new recruits drifted in all the time albeit only one or two at a time and with this new clutch there would be more again, though it would be a turn before they were ready to take on many duties. "What about yourself?" he added with a curious tilt of his head to Canoake.

Acriculeth made a vague noise of agreement and settled himself down next to Tatath, observing the candidates and listening to the other dragons.

________________

Savarah pursed her lips when the spear-wielding girl came out with 'boss' again but accepted the apology with a curt nod and a direct look which said as plain as words 'don't let it happen again'.

With that dealt with she turned to Kalendol "It's a feeling of completion," she replied, "that's one of the few things nearly every rider can agree upon. It's like finding a part of yourself that you didn't know was missing, a feeling of being loved completely for all that you are and finding another mind which you love completely in return. While it's true that every bond is different each pair becomes so deeply linked that... well to lose your dragon is to lose half of yourself, half of your mind, half of your heart. There are those who can survive it but the hole inside them never heals.

"As for flights, it is true that you share your dragon's feelings," she continued, the solemn tone leaving her voice, replaced by a firm practical one. "It is not true however that you have to participate in any kind of physical relations just because your dragon is, let alone that it must be with the rider of the dragon your dragon chooses as a mate or is chosen by. Many riders choose to have what we call a stand-in; somebody they trust be they a friend, romantic partner or otherwise. Others choose to simply shut themselves away alone until the flight passes, and of course there are those who will prefer to simply go along with the flight. None of these options are wrong, the only thing that is wrong is trying to persuade somebody else to do something they are not comfortable with." The other questions Savarah didn't respond to, choosing to leave them to the riders they had actually been directed at.

Symphonth meanwhile regarded Poecileth with cool indifference. she replied.

Vos noticed a pair of boys. One certainly looked unfriendly. She wondered what his problem was. The other was much more open and willing to talk until his, brother apparently, hushed him. In the wind? What does that mean? Vos flashed a grin at the pair of boys, Jamarin and Jikkiri. "Looks like your here on the ground with the rest of us to me. But if you're just doing work here, then you're in the wrong place. This here is for candidates, not workmen or drudges." She was curious about where they'd come from.

The teen put a comforting hand upon Erse's shoulder as he voiced a question. She'd back him any time. Her attention was taken by a green and her chatty rider who answered one of the boys. A second more timid rider also spoke up. A healer eh? Well that was a thought, though Vos didn't think she'd be suited for that. Her brows wrinkled at the woman's answer for Touchings. They were nice? Well that didn't really answer anything! Vos breathed out forcefully. She straightened up as an unexpected voice flowed through her mind. The dragon; it had to be the dragon speaking! She gleefully rubbed her hands together. Now there was an interesting source to ask. Go straight to the beast's mouth so to speak.

Canoake's also answered Erse's question. Did that mean a dragon picked its rider from the shell and not after it hatched? If so, can you influence the unhatched dragon? She'd totally give it a try this touching. Vos snickered as Vee pointed out the riders contradicting themselves. That probably wouldn't go over well. Everyone had different opinions, even among the riders. Good to know.

Finally though, Ves arrived. She crooked her arm so the trio of siblings were linked. "S'about time," she murmured to Ves. The twin was mildly surprised her sister had taken so long to arrive. "Couldn't tear yourself away eh? Nuthin' much. Introductions, which not everyone did," she glanced at the two boys again. "And some questions of course. Even Esre got brave enough to voice a question." She flashed a grin at her younger brother. A new girl arrived and started asking questions that made her brows rise. Those... were good questions. Vos sighed that she hadn't thought of them. Being a brat had its disadvantages.

She gave an affirmative grunt as Esre whispered to them. "Aye, but its been awhile. There haven't been many clutches here. So anyone got any good questions?" Vos whispered still to Ves and Esre. If the three of them put their heads together, maybe they could come up with a good, a really good, question. She rolled her eyes as the new candidate pressed the issue. "Jumping the dragon isn't she," Vos muttered with a head nod toward Kalendol. Really asking about a Flight before one even has the chance to impress. Still the riders wanted questions. A thought occurred to her and she directed her question to Anali and Arlii as the pair who might best answer her.

"I've heard crimsons can occasionally lay clutches. If any crimsons are hatched this clutch, would the rider be encouraged to be a breeding crimson?" It made sense in way to her. The weyrholds desperately needed more dragons. There wasn't a guarantee there'd be a gold egg this clutch either, not with a brown sire. The next best option, she could figure, was having breeding crimsons. Or get more golds, Vos mused. Where did golds come from? Hatched from a gold, or another weyr. Just like Banshidheth had.

Her jaw dropped as Kalendol asked about thread. Really? From what backwater hold had she crawled out of? Everyone knew about Thread! Or so she'd thought until now. If anyone could set her right, it'd be the riders now. Vos hoped they'd be sure to send a harper there fast to teach them properly.

As there seemed to be a brief gap in answers A'nos flashed a smile to Canoake and stepped away from her, towards the candidates. "Perhaps I can contribute something rather than just standing around here," he volunteered with an easy charming smile, his trained voice projecting across the crowd carrying confidence and a little good humoured self deprecation.

"Before I begin I suppose I should introduce myself; my name is A'nos and my bondmate is Acriculeth." He made a smooth gesture to the sleek bronze as he spoke before composing his hands neatly behind his back again.

"While I was a rider for Benden Weyr my duties were mainly confined to fighting the Thread," he confirmed to Jamarin with a nod. "Anything else we chose to do, well, it was a choice and plenty chose not to. Weyr riders are rather cosseted, especially riders of metallic dragons," he flashed another self-deprecating smile, "they are... well if you will excuse a rather crude turn of phrase they are treated as though they fart the finest perfumes and piss wine.

"As for between," he nodded now to Kalendol, "it is.... Nothingness, essentially. It's a pitch black void, darker than any mine shaft and colder than any winter. There is no air and almost no sensation besides the cold, you can barely feel your dragon beneath you. All in all not a pleasant place but fortunately you only remain in there for a few heartbeats. As for the Thread, it falls from the sky in long silver strands, often tangled together. We riders take to the skies and burn it down, for if it touches anything living it eats right through it. An entire herdbeast can be devoured in less than a minute, a whole Hold's crop destroyed. It doesn't move independently very much as it falls, though it is affected by the wind which makes fighting it difficult when winds are high. It is a bit of a common misconception that dragons eat firestone however; they chew it and swallow it but they have a separate 'stomach' if you will for 'stone and after a Fall they have to regurgitate the remains of the firestone. Lastly your question about speaking to dragons...." A'nos glanced over at Malta for a moment before looking back to Kalendol. "It is not taboo to speak to dragons who have a rider - as all do, save for new hatchlings - but it is uncommon for a dragon to reply directly. Most dragons don't like to speak to humans other than their rider and perhaps one or two humans their rider is especially close to. It is," he paused for a moment, searching for the right word before continuing with; "It is very intimate for a dragon to choose to speak to a human and quite an intimate experience to be spoken to. They are inside your very mind after all."

"I'll take your question Vosin," Savarah continued smoothly when the bronze rider stopped speaking. "Crimson dragons can and indeed do clutch if they never chew firestone but unlike golds they don't clutch every time they rise, a crimson can go many turns without laying a clutch and crimson clutches are smaller than gold clutches. They also tend to contain more of the atypical colours; black, crimson, and silver. It's never been known for a crimson to clutch a white, or a bronze or gold...." At this point the Councilor seemed to realize that she had rambled off subject slightly; she shook her head slightly. "As for the rest of your actual question there has been no official discussion about that by the Council... but in my personal opinion it would be the most responsible choice a crimson rider could make, for the present at least. One of the pillars of our Wherholds however is freedom of choice so I would personally oppose any notion of forcing the choice upon a pair."

xxShe contemplated this a moment, blinking her hazel eyes at A'nos for just a moment before inclining her head slowly. "I see," She whispered lightly, thinking the answers she'd been given over within her head. There was much to be gained from these experiences she supposed. Frowning she tilted her head, "I'm sorry if this question is more personal, dragons can live for a very many turns correct? Is it normal for a rider to pass before his, or her, dragon does?" Sadness swept within her eyes for a brief moment as her head turned to scan all of the riders and dragons. To be so tightly bound to another, just to have them stripped away from you; it must be a horrible fate.

xx"Excuse my rudeness if the question is not quite what you'd all had in mind." Kalendol just liked to be prepared for anything, and everything. Should she get a dragon, she wanted to be aware of the potential risks that could come with said dragon. Her heart gave a tight squeeze and she lifted her chin through it. Honestly, she was burnt out of questions, and as such she sat back on her heels, her hazel eyes watching. She heard Vosrin's question, but tuned out of the conversation that'd ensued, not out of rudeness, but simply because she knew about crimsons. After all, with five elder brothers wanting to be dragon riders; one just so happened to be enthralled with a pretty little crimsonrider. He could go on and on about that dragon, and her rider. It was horrifying.

Vesresh

”Will you, uh...” he blushed. She'd called him brave. His big sister had called him brave. He beamed behind the heat of his face. ”Tell me about them?”

This would be his first Touching, and he wanted to know all about it from them.

Jamarin

Jamarin grinned at A'nos' answer: He liked this guy. And his choice of language. “Sounds like they didn't pull their weight like they ought.” he remarked, “Here, though, they do. That's good.” he approved, workaholic that he was. He gave Jikkiri a shove in the shoulder.

“Hear that, Jikki? If you got yourself a dragon, you'd have to work.” he whispered to his brother.

Jikkiri

Jikkiri didn't entirely like the sound of that – or of the piss and wine and farts. This candidate and dragon business was sounding like a lot more work than what Jikkiri had been hoping for, but if Jamarin was in, it was more work to get out than anything. Having nothing nice to say, and thus at a loss for words at all, Jikkiri remained quiet...

Malta and Poecileth

”Er, w-well.” being asked directly, while it did help keep the girl in focus, made Malta feel slightly on-the-spot. ”Well, you can speak to Poecileth, if you want. I don't mind, and I don't think anybody else really minds about people speaking to their dragons... I mean... They are people...”

The indifference in Symphonth's voice bothered Poecileth. It bothered her a lot. Poecileth said, mainly to Kalendol,

Her eyes flashed a sudden anxious orange as she listened to A'nos give his excellent description of thread and between. Oooo, shaff...

Poecileth never used such language, and her rider was startled.

said Poecileth privately. She itched to speak to the children and answer their questions, but...

Poecileth murmured, uneasy. She felt chastised, and she hated to think of herself as indecent or rude, and she hated being rude, but she also hated the feeling of being gagged. Poecileth backed away slightly, revealing her rider.

Malta did not like feeling so exposed, but one of them had to be bold. It was usually Poecileth, and hopefully Poecileth would figure this out. Malta, for her part, liked it when her dragon spoke to others and was uncomfortable with relaying, so she did not find it rude at all – after all, nobody could share what she and Poecileth had – neither dragon nor human.

Either way, she was going to try to be bold. Like Poe. ”Oh, no. You're not rude at all.” reassured Malta, to both her dragon and to Kalendol, ”This is a question and answer session... You're supposed to ask questions...” She hoped she wouldn't have to keep this up without Poecileth's support for long – and she doubted she'd have to. ”And... well... not exactly... but, yes. Dragons live for many turns, and I have never known one to die of old age themselves, but the dragon...” she hesitated, ”The dragon always follows their rider into death, almost immediately...” Not a thought she wanted to think about (though the idea that Poecileth would be with her when she died was comforting in a way). ”That is sometimes how you know – first – that they've died.” or, with a patient, that she had failed. This was not a subject she wanted to linger on, though she expected to hear more questions along that track from this girl...

suggested Poecileth, mentally nuzzling her rider.

”Whers also live a long time, and often outlast their first handler...” said Malta. Yes, dragonkin and dragonhealing was much preferable. Still death, though... her nemesis, she supposed.

Z'radi and Rotatonth

”The bond is a little all-of-the above...” said Z'radi, sidestepping Kalendol's question a little, ”Like I said, cotmate. It's a relationship. It's a deep relationship where Rota knows my every thought, but it is one.” Z'radi shrugged.

A lot of people were getting really into this questioning. Z'radi almost wanted to make it a game: who answered the most questions from the youngsters?

Maybe I should start a betting pool, see who impresses... she chuckled to herself, I'm betting on the girl.

complained the dark-skinned Rotatonth.

Rotatonth turned to Symphonth. she hesitated, clicking her teeth in annoyance,

xxShe gave a very thoughtful look, her questions being based off of information her brothers had failed to acquire. As she listened, Kalendol's eyes became more distant, but she was completely and emphatically absorbed in what the rider's were saying. The red head was rather curious of other information, but she opted not to speak of it at this moment. Her eyes wandering over the rider's, first to Malta and then to Z'radi curiosity brimming in her hazel optics as she cocked her head. Blinking she murmured, mostly to herself, "So, dragons may choose to speak to others, though it's common courtesy not to speak to a bonded rider, I see." She hummed a little as she mused, rocking on the balls of her feet carefully. Blinking her eyes she grinned. Kalendol was amused with this question game.

xxTurning her attention now to the green rider, Z'radi she cocked her head, "That makes some sense I suppose. My brother claimed something similar, though one can hardly understand what he says. Very deep baritone that one. So, a cotmate who shares everything about you, and knows all your thoughts. Intriguing notion." The girl slowly looked away, deep within her thoughts once more, "Do they know things that've happened before they were impressed to you?" She directed her question to Z'radi with a c**k of her head in the opposite direction, blinking her eyes slowly. It would be intriguing to have someone in your head who knew of you, of things that'd happened in the past. Perhaps she'd have to give an example? "Say, when you where three you accidentally grabbed a hot tool that was sitting near the hearth, and burned your hand; would your impressed dragon know about it, without you having to share?" Kalendol asked whispered softly, but her voice was loud enough to be heard by the rider's, as her position brought her near them.

xxThe work will be the most difficult part, I'd be sore for several seven days after caring for a dragonet for only a day. Various things seem interesting though. The fact that they know how you're feeling, what you're thinking. It's something so, foreign. Having someone so close to you that your very thoughts become theirs too. How bizarre it must feel at first. How startling. Kalendol eyed the riders now with a new intrigue in her colorful oculars. They seem at ease with their bonds, and seem to stick close to their dragons. Though, it seems like the dragons also have a mind of their own, growing bored it would seem. She blinked her eyes once again and scanned the riders, her eyes resting curiously on the gold dragon. Her scales were so... beautiful, and Kalendol smiled briefly, before allowing her eyes to wander to the others.

xxEach varied in size, and it was amazing to be surrounded by so many of these beautiful creatures. Kalendol looked around now at the riders, noticing expressions, the movement of lips, their being. How curious. I wonder if they can speak with their dragons and people at the same time. "Communication with your dragon, are they born with the ability to speak to you? Through words I mean. Or is the impression a way for them to speak to you?" She asked curiously, cocking her head carefully to the side as she looked to the riders in general. Not caring really whom answered her question.

Z'radi and Rotatonth

”Er...” Z'radi looked at the girl quizzically. ”What do you...” she hesitated to let Kalendol come closer, watching her curiously.

Clearly, thought the greenrider, She's got something in mind...

Z'radi didn't have a problem with that, of course: you had to have something in mind in order to ask about it – that was what this Q&A was for, wasn't it? To get these kids to ask all the questions that were lurking in their heads all at once... to get it out of their systems as it were. The question was, what was the kid asking?

Is she asking if you can keep secrets from your dragon? What would she have in her past that she wouldn't want a dragon to know?

Not that Z'radi was a particularly creative person, but she could come up with a few things herself... not about herself, of course, but... well, what if you were holdless or something, and you wanted your dragon to think the best of you? Or if you got bound to a real stick in the mud dragon and didn't want her to know that there was a time when you didn't give a tunnelsnake's a** about work?

And that was the point, wasn't it? Eventually, a dragon would find out it's rider's secrets – how could they not? Z'radi and Rotatonth kept their minds to themselves, but Rotatonth knew of Z'radi's fights and foibles and flaws, and didn't care.

Still, Z'radi wanted to hear what was so scandalous that the girl might want a dragon not to know. She was disappointed. ”Well... If you never brought it up...” she said, whispering back, ”Never thought about it at all, never remembered it, never even thought about it, you know, vaguely along with something, then they'd never know.”

”And they probably wouldn't care about where you got your burn scar, either.”

She might... thought Rotatonth, giving Poecileth a yellow-eyed look before returning to her longing stares at anywhere-but-here. This is so pointless

But hey, there had been several answers along the lines of 'every-dragon-is-different' and so maybe there were dragons that cared, or dragons that sifted through memories like library books. Who knew? In her experience, dragons were focused on the Here and Now. Or, alternatively...

”Mostly, dragons aren't too concerned with the past. Just whats happening now, and whats happening next. That's just my experience though.” she said, shrugging, ”Take it for what it's worth.”

Malta and Poecileth

Poecileth wanted to speak. She really did. But A'no's words of before were still bothering her and – she had noticed to her great chagrin – the questions were not directed at her at all. This was quickly becoming frustrating to deal with.

she grumbled mentally,

It was unusual for Poecileth to be so moody. Not even when she was proddy, though she was nowhere close to her next heat cycle. Malta kept careful track – neither of them liked to rise.

A'nos must have really struck a chord... Malta thought, concerned.

a mental, exasperated sigh,

Which was true enough – something that Malta envied about her partner was her ability to bounce back from setbacks. More so, though, did Malta envy Poecileth's tough skin – her ability to not let things affect her at all.

Which means that A'nos really hit a chord...

replied Poecileth, distracted.

Well, that just meant that Malta would have to answer the questions herself. ”That's a hard question, Kalendol...” she hoped she had gotten the girl's name right.

”I'm not sure. They first speak during impression, from what I know...” Malta looked to the other riders for support, ”I think they talk to each other on the sands... or – or something... But their first true words are usually to their rider...”

Poecileth retrieved Malta's memory of impressing, and sent a feeling of a warm smile through their bond,

Malta could feel her dragon bolstering from the pure joy of the memory.

”But they speak right after they are born... and I don't think whers do...? It takes them about a week...” she looked again to the other riders, ”Unless I'm wrong?”

xxKalendol cocked her head, her eyes on Z'radi with curiosity. "My apologies, Green Rider, I have nothing to hide from anyone. I was merely curious." She answered, her eyes instantly going blank to prevent further curiosities as to what was so driven to the point of her asking softly. "Is of no matter truly, just a simple curiosity I thought I'd get clarified. Yes, my original curiosity was whether you could keep secrets. It seems that it would be difficult to do so if someone shared your thoughts. Might I ask, Green Rider, what your own personal feelings were at your impressing of your beautiful dragon?" She asked with gentle concern. If it is indeed different for all, perhaps her experience was just as quaint as the other green rider's, or perhaps she was scared, no, she doesn't seem the type. How would I feel? She wondered bleakly, but had no answer for herself.

xxTurning her attention to Malta with a blink of her eyes, and pursed her lips in thought. "Can dragon's read thoughts of other people, or is it just the thoughts of their riders whom they're able to hear?" Kalendol asked her eyes briefly flashing to Poecileth, who seemed to have completely changed her personality from before. I wonder... was it me? Kalendol didn't like to upset people, and especially not when they'd been helpful to her. Blinking her eyes she frowned a little and cocked her head slightly to the side, her hat falling to cover her right eye, to which she quickly readjusted. "I'd like to beseech the pardon of your lovely dragon, if my words upset her in some way?" All greens in her eyes were lovely or beautiful, though golds were ravishing in her opinion. She had a different name to express beauty for each of the colors.

xxNow, Kalendol wasn't trying to sucker the dragons, but she'd heard somewhere that dragons could be quite vain and often thought of themselves as extravagant beings who were the next top model. sorry for a recent reference, my mind is elsewhere The young teen looked at the dragons present now, and then her eyes drifted back to Poecileth, cocking her head with a troubled expression, "Excuse me, Green Dragon," She asked softly, "What was your first impression of your rider, if I may ask so blatantly?" Her eyes remained steadily fixed on Poecileth a small smile on her face. Perhaps I've been giving too much thought to what riders were feeling, but what were their dragons feeling? If I can understand how dragons feel, it could perhaps help me understand what they search for when impressing.

She found that her question was taken by an albeit unexpected, and pleasant, source. Respectfully she turned and nodded to Savarah. Vos absorbed the words and tried to figure out if Savarah was for or against a breeding crimson. The fact they clutched so sporadically made the idea problematic to her. It only gave a slim chance at more dragons when the wherholds needed reliable clutches. Beggers couldn't be choosers though. If they needed dragons then they needed them any way they could right?

A white would be neat to see, but Vos doubted that any wherholder would miss golds or bronzes except as reliable egg layers and the biggest dragons. She gave another nod as the woman finished speaking. "Thanks for taking my question. Has the Council talked about bringing in another gold from another Weyr? That would be the most reliable way for more clutches if crimsons tend to be sporadic." Assuming the wherhold was on good terms with at least one of the other weyrs, and they had excess golds; provided the wherhold didn't want to wait for Banshidheth and any fertile daughters to up the numbers.

Questions had been a bit slow in coming at first, but once they'd gotten started, things picked up quickly. Some candidates were more outgoing than others, and took the opportunity to ask a lot of varied questions. After answering a few questions in the beginning, Anali was content to let others answer, for the most part. They did a fine job of it, and there was no sense in her trying to answer every question when others were more than capable. It would not have come across well.

But she was attentive nonetheless, nodding here and there in agreement, until another question from Vosin caught her attention. "I cannot say if it is something the Council has spoken of, but as a goldrider once reasonably well-acquainted with other goldriders, I can tell you that the likelihood of another pair coming in from outside is...practically nonexistent. I doubt any Weyr would willingly send us a gold, and I do not believe that any others will defect. They would sacrifice significant rank and privilege to do so, which is something none that I know of would be wont to do."

There was also the fact that the Revolution was responsible for the deaths of two Queens and their riders, but Anali judged that too grim and accusatory an inclusion.

It seemed the wherhold was in a pickle. Vos played with her braid as she listened to Anali. That pretty much shot her idea down unfortunately. She had to believe a goldrider would have a fairly good idea what other goldriders would or would not do. The teen pursed her lips as she thought about the consequences.

"The wherhold pretty well screwed itself over during the revolution hu?" Vos started ticking the facts that she knew off on her fingers. "The other Weyrs won't send any gold or wingrider dragons. We have a large area to protect from Thread, and a limited number of dragons. It's going to take Turns before Banshidheth's clutch is up to fighting. That leaves us in a rather tight spot doesn't it?"

The teen looked around at the riders. There was a whole point behind this. Thread. It was a rider's job to sear it from the sky. "What about Thread? What if we don't have enough riders to stop it and it burrows? What will the other weyrs do then?"
