She waited. It was clear she had startled him, but she waited to see if his reaction was good or bad.
Apparently it was good.
Junko's eyes followed Seiji's, peering up at him through her bangs while he toyed with her hair and continued the song. She let him guide her into a sway. "There's such a fooled heart, beating so fast, in search of new dreams.. One hand finally released her sleeve to reach up and cup his cool cheek with a warm hand.

This brought back memories of so many evenings, most of them good, one not exactly bad, but not welcome in this moment. The latter was pushed away again, and the boil let all the rest cycle through his mind as they danced in Junko's little kitchen.
Finally she uncurled her hands, and the boil smiled as dainty fingers slid over his cheek in lines of warmth. He tilted his head, nuzzling into that soft touch, before laying a kiss on her palm, lips brushing her skin as he picked up the verse in a soft voice. "A love that will last within your heart.
Glowing red flicked down to the monster ghoul, watching her face, drinking her in again like he hadn't allowed himself in over a year.

Her breath caught in her throat, making her voice crack as she continued, "I'll pla-ace the moon, within your heart.." Her gaze lowered from Seiji's, her face hot and her heart racing. She swallowed hard, eyes closing as she stepped forward to hide her face against him.

When her head lowered to rest on his chest he wrapped his arms around her again, a hand moving to stroke her hair, wary of the Mistress. "As the pain sweeps through makes no sense for you. Every thrill is gone, wasn't to much fun for at all." Cool fingers slid under her hair at the back of her neck, cradling her head. "But I'll be there for you-ou-ou. As the world falls down." Another kiss was pressed to her brow, through the fringe of her bangs.

Her other hand finally came up to clutch the front of his shirt, her shoulders trembling as Seiji continued to sing a part of the song that hit so close to home. She whimpered, tipping her head into the kiss to her brow.

That sad, broken little sound made his heart hurt. Frowning, the ghost moved to sweep her up into his arms before just sinking down to take a seat on the floor with her cradled in his lap, legs draped over his thigh. The hand that had been at the back of her neck slid up into her hair, tracing cool lines along her scalp while avoiding getting too close to Her. His other hand came up as well, brushing the back of his knuckles along her cheek.
"I'll paint you mornings of gold." The last verse had picked up a new layer that cut to the heart, but there was more, and he murmured the words against soft hair. "I'll spin you valentine evenings. Though we're strangers til now, we're choosing the path between the stars. I'll leave my love between the stars." This close she could have felt the rumble of his voice through his chest.
The lyric was ended with a kiss, and after he'd continue with a soft hum. Holding her to him, fingers exploring on comforting, soft strokes. After a moment, as even the humming died down, he'd let his head fall back against the cabinets he'd sat against, eyes falling closed. She was so warm, so small. He didn't want to let her go.

He sat with her on his lap and she curled up against him, her knees to her chest and her face still hidden against his throat. But he kissed her again and her arms came up to curl around his neck, clinging to him and returning the kiss she was being given. When he ended it she looked up at him with open eyes and a distraught look on her face. "You still love me?" She asked quietly, her voice barely a whisper.

When she moved her head his came down automatically to meet her gaze. The question made him frown, and touched the edge of her chin with the curl of a tick knuckle. "I never stopped loving you." It seemed such ironic question to him, like it should have been obvious, but after everything over the past year he couldn't blame her for believing he'd lost his love for her. He had been trying to, after all.
The frown faded, replaced by a gentle smile. "Don't you remember?" His thumb stroked along her jaw. "I promised you I'd never get tired of you."

Tears filled her eyes almost instantly. He remembered that silly little half-conscious conversation. The tears rolled down her cheeks and her entire body shook with sobs, her arms snaking around him to cling to Seiji and sob against his chest. Even her hair slithered up to cling to him. She didn't realize just how happy she would be to hear that news, but it elated her to hear it. He still loved her, she hadn't completely messed up. Maybe they could fix things. Repair them.
She mumbled against his chest, her words incoherent through her crying.

"J..." He watched, cracks spreading over his cold black heart, as tears filled the ghoul's eyes and started pouring down her cheeks. "Don't cry." Automatically he shifted to wrap his arms more securely around her as she clung to him, sobbing against his chest, and did his best to be comforting, pressing his cheek to the top of her head, whispering soft, soothing noises between promises that everything would be okay.
When she mumble, words completely muffled, he frowned, head tilting as he looked down at her before his hands moved to her shoulders so he could lift her away from his chest so he might be able to actually hear her. "What was that?"

"W-watash-shi.." She choked. "" Junko hiccuped, breathing in and trying desperately to calm down. She was just so happy. Junko refused to lift her head and look at him, not wanting him to see her face.

How many times could this ghoul break his heart? The tears, the choked pleading for forgiveness, if Seiji had already made the choice to try to get her back, that would have sealed it for him. She wasn't looking at him, and it made him sigh, but he leaned in to lay a chaste kiss on her cheek, catching a tear before it it could roll down to drip off her chin. "I forgive you." He had sometime ago, he just hadn't know what to do about it. She'd been gone, but even if the ghoul had still been around, Seiji wouldn't have had any idea how to act around her. Being nothing more than friends had never been an option.
Unless she looked up on her own he'd let go of her right shoulder so he could tuck fingers below her chin, lifting her head up so he could catch her gaze. "" They'd been through too much, he couldn't throw that all away, and he didn't want to. Junko was the ghoul he'd wanted to marry. She meant so much to him it was ridiculous.
With a soft grunt the boil got to his feet again, the ghoul still cradled in his arms. The floor wasn't very comfortable, no matter how soft and warm Junko was in his lap. Instead he headed for the couch, sinking down into the corner so he could stretch his legs out, her petite frame brought back to cuddle against his chest in whatever way was most comfortable to her. "" He'd stay with her as long as she wanted him to.

I forgive you, he said. It felt like her heart was going to burst from her chest. He forgave her. He still loved her. He still wanted her. She wanted to pretend the last year hadn't happened. If she hadn't already been crying his words would have brought tears to her eyes. As it was she was working desperately at calming down and regaining her composure. He still wanted her. They could fix this. It wasn't too late.
He stood with her in his arms and she closed her eyes. She still sniffed and hiccuped but at least she was almost done crying it seemed. When he laid on the couch she stretched out to get comfortable in his hold. It had been so long since they had done this...

It seemed as though Junko was beyond words at this point, but that was alright. It could stay quiet for now, a refreshingly I awkward silence broken only by her sniffles and fading hiccups, and his soft humming. Once she had settled he'd lay a kiss on the top of her head before resting his cheek there. His hands slid up her sides, a soft brush of fingertips that trailed along her back, over her shoulders and down her arms. A reasuring, comforting circuit he'd maintain as long as she lay against him.

Her head rest on Seiji's chest, one arm under him to come around and hold his shoulder and the other one draped across his stomach, and one leg across his hips, her other leg tangled itself with his own. She wasn't letting him go anytime soon, in fact she was making herself as comfortable as possible so such a thing wouldn't even be an option.
She sniffed, nuzzling her face into his chest and hiding under her hair. Junko felt foolish. That all could have been handled so much better. Why did she keep crying in front of him? That was a thing she needed to stop doing so much. She was not some weepy scareling! Glowing green eyes peered up at him through the curtain of hair over her face, parting it slightly without using her hands so she could gaze up at him without obstruction. And then she lowered her head again, watching her own hand as it sought out one of Seiji's to grasp and lock her fingers together with, bringing it under the curtain of hair to rest against her lips.
Junko was quiet for a few minutes more, a comfortable silence she quite enjoy until finally..
"...The tea is probably cold by now."
