Kasoro was joined by another Firekin, a lioness this time, and he watched as she landed a pretty good blow to the Nergui male. Now that they had more firepower he felt like he didn't have to guard the fallen Azar as much.

He darted forward again, raking his claws along the already injured shoulder, pulling the bloody wound open further. They could wear him down, make him regret ever coming this way.

Kai saw the paw and moved to dodge to the side in an attempt to avoid the incoming strike. For the most part, luck and skill were on his side as the full brunt of the attack just whizzed by him but a sharp pain laced through his side as claws dug in and ripped at him. Blood welled up from the wound and quickly began to run down his pelt, as the young male turned himself to face off with Muunokhoi once again only to see others attacking him. Though not life threatening in any means the wound would certainly cause Kai some pain and discomfort once the adrenaline began to wear away.

With another challenging roar Kai also joined to fray. Ignoring the seeping wound on his side he lunged forward with his own claws looking to strike hard at the older male's side.

Kasoro knew there was strength in numbers and his confidence grew. Feeding off the energy of the Firekin around him, he waited for an opening and attacked the Nergui from behind this time. With two ferocious Firekin attacking from the front and one massive godspawn attacking from behind, he was thoroughly trapped. This time he went in with his teeth, snapping at one hind leg to try to maim him enough that he couldn't put weight on his leg. That way he wouldn't have a good way to lunge and attack or, in turn, retreat. His teeth only got a little nibble of his leg, though, as it was tugged just out of reach as he went to chomp down.

Teeth caught the hyena in the side of his face, removing a chunk of an ear and ruining an eye. The male screamed in pain, thrashing, hoping that the pain was worth any ounce of glory he might receive for such an horrendous scar that the bite had surely left.

But Gren was still there, her eyes back on the predicament of her friend and with a fierce snarl she lunged straight at the lioness, putting her full weight behind it. This time, however, she was choosing to shove with brute force rather than focus on lasting damage.

She needed to free her friend.

She spat a curse in her rugged, guttaral tongue.

Zosie

She felt the rend of flesh - hot beneath her claws - and curled her lips up into a grotesque smile full of bloodied teeth. The expression was short-lived, however, as in the next moment her opponent had lunged, the success of it taking half of her ear clean off.

The pain thrummed through her skull and suddenly she was backing away, shaking her head fiercely, blood flecking the air.

And then her odd-coloured eyes snapped across to where her leader was and her heart sank.

"Muunokhoi Oma," she breathed. She scarely wanted to believe it, but in her heart she knew. Their fight was lost. And lost so quickly...

"We verr not kursas this," she spat and, perhaps surprisingly, she turned and fled.

-----

They would gang up on him, would they? Ha, he would show them. He would show them. He was Muunokhoi, Braak Worrurd. Did they think he would go down so easy? Did they think he had not earned his title and the respect of those that had followed him to battle? He had killed a god today!!

His bellows were a mix of rage and pain as the Firekin began to close in; an attack here, an attack there. His limbs had started to shake, his adornments torn from his body to reveal even more healed scars beneath. They were closing in on wounds the other Firekin had previously made, using them to their benefit. Well, he would show them.

Slashing furiously at the air - somewhat around eye-level - he tried to get his attackers to get back. He'd maneuver them away from his injured side for some respite and buy some time.

Unfortunately as he twisted his position he was just in time to see Kuimsoem break away, retreating across the dusty wastes. He'd kill her for that. Kill her for her cowardice.

He felt Kasoro's teeth at his leg and swung again, throwing all his weight into his swipes, never holding back. He'd see them all dead if he had his way.

Pele had managed to strike her opponent and in turn the female fled, and just in time. Although whether that was due to the damage she had done or not she couldn't say. It was becoming clear that the Firekin were winning, and pride rushed through the soldier. She'd spat out a lump of flesh onto the ground, part of the female ear perhaps.

Pain lurched through her body in spasms, her neck and shoulder searing with pain. It was something she'd never felt before and she kept her eyes on the Nergui leader. Everything started to blacken as blood seeped across her pelt, nearly indistinguishable against the red, except for the way it glistened and matted her fur all at once.

Pele swayed on the spot and took a few steps forward. The wounds were deep, and she had won, but barely.

The lioness could not help it, and she sunk slowly to the ground, blinking at the scene around her.

Mat's resolve surged as the hyena screamed in pain, her teeth finding purchase and ruining one side of the male's face. Good, she thought as she shook her head vigorously. Let this be a reminder of Firekin strength! Even as she thought that, the lioness rammed into her side, knocking her jaws loose and the wind out of her lungs. She was tossed aside and landed heavily on her shoulder, and she spat out whatever she had torn away from the hyena's head. Fur, some meat, skin, nothing she wanted to hang on to.

She got to her feet, eyes blazing, but she could tell the tide had turned in their favor. She snapped her bloody jaws at the lioness, a challenging smirk on her face. "Come on, then," she said, a little growl in her voice. "Or are you going to run?"

Kasoro ducked a wild swing of a bloodied paw and darted back, away from the snarling Nergui. He could see others starting to fall back but they weren't any of the Firekin. Good, they had them on the run. He darted in again to land another hit, trying to keep the attacks coming even though the male was still fighting back. His attack was hardly worth the effort, though: the swinging Nergui hit him harder than he landed an attack, and he retreated, his shoulder burning with the claw marks left behind.

Los' blood was burning as he tore into any Firekin he could find, not staying in one place too long to really fight, just helping other Nergui as he saw fit. He cackled madly as he ripped an ear off a lion here and broke a tail there, his own body covered with new wounds. Each strike of a paw or bite only drove him into a further frenzy, though, his mind clouded with bloodlust.

Roars and yelps of pain from his own side, though, brought his attention back from the warlike state he'd been in. He couldn't believe what he was seeing: everyone was starting to fall back. Los wanted to stay and fight, but there was a sea of red starting to surge in his direction. Bloodied lions, their pelts already fiery, were damp with blood from the battle.

Los didn't fear death. He didn't fear anything. It wasn't a part of him. But he did know orders, and that was to see the artifacts they had recovered from the goddess back to their lands. There would be no glory in dying here, but seeing them safely back. With a snap of his jaws he charged forward, following his Nergui brethren.

Krieg was of a far different mindset from her father. She wasn't afraid to die, but she wasn't ready to just yet. She was young and had a lot to prove still, a lot to do for her pride. She had been fighting as her father had been, darting in and out to assist the lions that were locked in combat with the Firekin. Her jaws were now covered in the blood of the new enemy, the goddess' blood long covered over with the fresh, hot liquid.

She knew they had to fall back. There were far too many of the lions to take on, especially since some of them were injured to being with. She turned to go, running without shame. There would be a time and place to fight the Firekin, but now was not it. They were on a mission and she was going to see it through.

((Sorry I haven't had time to really post here at all. For those actually wanting fights against my ladies - ping me? We can tussle sometime. For now, WE GOTTA SPLIT!))

Both Daudr and Dox were furiously driven back - giving as good as they got when the chance arose, IF it arose, but like it or not the larger firekin force divided them from their savagely battling commander. When the end result became obvious, both snarled and fled - the green one swearing under her breath, the purple one simply stoic, staring ahead and not bothering to look back, unreadable.

Kai had struck well, though most of the nergui seemed to be weakening this one would not back down.

Ka closed the gap over the sands and leapt forward, not sure how his strength would test against this beast of a lion, as he tried to ram him.

As Kai lay waiting for her brother to join her side, she saw a flash of the sun on the dunes.

A ghost, perhaps, she'd heard stories.

Perhaps one day the nergui would truly fall and that firekin sun could rise.

Tesak had decided over the course of this failure for the Nergui that he was not suited to head-on battle. No, he much preferred sneaking up from behind, attacking those who were defenseless. He had stayed back from the initial fray...and none of the fiery lions had chosen to engage him. Lucky him.

So when he saw the tide turning, Tesak had no compunctions about a strategic retreat with his family and pride. There was always tomorrow for revenge.

User Image The white lioness came to herself with a start. Had she...completely missed everything? She'd been musing about the thought of a lion with wings and then about how the wind might carry such a being the way it did the birds. Then she'd been intrigued by the wind itself in this region, how it wavered to and fro, how it rose and died down...

But while she'd been lost in thought, a battle had happened. Eish frowned as she took in the wounds, the fleeing Nergui, the churned earth of the battleground. How on earth could she have been so blind to all the goings-on? That was a worrisome problem, and the white lioness reluctantly admitted to herself that if it might happen again, she'd probably be better off staying well within the pride's boundaries.

More Firekin were joining in the fray. Kasoro grit his teeth against the pain and lifted his head, waiting for another chance to attack. How did the lion have this much energy? Perhaps he was god born himself. Kasoro was glad that he hadn't had a vision. Usually when he encountered blood he was thrown into a trance. This time, though, his 'power' was staying at bay.

An opening came and he saw his chance. He darted forward, a powerful attack to the lion's face with his claws. He hoped the brute force of the hit, coupled with his claws, were sure to do some lasting damage.

Gren took a menacing step forwards, her heavy bulk settling into a comfortable stance; though her shoulders hunched from the weight of the rarec hanging there. Just off to one side, her hyena companion lay on the ground, the injuries to his face horrendous. Gren wasn't sure whether they were fatal or not but left like that, it'd be a slow death - if one came at all.

The lioness flicked her tail angrily, dimly aware of her retreating comrades and the horrible fact that she bore a great burden and responsibility about her neck and paws.

"Brocdkoca!" She barked gruffly, "iv!"

The hyena gave a rough cough, a fore paw paddling in some strange imitation of running.

"Brocdkoca!" Gren called again.

"Raoqa," the hyena grated out between bloodied teeth. "The rarec, Gren."

And in what felt like a millennium - though was only a few seconds - Gren faltered and stared, realising what she must do and hating herself for it. The hyena had accepted his fate and he was brave in a way that would make all who knew him proud. A sacrifice for the good of their people. A hero that future pups and cubs would speak of with awe. A model nergui to which they would fashion themselves.

"We krorr sing uk your srurae!"

And, heart pounding in despair and anger and shame, Gren turned and ran; ears turned back so that she might hear the fight of her Warlord and her protector; to press it to memory so that they might never be forgotten.

With her back turned Gren did not see the young hyena rise to his paws. Did not see him move to block the way. Did not see him tremble as he attempted a defensive stance, a thin line of blood and saliva hanging from his jaw as he snarled. But perhaps she did not need to see. Perhaps she would know what he would do to ensure the artifacts safely out of Firekin paws.

He grimaced and readied himself for the inevitable, "for Tra Ord Omak!"

For The Old One, indeed.

---

Muunokhoi, alone now on the ridge, twisted and turned in the chaos, doing his best to keep the Firekin at arm's length despite how dire the situation had become. His attacks were coming slower now, sluggish and pained, his legs shaking beneath his weight. Some of his attempts were successful, others...others not so much.

He reared backwards to avoid the worst of Ka's attack only to find Kasoro there and the sting of claws in his face. The savageness of the attack shoved him backwards and for a horrible moment he felt himself falling; almost toppling down to join the fallen Azar'bijan who had still to rise from where he had landed.

By some miracle, the warlord managed to maintain his position, throwing his weight in the opposite direction and landing hard on his side, raising clouds of dust that settled and stuck to the open wounds. The hatred in his eyes burned bright in a mask of fresh blood, a roar blasting from him that would surely be heard for miles around.

Still, he knew the truth of it now. His kin had fled and he had fallen. There would be no mercy here and he would ask for none.

The Nergui were on the retreat, that much was obvious, but Kasoro knew there would be no mercy shown to the lion that had brought down their commander. His attack hit and sent the male to the ground, leaving him open for more. Kasoro followed him down, falling upon the lion with a snarl, teeth flashing as he leaned down to close his jaws on the male's throat, just under his jaw. He bit down hard, the mane not offering any protection. He could hold him while the others finished him off.

---

Mat lowered her head as the ugly female sized her up. She knew this would be a hard fight if she took the bait, but the hyena spoke to her and got her to run. A smirk crossed her muzzle as the pup stood on shaky legs, shouting some battle cry. The lioness would get away, but she would still get a prize after all was said and done.

"You're very loyal for scum," she said, claws digging into the dirt. "I'll give you an honorable death since you're accepting your fate and not fleeing like those cowards you call pride mates." She darted forward, jaw gaping as she slammed into the sorry excuse for a hyena. She tore at his throat to end his misery swiftly, keeping true to her word. So long as he didn't put up a fight he could die much more peacefully than he had lived.

User Image Eish did not want to make a bad impression on her fellow pridemates - she was here, after all. Now that she'd recovered, she wanted to at least strike a blow of her own against the hyena. The white lioness darted in to swipe with her claws.

The blow was glancing, barely enough to get past his fur and scratch his skin, but the tips of the Huntress' claws came away bloody.

Kasoro held his ground, feeling hot blood bubble past his mouth. The energy was going out of the lion slowly but surely. Much more blood loss and he'd be dead in moments. He growled low in his throat, threatening the Nergui to do anything other than accept his fate.

Raubtier had followed Tesak's example and mostly stayed out of head on fighting. He'd tried to get a bite in here and there in the confusion, but he knew that he couldn't have made much damage. When the other hyena retreated, so did he. He just hoped he'd be able to keep up.
