Thank you to everyone who voted in the last poll. We have decided to have less technology than the current Naruto world to start with, but throughout the story, there will be opportunities to rediscover technology thought to be lost. Most electronics will no longer work, so people will have to find different ways to do things.
The next poll has been put up. This one is about classes. I need more feedback this time around, because this affects characters directly, to a huge degree. Look at the first post in the thread for more information, and questions that need answered.

I adore that idea completely, I think that there is supposed to be a level of tech but something that should be discovered

Honestly, the original idea I possessed for this was the first option, to a degree. Which I voted for. Basically, as a Genin in this world you wouldn't have access to the knowledge and vast supply of techniques that comes with having a second class. If we have it where a second class is attained upon reaching Chunin, this can be seen, from a role play perspective, as someone choosing to further define themselves into one area of jutsu. Such as a Genin Buki user choosing Samurai as a secondary class, or even Medic, as a way of expressing a further focus on their abilities. To this end, I suggest:
→ Make a list of Primary classes that can be chosen at Genin rank. Upon reaching Chunin, the character may branch into a second class, though they may also choose to specialize once more in a Primary, allowing for a double primary character.
→ Secondary classes should be made that further define what the primaries are. As an example from above, Samurai would be a focus of Buki. I could also choose Artisan, or Crafter, as a secondary from any primary. However, Secondary classes need to have requisites in some cases, as it wouldn't make too much sense to have someone focusing in Genjutsu to select a Samurai class. Though this is just an opinion, and one I'm not too sure I'm all behind. Puppet user, perhaps, and Medic, could be secondaries, and at least have one secondary for every primary we have.
The Prestiges are a form of focus that come after long years (per say) in utilizing your character knowledge to grow and survive. The reason this is an optional instead of a requirement is because the choice could be made to remain along the lines you have already chosen along the way. To this end I suggest there be a separate benefit package for those who attain Jounin but choose no Prestige.
The second prestige, Mana, is where I would take what you and Yoko went. This second prestige set, I think, should be a "Fourth" class, and would represent the ultimate tier of training and lifestyle choices made to date. These should require more than simple AC to attain, such as dungeon runs, boss runs, incredibly large guild-wide story arcs, etc to attain. As an example, we could easily put the name "Sanin" as a secondary prestige, and rename the rank, and have specific requirements such as "200 battles victorious without loss". Something near impossible, but if done properly can easily bestow another tier of power entirely.
The primary prestiges would be more like class changes, what you see in some video games as an increase in the power you already have. Whereas the secondary would be epic-level abilities bestowed for epic-level choices.

When it's explained like this, I agree with Lan entirely. Having a base class to start with at Genin and when they have done a few missions and are ready to become Chunin the Kage would ask what kind of other class specification they would wish to learn and should have to train for [5] Posts or something with their new class so it gives everyone a chance to really think about what they want their second class to be. When it comes to prestiges, this will depend on what the RPC will do in play. Meaning if you chose the acrobat specification, if you were more of a scouting unit your prestige would be scout, if you were a offensive you'd pick Ninja and so on and so forth. We should keep in mind that all of our RPC's will be in their teens and most of the world around us will also be like this due to our plague. So unless stated deeply in a back story or something you should only be able to choose your main class and your main prestige giver acrobat, jack of all, etc. Does this make any sense?

Hello everyone, thanks for letting me join the guild c:
I skimmed through this thread and hope to contribute some great ideas as well.
Though I have one suggestion. How about an "Academy Student" class before genin? Or has it been decided that genin is the starting class?

That was actually something I was going to have us discuss next, after this one. For a true survival feel, it would be better to start as an Academy Student, someone without any training other than some "Formless Style" types, and a limited ability to learn jutsu.
If we want it to be a bit more quick to start, we'll start out as a Genin, but that'll be left to a vote.

Since the vote is pretty overwhelming, with a 62% majority, I'm going to end the vote prematurely. If you have any other comments about the subject, feel free to post them, but the winner in this round is: 1st class at genin, 2nd class at chuunin, 1st prestige at jounin, and 2nd prestige at sannin.
The next vote is going to be a short one that a newcomer brought up. Should we start as genin, or equivalent to academy student?
I think that if we want active players then we should start at Genin, yes we as literate active people would love to do the Academy Student idea but other people may not want to do that at all, it makes everything last longer and who knows when you would be becoming a Genin and so on and so forth. The whole idea of having a base class for Genin is a good idea and we shouldn't incorporate that into the Academy Student idea, when in the Naruto world, a Academy Student usually starts at around age 8 - 10 and when they graduate they are either 12, 13, 14, etc. This is just my opinion on why we shouldn't start as Academy Student, and I can't wait to start Role Playing in here! If there is anything you guys wish me to work on just let me know!

When speaking of Academy Student and starting out, it's more along the lines of assumed ability to learn and starting statistics. Age doesn't correlate in here in regards to rank, because everyone, no matter what age, would start as Academy Student or Genin, whichever. In regards to stats, every rank up increases how many points you have for stats. So, in light of that, your stats would increase more if we start as Academy Student.
As a Genin, the only bonus is that you would get a bit more chakra/stamina, and would have a better assumed level of ability. While it might be "Easier", is it going to give the feel we desire for this guild? A true survival guild would be to start with as little as possible and go from there. As an example, you wouldn't even have a class till you hit Genin. You'd have to define yourself as you go.

What about two starting classes? Members could choose from between Genin starting with higher chakra/stamina or Academy Student with higher stat potential. It kinda balances out and would cater to those who are looking to try something different.

Hello, everybody. I've been a member for a while and like to join in on this discussion.
I'd like to propose that we think about the ranking system. If it is going to be a survival style play, maybe the priorities of the characters will be less in ranking and more on community and village progress.
So far, things are looking good but maybe I have the wrong idea about the survival aspect of the guild.
No, there is a survival aspect, but the focus is on the community if possible. Power is ever going to be a concern, but politics, family, these things and more all have to take part. And I would consider doing that, Telliechan, but the guild has to be uniform in how it starts. That way no one can claim an unfair advantage over another. We want to standardize how things go here, for the most part, so there are less conflicts. Hence the vote between the two. We want a majority vote to ensure fairness.
Ed, we're hoping to eventually have people take up positions that aren't based in power. Raise whole governments, become crafters, build an economy, etc. That cannot happen without an enormous struggle at the beginning for people to try and establish themselves by whatever means are about.

I see. Quite a grand vision you have for this place.

Alright, you reeled me in, let's just go with that instead. Very valid points and I like the more stat increases! So whenever we do this, we probably should start as academy, because if the membrane sucks memories as well, all of our RPC's wouldn't know anything about the shinobi world and what's going on so they would sort of have to re learn all of our stuffs so to speak!
Telliechan, members are the most important part of any guild. Members are my primary concern, and so I'll always take into consideration what you, and other members, tell me. I might not agree with them, or use them, but I'll always listen, acknowledge, and hopefully respond to your points!
Ed, yeah, we do xD I'm going to make a smith, personally, who will be able to make weapons and armor, metal items in general, that can do hilarious amounts of bullshit damage and effects to people, and then sell them for profit :3
Syn, let me explain how we're doing this. Basically, the membrane erases all memories of your abilities, your rank, your jutsu, everything. You could have had a 16 year old Hokage in another village, play him here, and he'd still start out as a genin with no memory of his jutsu, any studies beyond the basics he might have had as an academy students, and that's it. That was, people can play any old character but they'd be forced to start out, no matter their age, as a genin or academy student. To better picture it, imagine you're a master at building a gun. Suddnely you wake up, and go to make a gun. Except now you know you have done so before, and can visualize the end result, but all understanding, knowledge, and experience you had on how to actually build that gun are erased from your memory entirely. So you'd have to go about figuring out how to regain that knowledge, such as learning it all over again. That's the deadliest part about this plague, is that it took even the strongest and made them weak. Now, keep in mind that if you can come up with a huge, awesome way of surviving this curse despite your age, such as sealing your age back to 16 with a fuin, you would still suffer all of the above effects, except you wouldn't be dead :3 There is no way to overcome the effects or dodge the effects of this curse. Only survive its initial lethality!
As an example, Wanryoku, my Jounin from Shinobi Nations, is 19. He's going to be in this guild because someone found out a way to reduce people in age, and made him 16. Thus, he survived the plague, but still loses everything he knew how to do, even wielding his personal weapon he starts with!
