Europa had started feeling a little bit dizzy after the third use of her attack, but she did her best to shake it off and power through. Kaatje was counting on her to be able to do this, after all! Still, when there was no one left in line to be traumatized, she couldn't help but drop her henshin with an exhausted sigh. "I'm sorry," she said to everyone, with special emphasis on the ones who'd taken to her attack particularly poorly. "It's nothing personal."
Shakily, she made her way over to Anabel's little corner and reached for a bottle of gatorade. "I'm just gonna. Um. Sit here for a while." That sounded good.
She waved just a little bit to Raleigh. "I'm actually really, really nice," said Tallulah, her voice shaking a little. s**t. She did not feel well at all.

But it could have been worse. 4-7: Your work isn't elegant or pretty, but it's certainly gonna get the job done. 8-10: Have you done this before? Like, seriously, good job. You'd be the medic on my team any day.
Laney's first order of business wasn't fetching gauze or paint or anything from the table front-and-center of the room; it was her partner, crouched in distress down by the floor. They were a team, right? And they'd both come here to learn the same things. And she understood all too well what it felt like to be so terrified that you lost all ability to function and curled up in a little ball and were lucky if someone came along to rescue you like Camelot had rescued her. But Darren wasn't alone here.
"Hey," she said, crouching down beside him, laying one hand as gently as she could on his knee. "It's okay, alright? You're okay, we're okay." She thought about what things worked for her, the breathing exercises her therapist had taught her. "Focus on right now. Nothing bad's happening right now. Pick a really slow song in your head and just breathe along with it for a minute. I like Silent Night, but you can pick, you know, whatever. I don't think -- " She lowered her voice so only he could hear it. "I don't think we were even supposed to pass that exercise. I think the whole point was to show what it feels like to be way more freaked out than you expected to be -- so when you go into real fights and something crazy happens, you're, you know. Vaccinated. I think this was one of those 'you're supposed to fail' things. Finn's a knight, and even he wasn't, like, ha ha ha, I laugh at danger. So we're cool, right?" Without waiting for an answer to her non-stop yammering pep talk, she went on, "Here, you hang here for a minute, I'll get our stuff for the mummification."
Once they were properly provisioned, Laney thought it would be nice to give her teammate a bit of a breather -- so she went first, tidily unwrapping the gauze and doing her best to imitate the maneuvers Kaatje had shown them. The splint, the sling, the tourniquet: it came a little easier than she expected it would. She was sure the loose gauze would get all tangled in her hands, but in the end, she hadn't fudged this one up nearly as bad as the kayaking. In fact, she hadn't fudged it at all. She wondered if her mysterious weapon had anything to do with that. Maybe she had a weaver's deft fingers after all.
When she was done, Laney handed the remaining supplies over to her partner. "Alright, doctor," she said with enthusiasm, "I'm ready for the life-saving operation."
Lily might have stayed calm for Europa's attack, but it was a bit disconcerting to see her partner, who moment's before was greeting her so enthusiastically basically fall apart. She was at the girl's side in an instant, but sort of feeling a little lost. She grabbed the Raleigh in a hug and looked around.
Xander had a pretty intense frown on his face, seeing some of the reaction from some of those present. He moved around the pairs, trying to get help anyone having a hard time. He was motioning with his hands and talking in calm tone. Focus and breath.
He didn't realize this was apart of the training session. He had found himself sending an apologetic look to Hannah, but felt inwardly proud of how the girl had held up in the round. He gave her a thumbs up as he moved passed. He saw his sister trying to calm her partner and gave her a nod, motioning to her about breathing, before looking to Orah to make sure she was okay.
Lily nodded, "hey, hey Raleigh. It's okay, your safe and no one is going to hurt you. Focus on me okay? Just focus and breath. In and out, in and out. You'll be okay. Nothing can hurt you here and were in this together. They'd have to get around me first, not easy, I've been doing this for a while. In and out. In and out."
She paused looking at the girl, "you okay? Ready to continue?" Those words were said as Kaatje was calling for the next round and giving instructions. Lily smiled at the new senshi and gave her a pat on the shoulder. When Kaatje was done she turned back to the girl. "How about I go first, and then you can try?"

Finn turned to Cora, a hesitant smile on his face. Nowhere in her demonstration had Kaatje ever mentioned how to splint and bandage a cat. "I'm sorry in advance if I completely ******** this up," he said, scratching her behind the ears.
The most that could be said of his supremely messy splint job, once he was finished, was that it was not actively harming Cora. She looked a little bit mummified. "Sorry," said Finn, wincing as he unwound the bandages from the cat. "I'm so sorry. I don't know what happened."
At least Laney seemed like she was doing well at this. Finn shot her a sheepish thumbs up and a grin.
It took a few moments for Arian to realise that Hafwen was speaking to him, but when he did he managed to give his partner a nod "I'll be okay" he said at last, an awkward note in his quiet voice. Although his wan face most likely belied his words, Arian really didn't want to talk about how badly being hit by Europa's attack had wigged him out and he was relieved when Kaatje announced the next task - which thankfully was not volunteering to get hit with more fear-inducing magic.
He threw himself into gathering supplies once Kaatje had finished with her demonstration and was feeling a bit more like himself once he was back in place and although he had never done any splinting before he did his best to copy what he'd seen demonstrated as quickly as he could. Even to his eyes, the end result didn't look too bad as Arian carefully did the last part - writing out the time for the tourniquet on Hafwen's forehead - before just as carefully undoing everything and telling Hafwen with one of his slight smiles "Your turn."
Given all the Harry Potter references that had been tossed around so far, Marlin had started to wonder if the red head running the thing was a closet fan or something, however the references were almost abruptly dropped as she went into the next exercise - which appeared to be something about splinting.
His musings on whether the red head was a Harry Potter fan or not was forgotten as Marlin watched as she demonstrated how to do a wrist splint and fashion both a sling and tourniquet on a white-haired woman (Anabel) and then he'd headed up with the others to gather up supplies when she'd indicated that they should try it out on their partner.
Marlin couldn't say that his finished attempt was anything as neat as the one that had been demonstrated, but he reckoned it was enough to get the job done and he'd also remembered about the tourniquet time, writing it out on Jeanne's forehead.
Hafwen gave a nod then fell silent, not wanting to give Arian the impression that she didn't trust him to hold himself together after witnessing how badly he had taken the hit by Europa's magic. If he said that he was going to be okie, he would be okie eventually. It was just a matter of time.
Setting down her gathered supplies, she watched him work on the splint, sling and tourniquet first, smiling brightly each time he managed to produce an exact replica to what Kaatje had earlier demonstrated. "You're really good at this, aren't you?"
She patiently waited for him to undo the bandages before taking her turn to practise the required skill sets on him. She worked as quickly as she could, entirely focused on Kaatje's reminder that time was of the essence in these. What came out by the end of the exercise was something that barely resembled what she had seen Kaatje and Arian do. But at least it looked like it would get the job done somewhat.
"I guess we can at least take comfort in the fact that this is going to work way better than how it looks?"
Jeanne was glad for this particular lesson - it would help her greatly, and she knew it. Especially since it seemed to be a habit of hers to get hurt badly. So she took the lesson very seriously, watching Kaatje's work carefully.
Hers was near-perfect, an excellent recreation of the demonstration, and she found herself bubbling with pride. At least she was finally doing well!

Tali gratefully took the offered seat near Anabel, giving her a wobbly smile. She wasn't used to being assaulted by random horrifying fear-making things, and hopefully it wouldn't happen again. Ever.
When it was time for the next exercise, she carefully wrapped up her partner. It wasn't perfect, but it was something - workable, she hoped.
At first, Luca just kind of stared at the gauze and other supplies she had collected. For some reason, nothing was really sticking. What was that formula again? Why did there even need to be a formula? With a slightly twisted smile, she said to Hannah, "Well, let's give this a shot, shall we?"
Luca then proceeded to fatfinger the gauze multiple times. She didn't drop it, but she did get mildly tangled. However, when all was said and done, she had fashioned a fairly decent splint. Giggling and scratching the back of her head, she said, "At least it'll work in a pinch, right?" That was all that mattered, right? It didn't have to be beautiful, it just had to be functional. She made a mental note to practice this skill at home, even if it drew questions about why she was suddenly so interested in first aid. (Her parents still hadn't given up on asking questions, though they seemed to be getting close.)
Kaatje called a halt to the mummification of the participants in her boot camp with another sharp whistle. "You lot continue to surprise me," she said. "Like, seriously, you're picking this up pretty fast." (Where had drill sergeant Kaatje gone? Well, Kaatje had skipped her morning coffee. Probably she'd gone where the coffee was.) "I mean, keep practicing, but these are all pretty solid first tries." Especially Finn, who was splinting a cat. Hahaha. Kaatje wanted a picture (so she took one).
"Carries. Alright, we all know you shouldn't move an injured person, but if you have to, these are safe ways to…" Kaatje demonstrated five methods of moving an injured person alone--a pack strap carry, ankle drag, shoulder drag, fireman's carry, and one-person lift. "You can also move people with a blanket, but, I don't know anyone who carries them around except overachievers like Knightlight and, you know, assholes with capes. If your life choices include a cape, please reconsider."
She set them loose to practice their carries and just hoped no one was actually going to get injured.

Finn did not have any trouble picking his partner up, seeing as she was a cat and therefore weighed roughly as much as a loaf of dense bread. However, all of the holds Kaatje had shown them were meant for a human-sized and human-shaped partner, and trying them on Cora was just. Awkward. So, he did okay, but something about this stank of Kaatje pulling a trick on him.
"I like my cape," said Finn defensively, setting Cora right side up. "Um, sorry if that was awkward."
How, he thought, taking a step back, was a magical alien cat going to lift him?
Arian had listened as Kaatje outlined 5 different ways of carrying an injured person on your own and although he privately wasn't expecting to do that well he tried his hardest to focus on exactly what she was doing.
Then it was time for them to demonstrate and Arian turned to look at Hafwen "I'll be as careful as I can" he promised quietly.
It went.. It actually went better than he was expecting. Much much better - although mayhaps that wasn't too hard as he'd been worrying that he'd end up doing something like dropping Hafwen or something. It seemed however that he'd needed have worried since whether it was down to beginner's luck or due to something else, Arian actually did a fairly good job carrying Hafwen.
After watching the red-haired woman demonstrate the ways of moving an injured person alone, Marlin was fairly sure that he'd be able to replicate what she'd done.
And he did after a fashion - not as elegantly or smoothly true - however he was able to pick Jeanne up and move her around and he didn't think he did too bad a job of it.
Given the 6 inch discrepancies in their height, Marlin was a little curious about how his partner was going to lift him when it came for them to switch, but she'd seemed pretty confident about things so far and as long as she didn't end up doing something like awkwardly dropping him or something then he reckoned that it would work out okay.
At least he hoped so - what was the worst that could happen anyway?

Once, after a youma battle a few weeks ago, Laney remembered Sarras offering to pick her up and carry her to the nearest hospital if she wasn't well enough to walk on her own. She'd declined with gratitude, and had, at the time, offered that in the event he someday needed to be carried to a hospital, she would definitely promise to dutifully stagger around attempting to drag him to the nearest taxi and shove him in there without letting him entirely bleed out.
This was a lot like that.
In her page form, Hvergelmir was at least passingly strong. As a regular human being, though, Laney Sutton was much more in the realm of "strong enough to lift the remote control and point it at the TV, probably." Carrying around other people wasn't really something she did on the regular.
She did her best to copy what they'd learned about carries, though -- hunched over like a 90-year-old woman and grunting every few steps, with Darren balanced carefully on her back.
Laney managed it, in the technical sense -- getting from one place to another while managing to keep her partner basically about one inch off the ground the entire time. It wasn't pretty -- but when she was done, she turned to find Finn in the room and gave him the same goofy grin and thumbs-up he'd given her earlier: a grin that said, oh yes, we are the champions, my friend.
