"I'll make it to your next match. Promise." Ara's words came out with a slight slur to them. She leaned against him, her body feeling extremely heavy as the music began to pick back up. She wanted to dance more. Wanted more than just a couple of slow songs with Detra. However, her body felt heavy, almost as if it was made out of lead. She yawned, tightening her arms around Detra's neck as she moved in closer. "Mmm." Was the only thing that came out of her mouth. ••• Casseth frowned as almost all of Lithian's words ran together. It took him a little bit before things became clear. He froze just as the beat of the music picked up and even more people piled into the crowd. "You...what?" He blinked, frowning as he watched his best friend. The worry was evident on Lithian's face. Cas tried to force himself to say something, anything. The words were caught in his throat, though. As if someone had stuffed his it full, rendering him unable to speak. He closed his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose as he began to sober up. Why had Lithian waited so long to tell him this if it was something he'd been fighting with for so long? Why hadn't he trusted him? Why now, when Casseth's body felt like it was going to topple over and his head was so jumbled he was likely to not know what way was up and what way was down? He groaned as he stumbled backwards, his knees hitting up against a bench. Cas went down as he scrubbed a hand over his face. "How long have you known Lithian? How long did you wait to tell me?"

Detraeus flushed, supporting her weight on instinct when she swayed and sank forward. She wasn’t heavy, thankfully, but that didn’t change the fact that he had the whole of her body pressed flat against him. Some buried protective instinct, though, demanded that he not shove her away now, no matter how unnerving so much contact was to him. She was clearly out of sorts from the alcohol with perhaps more than one too many in her system, and needed to be off of the dance floor resting somewhere, not… …whatever it was they were doing now. So, snorting lightly, he tightened his grip a fraction, urging her up to a slightly more stable position, and muttered beneath his breath. “C’mon, princess…up.” ‘ The dance floor is no place for those who can’t stand properly.’ Wordlessly, he guided her towards the sidelines. ••• “I…some time…? I mean, I…I suspected but…” Lithian shook his head, wincing and darting forward to steady Cas when he swayed only to let his shoulders sink when his friend settled against a bench. “Casseth, please don’t be upset with me. As I said, for so long I didn’t even understand what was going on, and then, when I first began to, I denied it myself — I couldn’t handle it myself, and I hated it, I…gods, can you please try to imagine it? If I hated it in myself, how could I possibly come to you about it? I wanted to fix it before it showed, before you found out, before you…” He quieted, “…hated me…” Hesitant, he approached, sitting at the edge of the bench and watching his friend’s train of expressions. “You are angry with me…”

Ara mumbled her thanks to Detra as they made their way out of the crowd. She was tired and her body felt as if it no longer wanted to move by itself. As they moved back to where they had been before she reached up to place a kiss on his cheek before moving to sit down. "Thank you for the dance." The words came out at the same time as a yawn did and she sank down onto a bench. "I think I drank too much." ••• Cas looked up as Lith sat next to him. He narrowed his eyes at him, all kinds of thoughts racing through his mind. His earlier words stuck. Lith had kissed another guy. Despite everything else, that made Casseth's stomach clench. Made him angry beyond what he had any right to feel. Why? Why did he care who Lithian kissed? "Yes, I'm angry with you." Hate, though? Casseth could never hate Lithian. He looked away, shoulders sagging slightly. "I'm angry that you didn't trust me enough to tell me. That you would think I'd hate you." He shook his head. "I would never hate you Lithian. How could you even think that? You're my best friend," Cas said as he glanced back to Lith.

“Mm.” Detraeus opened his mouth, but eventually opted against it, cheeks flush and still feeling the press of her lips like a light burn. She likely wouldn’t remember his words later to begin with, and he’d be gone. Everything would be simpler, later. For now, the least he could do was pay her the courtesy of holding her upright. That in mind, he settled an arm lightly, uncertainly, about her waist to keep her in place. Things would be simpler tomorrow, he reminded himself. ••• “I’m sorry,” Lithian murmured, wincing and cringing back at the tone to Casseth’s words. “I’m sorry, I was just…afraid…” ‘ I wouldn’t have had to tell you, had I been like you. You would have assumed it, and it would have gone unspoken, and ‘normal’…’ He didn’t dare speak those thoughts, though, already off-balance and unused to having Casseth cross with him. It made him feel small and want to cower back into a place no one would ever look at him again. He shut his eyes instead, pulling in close to himself and rubbing at his arm. “I’m sorry…”

"Lithian..." Cas began but trailed off as he eyed his friend. There was that spark of something again. Something inside of him tugged at his chest, made his stomach clench. As if his body and mind were trying to tell him something. He shook his head, shoving it all away. That wasn't who he was.
He watched Lithian, heard the sorrow in his friend's voice. He wanted to make everything better but he truly did not know how to do so. Not when it seemed as if he, too, was confused about things. "Just do not keep things from me again. You can trust me Lithian." Cas moved closer to Lithian, slipping an arm around his friend's shoulder. "And stop saying you're sorry." He forced a small grin to his face. "You know I can't stay mad at you."

Lithian pinked and opened his mouth, but found he had nothing to say. Instead, he tucked close on instinct, nesting his face against Cas’ shoulder and shuddering. Casseth’s grin always made him half of a mind to kiss him, but he knew that wouldn’t go over well. Not now, and likely not ever, so he held his desires to himself, savoring the closeness of Cas’ warmth before forcing himself to speak.
“I do trust you…I will always trust you.” He shut his eyes and released a breath, then made himself look up, squinting out towards the ‘dance floor’. “Perhaps we ought check on Ara and your friend…” Eyes settling back on Cas in his current state and taking into account his own, Lithian’s posture relaxed another fraction. “And then perhaps get some rest. We’ve had a…busy night, on most fronts.”
And so, they did just that. After a brief reconciling, they each headed their separate ways, Lithian guiding Araceli off with him, Detraeus heading off into the dark, and Casseth making the short walk back to the house he now shared with his father. Greater things awaited on the horizon, but for each of them on this night in particular, all that truly called to them was bed, and a good night’s rest. The rest of their fate could wait for its own due time.
