Harvested Sorrow TheWickedEnd Harvested Sorrow Nyghtbringer I love this quote, for I wish to present to everyone how silly these genres are.
TheWickedEnd Ok, first of all Dimmu is not Black Metal. They are Melodic Black Metal. Which is a subgenre of Black Metal. It's totally different 'effin genre. That does not display that genres are silly. It displays that people that speak about genres when they don't know what they're talking about are silly. xp So your saying even critics of all shapes and sizing who call Dimmu Borgir Melodic Black Metal don't know what they're talking about? Of course. Melodic black metal is a rather redundant statement, in itself. How so ?

Black metal is the most melody oriented genre of metal. So to refer to something as "melodic black metal" is stupid.

Most metal fans are considering Dimmu to be sort of the PoP of Black Metal, so to speak, because of their increase in fans and image. They have crawled from underground and have become one of the popular metal bands. Although a lot of the mass (people who do not listen to metal) haven't heard of them..they aren't as popular as Metallica to them. I still enjoy listening to them although they have become more widely known and popular for their genre. It isn't the scene that atracts me..it is the soul and the sound..I wouldn't care if they were in the business just to make money..I mean...who doesn't want to make money? As long as they sound good..I will listen to them..I know that I kind of trailed away from the main point of this post..but hey..I didn't make an asinine arguement at least. lol. Sorry this was so long..I just love Dimmu n.n;

If I like it, then I listen to it. End of story. And as far as the genre goes, I'm sure Dimmu is Symphonic Black Metal. I'm positive there is no Melodic Black Metal.

And back to the main topic: Dimmu was a great band once, but it sems they are becoming more pop day after day. Though, I wouldn't call them Pop Black Metal yet. That place is still property of Cradle of filth (if you even consider them black metal)

I still don't see how commercial popularity affects the quality of the music...

I also agree that it is very redundant...I am 100% sure there is no such thing as Melodic Black metal. I just knew they were Black Metal. n.n; Not true. Black metal in it's purest form is very grungy, very little melody involved, with the exception of some guitar parts. There are many variants of this genre, one of wich is melodic black metal, which invites clean vocals along with the dark vocals and leans more towards goth metal in it's tendencies.
