Ganyma grunted. Again?! The lusus must have been attracted by this veritable swarm of fluffy nibblets. Lusii have to eat, too! He went to go attack the lusus, no thoroughly worried about the gerbils scampering around near his boots. Please don't step on them... Please don't step on them...
"Ack!" His arms jerked as a gerbil made its way into his jeans pocket- resulting in a palpable hit on the lusus!

Ganyma was getting dizzy and tried to take a few blows on the lusus' haunches. The tealblood elicited some rather interesting noises. He was pretty distracted by the wiggly gerbil roaming around in VERY uncomfortable places. Fortunately, the herd of the mammalian rabble cleared soon after that, and slowed by the net the lusus was an easy target.
"Uh, keep it up kids!" Encouraged Ganyma. He hoped they didn't see his discomfort, though it was fairly obvious.

[ "O-Oh! Oh boy!" Didero jumped to attention as the lusus reappeared. At this point it was more likely the lusus was following them.
Didero instinctively scooped the gerbil he'd been petting up into his pocket for safekeeping. "Don't worry, lil buddy, I got you!"

"GWAR!"
The lusus squealed/hissed/whatever the lusus did, and scrambled away. Ganyma yelped and fished the gerbil out of his jeans. "Okay, you. Get in there!" He stuffed the critter in his hoodie pocket.

Being the first to throw her net and take care of her job, Luxara got to watch the rest of the play-by-play. All of it. Including, much to her fascination and horror, Ganyma's little issue. "You, uh, okay there, boss?" she asked after the fact with the innocence only a child could have. "Didn't scratch you up or anything, did it? Did, you didn't get betrayed by your little buddy either, did you?" Of course Luxara didn't have such problems since she had deep pockets. Her gerbil had no hope of getting out on its own, the poor thing. "Do you think we should move on before it comes back and corners us again? It just keeps coming back and the more open space we have, the better." At least it hadn't attacked while they were all snoozing. That would've gone horribly.

[ Didero wasn't entirely sure what was going on with Ganyma and his gerbil, but he felt it was only polite if he didn't watch...
Instead as the lusus ran off, Didero turned his attention to a nearby pile of sand, where something shiny coincidentally caught his eye.
It also caught his lusus's eye, being a bird of similar feathers, and Didero nearly had to wrestle his lusus off of the prize.
"Aw yeah! Lookit these shiny beetles!" Didero exclaimed, having successfully shoved aside his parent. Ganyma felt as though all gerbil-related presences were out of his unknown areas. He straightened his hoodie (which did, in fact, contain a gerbil that he was aware of), but then made a decision. "Hey, would one of you kids hold this little guy for me? If I'm wrestlin' I can't really tell if he'll be alright of if I'm gonna squish him. Uh, or her. I'm not really sure about these sorts of things,"
He held out the gerbil and noticed that Didero was kind-of-almost wrestling with his lusus. "Whoa, whoa, wait up there! Something wrong?" Maybe he was practicing the moves he'd written down? How flattering!
Oh, oh wait, no. Didero had found some shiny things. "Neat!" Blubbered Ganyma, a little disappointed.

"I could keep your little buddy in my other pocket," Luxara offered before being sidetracked by shinies. "Aaaand now I might be running out of pockets, haha. Who knew there was so much STUFF out here?"
Speaking of, something buzzed in right at that moment, honing in on Luxara. "HEY NOW! NOT COOL! NOT COOL!" Her efforts to sidestep and get away from the angry little thing only did so much. Aka it just kept on her despite every move she made. Even Stagdad's snapping at the flying crawler didn't bother it a bit.

[ Hatoful Dad, at least by having been pushed away from the pretty beetles, was able to spot the lizardbeast while Didero was not.
Unfortunately, not being a fighter, Hatoful Dad's go-to tactic was to fluff himself up and flap his wings a lot. Not terribly detrimental to the lizard's health.
At least it alerted Didero to the lizard's presence.
"Wha-- WAAAA! KILL IT KILL IT KILL IT!!!"

"Yeah," started Ganyma. "You'd think that the desert would be more deserted, you know?"
He dropped the gerbil off in her pocket just in time to see the buzzing lizard down below. "Oh no! Get out of here, you!!"
Ganyma swatted at the speedy reptile, hoping for some success.
"Aah! YEOWTCH!" The lizard bit at his hand as he swiped it, batting it against the ground. It was stunned for a second, but before he could step on it it was back up again.

Ganyma inhaled pigeon feathers and began to choke. "HHHKK!" He put his hands on his throat, disoriented and stumbling.
The choking tealblood waved around frantically in the beast's direction. This was so much harder than attacking a gigantic, horned lizardbull. He coughed and hacked up a wet piece of fluff, gasping for air.

Now flustered and embarrassed, Ganyma was back in action. He batted the creature onto the ground and stepped rapidly, bitemarks all over him stinging like hell. He was not particularly graceful in his attempts to get rid of the creature, but it had certainly pestered them enough. Exhausting.

[ The successfully connected hit, intended or otherwise, seemed to invigorate the old lusus. The moment it was able, Hatoful Dad swooped in under Ganyma's boots and tore into the lizard spectacularly. While it was on its way to being thoroughly crushed to begin with, thanks to Ganyma, the lizard was completely eviscerated by the time Hatoful Dad was done with it.
Threat annihilated, Hatoful Dad clicked its beak and set to work preening the blood out of his feathers.

At the surprise of being nipped at, harassed, and the ensuing chaos, Luxara didn't even get a chance to fight back with the boys freaking out too. All she could do in the meantime was keep the gerbils safe and hopefully NOT get caught up too much in the confusion. Once it was finally over...
"Is everyone-is everyone okay? Did? Boss?" She checked her pockets quick and, yep, the little munchkins were perfectly healthy, if not a little shaken up.
In the meantime, Stagdad was licking at his own wounds before slathering his tongue all over Luxara's. She only winced a little. "D-Did? You okay back there?" She was honestly more worried about the obvious little city boy than anyone else. Had he ever been in a fight in his little journalistic life?
